Enhancement to ponder...
I could use an "action" that adds the stock alert to a symbol list. I would then use that list to exclude the stock from popping up again. The result would be to only investigate (or autotrade) a stock once a day.
I am currently manually excluding stocks via a list.
Trade Ideas Backtest Help
I'm trying to put into trade ideas what happened to stock symbol "ES" on Friday, 2/19/10. There was some news with regards to management change and the stock dropped over 25% at one point, but then pulled up to a loss of 18%. I saw some heavy block trades going on and I bought it on the dip and sold it on the rise for a nice 5% gain within an hour.
I'm trying to get trade ideas 'formula' to find stocks exactly like that; Between 4 and 15 dollars, have block trades of over 100,000 shares, strong volume filter of 3, minimum current volume of 1, heavy upside down check mark, and finally a drop below the 50 day simple moving avg or a stock price moving below the support.
Any help on this?
Thanks in advanced
Pete

new question.
notice that the minup5 = 0.10
the history shows some that were .03, .04, .09. how to I prevent all that are < 0.10 from occurring?

Oddsmaker results
Hi,
Have been with TI for a few yrs now...EVERY-day at 8:30 east coast time, the results for todays trading day comes in..Nothing has come in today? ANy idea why?
Hi. Welcome. If you just signed up you should receive an email from our Director of Trader Education, Jamie Hodge, scheduling a training session with you - as we do with all our new subscribers. But let's answer your question here in the forum as you should get familiar with the tools and make the most of your hour training session with Jamie.
Feel free to copy and paste your configuration here and we can see what can be changed so you get exactly what you want. You can do this by right-clicking and selecting 'Collaborate' in TI PRO.

Hi, I am new to Trade-Ideas Alerts and just installed the product. I have used the free web based tool but know I am getting different results and don't know why. I do not want to see stocks that are down but they keep appearing. I cannot see anything in my configuration that should trigger down stocks to appear. Is there somebody I can speak with for help? Thanks.
hi,
thx. I am interested in collocation and sent an email 2 days ago to david.
I use sterling / cyborg
Make sure to read the Help for the Count filter: http://www.trade-ideas.com/Help.html#WSF_MinCount
The Count is the number of times TI reports the alert, regardless of when you start the strategy and regardless of the filters you add.
We don't have a method of limiting the number of times you want to see stock A, stock B, stock C, stock Z, etc.
You could filter out a stock symbol with an exclude symbol list. You could also filter out the frequency of its appearance by making the requirements (filters or alert specific filters) a higher threshold.
In follow up, I am not using any ALERTS in my querry...Only filters...Could that be why? How can we cap this?
THANKS for the quick reply.
I put in a value of 2 as the Max count, and then i get back zero results... WHy would that be? I am trying to make sure i dont get the same stock more then twice a day in the same querry...Other stock symbols should continue to come in the querry...just not more then once.
Am i doing something wrong?
Let's take a look at RIG:
I pulled up the alerts, and they looked just like they should. Lots of new highs around the time you said. It's possible there's a mistake in your settings - hard to tell from your post.
These are the settings I used.
http://www.trade-ideas.com/View.php?O=8000000000000000000000001_1D_0&WN=My+Alerts&SL=xRIG
If you are unable to resolve why you couldn't see particular alerts, I recommend a one on one training session. See Jamie at jhodge@trade-ideas.com if interested.
Let's look at NRG.cat: I looked it up. It doesn't trade much. There are quite a few times of day when it goes way longer than 5 minutes without trading.
Here's what our servers saw in NRG.cat on a 30 minute timeframe: http://www.trade-ideas.com/StockInfo/_StocksLikeThis.html?symbol=NRG.CAT&start_date=1266480000&start_hours=9&start_minutes=30&time=30
In the future you can also use this useful tool to see how and what we're reporting on a stock before the filters you set discriminate or allow stocks to enter your universe.
capping the number of alerts for a stock - that we can do. Put a value like 200 in the MAX Count filter and you won't see the 201st alert associated with the same stock. http://www.trade-ideas.com/Help.html#WSF_MinCount
That's true and as you can tell I'm using a proxy of a running down alert to find the same stocks. It might need some more tweaking but it's a start. Hopefully it points you in a good direction.
