But hasn't AAOI lagged their own estimates for several quarters now? Sounds like the CEO is a classic overpromise/underdeliver type. Why would you trust him now??
The BKTI guidance suggests some good quarters on the way. Company said Q2 & Q3 are their typically stronger quarters too. I think BKTI will be a great hold into their Q2 report as it should be a very favorable bottom line comp. Could see earnings of .30-.40/share or more, vs a loss last year. I picked up some shares today around $13 and will be accumulating.
FF reports today after the close. Any sense of how the quarter will look? Guess it depends on all the 1-timers. Reporting Friday AH usually not good, but it was delayed from yesterday. Tough comp and seasonally might be a weaker quarter (below). Risk/reward in the $5's seems decent though.
From the 10K-
Cyclicality and Seasonality
Biodiesel producers have historically experienced seasonal fluctuations in demand for biodiesel. Biodiesel demand has tended to be lower during the winter in northern and Midwestern states due to historical concerns about biodiesel’s ability to operate optimally in cold weather as compared to petrodiesel. This seasonal fluctuation has been strongest for biodiesel made from animal fats and used cooking oils. Biodiesel made from such feedstocks has a higher cloud point (which is the point at which a fuel begins to gel) than biodiesel produced from vegetable oils, such as soybean, canola, or crude corn oil.
The mandate for biodiesel usage as established by RFS2 may interject an additional seasonal fluctuation in our biodiesel business. Once the mandate for a calendar year is met, or is anticipated to be met, demand for biodiesel may decrease.
Wow crazy reversal on AAOI! From crashing to the $8's in AH yest. To a high in the $11.80's this morning?!? I don't get it...but I've never really understood the appeal of this one.
GENC another great quarter. Fiscal Q2 is their seasonally strongest. Already bidding higher premarket. Looks like $20 soon.
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/gencor-releases-second-quarter-fiscal-110000094.html
Thanks for the BMBL info! I didn't even catch the unusually low G&A expense in Q1. Duh. With their lousy balance sheet and earnings aided by 1-timers, stock seems plenty fairly valued.
Will take a look at FVRR. But I normally stay away from companies that have such a wide spread between GAAP & non-GAAP earnings.
Good instincts on HHS. Even without the restructuring charge, Q1 was pretty dang anemic. And sounds like things won't improve much til late Q3 (if then)...so could be dead money for awhile.
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/harte-hanks-reports-first-quarter-200500365.html
How'd the BKTI report look to ya? Q1 seemed pretty solid to me. They should be set up for a great looking Q2 comp. Backlog was up sequentially from $16M to $19M. Talked about higher margins & lower expenses on the way. Q2 & Q3 are seasonally stronger too. In the meantime, prob a good one to buy at $13 & under...and sell up near $15. The lack of topline growth and a boring sector (we sell radios!) might keep a lid on it.
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/bk-technologies-announces-first-quarter-110000224.html
Whoa brave on IMMR! They're sitting on a ton of cash and just reported huge top & bottom line increases for Q1. Lots of 1-time gains sure. And it's got the Singer stink. I wouldn't buy over $8, but I wouldn't short either. Never know what those crazy momo traders will do...
BMBL anyone? Healthy Q1 earnings improvement. Not a crazy low P/E and the balance sheet is rough...but the stock is not far from its 52-week low. Traded up over $12 just this morning. Looks interesting in the $10's
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/bumble-inc-announces-first-quarter-200500817.html
Yep IMMR looking good after a slow start. Despite an underwhelming earnings report considering all the money they got from Meta & Nintendo during the quarter. They didn't buy back a single share of stock in Q1 either. And the stock is still getting a nice 9% pop today. Why I posted several times on this board that I thought IMMR was an attractive hold into the Q1 report. And why I've been accumulating in the low $7's for weeks. I'm happy to take my profits. Easy money has been made imo, but maybe it runs higher. Hope it works out!
So IMMR won $17.3M from Meta...but then paid out even more than that for legal expenses in the quarter?? I'm no lawyer but that sounds like a terrible deal.
Also interesting...despite having over $41M available for share repurchases...they didn't buy back a single share in Q1. Wonder why not?? From the 10Q-
During 2023, we repurchased 1,217,774 shares of our common stock for $8.3 million at average purchase price of $6.77 per share. We did not repurchase any stock during the three months ended March 31, 2024. As of March 31, 2024, we had $41.7 million available for repurchase under the December 2022 Stock Repurchase Program.
