Wisconsin by 20+ IMO. I think they have around 14 returning starters.
"A football attendance record crowd of 113,090 were able to enjoy a relatively relaxing day at the new-look Big House."
Cool that they set a new high for fannies in the seats If Robinson can continue playing near this level, your boys could surprise some people.
Sep. 4, 2010
CBSSports.com wire reports ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Denard Robinson accounted for 383 yards and two touchdowns in his first game as Michigan's starting quarterback, leading the Wolverines to a 30-10 win over Connecticut on Saturday at the bigger than ever Big House.
Robinson ran for 197 yards - setting a school record for a QB -- and a TD. He was 19 of 22 for 186 yards and a score.
The Wolverines and embattled coach Rich Rodriguez desperately needed a victory to start his third season in Ann Arbor. Michigan lost 16 games in his first two seasons with college football's winningest team and violated major NCAA rules for the first time in program history.
The opener could not have gone much better as the Wolverines dominated an experienced UConn team considered a contender in the Big East.
The Huskies trailed by 21 early and had a chance to pull within a TD late in the third quarter, but USC transfer D.J. Shoemate fumbled at the Michigan 3 and the Wolverines were never threatened again.
A football attendance record crowd of 113,090 were able to enjoy a relatively relaxing day at the new-look Big House.
The previous mark was 112,118 -- also at Michigan Stadium -- in 2003, the last time the Wolverines beat rival Ohio State.
A video tribute -- with Keith Jackson's booming voice piped in -- ribbon-cutting ceremony and a miraculous walk by Brock Mealer, whose brother is a Michigan offensive lineman, got the crowd fired up before kickoff.
Doctors had told Mealer he wouldn't be able to walk again after he and his brother were involved in a car accident on Christmas Eve in 2007 that killed their father and Elliott Mealer's girlfriend.
Steadying himself with crutches, Brock Mealer slowly made his way onto the field with his brother at his side and even stopped to grab the big Go Blue banner the team runs under as they enter the field.
When the game began, the Wolverines didn't let their fans down.
Michigan's defense, which was a huge problem last season, forced the Huskies to go three-and-out on the opening drive.
Robinson beat out last year's starter, Tate Forcier, and highly touted freshman Devin Gardner, for the right to take the first snap and quickly showed why.
The player known as "Shoelace" because he doesn't lace up his cleats displayed his blazing speed then proved he could throw, too, after failing to instill faith in his arm last year as a freshman. He threw sharp passes in the flat, over the middle and deep downfield and displayed an ability to pump fake one way and throw another.
Robinson ran the ball 29 times - usually by design - and broke Steve Smith's QB rushing record of 147 yards, set in 1983 at Minnesota.
Vincent Smith, coming off knee surgery, scored his first of two touchdowns on a 12-yard run on the opening possession and on an 11-yard pass early in the fourth to make it 30-10.
Robinson had a 32-yard TD run late in the first quarter and handed off to Michael Shaw for a scoring run early in the second that put the Wolverines ahead 21-0.
UConn bounced back with a field goal and Jordan Todman's TD run to pull within 21-10 at halftime.
Brendan Gibbons made his first field goal to give the Wolverines a 14-point cushion midway through the third.
Michigan's defense - which also blocked a field goal - forced Shoemate to fumble late in the quarter in one of the pivotal plays of the game.
Notre Dame transfer Zach Frazer was 18 of 37 for 205 yards. Todman ran for 105 yards.
lol...just a little dig
Bite your tongue CLASKO!!!!!
Gosh dang......nothing like college football!!!! I have to wait till Monday night before my team gets into action!
I'm on cloud 9 ski. Tomorrow we start to prepare for Notre Dame and I see a real battle next week. Also looking forward to the OSU vs Miami matchup.
You must be a happy camper tonight CLASKO! 30-10, nice way to start the season!
You Big-10 gents are much more familiar with Wisconson than I am, but I know they are very good. Much more than 3 TD's better than UNLV on a neutral field.
UNLV has a new coach and is short on talent. But there is one wildcard in tonights game. It is hotter than a frying pan here in Vegas. We hit 110 degrees today, and it is still 104 at the moment. The game still does not start for another hour, but it is still going to be 96-100 at kickoff I would guess.
It will be interesting to see how some of them big Whisky lineman adjust.
Thanks Patrick! We have been shaking our heads for a couple of years and hopefully things are turning around. Robinson looks like a stud!

Congrats on your Wolverines looking better clasko. College football is better as a whole when Michigan is good. To much pride and tradition in that program to continue to stay down.
Just happy we are at home for that one.
And OSU vs Miami will be a good one as well.
I watched most of the game and Michigan played pretty well I thought. Next up NotreDame. Should be a good test.
Michigan looked good today but they did the same thing last year. I am waiting to see if they can win more than 1 game in the Big Ten. Cautiously optimistic here. By the way, I thought there was an excellent balance during the Cooper Era.
Cooper was just 2-10-1 against Michigan to go with his 3-8 bowl record.
ONLY a Michigan fan would call that balance.
Wolverines in the drivers seat with just 13 mins to go.
The offense is looking powerful but the defense is still swiss cheese. I hope they improve each week. Rich Rod: I'm still 50/50 on him and would vote for Harbaugh if I could be heard. I am also hearing that John Cooper may return to OSU in an attempt to bring balance back to a certain rivalry ;)
I am guessing my Ducks won't be left out if the top-10 for very much longer. 59-0 at halftime, quack.
