Agreed and I have no problem with "normal" seniors but I don't think the senile should be deciding who runs the government.
Fact of the matter is though the seniors are responsible for the society we have today. They elected FDR. They elected LBJ and moved the country away from the legacy of the Thomas Paine's and Thomas Jefferson and towards the welfare regulatory nanny state. They voted in the politicians who created medicare.
I have no respect for them as a group and I think they are milking the rest of us dry. That said if they are mentally competent, mature, and self sufficient they should be allowed to vote just like any 19 year old.
I won't pass judgement on young people until I give them a chance to fail as miserably in preserving the legacy of our forefathers as our seniors have.
I guess we go from worse to bad. LOL.
MSGI: The country is over. Done. Obama says amnesty for illegals the day he takes office. McCain talks about closing the borders.
Well, hello, Juan. The President of the U.S., Mr. Open-Borders Bush, is a member of your party. You say, Juan, you will first work on closing the borders? Well why don't you take your rear end to the White House and demand that they do it now? They are still coming in. Here's a news flash. IN England they arrive in boats. Think they are coming here in boats, too? Think all of those Chinese container ships are transporting only trash for The Dollar Tree stores to sell? Think only Latinos are coming in illegally?
You say, Juan, that you couldn't deport the family of a U.S. soldier who is fighting for this country. Well, moron, you could make an exception and give amnesty to the immediate families of such people. Do you think we are going to buy that crap, Mr. McCain? U have to come up with a better argument. It is way lame, even for you.
Obama. Don't get me started. He's for change. He's awesome. Che Gueverra was for change.
I can only pray that McCain, if elected, would appoint Rudy as Attorney General. At least the criminal illegals would be deported. That would be better than nothing.
I LOVE Latinos. And I love the idea that they live in their home countries and that one day their home countries will provide them with the opportunities that they deserve because they are wonderful people. They deserve better. But I don't want the resources of this country stretched to the limit because they are here instead of there. It scares the bejesus (pronounced "be hay soos") out of me to think what will happen to the medical system here after amnesty.
Oh, "s***"! That about sums it up.
Big improvement over what we now have!
RE:I ain't voting for McCain; I ain't voting for Clinton; and I sure has "h" ain't voting for Obama.
It sure is hard to believe that these are the best that our country can come up with for president.
I have nothing against normal young people. I do have something against a society that let's extremely immature people decide who the next leader of the country will be. Or undereducated morons, for that matter.
I don't know of anyone who has gotten rich off of Social Security. The problem with the Social Security program is the disability part of the program. Without the disability program, Social Security would not have a solvency problem.
And seniors did not invent Medicare. That was the handiwork of the liberal idiots who ran Lyndon Johnson's administration.
And who has more wrecks? Teens for seniors? Do seniors ride around while text messaging.
I don't want to live in a society that let's seniors live in poverty. That was the norm before the Social Security Program came along. It was a good idea, but the law was fatally flawed in that benefits are paid by the current workforce--FICA taxes. Had they created a pension program by which everyone paid in the same amount and took out the same amount per month at retirement, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
The Social Security Program needs to be completely redesigned. It was based on an era of different demographics. Men obediently dropped dead in their 60's, often within a year of retiring. The creators of SS overlooked the fact that women tend to live foreever. A VERY flawed program--good in concept, bad in execution.
You cannot have pure capitalism or pure socialism. History shows that things in excess turn to the opposite. The U.S. swung from extreme socialism of the 1960's and 1970's to extreme capitalism under King Ronald. We are on the verge of swinging back to more than extreme socialism.
I ain't voting for McCain; I ain't voting for Clinton; and I sure has "h" ain't voting for Obama. They were made at the same factory.
I still say that if I had put that money into a mutual fund, I would be getting at least 5 times what I now get. As for 19 year olds voting, I have no problem with that.
Actually got part of that wrong
Here is the historical rate of contribution. As you can see most of them paid a much lower rate but it was last 2% in the late 50's.
http://www.ssa.gov/history/pdf/t2a3.pdf
Would agree except the contribution levels were much lower when many of them were contributing. I think it was something like 2% combined contribution as late as the early 70's.
Those taxes have been ratcheted up big time in the last 20 years. Tack onto that medicare and the new prescription drug program which they didn't pay a dime for and you can see the pattern. Those programs are close to what? a Trillion dollars a year?
Its a whole lot of money and those previously meager payroll taxes don't begin to cover it.
That aside I think its outrageous to suggest they should be allowed to vote but a 19 year old should not.
RE: My problem with seniors is they are bankrupting this country with their greed for larger and larger entitlements.
I'm not sure that I can agree with that. Seniors collecting social security paid into that. I think that the average SS check is about $1K per month. If we would have put the SS deductions from out paychecks into a growth fund, we would probably get about $5K per month. Then there was the 2.2% increase in January based on the cost of living. You know as well as I do that the government fudged those numbers so that the COLA came out to 2.2% when in fact it was about 8%. I think that the seniors are getting screwed. However, the people in the 40 to 65 age group are getting screwed too. And if the government gives amnesty to the illegal aliens, we will all be getting screwed even more.
What do you have against young people?
It seems perfectly fair if you are going to restrict a mentally competent 19 year old you can restrict the 92 year old who just gave the nice roofer who showed up at her door 20k to fix her roof.
My problem with seniors is they are bankrupting this country with their greed for larger and larger entitlements. That is all. Thats not the point though.
The point was your disdain for the young leads you to want to disenfranchise them. When I pointed out the same argument can be made for seniors you had a bit of a fit.
gilead23: I don't know what you have against seniors, but that is YOUR problem. Deal with it.
Maybe the voting age should be cut off at 70
Never saw a 19 year old drive his Grand Marquis through the plate glass window at the farmers market. Seems if there is a mental competency issue on the young end that we ought to consider one on the older end as well.
Given the immaturity of your average senior who wants every entitlement under the sun whether we can afford it or not I think its no less appropriate.
In sum I can deal with a competency test for voting but not an age based one. If you are an adult age should not be an issue.
Michael Savage made a good one yesterday: Despairing about the three candidates, he calls them (McCain, Clinton and Obama)"the creatures from the Black Lagoon".
I want the voting age raised to 21. I'll take 19, but 18 is way too low, given the immaturity of today's youth.
I agree with almost everything Savage says. The media has helped destroy the moral fiber of the U.S. Actually, it is the parents--babyboomers--who started the big decline in values. And when the babyboomers started to control entertainment, ta-da, the beginning of the end of a half-way civilized society. At least 80 percent of what you see on cable TV is filth and/or garbage.
(Think "The Real Housewives of Orange County", "Nip and Tuck", etc., etc., etc.)
First, it was "Tune in, turn on and drop out". Then the reproduction and child worshipping, which is basically a form of narcissism. Let's not leave out the commerical day-care centers, which produced sociopathic automatons. Throw in online addiction of the boomer's brats during adolescence, and you can figure out why the U.S. is in trouble. Worst U.S. generation: babyboomers. Second worst: Their children, who will become the worst when they eventually throw their parents into nursing homes and visit not once.
I have just made a strong argument for amnesty for illegals. They have strong family values. Our President was raised by Mexican nannies, hence his love of Mexicans. He is who he is.
bbotcs: you are correct, however the watch is far deeper and the symbol of total enslavement by the elite over the populace.
The musical chords of Hegel has torn at the sheople's heart strings so that they run, run, run, from Dubaya into the chains of The Prestidigitator and his puppet masters.