I think the stock might pop a little higher tomorrow. $10 seems like a crazy stretch. Wouldn't be surprised if IMMR even finished red since lots of people were expecting that big 1-timer from Meta to boost Q1 earnings.
Funky numbers from IMMR. They recognized the $17.5M from Meta as revenue? But then a huge jump in G&A expense too?? Weird. The way it looks, the bottom line woulda stunk excluding the 1-time Meta boost.
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/immersion-corporation-reports-first-quarter-201500906.html
Could be right on HHS. But I don't think people are expecting Q1 to be a strong quarter. Could still be a favorable comp. With a promise of more cost cutting & better earnings to come later this year. At least I hope...
Hopefully you grabbed some more CSPI. Low of $11.11. I was tempted below $12. Now up 11% on the day to the $13.70's. Dang.
One of several mistakes I made today. Thought SNCR had an interesting earnings report. Tried to snag some at the open but gapped up over my orders. Then the stock flew much higher from the opening price. Also was tempted to short a few SIGA into earnings after the stock had more than doubled recently. Didn't. And of course it's plunging 28% today.
Yep I'm just playing IMMR as a quick scalp. Should be a big headline EPS number from the Meta 1-time gain.
IDR working out nicely so far. Trimming a few in the mid $9's. Just to guarantee it goes over $10 soon.
CSPI bottom line looks good. But what's going on with the top line?? Revenues down over 10% sequentially, and pretty flat vs last year (when there was no AZT). Lowest revenue in several quarters. So that's not great. Stock could still trade higher, but I think the disappointing revenue keeps a lid on it.
Thanks on KLNG. Aha I used to own DPDW on & off for years. Probably the same lumpy quarters but the earnings PR mentioned continued strong order intake in Q1. Plus they won this multimillion dollar contract in April after Q1 ended-
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/koil-energy-secures-major-contract-172000974.html
I bought a few in the .60's. KLNG earned .05/share in Q1 and they've got some easy comps coming up. If we see any more quarters like Q1 (or maybe even better), the stock could pop up to $1+. But not exactly one to load up on.
Anyone follow KLNG? Excellent Q1 results, but not sure how sustainable-
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/koil-energy-solutions-inc-announces-201000557.html
I take it you're looking for CXDO to deliver some big Q1 numbers tomorrow after the bell? The Q4 bottom line was pretty underwhelming. Stock got whacked as a result. Can't get a sense of what to expect tomorrow. The 4/16/24 PR seems to bode well at least.
New 52-week high today. Stock has been rocking lately. Congrats! Any concerns holding into Q1 earnings next week? TSSI has had some lumpy quarters in the past. Will be an easy comp at least.
I added some IDR as well. After it pulled back from over $9 earlier down to the $8.40's. Like the sound of this CEO quote from today's earnings PR-
Mr. Swallow concluded, "Over the past 10 years our team has built a truly unique business in the resources sector and now have the right assets in the right locations at the right time. We've produced a record Q1 and Q2 is off to a great start. It is gratifying to see the business reach this level of profitability and to be able to reinvest a meaningful amount into future growth initiatives. I am as energized as ever over the position and direction of the company, and I get to work alongside a group (including my two sons) whose efforts have a direct and positive impact on the communities where we operate. We are only in the early innings of a game we intend to win."
With gold over $2300/oz, they should be set up for excellent comps all year. Their rare earth element angle also gives this one some pump potential imo
Also from today's PR-
Idaho Strategic Resources (IDR) is an Idaho-based gold producer which also owns the largest rare earth elements land package in the United States. The Company's business plan was established in anticipation of today's volatile geopolitical and macroeconomic environment. IDR finds itself in a unique position as the only publicly traded company with growing gold production and significant blue-sky potential for rare earth elements exploration and development in one Company.
Nice post on IART. It is tempting down here. Today's 20% selloff is overdone imo considering how much the stock had already dropped into the report. Researcher had a great point though...what do you think about the wide disparity between GAAP & non-GAAP earnings? I have no problem when adjusted earnings are a little higher, but such a dramatic difference seems troubling.

Nice bounce on CSPI after dropping below $12 on Thursday. I had snagged a few for fun. Not sure if I want to hold into earnings Wed morning. Probably meh numbers with a bullish outlook on AZT. Guessing market likes it, but who knows.