Is there a way to limit the number of times a stock comes up in a querry?
Example, I have a querry set and at 8:40 symbol fas comes in...Then at 8:45am fas comes in again....at 8:50 am, fas comes in again....Is there a way i can prevent this from coming in a third time? (i want to see it in 5 min intervals (exactly as happening)..I just dont want to see it more then two times for that querry per day?
THANKS TI!
THanks appreciate it.,.But the below scan you gave gives all stocks between rsi of 39 and 80 in 15 min timeframe....Doesnt mean they actually slid down or up by X amount of RSI...The big fall or rise in the rsi (the major change) is what I am looking to capture.
Hi alexa. There are quite a few issues related to speed. Here's the short version.
First of all, ping time doesn't apply to what we're doing. I don't know about any competitors, but all of our stuff is push based. So you can cut that time in half right off the bat.
Second, ping time is an ideal latency time. So many other things can get in the way. TI Pro uses a proprietary data aggregation and compression algorithm to ensure that our data comes to you at the fastest possible speed.
The industry standard seems to be HTTP. We work with a lot of brokers on their trading APIs, and most of them are HTTP. HTTP often requires two round trips for even a simple request. So even if your only looking at ping time, you'd have to double the number you see. So we're already a factor of 4 better than the industry standard. Of course, that's still an ideal number. Those extra HTTP servers will add additional steps that you can't measure with ping. You said you get a 45ms ping time to yahoo. I bet it takes more than 45ms for yahoo's home page to load in your browser! Ping time is not the final answer on speed!
Finally, you need to consider how much time you can spare. Are you doing fully automatic trading? If so, colocation may be an answer. Please let us know who your broker is, and that will help us estimate how fast that part of the connection is. If, like most of our users, you are reading the alerts on the screen, these numbers are too small to worry about. Even if the 90ms time was accurate (and I just explained why it is not) you still couldn't read the new alerts in that time. Look up "human reaction time" on Google. You'd be lucky to turn your head that fast when an alert comes in.
As for your question about why the ping times look the way they do, that can depend on a number of factors, like geography, and wether we use the same ISP. While there may be ways to reduce the ping time slightly, that's seldom the best way to make any real progress. I'd start by finding out if your broker's trading software is the fastest around. There's a huge range of different speeds out there, and these differences are much larger than the ping times you mentioned.
As for your question about getting faster data, that's unlikely. We are built for speed. Even if something else was faster, it couldn't be much faster. There just isn't much time wasted here.
If you can't be satisfied with this response you have to try the others for yourself.
I conducted my own little experiment with the following string:
http://www.trade-ideas.com/View.php?O=2_9_0&QNLP=30&MaxPrice=100&MaxSpread=10&MinPrice=1&WN=Buying+30+Day+Low+Max+Spread+.10
It contains a Max Spread of .10 , if you'd like to run the odds and see, just duplicate this one and modify the spread accordingly.
Here are the results:

I'll the request for the shorter RSI timeframe as well.
As for your first request.
You're looking for stocks moving from an RSI value of 80 to 40 within a half hour.
Try a scan like this: http://www.trade-ideas.com/View.php?O=40000000000000000000000_1d_0&QRDI=2&MinPrice=5&MaxDNbbo=.15&MinVol=300000&MaxUp5=-3&MinRSI15=39&MaxRSI15=81&WN=RSI+Slide+30+minutes
Good luck. Let me know if that helps
Dear alexa,
I've gathered all your posts and the examples you site. We'll examine each one and get a response to you - including this last post below. Thanks for your patience while we investigate your settings and the data.
We track and filter on the number of shares traded - not trades. Although we do have an unusual print alert that might fit a derivative of what you are describing: http://www.trade-ideas.com/Help.html#UNOP
As for capping the number of alerts for a stock - that we can do. Put a value like 200 in the MAX Count filter and you won't see the 201st alert associated with the same stock. http://www.trade-ideas.com/Help.html#WSF_MinCount
ODDSMAKER ISSUES
Hi,
Check this out with any strategy...
If you put max spread at 5 pennies, and run the oddsmaker you get back X results...However when you put max spread at 10 pennies, run the oddsmaker (dont chnage anything else but the max spread), you get back less results.
WHY? If you are increasing your parameters/criteria, shouldnt you get back the same or more results, not less?