M up 20 to zip on UCONN with 9 mins to go in the 2nd. Very impressive.
Extention contract for Rich Rod? jk Clasko!
Arizona Cardinals release QB Matt Leinart. What a bust. Could Hollywood-Hot-Tub-Matt end up in Seattle under Pete Carroll? If Seattle shows no inerest, that will be a damning reference from Leinart's former coach at USC.
From Rotoworld below:
"Max Hall is locked in as Derek Anderson's backup. It will be very interesting to see where Leinart ends up, as apparently no one was even willing to give up a seventh-round pick for the former Heisman Trophy winner. SI's Peter King speculates that Leinart's former college coach, Pete Carroll will show interest in Seattle. No matter what, Leinart will have to be willing to accept a backup role with a smile on his face."
Very nicely produced video. I'm sure all OSU fans will enjoy that. I am still sticking with the program that has more wins in it's history than any other team. Even the one started by nuts ;)
I think U of M vs. UConn has a chance to be the game of the day.
This gave me goosebumps
Michigan will win today.
Morning Bob! I hope your vacation is going well :)
Keep in mind that most of what I REMEMBER about Barry was his latter years in the league. Those years weren't the best. He was complaining a lot more and not really playing like he had in previous years. I know of the legendary player but I never got to truly see him in my memory. I think that's part of the problem.
I love your optimism 12th man. I am looking for some improvement from the Lions this year as well. I can't wait to see the Michigan vs UConn game tomorrow. Rumors swirling about Rich Rod's fate if they lose.
How can you NOT like Barry? The way he QUIT sucks, but I can't say I blame him based on having to deal with Ross as a coach...
Was so embarrassed by USC's performance I might just go watch High School football tonight. Not going to recruit or give money to any high school kids... :) Not even going to buy them a coke! No more free oranges at halftime!
Understand stackhouse and hill, but not Sanders? He carried that team and the crappy ownership. Never complained. He should have left and won a few rings!
Don't say that! I think I am the only Lion's fan that truly never liked Sanders. I put Sanders in the same ballpark with the Lions as I do Jerry Stackhouse and Grant Hill with the Pistons.
Pretty interesting games yesterday! I loved watching USC and HAWAII (???) taking hits back and forth. Unbelievable how horrible both of their defense is... well... believable with Hawaii... but come on... USC? They play against a real school and they'll get destroyed playing like that.
I will be on a reality show on foxsports this season. It is called "Tailgate Wars". I'll let you know when the first episode will be.
USC's D is atrocious. Lane Kiffin is still a cocksucker, but funny.
So Carolina looked decent but still not a SEC champion.
Miami and Ohio State rolled!
Liquor will be flowing freely today gents! Its 24 hours until gameday for me.
No definitely not. Barry is a Lion for life. Besides, we know it's not Barry because of all the fumbles from AD. Barry NEVER fumbled!
Hah, I thought Barry Sanders' spirit was put into Adrian Peterson. ;)
Definitely worried, remember they have 59 scholarship guys on the team, not 75. They couldn't hit in practice or apparently in the game. Hawaii plays a totally different game then anyone else and USC needed the wake up call. Masoli when at oregon ran the same style.
Our defense was suppose to be great with a questionable offense. Oops?
We have a few easy games in UVA and Minnesota to get things right. We lose any of our first five games then I will worry more. Family was at the game. They said it was worse in person.
Kiffin is intense. Won't beat them up too bad. But I know he isn't happy. At least they were able to play a high scoring team. Better than playing a Charleston Southern or LA-Monroe school like the SEC plays.
Barry Sanders did come out of retirement. His spirit has taken over the body of Jahvid Best. Watch and learn!
Your Trojans win, but you have to be concerned about their defense, or should I say, lack of defense.
Hawaii outgained USC in yardage 588 to 524. The Warriors shredded the young Trojan secondary. Kiffin Sr. has to be boucing off the walls.
I would hate to see what some top Pac-10 QB'S like Washingtons Jake Locker will do to USC unless they improve quickly.
Well, so much for the Pitt Panthers being a top 15 team.
I agree with you on the Vikings and Packers, too tough. But I think the Lions are improving, and the Bears are headed in the opposite direction.
I think Jay Cutler leads Chicago to last place in that division this year.
Barry Sanders would have to come out of retirement for the Lions to have a better record than the Vikings and Packers and probabl the Mini Bears (with Ditka, by two).
Saw that rickbeth. It looks like Dennis Dixon gets the nod at least for the opener, and more than likely longer than that.
Still guessing Big Ben only gets his suspension reduced 2 games, and will still miss the first 4.
I think you are probably being a little bit overly optimistic, but at least Lion fans should have a lot more to cheer about this year. They should be fun to watch and be involved in some high scoring games.
I guarantee we're going undefeated at home, I'm figuring we'll split on the road and go 12-4. I'll be brining the noise at Ford Field this season! GO LIONS!
Hey 12thman, you better put that pipe away, it is clouding your judgement. ;)
Actually I do think the Lions will be much better, Stafford could be a top 10-12 QB this year, and 8-8 is not out of the question. That would be a huge improvement and accomplishment to just go .500
Pass the bong! I need one of those hits! You're smoking something REALLY good to say that!
