From August 4-7, Scorpion will take part in Vigilant Guard 2014, a large-scale, multi-state disaster response exercise conducted in Kansas, sponsored by U.S. Northern Command and the National Guard Bureau. The training exercise tests the capabilities of emergency response agencies at all levels of government, both military and civil.
More than 2,000 local, state, and federal personnel are expected to participate over the course of the six-day exercise at locations throughout Kansas, including Fort Riley, Overland Park, Salina, Crisis City and Smoky Hill Weapons Range near Salina, Topeka, and Wichita.
Scorpion’s role in Vigilant Guard will be to provide aerial reconnaissance, transmission of full motion video and communications regarding mock threat scenarios, in tight coordination with other aircraft and ground stations.
NGAUS General Conference & Exhibition
Soon after Vigilant Guard, Scorpion will be promoted in the Textron AirLand exhibit at the National Guard Association of the U.S. (NGAUS) 136th General Conference & Exhibition, from August 22-25 in Chicago.
This is the National Guard’s largest annual event, featuring displays of the latest military technology and presentations by leaders such as Gen. Mark A. Welsh, Jr., the Air Force chief of staff;
Rep. William Enyart, D – Ill., a former Illinois adjutant general; Gen. Darren W. McDew, the commander of Air Mobility Command; and Lt. Gen. Michael S. Tucker, the commander of First U.S. Army.
Air Force Association Air & Space Conference
The Scorpion will fly into Washington, D.C., to coincide with the AFA Air & Space Conference.
This the largest annual gathering of Air Force leaders, featuring more than 45 forums and a Technology Exposition spanning 100,000 square feet of space to showcase the latest technology within the air defense industry.
A model of Scorpion will be on exhibit from September 15-17, and invited guests will be able to see the actual Scorpion during a special event hosted at a facility close to the conference.
Progress Update
“We saw strong interest in Scorpion during The Royal International Air Tattoo and Farnborough International Air Show,” said Bill Anderson, president of Textron AirLand.
“While in the U.K., we briefed numerous international militaries on Scorpion’s multi-mission capabilities, as air forces see a growing need to execute sustained ISR (intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) in an affordable way.
We see Vigilant Guard and other upcoming events as opportunities to prove how Scorpion delivers high capability at a relatively low cost.”
Scorpion’s first trans-Atlantic roundtrip flight was completed on July 23, one day ahead of schedule. The flight from Wichita, Kansas to the U.K. air shows and back, covered over 9,200 nautical miles in total of 38 hours flight time.
Since its first flight in December 2013, the aircraft has been engaged in a rigorous flight testing program, with 155 flight hours logged thus far. The team is currently on pace to reach its goal of 300 flight test hours in 2014.
Future plans for Scorpion include live weapons testing, subject to obtaining required government approvals.

Textron AirLand Scorpion Participates in USNORTHCOM’s VIGILANT GUARD Exercise
Less than two weeks after returning from its international debut in the UK, Scorpion begins Operational Testing during the National Guard’s VIGILANT GUARD exercise in Salina, Kansas
Textron AirLand, LLC, a joint venture between Textron Inc. (NYSE:
TXT) and AirLand Enterprises, LLC, today announced that its Scorpion aircraft has completed operations in support of VIGILANT GUARD 2014, a Northern Command and Kansas National Guard training exercise demonstrating the capabilities of emergency response agencies at all levels of government, both military and civil.
With over 2,000 local, state, and federal personnel participating, Scorpion provided color High Definition multi-spectral aerial reconnaissance full motion video and communications with other aircraft and ground stations from 4-6 August 2014.
Demonstrating a 100% mission availability rate, Scorpion supported rapidly changing events on the ground, providing the Joint Task Force Commander crucial incident awareness to dynamically re-task surveillance and first responder teams as the complex disaster relief scenarios evolved.
During VIGILANT GUARD, Scorpion provided color High Definition multi-spectral aerial reconnaissance full motion video and communications with other aircraft and ground stations.

Integration of the Helmet Mounted Cueing System (HMCS) enabled Textron AirLand’s Mission Commander, Andy Vaughan, also a Traditional Guardsman and A-10C pilot, to maintain eyes on target while managing the Electro Optical and Infra Red sensor for optimal full-motion imagery downlink feed to the Kansas Air National Guard 184th Intelligence Wing Geospatial Operations Analysis Team.
With Scorpion’s video feed, the 184th IW was able to create and disseminate 30 complex intelligence assessment products to the 35th Infantry Division Tactical Operations Center (TOC) and Joint Task Force Commander for decisive and efficient command and control of first responder personnel.
“It was great to start operationally testing Scorpion at home in Kansas in real-world scenarios and provide validation that our aircraft design and performance goals are exactly what we had hoped for,” stated Vaughan after completing the VIGILANT GUARD missions. Scorpion participated in a variety of scenarios which included a simulated train derailment, chemical spill, infrastructure damage, medical evacuations and recovery operations.
These activities were coordinated daily with Army North Command and Northern Command operations staff.
Only eight months after first flight and having just returned from its international debut in Europe, Scorpion continues to demonstrate the reliability of its commercial best-practices development heritage and proven systems integration to perform these Air National Guard Title 10 and 32 missions and validate its efficient operating economics.
With an affordable acquisition and operating cost, Scorpion’s value proposition and diverse multi-mission integration capabilities are unmatched by other aircraft platforms.

