TIME-TRAVELER' BUSTED FOR INSIDER TRADING
Wednesday March 19, 2003
By CHAD KULTGEN
NEW YORK -- Federal investigators have arrested an enigmatic Wall Street wiz on insider-trading charges -- and incredibly, he claims to be a time-traveler from the year 2256!
Sources at the Security and Exchange Commission confirm that 44-year-old Andrew Carlssin offered the bizarre explanation for his uncanny success in the stock market after being led off in handcuffs on January 28.
"We don't believe this guy's story -- he's either a lunatic or a pathological liar," says an SEC insider.
"But the fact is, with an initial investment of only $800, in two weeks' time he had a portfolio valued at over $350 million. Every trade he made capitalized on unexpected business developments, which simply can't be pure luck.
"The only way he could pull it off is with illegal inside information. He's going to sit in a jail cell on Rikers Island until he agrees to give up his sources."
The past year of nose-diving stock prices has left most investors crying in their beer. So when Carlssin made a flurry of 126 high-risk trades and came out the winner every time, it raised the eyebrows of Wall Street watchdogs.
"If a company's stock rose due to a merger or technological breakthrough that was supposed to be secret, Mr. Carlssin somehow knew about it in advance," says the SEC source close to the hush-hush, ongoing investigation.
When investigators hauled Carlssin in for questioning, they got more than they bargained for: A mind-boggling four-hour confession.
Carlssin declared that he had traveled back in time from over 200 years in the future, when it is common knowledge that our era experienced one of the worst stock plunges in history. Yet anyone armed with knowledge of the handful of stocks destined to go through the roof could make a fortune.
"It was just too tempting to resist," Carlssin allegedly said in his videotaped confession. "I had planned to make it look natural, you know, lose a little here and there so it doesn't look too perfect. But I just got caught in the moment."
In a bid for leniency, Carlssin has reportedly offered to divulge "historical facts" such as the whereabouts of Osama Bin Laden and a cure for AIDS.
All he wants is to be allowed to return to the future in his "time craft."
However, he refuses to reveal the location of the machine or discuss how it works, supposedly out of fear the technology could "fall into the wrong hands."
Officials are quite confident the "time-traveler's" claims are bogus. Yet the SEC source admits, "No one can find any record of any Andrew Carlssin existing anywhere before December 2002."
Weekly World News will continue to follow this story as it unfolds. Keep watching for further developments.
can somebody point me to the WEL board??? i want to educate you all.....acidpro (boots$coots)

How can there be deleted messages on a PSYCHO message board? Oh, OK...now I get it.
knowing what is wrong with oneself is 90% of the battle
So true... it's so much easier to see what's wrong with others than to truely take a good look at oneself.
Sara
sarals you must know my x-wife but she was at her best when she was vicious ha ha
All kidding aside I agree knowing what is wrong with oneself is 90% of the battle.
Irwin
Muell glad to see someone has a sense of humor.Does anyone really believe anything they read on these boards without double checking it.
Irwin
Rick missed your name from your other post did not know that calling you broderick_s instead of just Rick was a problem. Not a problem for me ,now where did I leave my drink lol lol
having a great weekend hope you do too.
Rick
How will they ever know or admit they have this disorder?
Even when confronted, they don't. It's really kind of a sad situation. Things must have gone terribly wrong in their youth.... but you have to be careful dealing with them, they can lash out and be very vicious.
Sara
LOL, now I'm really confused, what???
Muell
Jeeez Matt, even though I know diversity exisist in every community of every size ..... my motives are simple.
1. I joined SI to learn about a broader set of companies than I would discover on my own.
2. Back in 1997/1998, there was very little information about most companies that were easy to access. Bulletin boards were the best way to exchange grass roots information about emerging high growth companies.
3. The people I interact with and work with in real life are a fairly homogeneous bunch (translation: nice, but a little on the boring side). So this gives me a change to interact with people from around the world who I have something in common with but at the same time, are very different than I am.
4. It probably took about 18 months before I discovered what a hot bed for promoters, predators, and scam artists the online world was. I honestly had no clue -- and most of these guys of course never revealed that they were paid promoters. Even with FAMH, which I spotted as a scam IMMEDIATELY, I had no idea that people were paid "free shares" to go to bobz, RB, SI, Yahoo, mIRC and post pure fiction to entice people to buy stocks.
5. Why am I still here ? Ummmmmm .... mostly cuz I don't want to lose touch with Bernard, Jim Bishop, Wayne R. and some other people I've met along the way -- cuz doing so means going back to associating with just the data processing people I know in the real world. But I sure ain't looking for the penny mo-mo of the day or even the next "Microsoft".
Hope you are doing well Matt.
Regards,
Chris
My other online trading account is a mattress !
Muell have you ever thought about this quote
"When you say your wrong about something your really right because if you did not say you were wrong you would be wrong not right again for being wrong"
Just a play on words to get those who are always right to stay right even when they are wrong'
I thought you might get a good LOL from.
Irwin
sarals WOW there is no cure for it
"There is no known cure for this personality disorder; however, psychotherapy may help the person relate to others in a more positive and rewarding way. The outcome varies with the severity of the disorder"
How will they ever know or admit they have this disorder?
Irwin
Matt would you care to share what you find interesting about those posters.
Irwin
broderick_s sounds like:

