I've been to Scotlland more than a dozen times, mostly taking distributors to visiting the distilleries like Strathisla,Glen Grant,Glenlivet,J&B,Longmorn(that's anither GREAT malt!!).
If WAMU hit's Diamond's predictions,We'll be able to but all of Last Drops production!!!
I never been to Scotland but I will one day for sure. Islay has some grat stuff IMO: Lagavulin, Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore. I´d like to taste a "Port Ellen" some day (Distillery closed since 1983).
I love that"flint" bottle too!!!
A warm welcome to the board DudeBug
Welcome Michael, actually I have Strathisla in my collection right now. I like it. Here in Germany you can find it in several online shops or eBay.
Strathisla 12 Bottling Note
"A creamy, thick 12 year old single malt from the Speyside distillery, Strathisla.
Strathisla 12 Tasting Note
The nice is rich and of good body. Some notes of wood oils and resins, rubbed petals, winter spice and cereal sweetness. There are notes of marmalade and hints of bourbon with a thick creaminess. The palate is thick and full. There are notes of thick cream and honeyed raisins. Sultana notes emerge with a little Madeira and mixed peels. The oak develops into the finish, which is fruity and spirity."
The Master of Malt
Hey all just wanted to say as a fellow scotch drinker, what a great idea for a board!!! Board marked
I would probably agree with the 8-10 year statement for most Scotch. However, that 25 year-old Bowmore goes down like butter. Unfortunately, it runs about $250 a bottle, but some things are worth the price. I have a bottle set aside for when WAMU hits.
And only 150,335 posts to catch up in volume with the WAMUQ board!!!!!
Craggenmore is awesome,as is Craggelachkie(impossible to find!!!)......Most Scots in the know will tell you that 8 to 10 years is the optimal ageing for scotch.........anything older than that is pure marketing, but I still love the 12+ Macallans and Glenlivets........My all-time favourite was a "mini-Chivas"we made years ago, sorely missed(out of production)was a "100 Pipers" 8 years old!!!!I used to take it home for my own stash in 3.75 liter jugs!!!!!
My husband worked in the Eng/Construction business for years building large refineries. A couple of years ago, one of his vendors in Kuwait gave him some fine "bootlegged" cigars!!
So, yes, he sips his Chivas and occassionally smokes a cigar with it!! I'm not prone to regularly smoke one but will take a few puffs off of it!!
Hey .. I'm a Texas gal originally from La. ... we can pretty much hold our own!! :)
I gotta run!! Thanks guys!!
PS .. BigH .. what great memories you can always cherish!
My Mom didn't partake of the whiskey but sure was a pistol that left people talking!! :)
WOW!!!Beautiful bottle too!!!!Gonna have to wait till Diamond's 2 X plus tho'!!!Coming soon,we all hope!!!!
Great idea for a board. I too am an Islay guy - nothing beats a 25 year-old Bowmore. I am fortunate to travel to Scotland annually, and have found wonderful single malts all over. While Islay single malts are my favorite, Speyside scotches are a close second. a double-mature Craggenmore fits the bill nicely from that region. While I'm not a huge Highland fan, Edradour (if you can find it) is a nice little every day 10 year-old Highland.
mike, this stuff is a real bargain compared to "the last drop".....
i may have to buy myself a case of it, when "GOT PARLAY?" kicks in !!!
http://www.wineglobe.com/jw-george.html
charlien, shes past, but you have her accurately portrayed !!!
and i'm glad to see you and your better half enjoy a snort together now and then.
now, if only you could acclimate to the fine ceegars.... wow !!!!
Oh how boring the Whisky Bar would be without female participation....It's up to Kris(it's his idea and board),but I suggest you buy a bottle of Chivas(a good starting point),mix it just with an equal part of good cold mineral water(still, not sparking)and restart your enjoyment of a centuries old tradition.
I'm actually polishing off a 12 year old Jameson Irish before I go to bed!!!
That's nice ... glad your Mom enjoyed herself! That's what it's all about!
Husband still drinks Chivas and I've even thought lately I'd start drinking "light" ones again. I really like the smell and taste of Scotch!
Your Mom sounds like a fine woman!!
Charlien
aka DudeBug
nice job dude.... you emulated my mom, in early yrs. she did the same for my dad !!!! acquired the taste.
such fond memories for me of them having a drink, before going out to dinner, and admonishing all of us to behave, LOL
my mom liked "the glenlivet" up to her last days.
niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice michael... niiiiiiiiiiiiceeeeeee
http://bostonist.com/2009/05/27/the_last_drop_scotch_whisky.php
2 G's per bottle. gotta savor, not swig that, LOL
better not give wamuvoodoo any !!!!! LMAOFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
Hey ... is okay for the gals to visit the Whiskey Bar?? :)
I have this vision of you guys sipping your whiskeys, smoking cigars and talking BK stocks!! :)
When I was VERY young (several decades back) and dating my husband, Chivas was all he drank and always seemed to be what was available so I developed a taste for Scotch when I was 20 y/o. That was my drink for many years!! My preference was always Chivas or Pinch (I actually liked it better than Chivas)!!
Now I'm a lightweight and usually only drink wine, margaritas, or Frangelica!!
Great site, Kris!! You guys enjoy your Whiskey Lounge(makes me think of a Willie song)!!
Oh.....and look up"The Last Drop"distillery........world's most expensive whisky........If you want a bottle(after casing in on WAMU!!),I can get it for you!!!!
I'm more of a Highland guy..........Glenlivet,Glenmorangie(out of fashion for some reason!!)and The Macallan...............When I was growing up,good scotch was a social perrogative......my Dad insisted on JW Black Label,my older brother a Dewar's guy,so I chose Chivas, and went on to work for them..............my favourite, which I can't find anymore is Strathisla, the malt at the heart of Chivas.
Brilliant idea for starting this board Kris!!!!
More to come, also with tasting notes of my favorites. I love the single malts from Islay.
nice job on the i-box by the way. not too often you see a fledgling board with so much info !!!!
GOT PARLAY??
Thanks Hammer, I was surprised nobody came up with that idea until now!
GO Parlay players!!!
dewars black label.... realllllllllllllllllllllllllly close second to johnny w.
ughhhh... walker that is, LMAOFFFFFFFFFFFF
howdy kristall!!! nice board, nice idea.
cannot beat johnny walker black, for excellent scotch for the money. exceeds chivas, i believe, and pinch, and ballantines of similar aging.
with scotch, you gotta go apples to apples, as far as vintage goes. and no comparing single malts to blends !!!
GOT PARLAY ???
I'LL TAKE THE FIRST BOARDMARK !!!!!
Hi all Whisk(e)y lovers! here you can post your favorites. Let me know what you like to drink. I hope you´ll enjoy the board, Cheers !