McCain "came out of no-where"....McCain is the "Manchurian Candidate" (not my term for him....but from the late William Cooper.)...
.... Cooper was murdered by a SWAT team less than a month after 9/11. "Google him" to find out more info about the incredible American patriot William Cooper.
Of course the Orwellian strings are being pulled here! WAR WAR and more WAR seem to be in the cards. Who historically benefits from WAR??? What did the old Nazi's of Germany do to build their machine?
Fear for another "false flag" attack like 9/11......that will give the power hungry fascists more fuel for their agenda.
I truly fear that McCain is not a stable man......William Cooper was "dead-on" about 9/11 (he had meticulous deep research) before he was summararily murdered right after 9/11.
The "out of nowhere" emergence of McCain here...(that New Hampshire primary was mind bogglingly Orwellian...I think Ron Paul was robbed!! What a coup that was by the darkside and the mainstream propaganda forces!)....
.... really has me thinking hard of recent about Cooper's long, long ago warnings about McCain being THE "Manchurian Candidate". It would be really nice to be able to dismiss Cooper "as a nutcase".....but his forebodings seem to be playing out like a script. What the hell is really going on here????
I don't want an unstable man with his hand on the "nuclear button" in the White House. I think we may be (??) hearing more from "alternative sources" about John McCain's stay at the Hanoi Hilton as a young man.
God Bless the Republic....
...we really need it!
WAR, WAR....and more WAR....

