Check out the Athlon 64 review:
http://www20.tomshardware.com/cpu/20030923/index.html
Athlon 64 gets totally spanked by existing Intel hardware.
AMD investors are getting completely destroyed today. Talk about financial ruin.
Yup. Another Gargantuan loss by AMD.
Hector should be paying us to run this company.
When is AMD reporting this week?
This seems like a nice, lofty price to buy in at right before they unleash the devastation.
As I said, I "Just made a complete exit @ $7.33."
You must own stock to exit with.
I had originally purchased @ $7.25 thinking we'd see $9 this summer, but I think we're more likely to see $6 before we'll see $9.
Looking to repurchase below $6.50; preferably below $6. This company just gives us little hope - they continue to miss ever single target that is set. I'm comfortable purchasing @ book value, but I suspect book value is about to take a slide after this quarter's MASSIVE loss is announced.
Just made a complete exit @ $7.33.
I think this stock is about to get SMOKED.
...but how many years must it take a competent manager to fix a mess?
Ruiz will be delivering when AMD is posting quarterly profits of several million dollars.
In the meantime, we only have massive failure as the company trades at less than book value and continues its uncontrolled spiral into bankruptcy.
AMD investors getting totally destroyed by AMD today.
We're now significantly BELOW book value. That's the best indicator of completely incompetent management. Welcome to the world of Hector Ruiz.
ROFL. You think AMD already has the 2.0Ghz A64's to be released in September?
If history is any indication, they're probably chin deep in serious manufacturing problems and about to announce a 10 month delay.
Any predictions for this week?
Will be rocket back into the 7's or get our rear ends smoked again?
The only thing pathetic on this board is users such as yourself trashing other users for no good reason. Let's try and keep it professional and respectful, shall we?
...any ideas on why we're getting screwed on AMD stock today when compared to the NAZ?
Whatever you guys think about the dire situation AMD's balance sheet is in, the fact is that the book value of AMD stock equals its market value! As such, the terrible performance and state of AMD is more than factored into its share price.
Naturally. Anything involving Hector Ruiz will be eternally messed up.
xxrayeyes:
I wouldn't hold out for the 64 bit chip.
Knowing AMD and its CEO, it'll probably be delayed for another six months, suffer severe production problems resulting in a supply shortage, and ultimately offer little or no real world performance advantage over the competition.
Elmer Phud:
The QS strategy could only have been successful after time had elapsed and it had been proven as a fair and accurate reflection of real-world performance.
Unfortunately, as with all similar schemes of the past with companies such as Cyrix, it was used as an opportunity to commit fraud against the public. An XP 3200+ doesn't even come close to a 3.2Ghz PIV, so we need not even discuss why the + exists.
However, I have fundamental problems with the whole concept. As a microchip maufacturer, why do you want to base your naming convention on an idea that implicitly sets SOMEONE ELSE'S product as a benchmark? If I market a new sports car, would it be wise to name it the XCOMPANY Porsche 911+? Why not just buy the Porsche if the name itself suggests that we're only trying to live up to the Porsche and the Porsche is superior? A company like AMD will only gain wide market acceptance and recognition by DISTINGUISHING its product, not attempting to piggy back it on the expectations of the competition. A MAC G5 is called a MAC G5 because people have come to expect that the MAC G line offers competetive performance when compared to the competition, and a much more stable and useful operating environment. To call the new MAC a 3200+ would only be an insult to MAC and an admission that the product is inferior.

You've got it right on, Spokeshave.
Hector is such a gargantuan incompetent screw-up; he needs to go and fast. He should be paying the stock holders millions for what he's doing to this company.
I worked for Ford for many years, and I only hope that AMD will not stand idly by and let Hector bring this company to its knees as Ford allowed Jack Nasser to do. Nasser made decisions that were so dumb and frought with corruption anmd egoism that even the high school drop-outs on the manufacturing line used to marvel at how inane the decisions that were being made within the company were. Hector is starting to look like his brother.
Sorry - I'm not old enough to remember Truman.
Joe...I think you're just pissed because you're long on a crap stock.
You've simply got to be short on AMD going into earnings. It's free money.
Oh, I'll blame Hector, as he fills his pockets with millions as shareholder equity goes up in smoke.
As Nixon used to say, "The Buck stops here."
That's what AMD specializes in - lying to its shareholders.
Where have you been?
Oh I have a small position in AMD; not enough for me to care much. But, it amazes me how much one management entity can screw things up so consistently and royally.
AND THERE IT IS!!
The usual feeling of what it is to be an AMD investor.
Ooops. AMD investors getting completely destroyed today.
GIDDY UP!!! AMD ROCKS!!!
This stock has such potential. If only our management wasn't so damned stupid.
factsnotfiction: Perhaps people are just expecting AMD to miss because it has substantially missed virtually every target and forecast in recent history, while leading people to believe it would beat them. Remember the boy who called wolf?
So, exactly when does everyone expect AMD to announce that they will miss this quarter's projections by several hundred million?
That sounds about right...AMD down huge again today. Once again, AMD investors are beginning to lose their rear ends.
Woa...NASDAQ up early and AMD already starting to get WHOOPED.
What's up today?
Wow...AMD investors are getting totally destroyed today. After a month of holding some ground, it looks like classic AMD days are returning again. $3 here we come.
Interesting - James Cramer wrote an article only last week about how AMD and Motorola are very badly managed.
That's odd...I interpret changes in AMD management as an event that could not possibly be anything but a step forward.
We seem to be getting hammered hard today for no apparent reason.
Well, I'm not too fond of shorting for a simple reason: if you make a bad decision buying, you can always wait it out. When shorting you get forced into covering, particularly if you short more shares than you should have.
What kind of a time frame do you see to AMD being in the teens.
Anyone think we'll retest the lows in the $3 range?
Does anyone here think that AMD will actually be able to increase its share price 500% to achieve a 3 year average return of 0% on its stock?
Boom. And we're up.
Any chance this thing will see $9 in the next few weeks, or should we sell in anticipation of the next cattle slaughter?
It looks like AMD investors are going to get violated today.
It's time to SHORT!!
Does anyone see any quality left in this stock, or is it time to flee the burning building?
