maybe the amount of players....tourneys usually have full tables....cash tables can have less players limiting the cards out
What kind of tourneys you play. Turbo or ones with 15-20 min blinds? Also check out http://www.internettexasholdem.com. I saw a book on there for tourney players. I can't tell you how it is but "The Poker Mindset" was an excellent read from the same site
Well, can't play worth a crap in the tourneys anymore, but cleaning up again on the cash tables. Going to need to figure out where I am ging wrong in the tourneys and change up that style just a bit, while not screwing with my cash game style.
Any books on the differences between the two?
Never got the cards before they left, but did make a little cash and a lot of points! Got real tempted a couple of times with pocket 8's and 9's, but no way I am calling $25-$30 preflop on a .25/.50 table with those. Did get a nice hit thosgh from the BB. SB raised it to $2 and I called with 34 suited. Flop was 3-3-4, the guy went all in for his last $19 and I called. He had AK! Nice little hit there.
Looks like you found a nice prime rib of a table. Hope you get the cards to teach the others a lesson
At a psycho table today! Fools going all in with a9 os, J80s... for $30+ preflop! Crazy is all I can say. Just playing tight, flosting a little over even and getting tons of Full Tilt points from the rake! Eventually, I should catch one of those fools with a good hand, but my hands have not been worthy of making those calls yet.
Thanks appreciate it will take a look at that organization...
Gordon, the PPA is the Pokers Players Alliance. Has some big guns behind it. In fact, I think there is a link to it on this page. Most of us who actively play have already donated to it.
that would be something worth putting some money in.
This could get interesting...
Monkish
wow interesting do you know when we will get an idea as to what the PPA will decide? thx
One thing that you can bet on, if the PPA is successful in getting online poker back to where it is simple to deposit into your accounts, many poker stocks are going to fly!
Thanks..I came across HDUP today...interesting company. You might want to take a look...Volume starting to pick up and I think we could see a reversal soon. cheers -Gecko
As of right now no but this board welcomes it along with anything else Poker related
thanks...do u guys follow any poker stocks as well?
Playing 2 .50/1.00 tables today and up about $45 so far even with a couple of bad beats. See how the day goes and play as long as it is going well. Already have 60 ft points, so only need another 40 for today's ironman.
Yep, When the cards getting running bad the best thing to do sometimes is lick your wounds and call it a night. Going to jump right back in the fire tonight. Hopefully I can find some of the loose aggressive players and wait for the attack
Welcome GG. I will definately check it out as good 'ole Canada isn't that far away
Those nights happen. I walked away lasat night from FT as soon as I had my 100 pts for the ironman. In fact, earned my last 20 pts not even betting, but just sitting on the cash table. Some nights you just don't have it.
Hey guys, nice board here..anyone heard of the 2008 Canadian Open Poker Championships? Looks like it's going to be one nice event :)

I just keep telling myself that over the "long haul" I will be rewarded. On that note let me tell you one of the best Poker books I have ever read. What makes it so great is that it doesn't deal with what kind of hands to play, odds, etc. It deals with one thing and one thing only... The mind and how to approach the game.

