Yes it does, North America has a vast amount of natty gas. Unfortunately the US hasnt built anymore LNG terminals anywhere lately. There were some slated for construction under the Bush administration but they got scrapped after BO got elected.
California has I think 1 LNG port with the main emphasis being in the GOM and the east coast
Yes Thomas Boone has been preaching the use of Natural Gas vehicles for mainly infrastructure ie. mass transit and such.
I think the way he laid it out is if the United States converted inner city transit vehicles to natty gas that would lessen the demand for foreign oil
Waste Management is one of the first major companies to convert their fleet of vehicles to natty gas and it may be the flagship for their think green campaign
Warehouse hi-lo forklifts have been run by natty gas for years
I for one am happy to see the switch regardless of the drive behind it
The use of nat gas by WM has been driven by air quality concerns in CA.
As I understand it, the change has proved to be cost effective for WM and improved air quality as a side benefit.
Of course that is the point the Boone Pickens has been making for some time.
Natural gas has always been the primary source of inexpensive fuel. Many companies already realize this (WM included), and are capitalizing on it. LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) projects are popping up all over the middle east and spreading. The USA allegedly has a significant natural gas reserve under its lands.
Diesel and gasoline have jumped 40% in price over the past year despite flat demand. In comparison. WM claims that CNG is a domestically sourced fuel with stable supplies and more predictable long-term pricing.

I hope so, that would be the perfect marriage
Waste Management will be dealing with JBII sooner or later. WM can not afford to let JBI get away.
Waste Management and JBII would be the perfect match IMO. Even though WM is trying to convert their fleet of vehicles to Natural gas, how can they not wrap their head around JBI's technology.
I find it interesting that WM is sponsoring Agilyx wanting to establish 4 facilities in the greater Buffalo area
But apples to apples Agilyx emission will have to meet or exceed JBI's, which are less then a home furnace exhaust.
As I understand what was said at the AGM, WM came into JBI and did a waste management audit. JBI passed it. That information was then passed back to Chrysler. Chrysler has agreed to send JBII it's waste plastic. How WM fits into that picture is not clear.
Perhaps WM is still doing the plastic pick up and delivery for Chrysler. One would think that WM then charges Chrysler less money since there are no longer any tipping fees involved.
Is WM playing hardball with JBII but delivering the scrap to NFNY from Chrysler? Is that what was said at the AGM? WM is kind of working with JBII but not entirely, its a little cloudy
ya right! the innovation these days is staggering and the dividend isnt bad either
Internet connected trash compactors. What will they think of next?
Having a compactor that calls home and says come empty me could be a helpful thing for businesses.
WM continues to pursue the green technologies.
todays news has nothing to do with Waste Management
Stock : Wallbridge Mining (WM)
I listened to the last conference call where the CEO mentioned waste management Is he meaning waste management as a whole industry or does he mean waste management like in this company?
Waste Management invests in another "Green" technology. The PR doesn't say how much money is involved or what percentage of the company they bought.
This time a biomass to Syngas outfit.

Waste Management (NYSE:WM) today announced a strategic investment in Agnion Energy, Inc. (Agnion) to advance Agnion's allothermal gasification technology. Waste Management joins other investors in Agnion including, Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers, Munich Venture Partners and Wellington Partners.
(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20090219/WMLOGO)
Agnion's innovative allothermal gasification technology converts solid biomass feedstock into a high hydrogen and carbon monoxide-rich synthetic gas (syngas) with exceptionally high heating value. The syngas is ideally suited for combined heat and power applications and can be converted into liquids, hydrogen, and methanol di-methyl-ether and or substitute natural gas.
Agnion's unique and simple Heatpipe-Reformer design provides a flexible, small-scale on-site gasification technology solution for relatively low capital cost. Typical customers for this technology are end-users looking for solutions to their high heating and electricity demands, such as schools/universities, warehouses/distribution centers, shopping malls, hotels and hospitals.
"Waste Management wants to maximize the value of the materials it manages", said Tim Cesarek, managing director of Organic Growth at Waste Management. "Agnion's technology complements Waste Management's advancement of thermo-chemical conversion technology platforms and could enhance our suite of waste processing options."
Agnion CEO, Dr. Stephan Mey stated: "We view the fact that North America's largest residential recycler and leading waste and environmental solutions provider has decided to invest in Agnion and our Heatpipe-Reformer technology as a tremendous honor and a vote of confidence. Our first commercial biomass gasification plant is currently under construction in the Bavarian town of Grassau and we plan to build other plants in Europe and North America."
The investment complements Waste Management's other chemical conversion technology platforms including Enerkem, S4 Energy Solutions, Terrabon and Agilyx. This agreement will also help move Waste Management toward meeting two of its sustainability goals: doubling its renewable energy production by 2020, and investing in emerging technologies for managing waste.

