Down another 2.5% today...come on baby keep the losses coming!
I think PMTR will test it's high fairly soon...
...I'd be looking for an entry on a brief pullback from here, perhaps a quick test of the 50 day at 3.49
nsomniyak,,,been thinking that some weakness in wegi could eventually offer better entry...Looked like it left a gap around .18 before the summer began...I might speculate on it at that level but it wouldn't be for a long term play...Let us know what you pick up Friday...The number of possibilities looks pretty large, imo...LJ

Wohh! A 4 way tie.
Len
ok--cash burning a hole in my pocket (small hole, but, nonetheless), need a couple ideas for month-end lowballs.
Thesis--demand evaporates for some microcaps every month end. A fishing line in the water , even in a quiet spot, might just get hit.
So--what stocks do you think I could buy tomorrow or Thursday and flip for 10% next week?
If one week flips aren't your style then just move on by this post. If, on the other hand, you too look for the chance to scalp a buck or two at month end--whaddaya got?
I'm thinking GACF, YPNT, more PTSC if it wasn't alreay my biggest position by far, and in th VMC-ZCC realm possibly HMSG.
I'm looking pretty strong! I'm already winning by 2% (actually losing). From a super strong week last week to giving it all back in 2 days.

I'm going to try my best to go from the best (almost) one week to the worst the next. I've already done it on a daily basis, but now I want it for weekly. I'm down over 8% today on top of ~2.5% yesterday.
from what I can tell the acquisition is non-dilutive--extremely so. My back of the envelope numbers say they made a little under half a million this quarter on a 65MM share base, and the company being acquired for just under 8MM shares made 1.2MM in the quarter.
VPHM rally but none of us have VPHM..
don't know much about CHID but like you said in Q3 they will get a lot of more revenue.. the 2 question will be..
will it be profitable revenue (which I'm sure it is)
how did they acquire galaxy view.. wil it dilute the shares
moreover how comfortaleare you with their overall business.. will the existing business sale drop continue...
Stan
-----------------------------------
In the meantime, our results in the third quarter will reflect a significant financial benefit from the acquisition of Galaxy View International, which occurred on June 28, 2006."
he ain't heavy.. he's my brother....
4 more days to go bro... :)
OK--for my team 2 teammates, or anyone else who wants to jump in--please educate me about CHID. I see declining revenues but an acquisition that might change the numbers substantially.
Would you buy it now? Wait for tax selling?
OK, team 2, let's sing along (apologies in advance to any Hollies fans out there)...

SWB: Wild Card Performance:
Each week SSK does an index report. Here is the latest one.
http://www.investorshub.com/boards/read_msg.asp?message_id=12923875
The relevant part is this.
Average Wildcard Index: -15.32%
Average Non Wildcard Index: -7.41%
Average Wildcard Index (Weighted Average): -15.45%
Average Non Wildcard Index (Weighted Average): -5.63%
Whether weighted or not, the average non wild card stock has outperformed the average wild card stock by a substantial amount. This is consistent with relatively weak performance. The weaker microcaps are, the MORE weaker (almost certainly) the non-earning micro cap wild cards will be.
Len
Len, SSKILLZ1:
Are we tracking how the wild card picks are doing as a group in comparison with the qualified value microcaps?
Just curious . . .
Steve
let the game begin... 5 days... for these result:
1. team 1 vs team 2 result..
2. c1001 vs Mike
3. PSL final week (and final days of the week)
4. PSL 3 overall
5. Maybe later we'll also see result for PSL1,2,3 combined (several statistics)
what a week.. hope we have an up week just to make things more interesting/cheerful..

Stan
Nsom:
Yowsa! And, I thought my stuff was complicated!
"So, what does this mean? I guess it means I root for NMKT and ETLT to finish the contest soft, as they are both 3x holdings for team 1. CHID and PTSC are double-weighted for team 2. So it is NMKT and ETLT (and the rest for team 1) vs. PTSC and CHID (and the rest) for team 2.Let's hope a bidding war does not erupt for EZM. ANd another license for PTSC and a hurricane (ADDL) would help me too."
