Lol, ya call 8s...they give you 7s. Never ceases to amaze watching this VIX activity in the market.
Well, when all of the fakery is happening is when you start stocking up and wait. It'll always pop at some point in the near future...never fails. As unpredictable in the micro sense that this can be, it is entirely predictable when you pan out and look at the bigger picture. Patience is always key...something that was never my strong suit
It's like someone makes a phone call and the pump starts. It hit immediately after market close. I had a buy order for UVIX at 9.50 minutes before the market closed feeling it wasn't gonna get filled because of the stonger upward momo at the moment. The market closed and before I looked left and right UVIX was at 9.10 in AHs. Just another wtf VIX moment. Gonna hit 8s tomorrow, I'll bet
Market drops and gets gobbled back up in no time. So much for that "reality" setting in. During this tech earnings week the S&P will head back up over 5100 and beyond. Nothing is wrong after all folks, sorry about that, lol
I know, when I think about how much money I would've made just holding onto a long short position, it's sobering to say the least. I had some big positions too and as always with the way I traded these funds, I always got caught up in the moment instead of seeing the bigger picture and just leaving it alone to do what it has always done over time and what it's designed to do...decay and drop in value.
Futures going down big, reality setting in, perhaps
Also a canary in the coal mine that banks are suffering
Incredible VIX slam after the spike today, dang. I'm back to watching UVIX after the split on UVXY. Well over a dollar move on the downside, amazing how they crush it when they decide to do so.
Market has seemed toppy since the S&P topped 4800. It just keeps going up despite all of the dysfunction, chaos, rising interest rates, rising prices, global instability and uncertainty etc. I know a lot of that isn't new, but it just seems to have gotten worse.
I actually haven't been trading for awhile now. I needed to stop with the gambling and obsession with these crazy ETFs. Wasn't good for my pocketbook or my head. Having said that, I do still follow the market and paper trade anything that is moving. Funny how my mental/emotional space is not that different paper trading than it is with actual money on the line, lol. I guess it's from all of the years of conditioning and from being competitive by nature. Anyway, it is entertaining. I socked most all of my money into both a high interest savings account and bought a lot of gold and silver. Not sexy, but 10 years from now, I'll have more than if I were to keep running to the casino.
Glad you're doing well and I wish you continued success at whatever you're doing!
This is exuberance on steroids. Are you still in accumulation mode or were you able to bail for a profit at some point?
Never in a million years would I have imagined the market being a these levels. Just mind numbing! The crazy thing is that everything is going up on steroids, market, gold, crypto etc. How does this all play out? How have you been doing, huka? The board has been terribly vacated...for good reason, I guess
Wow, and here we are in the 7s 2 mos later, dang
one of the most volatile days in a long time. Crazy range and action today! Started acting up in pre mkt. Endless surprises...step away for a few minutes and come back to an entire different scenario. Somehow I always end up shorting and missing these epic runs up. No matter, the run just as far in both directions.
Yea, a little overdue for one. I remember this guy on the TVIX board years ago, that was talking about how much money he made shorting it. Makes sense considering the overall decay and how many splits all of these funds have gone through over the years.
mannken, I've been on an off this board over the years and have really appreciated your presence and contribution here. I wish you the very best and I hope there is an acceptable future for all of us! I'm sure you'll drop in from time to time to check things out. Old habits don't die so easily Cheers!
This isn't going to end well, at all
smaller version of yesterday as far as the VIX is concerned.
Yep, it has been an epic crush. Well, here we are back in the gutter for a reload just a day later. As traders, we should be grateful...as rational human beings, you have to just shake your head at the bs of it all. I guess we should be happy for all of those folks invested in this fraud market. Just hope people don't get hurt eventually.
Best UVIX move in a long time
Wonder if they're gonna reach and exceed the all-time high just shy of 4800 S&P? Just watching the whole crazy show play out however it does.
Terrible English on that post, sorry got to proofread a little better
Very true all that you've laid out and as I said before, this "corrected" way of conducting affairs and doing business will never happen in our lifetime and an ugly collapse will have to occur before it will. How ugly will that be get in your opinion? What does a transition from the mess we're in, to a much healthier system actually occur without a lot of pain?
How does that work in the case of our own trillions of $$$ of debt? If debtor countries are forgiven, what about individuals mired in debt? Are the ones unable to pay forgiven? I guess chapter 7 bankruptcy is just that. At what cost is all of that debt forgiven and how much of it should be forgiven?
I've read and listened to read many accounts of what is wrong and criminal about our financial system. You have laid out much of that on this blog. My question to you is, how do we get out of this mess? Mannarino talks about tightening the money supply for starters, but it just seems like the steps to really begin to address the mess we're in, never get taken.
To you as well, huka, thanks!
Do you think that will affect online banking High interest savings accounts? What does one do with cash lying around other than buying gold and silver or other tangible assets?
UVXY into the 1s and UVIX in the 4s, just crazy decay on these ETFs
One of the biggest VIX crushing periods I can recall. Even during the pandemic run, we got some sizable moves in the VIX.
Like Greg Mannarino keeps saying, "where's the revolution?" over all of the above mentioned criminal manipulations of the financial system and the ongoing stranglehold being perpetrated on the middle class and poorer factions of this country. "Where is the outrage?" Perhaps they feel so powerless they can't even bring themselves to rise up and protest in any capacity. I feel like Bernie, regardless of whether or not you agreed with his policies, was the last prominent voice for the more disenfranchised of this country. He had policies of everyone having more equal skin in the game and more fairness in our systems and I appreciated that about him. Now all you hear about is the same old story of the richer screwing the poorer, in some form or fashion.
Thanks to you, sensei
Van Metre is calling for S&P 4500 in this current rally. I'm beginning to believe it...but I still want to see it. Can't believe it's over 4300.
Epic enough considering the circumstances we're in and the incessant downward trajectory. The new 52 week lows just keep coming.
Epic VIX crush going on, incredible. What a sinkhole...going nowhere but down. Trying some at UVIX 5.73...can't believe it's gone down this far, wow.
I know I shouldn't be surprised, but can't believe what I'm seeing with this VIX crush today. UVIX in the 7s, insane
Yeah, not behaving like it's a go yet. Next week will be interesting. I think a contract rollover is next week too. There was a rogue bullish blast today, I noticed, as I was flipping KOLD and saw the big dip there. Man, those moves happen so fast, it's almost literally in the blink of an eye. Wasn't holding at that point, thankfully. What a crazy rally in the market today. Never saw a move of that magnitude coming. No words anymore for the disconnect, but there ya have it.
Picked up some BOIL today at 2.99. Really gonna try to hold this for 2-3 months for a change and see if it (BOIL)gets back to 4.00. Near term outlook is bearish for NG, but we know how quickly things can change and summer, although may not be such a hot summer, will be summer all the same. Rig count is down and production is as well, apparently.
Relentless hammering of VIX today...even through AHs, dang. Lost 50 bucks today trying to trade long UVIX. Under the circumstances, I consider that a pretty good day You know it's bad when you can't even bring yourself to buy 100 shrs of UVIX at 9.05 in AHs, lol. It just feels like they will usher in the 8s tomorrow, we'll see about that. Just hard to believe the market pump has sent UVIX to low 9s. Never would have imagined that happening with all the chaos and uncertainty going on.
Kind of quiet on the board last couple of days...where'd everyone go?
Apparently so...
