And where they’re holding hostages and firing rockets from
If you don’t want a fucking war don’t start a fucking war, there are no Marquis of Queensbury rules for war
You cool with the Hamas attack in October?. Tell me, General, how would you have handled the response? How has every other country in history dealt with a similar problem?
How about if some Mexicans do a raid into Texas then go hide back in Mexico in schools and hospitals with hostages. Would you expect us to keep asking them nicely to return our guys?
What if that same group of Mexicans had published manifestos specifically stating their aim is the destruction of America?
Are you obtuse? I had many family members killed by the Nazis and you asked me if I thought Hitler was right.
Do you see Israel shipping Palestinians from other countries in cattle cars to Gaza to be killed?
Please fuck off.
Whatever, I’ll try to cope. But I responded to you respectfully, so there’s that.
Did you ever think about telling a black person whose family was enslaved that slavery was great?
That’s what the other used condom said to me
No names at random, don’t know what you mean
Anyway, you guys seem to have the domestic politics side of things pretty well covered, not sure what I can add
It will be Harris, and, maybe, hopefully, Raskin, and they will kick MAGA ass. My first choice for VP is Jeffries but they ain’t gonna run 2 dark skinned people
Well you hate Israel, think it’s a Zionist entity , and it’s being attacked on 3 fronts. So for you committed anti-Zionists, it’s a great time to be you.
Anyway, when did the war with Yemen start, it was a Houthi rocket, no? I guess this starts it and when Israel strikes back you can trot out your genocidal scum thing again. For you it will be a win/ win.
And the Israelis should really leave and go back to Poland, anyway, right?
So how thrilled are you that a rocket hit Tel Aviv? I’ll bet, very.
12 hours of comments by 6 or 7 people.
You know, maybe it you don’t always tell people with different opinions how wrong and stupid they are, more would feel comfortable joining in. Maybe if it’s not always your way or the highway? Asking for a friend.
The quote from antiquity at the bottom of your posts remains humorous, too bad you can’t appreciate the irony
Beneath contempt. You. Fuck off
China’s happening now, Syria is happening now, so are those countries in Africa I listed. Iran is exporting terrorism all over the place, now. Nobody’s rationalizing anything, war is hell. You got blinders on.
Japan rationalized bombing Pearl Harbor in the same way you rationalize Hamas’ attack on Israel. Bet you were ok with the Abombs, right? Because all countries but Israel have a right to fight back
When hostages are being held in peoples’ homes, those homes are going to get attacked. When rockets are launched from schools, ditto
Funny that the self righteous, such as yourself, have nary a bad word to write about Hamas
Your last line says it all. You are beneath contempt, to call you pond scum is an insult to pond scum
Exactly. This war is exactly like every single other war, ever, but your panties are in a twist because Israel is involved. Why?
Vietnam and Iraq didn’t attack America but you’re fine with us having invaded them? Your outrage is irrational.
The Taliban didn’t attack Australia but Australia invaded Afghanistan. Was that good with you too?
Al Jazeera has been kicked out of the every Middle Eastern country other than Qatar (where it’s headquartered) for promoting terrorism and you cite them as a news source?
How about Newsmax and Bannon’s podcasts , you like them too?
But seriously, folks, I cannot understand your strange quasi-obsession with Israel, Gaza, and this war.
What America did in Vietnam and Iraq was far worse and you never post about that. What Assad has done in Syria, what the Chinese are doing to the Uighurs is far worse, what's happening in Myanmar, Sudan, and the Central African Republic are all at least as bad.
Crimea's currently occupied, as are Northern Cyprus, a part of Armenia, and Western Sahara. Haiti, El Salvador, Guatemala, are run by violent gangs.
And not a peep out of you about any of them. No comment from you about the horrendous oppression brought on by Iran's proxies in Gaza and Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen. North Korea? Nope, you're strictly an Israel Bad! guy, and without any rational explanation why.
Now let’s see some photos and an article about what the Aussie military did when they invaded Afghanistan
https://www.aph.gov.au/About_Parliament/Parliamentary_Departments/Parliamentary_Library/pubs/BriefingBook47p/BreretonReport
Look over there, not at me!
You’re funny. Your bias confirmation skills remain unmatched.
Have fun at the pub this afternoon.
Well, that’s a lot of unsourced blah blah blah. Sure, the authors are named but it reads like an article from The Hamas Weekly Reader.