As for me, I'm keeping it simple. I'm rooting for a higher percentage return for Team 2 versus Team 1. I don't have enough brain cells left to keep track of all the individual stocks. That's what the computer is for.... and then SSK, of course.
Len
LJ:
Nothing silly about it. I'm glad you asked.
"if a person instructs their broker on Monday to buy QID,,,do you make money if QID rises in value because the Nasdaq 100 index is declining in value at the same time?"
YES
"Does double-beta short mean that they move 2 times in value in the opposite direction that the index is moving?"
YES. For example, if you took the ETF short on the Nasdaq (QID) and the Nasdaq dropped 5%, you would be +10% on your short position.
Len
ll right--we are in the finals and we ar eunderdogs! Best possible scenario.
So--what does trhe cumulative portfolio of these teams look like?
Here is my unofficial tally:
For team one (with, remarkably, two top ten players and no one worse than 22nd--easily in the top 25%):
original positions--
Stanu78 - CXTI.OB, ETLTE.OB, HQSM.OB, ITEX.OB, NMKT.OB, PYOL.OB
ABH3VT - BBC, CKGT.OB, SIMC, TBYH.OB, TSSW.OB, YPNT.OB
Networm - ACSEF, ASPN.OB, ETLTE.OB, MPET, NGA, UFPT
Digitech - CPHI.OB, DAAT.OB, EZM, HBM.TO, NMKT.OB, PDGE.OB
Trades:
ABH3Bvt-- SIMC for CEDA, CKGT (freeze), tssw for csstf
Digitech - CPHI for NMKT, PDGE for TGB
networm - NGA freeze, UAPT for GACF
Stanu78 - ITEX for AWRCF, PYOL for ETLT, AWRCF for AOB.
For team two (definitely an underdog,it would seem):
original positions:
Nsomniyak - DSEN.OB, EZM, HBM.TO, PTSC.OB, TCRS.PK, ZENX.OB
Lentinman - ACSEF, AEY,BBC, BSM, CHID.OB, CXTI.OB
Apish - COR, EZM, IAIC.OB, PRVB.OB, TBYH.OB, UCTT
Erewontim - ALRG.OB, CTIG.OB, DWVS.OB, ILNP.OB, LINN.OB, VFIN.OB
Trades:
NSOMNIYAK EZM into PTSC (double). HBM into FRPT, TCRS into TELT
Lentinman - AEY into ACSEF, CTXI into CHID
Apish - EZM for CEDA
Erehwontim - none
Disregarding the effect of trade at different prices creating something more or less that "full shares", that leaves us with, unofficially:
Team one - ACSEF, AOB, ASPN.OB, BBC, CEDA, CKGT.OB (frozen), CSSTF, CXTI.OB, DAAT.OB, ETLTE.OB (3), EZM, GACF, HBM.TO, HQSM.OB, MPET, NGA (frozen), NMKT.OB (3), TGB, TBYH.OB, YPNT.OB
Team two - ACSEF (2), ADDL (was ZENX), ALRG.OB, BBC, BSM, CEDA, CHID.OB (2), COR, CTIG.OB, DSEN.OB, DWVS.OB, FRPT, IAIC.OB, ILNP.OB, LINN.OB, PRVB.OB, PTSC.OB (2), TBYH.OB, TELT, UCTT, VFIN.OB,
We can cancel out the BBC, CEDA, TYBH and one ACSEF, and drop the frozen positions as they won't affect returns the next two weeks, giving
Team one - AOB, ASPN.OB, CSSTF, CXTI.OB, DAAT.OB, ETLTE.OB (3), EZM, GACF, HBM.TO, HQSM.OB, MPET, NMKT.OB (3), TGB, YPNT.OB
Team two - ACSEF , ADDL (was ZENX), ALRG.OB, BSM, CHID.OB (2), COR, CTIG.OB, DSEN.OB, DWVS.OB, FRPT, IAIC.OB, ILNP.OB, LINN.OB, PRVB.OB, PTSC.OB (2), TELT, UCTT, VFIN.OB
So, what does this mean? I guess it means I root for NMKT and ETLT to finish the contest soft, as they are both 3x holdings for team 1. CHID and PTSC are double-weighted for team 2.