Hi can you please post the strategy you were using to find stocks like RIG. It will help us diagnose any issues. THanks
technical issue
I find this very interesting but need you to fully explain whats happening....
I just pinged trade-ideas 4 different times
avg ping was 90+ms
then i pinged yahoo.com avg ping was 45ms
then i pinged a competitor of trade-ideas 4 times and the response was 30+ms every time.
so this leads me to believe that if I were using the competitor I'd be receiving alerts faster as well...correct?
guys what are you doing? since this is your business why are the times so slow?
Filter Request.
Hi,
I know you get tons of these, but thought I would give it a try and maybe I would luck out, and get one of my fiters made :)
I am looking for an rsi filter that is capturing the rsi ...However I am not looking at what the actual rsi is,..but in other words...I am trying to capture when a stock has a major rsi change...Example stock at 10am has RSI at 80, and now at 10:30 am RSI is at 40 (this would be derived by using/recomputing rsi every 1 min)...
Also, I saw a few days ago, another TI user request a one or two min rsi filter...I definatley second that one!!!
Any ideas?
Thanks!
this goes w/#1642
I just tried another alert...
NRG.cat
as stated it didnt show up on the running down now
but shows up on the running down(intermediate) stating it fell 0.15 in 4mins
guys;
1. the biggest problem with these running down and running down 9intermediate) is that it cant be filted with a $ amount.
I dont want to use this one because I see others running down intermed that fell 0.02 and I want only >0.10
how can this be fixed????
this still doesnt answer what happened to tnp.cat tho.
and explain this one.
different alert
http://www.trade-ideas.com/View.php?O=20000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000_40_0&QRUN=0.46&MaxPrice=80&WN=parabolic25_29_48
clt.cat comes off a halt ...gaps open and then runs $0.85 all in 1 min.
no alert.
whats going on guys.
Does TI have a filter for a minimum number of trades rather than just number of shares traded?
If it does not. Could someone let me know if this is a possible feature to include and approximately how long it would take to implement?
One could use a form of statistical analysis for each individual stock to project the number of trades will be made if the scan is run intraday (which is mainly what I'm after).
I was also wondering if one could get TI to stop displaying alerts for an individual stock that has reached a certain number of alerts. For instance, if my alert has come up for the 200th time for a particular stock, I would like TI to no longer display any future alerts of that particular stock.
Thanks!
and yet another one...
15:20pm feb18.
Im running 2 different trade-ideas on 2 computers...green lights so I no things are working.
NRG.cat falls 0.11 in 1 min. I again get no alert
im a new day low.
the only reason I know im missing these is that I get the alert from a %down one.
my alert is simple:
running down now. 0.10
min$ 1.01
max $
and again 1 uses the position in range as max5, the other doesnt use it...both failed to receive the alert on nrg.
another one....
look at #1639
now TNP.cat 15:15pm runs 0.12 on 10k shrs. in 1 minute
day high. I get no alert, with and w/out the daily range filter.
this is really starting to piss me off.
I really need an answer why these are being missed
Alexa, Your problem was precisely why I posted the following inquiry yesterday, it seems basic data is missed but I haven't gotten a response:
"Hi TI Support, could you please do a historical search of unfiltered New Highs of RIG from 3pm-3:30pm EST today, 2/17. It seems your market data source may not be triggering hi tick filters. Thanks"
why why why....
please explain why some symbols / alerts are missed they they so obviously meet the alert criteria.
12:20pm feb18 tot.cat falls from 9.33 to 8.82 on 26k vol
i got nothing.
why
http://www.trade-ideas.com/View.php?O=40000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000_40_0&QRDN=0.1&MaxPrice=16&MaxRD=5&MinPrice=1.01&WN=dumper_under8++9-19-12+w%2frange5
now before you tell me the answer is because I have "position in range" checked off....im also running on another computer the same alerts but w/out the pos in range and also got no alert.
why why why
is the move too fast for the latency?
Hey guys, general question; I currently use level 2 on investor hub but im not liking some of the features and lack of settings i can change... Anyone have a very good level 2 software provider thats not to expensive and maybe even comes with a trial period so i can see if i'd like it?>
Thanks
Rob
Noted. Will do. Thank you!