If you cite Al Jazeera and Saudi sources, you disown credibility. UNRWA? The ones that helped hold hostages in refugee camps? Have you just woken up from a long sleep?
https://ipi.media/al-jazeera-bureaus-closed-websites-blocked-in-several-arab-countries/
Please don’t ever post anything that describes the Israeli point of view. Or anything about the ongoing mistreatment of the Aborigines in Australia.
But look over there! Israel bad!
I recommend the books, A Fever in the Heartland, by Timothy Egan and, Prequel, by Rachel Maddow, as reminders of what American politics and governance were like in the first half of the 20th century.
Although it seems a long time ago, they provide context to what’s happening now and are surprisingly relevant.
The more things change, the more they remain the same.
Ricky Ricardo played a conga drum, Maynard G Krebs played a bongo drum. Big difference.
Hard to take you seriously if you can’t get basic cultural references accurately.
Who says college students today don't have their priorities in order? More camp-ins coming, no doubt
https://www.axios.com/2024/05/07/poll-students-israel-hamas-protests
"Only a small minority (8%) of college students have participated in either side of the protests, the survey of 1,250 college students found."
"A majority of people (58%) who participated in or favored protests against Israel said they would not consider being friends with someone who has marched for Israel.
Meanwhile, 64% of those who participated in a pro-Israel protest said they would still be friends with someone who has marched against Israel."
That’s a fair point about the supposed Microsoft
settlement. I suppose one could go back and look over their financials for that year but life is too short
And yes, since the 3 Guys owned so many AS privately, they controlled all the voting and by the time we retail suckers got there our votes were meaningless
The CEO was the CIO at Morgan and brought those ethics to his new company
This company had software you could buy (lease) but they were solutions for which there were no problems
They got $9M from Microsoft. BlankRome was working on contingency, but Ropes Gray wasn’t for the Appeals Court disaster.
They took out a $1M litigation loan at the time and management pocketed most of it.
Even if their legacy software had been great, there was no demand for it and they proved themselves to be amongst the worst marketers in history. They tried to sell that software on HSN, for God’s sake
I went to a shareholders meeting some years ago and chatted with Mark and George during the cocktail hour. Like many sociopaths, they were very charming
They are in the business of selling shares
Which will be about it’s 5th
You’d love this one. Each of the senior management team (3) is paid more than total gross revenues
Thanks for the links. There appear to be an infinite number of publicly traded total scams out there
I’ve been following the SFOR/ ZRFY saga for a while. No sex or violence but it would be hard to outdo them in the criminally sleazy department
No, I didn’t buy any but I followed the discussion board. When Oprah’s pal got installed as CEO, there was some chatter about whether Oprah would get involved, too, which would have taken it to a different level.
There was also talk about them starting a movie production studio, maybe Janice Shell has a better memory of it
You can up-res things to a limit before quality deteriorates and if you break a frame into segments of that limited size, it would work. Conceivably there could be a program to automate that process.
When you create an image in Generative Fill, for example, the area of high resolution is something like 1000 pixels squared and you can move along a larger canvas creating at that size for a final hi-res image. I can give you a link to a tutorial about it if you want
You're lucky, Italian Renaissance painting is my favorite, but not a big sculpture fan of that era. I suppose you were forced to live in Florence or Rome for a while, sometimes you just have to suck it up.
VGTL had an intriguing business plan for a time, scanning old movies into HD formats but I guess that was just b.s. or they were poorly managed. I don't remember the name you mention, there was a woman I remember who was supposedly a great friend of Oprah's who was in charge for a while but she apparently had enough sense to head to the exits fairly quickly.
You ever keep up with the VGTL situation any more?
I’m pretty sure I remember you from posting over there, the art historian but I never knew your speciality
And how do you make the photo negative?
You got that the print part right, but you would use an enlarger with a transparency loaded and make the exposure on a sheet of single weight paper, then do what you describe, with the sandwich. If you wanted it to be grainy, atmospheric, you could use some of that high speed Agfachrome for example and carry on. You can also “stress” the paper neg when it’s being washed to create other effects.
Your first link describes an extremely unwieldy way of making the neg. I doubt if anyone outside a school class would use it.
You busted my chops because I got 3 wrong on your test and now you don't want to play. Ok, fair enough.
How about a clip test, then? Most of the labs I knew about in NYC would offer that, back in the day when there were labs.
Not sure how I'm blowing smoke and trying to trick people, you either know this stuff or you don't.
David Hobby. He did a blog called Strobist.com for 15 years on which he concentrated on portable strobes and the various ways to use them, etc.
It ended in about 2021 but was brilliant. He had been a former photojournalist for the Baltimore paper, whatever it's called, and showed a generation of photographers how to do things they didn't think possible with hand held flashes. The site is still up and you can still access his various lessons, for free.