So it is NMKT and ETLT (and the rest for team 1) vs. PTSC and CHID (and the rest) for team 2.
Let's hope a bidding war does not erupt for EZM. ANd another license for PTSC and a hurricane (ADDL) would help me too.
All of this is unofficial--I could easily have missed a trade in there...
Okay,,,I volunteer to ask the silly questions...For instance, if a person instructs their broker on Monday to buy QID,,,do you make money if QID rises in value because the Nasdaq 100 index is declining in value at the same time?...Does double-beta short mean that they move 2 times in value in the opposite direction that the index is moving?...These are only hypothetical questions...LJ
Both are pretty amazing. Given the way you formed the teams, based on PSL2 performance, the Team1-Team2 final is a data point suggesting that players who dedictae themselves to a VMC approach can do pretty well.
PSL4 - One Modification - SHORTING:
We are very happy with the way the rules are set up for PSL3. It took three contests to get it just right, but we think we just about have it.
SHORTING
We decided to allow one thing that we have not allowed in the past. Part of the reason for this is because there has been more discussion of shorting on VMC than in the past. But, the main reason is because the markets have weakened from previous PSL contests and our group performance in PSL3 showed it.
Thus, we think it makes sense to allow selected shorts as one option for the WILD CARD.
In PSL3, the WILD CARD could be a stock that had no earnings or no reporting. That is still true. If you want to make that your WILD CARD, you can. However, if you want to make it a short, you can do that instead. Theoretically, it could be a non-earner and then you could trade it for a short later.
SHORT DEFINITION: The shorts that will be allowed will be "market shorts - ETF's" as opposed to individual stock shorts. The only ones we know of are below:
Nasdaq 100: QID
S&P 500: SDS
S&P MidCap 400: MZZ
Dow Jones Industrial Average: DXD
These are all double-beta shorts against the corresponding index.
----------------------------------------
One more thought on this. Let's say you are fairly negative on the markets. Some of you may feel you have a hard time coming up with 6 long positions before September 15th for PSL4. However, by allowing a short position, here is an example of what you could do.
Pick 3 longs, GE, 1 short, 1 cash. You cannot double down for two weeks, but after two weeks, double down your GE into cash and you have 3 longs, 2 cash and 1 short (which is a double-beta market short). As you can see, this is a VERY conservative position.
Now, let's say as the contest goes on, you decide you are more optimistic. You still have two transactions left. You could, hypothetically, trade your 2 cash positions into a new long and you could either trade your short into a new long or double it down into one of your other 3 longs. Either way, you are back to 100% long.
-------------------------
The short position simply gives a person more flexibility if they are either 1) Not optimistic on the markets or 2) Cannot come up with 6 longs out of the gate.
Len
Stanu78, Here goes.
but as far as individual.. how much of it is luck?
An Individual in an individual contest. I would say A lot is luck. Yet there is some skill involved, with how to use you trades. It has nothing to do with results of the trade either, because that is an after the fact. Just from a trade strategy perspective some trades are good and others are not so good in my opinion. However, if a person is consistently good (Top 20-25) almost every contest then I would have to believe that person isn't just lucky but good. However, we know most of these people that enter the contest are good regardless where they finish in the contest, we allready seen them at work with there picks over on the value microcap board, it is no fluke that we will do well over the long haul.
what is luck anyway? is there such things as luck? (maybe only exist in lottery/casino?)