Recipe to avoid recession.
1. Create some new govt programs
2. Raise taxes
3. Increase govt control over private companies
4. slowly but surely do away with individualism
and most importantly.
If after brainwashing the masses into accepting this recipe through gov't controlled "education" and "socialist indoctrinating news" you still can't convince an adequate number to go along - - - - -
Just import socialists that will accept it from around the world.

Ghosn Says US Auto Market in Recession
Ghosn Says US Auto Market in Recession

Nissan's Ghosn Says US Auto Market in Recession, Companies Face Higher Costs, Tough Times
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) -- The head of Nissan Motor Co. said even if the United States is not in recession, its auto industry is.
"We are very lucid on the situation of the industry that there is a recession in the United States, at least in the car market," Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn told reporters, saying automakers face rising costs for iron ore, precious metals, aluminum and other materials.
"These represent risk for the industry," he said.
Ghosn, who is also president and CEO of Renault SA of France, expressed optimism that the market will improve.
The American auto market "will not stay in recession for a long time," he said.
U.S. car and light truck sales totaled 16.1 million vehicles in 2007, the worst year in a decade, and sales are expected to slip this year as well.
Ghosn said the cost of raw materials, increasing for the fourth straight year, must come down.
Earlier, Ghosn told students at Seoul's Korea University that global automakers need to focus on emerging markets. During a visit to South Korea to meet local Nissan and Renault officials, Ghosn said growth in countries such as Russia, China, India and Brazil will be key.
"No car manufacturer can ignore these markets," Ghosn said.
Ghosn said the U.S. and Japanese markets have been stagnant for the past four years and prospects for this year are not good.
The Russian market, meanwhile, expanded 25 percent last year, he said, with China just below that, and India and Brazil also growing strongly.
Renault signed an agreement in December to become a 25 percent shareholder and strategic partner with Russian automaker Avtovaz.
Ghosn said that Russia will surpass Germany in the next two years as Europe's largest auto market.
"Nobody can ignore Russia," he said.

I have heard over and over on talk radio that George Soros is backing Obama. That makes me cringe.
Anyone every listen to Mark Levine. He is great. On Wednesday night's show, he played Ray Charles' "America the Beautiful", all the way through--for us. And, best of all, he said--very quickly--at the end of the show that Keith Obermann is "hung like a tick". I LOVE MARK LEVINE! He is the best.
RALPH IS BACK! YEE-HAW!!! Ralph Nader will appear on "Meet the Press" on Sunday, presumably to announce his candidacy for President. You have my vote, Ralph! Finally, there is hope.

Stop saying "Bush". Bush is the PR man. He is a joke. Cheney has been the de facto president for 7 years. You are smart enough to know this.

This republic we live in. Too bad the idiot masses that make up the electorate are hell bent on ushering in european style socialism and politicians and the rest of the elite will embark on any means necesaary to achieve it.
Good day
More proof that the U.S. does not know what it is doing in that part of the world, should stay out of the Arabian peninsula, and tend to business at home.
The sooner the world runs out of oil, the better, if you ask me. So don't ask!
Way to go GWB. Nice job! We spend a trillion $$$ and 3000 + lives and countless injuries so that Russia can get back in the game and make some nice oil dollars.
Going to have to vote for McCain to keep the ball rolling!
Russia agreed on Monday to write off $12 billion of Iraq's debt and restructure another $900 million in a landmark deal that could clear the way for Russian oil companies to invest in the war-torn country.
Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin and visiting Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshiyar Zebari signed the deal in Moscow, and afterward talked up the prospects for Russian investment in the country.
Kudrin said Russian companies could invest as much as $4 billion in Iraq and that LUKoil, Russia's largest independent oil producer, was preparing to return to the country."

I think that Congress should be focussing on the decades long drug dealings by The CIA rather than worrying about athletes doing HGH which was quite legal and sold in health foods store not that long ago.
I think John McCain should have Barrack as his VP candidate...he is already an independent/centrist...could temper the dude from illinois populist rhetoric...forget the conservative right which he doesn't have anyway, keep the anti-hilary votes and pick up a ton of votes on the democratic center....
then we can get a government of the center that actually accomplishes someting on health care, social security reform, finishes up in Iraq and continues to fight in Afghanistan, works on class divisions in the US etc.....
I love happy hour....