Now he's mostly just leading international photo tours, with great success, I believe, although who knows how the pandemic treated him.
It's funny you think I Googled this stuff. I took your quiz, why not take mine
- how do you make a paper negative and print that will yield a grainy final print?
- what's the approximate difference in development times if you dilute Dektol 2:1 vs 3:1?
- what are some advantages of using a monolight instead of a power pack or vice versa?
- who made Polaroid backs for 35mm cameras?
- who is The Strobist?- i
- is the best type of scan of a neg a drum scan or flatbed?
- is a digital gray card the same as a traditional gray card?
- which draws more power, quartz lights or strobes?
- what is a slave and what is a transceiver?
- when loading 4x5 film into holders, how should the notches be positioned?
Google away if you must, but I"m sure you probably don't need to, and please post your answers
I misread red filter for red light.
You think I Googled Minor White and his use of the Zone System?
If I had Googled the stuff I would have gotten them all right
You think I Googled gum bichromate prints and Dektol solutions?
I switched to all digital about 20 years ago and haven’t been in a darkroom since All my answers were from memory and I think I did pretty good
I took an hour to respond because I’m not gonna n this site all the time If I asked you how to make prints from paper negatives, what would you say. Oh, also, how do you make paper negatives?
Are you bi-polar? Sometimes you’re nice, reminiscing about your time in NYC, and whatever, and sometimes you’re like this, hostile
You’re not the obligated to dialogue with me, if you find me offensive put me on ignore and I’ll try to deal with it
Listen, I’m an asshole, much like yourself, but at least I’ll admit it
My style is my style, you can appreciate it or not, but I'm completely not interested in your critique of it. If you don't want to interact with me, don't, or banish me, but leave the psychoanalyzing to the pros, please.
The examples of Japan and Vietnam speak to my point that Israel is not necessarily creating a new generation of Hamas terrorists by what it’s doing in this war.
The US didn’t create a new generation of kamikaze pilots by dropping the bombs, etc
We don’t know how Palestinians will react. There may be more terrorists created but that’s not a given, as some here claim, it’s just as likely they will become major trading partners with Israel
Fixer is a liquid, usually in a tray that you put paper into after the stop bath, before washing in water
Red filter gives illumination in a darkroom without exposing the paper
No idea what a wet table is and 45 seconds might be the time you develop the paper for after exposure, but that would depend on the dilution of the Dektol or whatever developer you use
2.4 gives less depth of field than 16
No idea what a star field is
Zones are a system theory developed primarily by Ansel Adams and championed by Minor White, as in Adam’s, Zone System Manual
I never put silver halide in my developer, I used store bought except when I was making gum bichromate prints
Stop bath is mostly acetic acid, or some kind of acid, if memory serves
A lens is a lens. Smaller numbers equal less depth of field, which is, approximately the area in focus
AI is artificial intelligence, no idea what you mean by it being a 15 year old Photoshop filter that was renamed. While it’s true there has been a spot healing brush in PS for a while, the new version takes it to a new level, particularly in PS 2024 (beta)
No doubt. But when someone posts off- topic insults just to be irksome, why bother.
If I want to indulge someone’s immaturity, I have little grandchildren for that.
To remind you, that particular person claims to be a professional photographer but doesn’t know what Generative Fill is and stated that he had no opinion as to whether AI alters our perception of reality in photographs.
To say his opinions are worthless is an insult to worthlessness. You deal with it however you want and I’ll deal with it my way. Please note, I’m not insulting you over the way you deal with this
I really wish you’d take some fuck off lessons.
Just to be clear, when I’m going back and forth with someone else, your comments are not needed or welcome, but the main problem is that they’re not interesting.
Yes, and holding hostages in people’s homes and refugee camps is an outlier too.
https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/israeli-military-says-weapons-found-al-shifa-hospital-2023-11-15/
Maybe I missed it, but when I was in the hospital in NYC for an operation a few years ago, I didn’t see any weapons being stored there
You seriously don’t know about this?

Sheds light on your historical perspective

Why should those countries care about Russian aggression in Europe?
You do know why Putin calls Ukrainians Nazis, right?
You’re replying to a post in which I asked no questions, so I really don’t know what you mean
As for McNamara, I cited some stuff a former Sec of Defense said. You’re allowed to agree or disagree, obviously some people take his opinions seriously
Morris is highly regarded as a doc maker, remember, “The Thin Blue Lune”?
And it’s a tragedy. But business as usual in a war, like it or not.