When you are lucky, when you make mistakes you don't pay for it. For example the people that brought SIMC the day of the accounting irregularities at the lows of the day and sold at then end of the day a substancial profit. Those people are the luckiest people alive, because as I said before they weren't good, they were lucky.
As for bad luck it happens, even when you do something that you feel is smart, and it doesn't work out. And you go on a stretch of weeks where things just keep going wrong no matter what you do. I may be one of the luckiest/Unluckiest traders I have ever seen. I mean I go in stretches, and it has nothing to do with what the market is doing, Sometimes I could fall off a cliff when the market actually goes up over several weeks, and sometimes I could do the opposite for stretches. Even with some of my quick trade, some times I sell at quick profits everytime, and sometimes I don't. Overall I win out because I'm a decent trader, but there certainly is a thing as luck in my opinion, both bad and good, and I experiance stretches of both.
Several person (who probably have their shares of unluckiness) told me that being lucky is better than being good.
In the short run they are probably right (If we are talking about good luck), but since I believe it is about building a long run approach to success, I rather be good. Because luck always runs out eventually in my opinion.
In my opinion luck (Both good and bad) will run in stretches. However being good/bad as something to do with your luck. If you are good your good streak will last a little longer then your bad. If you don't do good DD, and make mistake chasing stocks to the moon, chances are you are going to have a lot more bad streaks then good. My point being that luck (What kind it is) is correlated to how good you are in the long run. In the short run, you could be a good trader/Investor and get hammered even when the market isn't going down. So in my opinion Luck exists, but can be controlled over long stretches by how good we are, will determine which kind of luck you will have more of. We will all have stretches of bad luck and good luck. The good investors make the good luck streaks last longer. That is at least my take of it anyways. Granted I could always be wrong though.
Stan: ETLT:
It isn't quite accurate to say that if ETLT goes wild, our two teams will be a wash. It depends upon how big a percentage of your present portfolio ETLT is. In my case, ETLT is 30.4% versus 33.3% (which is 2 units out of 6 - all else being equal). I don't know what percentage ETLT is of your total portfolio, but I'm guessing it is over 33%.
In any event, to the degree that it is more than 30.4% of your portfolio, then it is also true that the better ETLT does, the more it helps you (and your team) than me (and my team).
Len
Len, I was wondering if you just made up the % but then I remembr that you are a statistician/mathmematician..
and those % add up to 200% which is correct (as there are 2 teams that will move to the finals)
Stan
that you can figure it out is more amazing len. I have to read it more than twice to understand...
may the best team win len...
we both have double ETLT so any move in ETLT will be a wash out.. which will make the game even more interesting because initially I thought we might pull a win due to ETLT as I think it might continue to go up..
Stan
Good versus luck? which one is better and which one reflect the result of the PSL3 (for each contestant)
for the team, we've discussed before and settled that the group definitely are not random/luck.. and in a bigger group such as the top half of the PSL2 beat the bottom half of the PSL2 in the PSL 3.
but as far as individual.. how much of it is luck?
what is luck anyway? is there such things as luck? (maybe only exist in lottery/casino?)
Several person (who probably have their shares of unluckiness) told me that being lucky is better than being good..
while many others (mostly those who work hard, some successful and some just starting or on their way there) told me that luck is a residue of being good.. (meaning you keep trying to do good and work hard and good outcome will someday come which then people can say luck has come their way)
I know this is a weird discussion topic (and probably soe people will think it's dumb as luck is subjective and probably doesn't even exist) but we often said it all the times. good luck.. GLTA.. etc...
and final question.. what is it going to be.. if you have to choose.. do you want to be lucky? or good?
Stan
man we barely have enough to make it to the finals.. I though we won this week... too bad we didn't finish 11-3
so close though.. hope we win it this wwek.. and let Len write another apology letter... (provided he lost it for the team).. again? hehehe... well they are in the finals..
I guess they can't complain too much..