O.K. all you damn socialists.
Can you not see where we are headed?
It is a dark and ugly road. That is the road to serfdom!
Hillary is the centrist? Baraq is Reaganesque? Mccain is a conservative? You are being lied to at every turn and when this republic ends up being a failed experiment just remember how you wanted more gov't. You get what you deserve! Brainwashed masses taught by gov't schools and socialist news agency's to suck at the gov't teet and encourage gov't growth and takeover of private endeavors. Then when the govt infrignement causes problems demand more govt infringement!
Good day!
Mitt: In other words, "He who runs away, lives to fight another day". Next time, go to a tanning spa. You will look healthier.
Good news for Dems: You might have 2 Democrats from which to choose in the general election--McCain and either Obama or Clinton.
MSGI:
Perhaps the economists hired by the banks have advised their clients that they see hyperinflation later this year. If I were a bank, I wouldn't write a fixed rate mortgage right now.
You write a 6 1/2 percent, 7 year fixed rate mortgage now, and you are going to cry the blues when the prime rate is 10 percent next year. C'mon MSGI. Think late 1970's. You could get a fix-rate mortgage at the bargain rate of 18 percent. Bernanke is nostalgic for those years.
Inflation (except real estate) is going to rise fast. Unless something is done about population growth and crops for ethanol production, food prices will go out of sight soon.
You throw in a big drought in the U.S., and you are there overnight.
By the way, were you aware that something like 22 nuke plants in Dixie could be shut down this year because of low water levels? That could cause a regional DEPRESSION. That would be cute. Living in an economically depressed area in times of inflation.
There are so many scary things out there, it might be safer living in the Amazon jungle.
Is this another case of the banks being greedy?

The Fed is practically giving away money and the banks and lending institutions are raising rates. What a fu*ked up system.
Edwards and Guiliani--gone. Edwards would make a very good VP pick for Barack because he might draw the white Democratic vote in the South.
Hucksterbee is still messing this up for Romney. He is blatantly running for VP on McCain's ticket.
Cannot wait to listen to Rush Limbaugh today. He should do a real rant against McCain, if he hasn't had a stroke by now.
This race just keeps getting better and better.
I am officially in the Romney camp now. Ron Paul just cannot make it. He is my ideal candidate. I love Ron Paul. I will put a Ron Paul sign on my lawn. But his campaign is hopeless.
If Romney picked him as his VP candidate, I'd be in raptured.
This is my dream.
This is a VERY bad thought, but something you should think about if you are heavily invested.
The Democratic primary turns into a race war. Barack is assassinated. This is not a crazy thought, imo, because the U.S. has more nuts per capita than any country on earth.
Allowing all of those onlookers around candidates with digital cameras is risky business, imo. It should be stopped immediately.
If Obama were assassinated, it would be 1968 all over again. Only you would not have the National Guard to stop the riots.
When you are heavily invested, you should always come up with the sickest scenario and think about it. God forbid that this would happen. But after 9/11 and Katrina, anything can happen in this country and usually does.
People would blame Bush, saying Obama's Secret Service protection was insufficient. IMO Barack should have double the protection of other candidates. Protecting him has to be the most stressful job in the Secret Service, outside of protecting the President.
MSGI: More evidence that Kathleen Sibelius, Gov. of Kansas, is O'Bama's mama. She has just come out and endorsed him.
Things are looking very bad for Billary.
MSGI: Are you kidding? I am white but I live in a Congressional district that is maybe 70 percent black. That is why I will vote for Hillary in the Maryland primary. (ROFLM*O). JUST KIDDING, FOLKS.
In the 2006 elections, I got about 20 calls a day on the day before the election and maybe 15 calls on election day. All recorded, of course. Let's see. Bill Clinton called me twice. My Congressman called me about 6 times. And Spike Lee called me one time. Then there was the teachers' union several time (those were live calls--they have the $$ to use real people).
This year, I will be VERY disappointed if I don't get a call from Bill telling me NOT TO VOTE for Obama, from Oprah telling me TO VOTE for him, from Al, Jesse, and maybe some Hollywood scum. (Where is Barack's white mama? Is she alive? Have you seen her? She's from Kansas, I think? Is her name Dorothy? Is she related to Len? Who is she? Is she the Governor who did the Democratic rebuttal to the State of the Onion address?)
Is she George Soros' mistress? Does George Soros even have a mistress. Would any woman in the world except Madeline Albright sleep with George Soros? (Not to imply that she has slept with him or with ANY man.)
Why doesn't the press report on these things? It is a vast, left-wing conspiracy. Where is Gordon Liddy when we need him?
bbotcs
Be glad that you don't live in Florida. I had about 10 to 12 calls yesterday that were recordings soliciting my vote. Have had another call this morning.