Thanks for the FONR alert! Rebounding 6% today to the $17's. Already trimming a few. Wish I'd gotten a lot more in the $15's after your post. That steep selloff from $20+ on no news was strange. Think FONR should report very solid, albeit flattish, fiscal Q3 results next week.
Looks like IDR had over $20M in NOLs as of 12/31/23. So should be good for awhile. They did sound bullish on Q2 & beyond. I'll be accumulating. Up quite a bit today, so hoping it pulls back some.
From the last 10K-
At December 31, 2023, the Company had net operating loss carry forwards of approximately $20,348,000 for both federal and state purposes, $10,670,000 of which expire between 2023 through 2037. The remaining balance of $9,678,000 will never expire but its utilization is limited to 80% of taxable income in any future year.
Added some OPXS on this nice contract today. Backlog over $47M!
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/optex-systems-announces-3-8-110000521.html
OPXS also announced this smaller contract last week-
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/optex-systems-announces-1-5-124200998.html
Stock isn't as cheap as it used to be. But I think there's still upside from the low $7's. OPXS should post a favorable fiscal Q2 comp next week. And then possibly some monster quarters after that.
Anyone follow IDR? Terrific Q1 numbers this morning. I don't know much about mining stocks, but this one seems undervalued. Picked up a starter position.
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/idaho-strategic-reports-first-quarter-103000145.html
Another nice recovery on SMCI. Down near $700 on Wednesday. Up over $800 today. Congrats to those who bought. I was tempted, but never pulled the trigger.
Anyone follow OSPN? Terrific Q1 numbers caught my eye. Seems to be unusually strong though. CC talked about how some revenue got delayed into the quarter...and pulled forward from future quarters. Think $5M in total. I like the cost cutting at least. Guidance for the rest of the year suggests more tepid results going forward. But the stock has a low in the $11's today, high in the $14's. So might be worth trading.
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/onespan-reports-first-quarter-2024-200100407.html
Wow futures are soaring! I didn't quite understand what was it about the jobs report that was so incredibly bullish?
Nice alert on DTRK! Bought a tiny amount for fun. Stock is super cheap (even after today's 500% move ha). But the liquidity could quickly dry up after today's explosion. They don't release PRs on the newswires. And we may not see another financial statement from them for another year. Kinda weird too...when you go to their website, you get directed to their Fountayn subsidiary. Does Datatrack not have a website? Pretty shocking for a software company. Doesn't exactly scream cutting-edge technology.
https://www.fountayn.com/about
GENC is cheaper than most infrastructure stocks imo. But yeah, it's moved up some...so I'm taking profits too. They should report their seasonally strong fiscal Q2 numbers next week. Should be another great quarter, based on the large backlog increase last quarter. Won't be the easiest comp tho. I think the stock gets a bump higher, but I def liked GENC more in the $15's
CSPI looks interesting around $12 after the sharp pullback. Earnings in less than 2 weeks. Easier comp at least. Supposed to see 1st revenues from AZT. I'll prob pick up a few shares heading into the report. Unfortunately the stock is still overvalued based on the puny fundamentals. But if they offer an exciting outlook for AZT, the stock could def shoot higher.
GPN down 9% today. What was it about this morning's Q1 report that the market didn't like?
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/global-payments-reports-first-quarter-105500080.html
Tempted to join ya on SMCI. Was in the mid $900's in AH yest. Seems like only a matter of time before it shoots higher again...
Buying back some BURCA in the mid $12's. Boring stock with an excellent 7.3% dividend yield. Seems like an attractive place to park some cash in this wobbly market.
And I thought their Q1 report last week was very solid. Flat earnings. But the year ago Q1 was unusually strong. So quite a feat to match that. I was expecting a sharp decline in Q1 earnings.
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/burnham-holdings-inc-reports-first-153000295.html
Glad you made some money on the MIND preferreds. Funny I skimmed the CC transcript this morning. They actually said they wouldn't be answering any questions on the call about the preferred situation. Think I also heard that $5M in revenue was delayed from Q3 into Q4. Backlog still very strong, but sounds like some lumpy quarters coming up. I'm staying away with the preferred mess. But she's got a low float so who knows.
Nice AH pop on SMCI. Or at least it was. Now down 6% after being up over 10%. This one sure is volatile!