The Poker Mindset: Essential Attitudes for Poker Success
by Ian Taylor and Matthew Hilger
What "secret" separates top poker players from poker wannabes?
Is it zen-like mind-reading skills, a computer-like brain or thousands of hours of play? No. It is a series of established approaches and behaviors that enables these experts to bring their "A" game to the table session after session, regardless of short-term results.
In this groundbreaking book, Taylor and Hilger lay bare the secrets of the Poker Mindset: seven core attitudes and concepts that ensure you have the optimal emotional, psychological, and behavioral framework for playing superior poker.
The Poker Mindset deeply explores vital topics that most poker books only touch upon:
- Tilt: What it really is, why and when you are most prone to it, and how you can avoid it.
- Bankroll: A complete examination of bankroll management from a technical, but more importantly, from a psychological and emotional viewpoint.
- Opponents: How to determine your competitors' mental and emotional processes so that you can dominate, out think and outplay them.
- Downswings: Every poker player experiences them, but you will truly understand and be armed against low ebbs when they occur.
- Bad Beats: The Poker Mindset will enable you to overcome the trauma of bad beats and losing big pots.
Poker is a fun game, but it is even more fun when you win. The Poker Mindset may be the most valuable poker book you will ever read. Embrace its concepts and you can overcome the unseen obstacles that are limiting your success at the table.
When you make the Poker Mindset your mindset, you will take control of your game and walk away a winner.
maybe check your horoscope next time....it dosent sound like it was "in the stars" for ya last night.
Got my Azz handed to me last night on PS. Playing Limit. The last 4 hands I stayed in with where AK, AQ Suited, AK Suited, and to finish it off Pocket Aces. (AK)1st hand got beat when the player in first position paired up his rag on the river after we both hit Aces on the flop. OK, it happens. Next hand (AQ)I flop the Ace once again only to be rivered by an inside straight draw. OK, now I started to get sick. Next hand (AK) I flopped a set of Ks only to get beat by a flush on the river. Finally the hand that sealed it.... (AA) 4 Players, betting Capped preflop. The winner had 10 5 Offsuit. Caught the 10 on the flop and ....
You guessed it... the 5 on the river.
Talk about once SICK session on Pokerstars
I don't see a problem with PS sending you that money. Expect that it will be sent by hard check and will take a few weeks to get. Also I expect it will take a while to clear your bank once deposited. Let me know how it goes.
I have been playing on pokerstars for a long time. I tried to send in money before it became so difficult. My DL did not match my bank account address (just moved) so I was never able to. I won a free roll that paid cash. Now I have cash in my account.
Question...Can I withdraw it or will there be problems trying?
I know, just ranting. I probably wouldn't play on too many other sites. I trust FT and despite the fish complaints otherwise that it is unfair, over time, the cards sure do look like they are falling pretty darn close to the real odds.
Their all like that with the bonus'. Be careful of sites that offer free money (without a deposit)when you join. There is a lot of red tape asnd if you win anything with the free money you end up losing that initial money plus anything you won along with it. Full Tilt is definately one of the better with the bonus'. If you are a decent player it should take you no time to unlock it.
Frickin Full Tilt! After I made last month's bonus, then I find out I need to get Full Tilt points this month to unlonk the bonus! 4000 pts to get my $200! Anyway, got off to a good start yesterday getting almost 200 points and making a little extra cash while playing.
Get an Epassporte Visa and transer there, then transer to FT. You may have to yell at your credit card co, or bank to get it done. Last time I loaded, my credit card co denied it and said EPassporte dealt with gambling sites. I said, well that disturbs me, but I need money in there, so I feel safer buying online! If you download Full Tilt then go to Epassporte, it will explain everything.
Actually had not reloaded forever and get down to $22 a week and a half ago. Almost reloded, but changed my play to be a little more patient in the cash games and already up to $400. Started in .05/.10 and have been working myself bvack up. Will be back to $1/$2 next time I play and will keep the patience and wait to pounce!
how do ya get money in them....isnt it not allowed in the us
Just fun when fish complain like that. He had a low kicker and a K on the board. To get mad that I slowplayed KK was silly, he should not have been calling in the first place!
Sure am liking the cash games, now that I have learned how to be patient and be willing to fold many hands to play another day.
LOL, I love angry players! Just took a 86$ pot from someone on the .25/.50 FT game by slow palying kings and hitting a set opn the flop. Sucker had Q6 and flop was Q-10-K flop. I checked, he bet $5, I pushed to $10 and he went all in. Then he spent the next 10 minutes bitching how I could not raise with KK preflop and all I could say was it paid well. Two hands later, Karma stuck hiom in the but, went all in preflop with 99 and I was sitting there with AA! After that $58 hand, he just left!
Shoot, he just paid for my New Years!
... hmmmmmmmmn ... never thought of that .. ;) .. LoL
without leaving the house....i bet its saved alot of marriages....lol
.. LoL ... ;) .. me too .. plus it's mentally challenging and plain - old fashioned fun ..
it keeps me out of trouble...
Wow .. .if you had been at absolute poker you might have won big money for that losing hand ..
I don't quite get it all .. but they have something there called the bad beat boards or something .. I do play on them sometimes ....
ouch ! .. I hate that feeling ..;) .. yet - we go back .. ;)
i went all in lst night with a boat,8's/kings....lost to 4/8's...lol
Well, you know luck is on your side when you crack the same person's AA twice in one night. Both times the idiot did a small raise, then went all in immediately after the flop. First time caught my 10 fro a set on the flop and calle dthe all in, second time, my A9 of cloubs was joined by three more clubs on the flop and he still went all in with a flush board.
How come I can't find players like that all the time. Shoot, would be able to quit the day job if I could just run into one or two of those guys/day!
Anyone play the knockouts on Full Tilt? Starting to love those. If you have just a little patience, you can usually get your money back even if you don't make the money. Of course, barring a nasty suckout!
J.C. Tran finally won a WPT ... well deserved!!

Sounds good, I will check it out!
Yes, that is so true, discipline is key to success in many things. I struggled with discipline when I traded stocks full-time and I am now in the same situation with poker.
Thanks SC that is a goldmine of information for this Board. I am very tempted to check them out. I always thought that there was quite a similarity between poker and stocks, and your post certainly proves it.
Have you played Pureplay? It's kind of fun to practice skills, I finished at #1 several times among 500 and 1000 players in each play. The risk is $0, the reward is $20 and $50, just play for a couple fun hours if have time to kill. They've weekly $5K competition but I never had time to sit and play in the weekend. I like their $20/$100/$200 instant cash plays, these plays repeat every hour.
"Discipline" - that's so important both in playing poker and trading stocks.
Sure poker involves luck just like stocks. Its 100% luck when you play just one hand. But as you play more and more hands the % of luck involved turns to minimum. I think trading is the same way. As long as you have a good strategy, money management skills, and discipline you can beat the game over time. Sometimes you'll win a trade sometimes you'll lose even if you had great reasons to make the trade but in the long run you'll do well as long as you stick to your strategy.