This should be real good matt, hehe

I think the following really pegs at least one of those characters...
What is Narcissistic Personality Disorder?
A disorder of the personality characterized by an abnormal love of self, self-centeredness, being self-absorbed, and an inability to empathize with the effects of one's behavior on others.
What are the symptoms of Narcissistic Personality Disorder?
The sufferer may:
- react to criticism with feelings or rage, shame or humiliation
- take advantage of others to achieve own goals
- act self-important
- exaggerate achievements and talents
- have a preoccupation with fantasies of success, power, beauty, intelligence, or ideal love
- have unreasonable expectations of favorable treatment
- require constant attention and admiration
- lack empathy

LOL, FSU Cheerleaders, LMAO dreamer!

Just posting my thoughts here since I can't remember them. <g>
Some "minds" I want to probe.
Joemoney, MMMary, FrankNG, tyfoon, IH Admin (Matt), jmhollen, FSU Cheerleaders, Koikaze.
The above are folks I've found interesting patterns and posting styles in.
Want to analyze a few. Some good. Some bad.
On the other hand...perhaps this says it all...
http://www.markpoyser.com/diagrams.htm
It's all there...greed, conspiracy theories, greed, back room deals, greed, illegal activities, greed, old boys' network...did I mention greed?
Matt...here is another interesting fact I have discovered:
The number of posts on a message board in inversely proprotional to the price of a stock.
Also, methinks that your list of message board participants should include MMs, Stock Investment Clubs & Stock Investment Letters all of whom have been known to use message boards to achieve their objectives. Although infrequent, I know of at least one CEO who uses message boards as a way to keep in touch with shareholders.
I need to change the thread topic to something more in line with my thoughts, but I can't figure out a good one, yet.
But, let me start off with a few definitions, at least from my perspective.
I'm dealing solely with online financial communities. I'm not getting into the other communities.
Basher - someone who posts negative material all the time and often twists things terrible. they generally focus on one company for months refuting every single positive statement made about the company. Why they do this, I don't know. Is it compensations? Is it revenge against the company, ex-employer? Is it just folks hounding members no matter what stock they are in? We'll go into more details later. Right now, I'm just setting up the definition. Basically, a person who is negative 100% of the time and twists things up.
Touts - while most disagree with me on this, I consider a tout a person who posts solely the positives and never the negatives. who can't see or convey the negatives of an investment. these people are the ones who bought the stock and aren't paid to talk about it. The "longs"
Pumpers/Hypesters/IR - these are the people who are paid to promote the company. they squash any kind of negative put out there by anybody else, no matter what. it's their job and their finances are always tied to the success, so they have a vested interest in distorting things, just like the bashers distort.
Smart investors - those who know both the positive and negatives for each investment they partake in. will discuss either and absorb every bit of information presented to them, pos or neg. Make money on the short-side or the long-side -- whichever is profitable.
Longs - those who make their coin by holding and wanting it to go up.
Shorts - those who make their coint by shorting and banking on the stock going down.
That covers the general players, I think.

Matt... If so, I'll fire up a board and throw out a few of my most interesting observations.
Would love to hear them.
Sara
"Why do people seek revenge online?"
I have to admit I don't really understand why... why revenge at all? why do people take things so personal? why not have friendly conversation, help each other and everyone benefits? why can't people be more respectfull of others opinions? I guess it's human nature just like in the real world and maybe being online some people let their guard down more than they would in the real world.
On IHub I've seen alot less of this and a lot more of what I think stock boards should be about... people sharing information and having intelligent discussions.
"Why do 'bashers' exist? Why do touts exist?"
Why are their bulls and bears... conservatives and liberals... male and female... ying and yang... it's what makes a whole. It would be a boring world to always be in agreement. The problem, IMO, is when anyone for whatever purpose lies, manipulates, intimidates, etc., for their personal agenda or personal kicks.
Very interesting topic Matt.
Sara
"Why do people seek revenge online?"
That's an easy one. For nameless, faceless, wimps, it is easier to sit behind a keyboard & punch away with no fear of retribution. IP addresses can only be traced by the ADMIN of a message board (ie iHub) or unless a moron sends an email to someone he gets into a beef with on a thread & leaves a fingerprint. IMHO, individual posters can post with anonymity with other posters so bravado shines. It is only the ADMIN that, should they really want to, can find out the people behind the aliases.
"Why do 'bashers' exist? Why do touts exist?"
Also easy...Cause $$$$ are involved. Everyone is out for themselves & the some people actually believe that by bashing or touting a particular stock, the price will move thereby causing them to profit.
I don't see these as very complicated issues...only MHO.
If you write a book on what is posted here, we all get a %. I just wanted to be #1
