According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance ("BNEF"), the EV battery boom has catapulted lithium prices to record levels and the world is going to need five times more lithium by the end of the decade, "…but the lithium supply chain is far from green". To meet this demand, BNEF estimates that the lithium industry needs as much as $42 billion in new investment.
The LCA report, first reported in July 2022, was an in-depth study on the RecycLiCo's lithium-ion battery waste recycling and upcycling process, assessing the Company's process against competing hydrometallurgical recycling methods and the industry average for primary extraction. The bill, formally known as the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, includes a 10% advanced manufacturing production tax credit that spans the production of critical battery minerals to downstream production of cathode and anode materials used in lithium-ion batteries. In an extensive section on energy security and climate change, the bill also includes more than $60 billion to incentivize renewable and clean energy manufacturing in the U.S. Eligibility is open to companies operating in North America or from countries with which the U.S. has a formal trade agreement.
Tax credits for electric vehicles (EVs) are restored, but with restrictions based on where the batteries are built and where the critical materials in the batteries are mined, recycled, or processed. According to the Congressional Research Service's summary of tax provisions in the bill:
"To receive the $3,750 critical minerals [tax] credit, the vehicle's battery must contain a threshold percentage (in value) of critical minerals that were extracted or processed in a country with which the United States has a free trade agreement, or recycled in North America. The threshold percentage would be 40% through 2023, increasing to 50% in 2024, 60% in 2025, 70% in 2026, and 80% after 2026.
To receive the $3,750 battery components portion of the credit, the percentage of the battery's components manufactured or assembled in North America would have to meet threshold amounts. For vehicles placed in service through 2023, the percentage would be 50%. The percentage increases to 60% for 2024 and 2025, 70% for 2026, 80% for 2027, 90% for 2028, and 100% after 2028."
In recognition of geopolitical concerns and supply chain vulnerabilities, the bill prohibits taking the EV tax credit on any vehicle purchased after December 31, 2024, in which battery materials are sourced from "foreign entities of concern," defined in U.S. law as China, Russia, Iran or North Korea.
"The new law comes less than four months after the U.S. designated the major battery materials -- including those RecycLiCo will extract from spent batteries -- as essential materials under Title III of the Defense Production Act of 1950," said Dan McGroarty, a member of the Company's Advisory Board. "I see this as a strong signal that U.S. policymakers are coming to understand that the ‘battery criticals' are true dual-use materials, required for the national economy as well as national security." The law authorizes an additional $500 million for the Department of Defense to use to encourage the production of Title III materials.

"Global Warming Potential" refers to the potential CO2 equivalent emissions made by a particular recycling method, in producing one kilogram of NMC precursor material. As shown in the table, competing hydrometallurgical recycling methods will likely produce 166% more CO2 equivalent emissions when compared to the RecycLiCo process. To put this into context, such a variance is about the same as 17,000 tons of CO2 per GWh of NMC battery material recycled, which is roughly equivalent to the amount of emissions made by 3,700 vehicles in a year on average.1
Minviro also found that the RecycLiCo process, when compared against the industry average for primary extraction methods (i.e. mining), results in a 35% reduction in CO2 equivalent emissions for NMC precursor production and a 74% reduction for lithium hydroxide production.

SGH (spatiotemporal geochemical hydrocarbon) surveys carried out in 2017 resulted in redox cell (6.0 out of 6.0 rating), and copper-gold anomalous zones (5.0 out of 6.0 rating) that coincide with the redox cell anomaly.In 2021, pole-dipole array IP Geophysics on "Vent Zone" target identified elevated chargeability (>30mV/V), which correlates with the redox-cell soil hydrocarbon anomaly. Widespread, disseminated sulphides (mostly fine grain pyrite) are present in the portions of the Vent Zone. IP survey high chargeability and coincident low resistivity on west portion of grid area are interpreted extent of Vent Zone. In the central part of the IP survey area, relatively strong chargeability and low resistivity increases at depths of approximately 100-200 meters (328-656 feet). The Vent Zone has positive Cu- Au-Ag-Co-REE soil geochemical anomalies and is interpreted as an Iron-Oxide Copper-Gold (IOCG) occurrence.

Rock chip sample geochemical analysis results indicate massive and semi-massive chalcopyrite-pyrite mineralization (with minor bornite and molybdenite) contain significant rare earth elements (REE elements Ce- La-Nd-Pr are listed above). The Rocher Mine No 2 & 4 Veins are considered primarily as vein type (tabular shaped)copper resources accompanied by silver, gold and rare earth element bearing minerals. The distribution of rare earth elements (La-Ce-Sc-Y-Pr-Nd-Pm-Sm-Eu-Gd-Tb-Dy-Ho-Er-Tm-Yb-Lu) are associated with silicified fault zones that have magnetite and massive sulphide.Sulphides & REE do not correlate well. SURREY, BC / ACCESSWIRE / December 3, 2021 / American Manganese Inc. (TSXV:AMY)(OTCQB:AMYZF)(FSE:2AM) ("AMY" or the "Company") is pleased to announce the filing of National Phase Patent Applications (NPPA) to further strengthen the Company's patent portfolio. The Company's original PCT Application No. PCT/US/2020/021888 was filed with the World Intellectual Property Organization and is now filed into the national phase for Europe, South Korea, Canada, India, Australia, Japan, and China.
The patent within the NPPA is the second invention contained in the Company's RecycLiCo battery recycling process. The patent encompasses novel process functions that further enhance the RecycLiCo process and expand the processing capability for various waste battery input materials.

The recovery of graphite and treatment of black mass material originating from the mechanical size reduction of end-of-life lithium-ion batteries.
Bloomberg is projecting 56 million passenger electric vehicles sales worldwide in 2040, and the need to recycle the trailing volume of end-of-life batteries will be a certainty. Therefore, black mass is expected to be the most common input material for hydrometallurgical processing, and significant demand for advanced and efficient processing of black mass material will be required. The RecycLiCo process presents a significant opportunity to reintroduce these critical battery materials back into the supply chain.
The treatment of fluoride originating from the lithium-ion battery electrolyte.
The electrolyte is a highly toxic and hazardous lithium-ion battery material found in some black mass materials. If not treated, it could lead to complications in downstream recycling functions and environmental damage.
The separation of aluminum from cathode active material in battery manufacturing scrap.
Lithium-ion battery manufacturing includes coating cathode active material containing lithium, nickel, manganese, and cobalt to an aluminum foil to form the cathode electrode. This manufacturing process can result in off-spec cathodes that are scrapped as waste, which the RecycLiCo process can treat to produce high-quality cathode materials for battery re-manufacturing.
