Take it up with the owner, he'll cover me. Right, ONEBGG?
Yep, I'm still the same Vivian. Got the kids all married off and have SIX grandbabies now, with one more on the way.
Staying incredibly busy with that and work. I happened on an IHub link yesterday and then spent the better part of 15 minutes trying to remember my password. LOL
When I logged in all my old e-mail messages were there so I started tracking back and looking for people. Some are still here and others have moved on.
Good to chat with old friends.
I hope your health continues on the upward tick!
Nope, according to ONEBGG my money's no good here.
Right, ONEBGG?
I'm great, punkin! And you?
Hey, ONEBGG! Remember lil ol' me?
How you doin?
Hey, say it ain't so!!!
Thank you, Big Guy!!! eom
Thank you, judd. eom
LOL, nyc! Glad to be of service. eom
Viv's Corner...
Boots in the sand....
I hadn't seen my nephew in two years. The last time I did see him, he seemed the same, goofy, kid I'd always known. The only difference was he was dressed in his Army dress uniform and looked very dapper indeed.
On the last visit, Christmas 2002, we spoke of his impending deployment to Iraq. A bit nervous, he was nonetheless like every soldier I know - determined to do the job he trained for. "Aunt Viv?" he asked..."Did you know there are over 200 ways to kill a person using your bare hands?" I shook my head, a little nervously, as I looked into his intent brown eyes. Yes, my nephew had been trained a killing machine.
He went to Iraq, as part of the 82nd Airborne. He was a decoder, and involved in Special Ops. As such he traveled - in country - with small patrols...at night, under cover of darkness. His night-vision equipment became easier for him to see through than his own eyes in daylight.
Two tours in Iraq, two times his boots hit the sand before I saw him this past Christmas.
He seemed taller, much, much, older...and undoubtedly wiser. No longer did he act goofy. No longer did he sit around discussing video games, X-Boxes, or the latest in computer technology.
Despite warnings, from his family, that he did NOT want to speak of Iraq - whenever we sat down that is all he did speak of.
He said he didn't understand the media coverage, that NO ONE did. He said for all the sensational news, there were thousands of unreported stories. Acts of bravery, kindness, compassion, and humanity on the part of an American force who understood, way better than the average person, just what is being fought for and against there.
While not condoning the actions at Abu Grahib, he asked if one person even remembered Jessica Lynch? Did they know how she suffered at the hands of her captors? How her body, broken and battered, held a spirit that burned so brightly? How frail she looked, he said, when they got her back.. (confirming - without saying what I had thought, that he had some hand in the rescue).
He looked me in the eye and said, "Aunt Viv, I cannot tell you how many Iraqi I have killed. At first, you get sick...then it becomes mechanical and you do as you are told." I asked if that meant he thought we shouldn't be there. "Oh, no, no, no!" he said. "If we don't fight them there, we fight them here." Echoing the sentiments of Tommy Franks.
"Do you support the President?" I asked. "Yes, I do." was his simplistic reply. Needing more, I asked.."Why?" Nephew grabbed his 11-yr. old brother, tousled his hair, and with tears in his eyes he replied.."So this little guy can grow up without the fear that his school bus, his school, the mall where he'll hang out as a teenager and try to act cool, or the movie theater where he'll steal his first kiss, will suddenly become the target of a suicide bomber or other act of terrorism."
I couldn't add anymore, so I changed the subject. He's getting out - for good - this summer, and in the fall he will continue his pre-med studies. His eye on Duke University School of Medicine in 2 years.
I've no doubt he'll make it, and that's one graduation I will be proud to attend.
Awesome, husker!!! eom
4th from the bottom is the one, IMO. eom
Hello ONEBGG...
Well, let's see....in the last year we've married off 2 daughters, had one of them announce we're going to be grandparents (baby girl due May 1), and are now planning the wedding of our youngest son. Only one left, not married, is the oldest...and he's mighty close to proposing to his girlfriend.
So, how has the 'world' treated me? Well, I'm broke, tired, and supremely happy...so I guess I've been treated well, indeed.
How are things for you?
ROFLMAO!!!! PERFECT! eom
Wow, husker! I like the one on the top left. It's very cool and contemporary looking.
Geez, husker.....
I guess "take care of yourself" is really inadequate, isn't it?
I had cellulitis once..stemmed from pink eye (of all things) and the whole right side of my face swelled up. Looked like I'd taken a baseball bat to the eye and cheek...all purple and red and icky....hurt like the dickens, too. Anyway, it took 4 weeks of antibiotic pills and drops. Then another 6 months of fuzzy vision. Here, 6 years later, I have "floaties" in my right eye. Doc says they are "footprints" left by the virus and will never go away.
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING compared to what you are going through, and I'll say a little prayer for your speedy recovery.
Deer "Camp" 2004.....
One buck, one doe - hubby got both...not bad for only having 6 days to hunt and weather in the mid-70's daytime. Man, it was hot and sticky. Even got bitten by flies and mosquitos! Sheesh! Way too warm for a really good hunt.
Had lots of fun off-roading in the mud and playing in the sand, though.
Hubby and one son sick, sick, sick, most of the trip. But, did that stop them? No way, no how! Such dedication! LOL
Hey Husker!!! Sorry I missed it but.......
HAPPY (BELATED) BIRTHDAY!!!!
micka...
Thank you.
Yes, I did watch the game (I'm a HUGE Cardinal fan). And, yes, Curt Schilling is a very strong, brave, Christian. He is certainly the stuff of which heroes are made.
That said, I still don't want the Bosox to win another game. LOL
mick...
This is nothing new. My 28-yr. old son had to go "register" when he was 18. It's not a draft.
mick...
Yeah, illegals are a problem, but not just in Texas. I've seen the desperate poverty of Mexican border towns, and understand their intense desire to live in America. I don't know the answer to these problems, but there has to be something.
Have fun on your trip!
ergo..ROFL!! eom
Hi Novo...
I'm not a native, either...but am 27+ years too.
North of Big D here.
arizona-mick...
Texas gal here, can't imagine life across the Red River.
You know Steeragemate? He's an Arizona native these days. Loves it. I've never been, but have seen his pictures and you are right it is beautiful. Tain't Texas, but it's still purdy. LOL
Hi mick...
There's much truth in what you say.
ergo...
LOL!
ergo...
How the hell can anyone support a man who has admitted to being a war criminal????
ONEBGG...
So I gather, from all the replies I got. It is absolutely acceptable, on the premise I gave ergo - that Heinz is to Kerry as Halliburton is to Cheney. We'll see how that goes over. LOL
ergo...
I'll buy this if you'll buy the Halliburton/Cheney connection as just as tenuous.
Thanks, big guy!! eom

I checked, at the grocery store (I don't buy Heinz anymore!), and sure enough the ketchup said "Product of Canada".