Helps cities and municipalities improve stormwater quality
HOUSTON — April 20, 2011 — Waste Management, Inc. (NYSE: WM) today announced that it has entered into an agreement with AbTech Industries under which Waste Management will provide SmartSponge® to its customers including municipalities. Under the agreement, Waste Management has become the exclusive waste and environmental services company distributor of SmartSponge® in North America.
This new product is available now from Waste Management in Los Angeles and will be available soon in additional cities and municipalities throughout North America.
The new product uses an innovative and patented sponge-like material with polymers to filter, absorb and solidify petroleum hydrocarbons. It also removes other pollutants found in runoff from roads and other paved surfaces during wet weather, cleaning or through direct spills. The product’s registration as an antimicrobial that reduces coliform bacteria found in stormwater, has been approved by the EPA. Once used, the product can be safely and responsibly disposed of in a waste-to-energy facility as an alternative fuel in the production of electricity or in a landfill as municipal solid waste.
“Our customers will see enhanced compliance with water quality regulations through improved stormwater quality,” said Paul Pistono, vice president of WM’s Public Sector Solutions. “Stormwater pollution is the leading cause of water quality problems in the U.S., according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. We can now offer our city and municipal customers a new technology that will help them keep their communities cleaner.”
WM soon will begin offering the new service to its municipal customers in Northern Florida, North and South Carolina and Eastern Canada.

very good WM news today as the share price increases. This was mentioned in their PR, eCycle
http://greenopolis.com/wm/nyecycles
As far as I know there is no official relationship between JBI and WM.
I do recall that WM made a substantial investment in a potential green technology company recently. I'll see if I can track that down and post it.
Thx for the reply.

Has anyone called the recycle america alliance to see if they are involved in the audit?
http://www.recycleamerica.com/
WM continues to explore different technologies to utilize waste products and recycle them. This new initiative to use bacteria to convert syngas into plastics is a great example.
This is just one a number of approaches WM is spending money on.
I look for WM to continue doing these types of projects. Some will be much closer to production than this one.
Wish we would get some feedback on WM's audit of JBI.
That is a partnership that could be of great value to both companies.

Plastics from e-scrap recycling can be very interesting, depends on the purity you generate.........take a look on other companies in this market and you will see what is needed. From my research you can get 300 $ per MT, where transport cost sure have an impact on ........but its still interesting. WM do have the logistic but they need to be locked in real recycling business which they are not in the moment. Lots of marketing no real activities. But this will come.
Recycling plastics can be very expensive. The market for used plastic is such that if the user is more that couple of hundred miles from the source, shipping costs become prohibited.
An electronic recycler I am familiar with has found markets for everything but the various plastics. The plastic has been offerred sorted, free of metal, to various firms free except for shipping, but no one is willing to pay the shipping cost. So unfortunately it winds up in a landfill.
Waste Management is already in the recycling biz. It seems that most of the plastics that they receive here in the DALLAS area wind up in land fills according to the Dallas Morning News.

right up Waste Managements alley
Looks like a loan guarantee. Still that should help him get it going.
There are a few other companies that are further along that aren't getting stimulus money.
check out this guy, he just got $100,000,000.00 for his biomass project

WM has contracts to do recycling in a lot of places. How much of the materials actually get recycled and how much goes to the dump anyway?