Cyborg's a great partner. That's good news! Please send an email to david@trade-ideas.com and brad@trade-ideas.com so we can reply about your collocation desires and custom architecture proposal.
yes lets talk colocation as im trying to do automated trading with cyborg.
Hi TI Support, could you please do a historical search of unfiltered New Highs of RIG from 3pm-3:30pm EST today, 2/17. It seems your market data source may not be triggering hi tick filters. Thanks
Running Up/Down Alert
Is there anyway to configure this alert to show % moves instead of $ moves? I'm looking for the quick 1 minute burst of activity upwards or downwards, but I'm having a slight problem getting the lower priced stocks to show up that get the same moves.
I was just accepted as a board moderator, but have no information as to what i should do. What are the protocol and rules - where do I find them? Thank you.
Thanks for checking into this for me. I have been thinking that the MIN should be greater than zero. Maybe you can have someone update the "canned" options strategies to make the minimum something like 0.00001, so that future users will know that zero is not a good value.
Excellent product by the way!
Hi. I'm pretty sure we ignore this value, having tried modeling it just now. The reason? Remember its a ratio of number of puts to calls (if negative its the ratio of calls to puts).
So an integer like 2 means there are twice as many puts as calls in your universe of stocks.
There's never a meaningful case when that value is zero.
http://www.trade-ideas.com/View.php?O=8000000000000000000000000_1d_0&MinPCR=0&WN=My+Alerts
Hi. We don't want you to waste any money that you don't have to!
You're confusing latency with bandwidth. latency vs bandwidth - Google Search (http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=latency+vs+bandwidth&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8)
Because of our server side (i.e. "cloud" or "thin client") architecture, you are insulated from most of the bandwidth issues. Bringing high bandwidth into your computer may be required for hulu, but you don't need it for our software. In fact, I travel a lot, and TI Pro gives me surprisingly good results even when I use my cell phone as a modem!
We also make the most of a network, regardless of the latency. TI Pro uses a push architecture to make sure the alerts get to you as quickly as possible, minimizing the effects of the latency in your network. When people say "cloud" they often mean HTTP, which would be far slower than what we offer.
As for the times that you are reporting, that's more than sufficient for any trading that is partially manual. If you're looking at a stock that we recommend, maybe pulling up a stock chart or a level 2, that time will be too small to notice. If you're working on arbitrage between two ECN's, lets us know and we'll talk colocation with you.
Thank you for the kind words!
I'm not sure why you were prevented from logging into the forum.
We strike a balance with what we offer as alerts and the ability to customize them further. But your request for a shorter RSI period is valid and I will log it in our development queue where it will get prioritized.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Put/Call Ratio of ZERO...
Does this mean there are NO puts, there are NO calls, or both?
regarding mess#1614.
this is somewhat of a dumb question but currently my alerts come in just over 40ms and my cable downloads at 10 mbps.
If I were to upgrade cable service to 25 or 50 mbps do you think I'd receive sub40ms alerts?
thx
Check your Mailbox.
Hi,
My post has been deleted from here...And now I cant log in to this support forum... (It says my account has abused the posting rules...) SO I had to make a whole new acct...Not sure why I had to do this?
My orginal and ONLY post ever on here, was simply a filter request...Anyways...
So here it goes again....
I am looking for an rsi filter. I see you already have one, but it computes the rsi every 15 mins. I am looking for an rsi filter that computes the rsi every 1 or 2 mins...
An entire cylce can happen in 15 mins, thus, a buy opportunity could be missed. Since you guys already have the rsi set up/data coming in for it, was wondering how hard it would be to do the exact same computations, just on a 1 or 2 min timeframe instead.
THanks! As mentioned my goal was not to offend or cause any issues...I will check out elitetrader...Thanks for the feedback.

Our philosophy is that real-time alert scanning and event-based backtesting tools (vs. single stock backtesting tools - I'm lookin' at you TradeStation, WealthLab Pro) are the new frontier of advanced trading tools. Market evolution has forced the need to have these tools to level the playing field.
There are different ways to access real-time alerts. Some come bundled in direct access platforms like Cyber, RealTick, Redi Plus..etc. There are also stand alone products like Insight-Trading, First Alert, Tradeprofile, and of course Trade-Ideas.
We encourage anyone interested to take a look at the different products and tell others what you think.