Cessna Citation CJ3+ Gains FAA Certification
Cessna Aircraft Company, a subsidiary of Textron Aviation Inc, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, announced today it received type certification from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration for the Cessna Citation CJ3+. Certification, awarded Thursday, comes less than six months after the company introduced the new model in March.
The Citation CJ3+, with seating for up to nine people, is certified for single pilot operation, featuring a number of new systems designed to reduce pilot workload.

“Cessna is committed to new product development and the swift progress of the Citation CJ3+, from announcement to certification and on to the market, is a perfect example of that laser-like focus,” said Chris Hearne, vice president, Jets.
“The CJ3+ incorporates the latest in technology for the cockpit and for the passenger cabin which is exactly what the customer has asked us to do, and that has always been a hallmark of Cessna’s
new product innovations.”
The Citation CJ3+, with seating for up to nine people, is certified for single pilot operation, featuring a number of new systems designed to reduce pilot workload.
Building on the popular Citation CJ3, the CJ3+ features an integrated avionics suite from Garmin, the G3000, an automatically controlled cabin pressurization system, and an advanced fault and maintenance diagnostic system.
The G3000 avionics suite in the Citation CJ3+ includes turbulence detecting weather radar, TCAS II, advanced Terrain Awareness Warning Systems (TAWS), and automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) capabilities which make it compliant with a significant aspect of future Next Generation (NexGen) air traffic control requirements.
The aircraft cabin also features a wireless media server, Garmin integrated cockpit and cabin Iridium phone, and high speed internet capabilities.
With a range of up to 2,070 nautical miles, the CJ3+ is perfectly suited for the light jet market segment and can fly passengers nonstop from Washington, D.C., to Mexico City; from London to Moscow; from Shanghai to Bangkok; or from Lima to São Paulo.
Today’s news reflects the company’s focus on continued investment in general aviation’s most extensive product line up.
During the past year, Cessna has certified four new Citation models - the Citation M2, Citation Sovereign+, Citation X+ and now the Citation CJ3+. The next new Citation product coming to market within the coming year is the Citation Latitude, expected to certify in the second quarter of 2015.
Cessna created and continues to invigorate the light jet segment, giving customers the most expansive product line up on the market. From the popular entry level Citation Mustang and newly-certified Citation M2 jets, to the upgraded efficiency and comfort of the CJ3+ and the top performing CJ4, Cessna’s Citation CJ family of light business jets has evolved to offer a range of capabilities, systems and options unmatched in its class.
Cessna’s Citation series of jets are the most popular line of business jets ever produced, with more than 6,600 jets that have been designed, manufactured and delivered to customers around the world.

Technically the chart looks great, valuation way down & if it were
not for the CEO this stock would be a cinch for a revival. I am
betting we continue to see upward movement despite the pounding
this stock has taken under his "leadership".

It takes the avg American around working 30 years to earn one million...............and he along with all these corporate publicly traded companies are guilty, thanks to the Congress and past administrations who are in their service, as opposed to making the laws, and rules which would subject them to getting paid from the revenues they generate, this would make them truly earn their money as opposed to filling a seat. This is nothing more than allowed loopholes to issue stock and stock options, even during a company failing to profit, with out of this world severance pkgs even for limited service, unlike those who labor to build these companies in hourly wages, or those who invest in them, unless we measure their comp hourly to be in the range of $10,000 to $20,000 an hour and some much much more, even when their involved in corporate travel???, their travel expenses can reach into the tens of thousands.................not one has yet created space travel, found a cure for MS, or cancer, or the fountain of youth, but you would think they have. Not one person on this planet is worth these comp pkgs. $500k on the low end to $2m on the high end would be winning lottery tickets to a job position of Ceo, and many willing and able would be overjoyed with getting such an opportunity with that kind of pay, but even this would need to be scrutinized by shareholders and how well the company would is doing............$2m for the biggest of companies would be an extreme payout.
I can't fathom getting paid like Campbell did.
At least it was less than the previous year, bet that hurt em'......not.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Textron Inc., which makes Cessna planes, Bell helicopters and turf maintenance equipment, said Tuesday its first-quarter profit fell 63 percent as the recession drove down demand for its corporate jets. It also slashed its 2009 profit outlook and said it expects more job cuts.

The quarterly results reflect lower demand for Textron's large manufactured goods and smaller profits at its finance arm. Tough economic times have forced the Providence, R.I.-based industrial conglomerate to cut its global work force by 15 percent in recent months.
Textron also said it plans to sell $300 million worth of convertible senior notes and 19 million shares of its common stock.
The company will use the proceeds to repay debt and boost its cash. It will also hedge against any dilution of its common stock related to the convertible note sale. The diversified manufacturer has been aggressively looking to improve its liquidity, ending the quarter with $1.7 billion in cash.
"Despite the tough economic environment, our liquidity plan is substantially ahead of schedule," said Textron Chairman and CEO Lewis Campbell, in a statement.
Textron's first-quarter net income totaled $86 million, or 35 cents per share, down from $231 million, or 91 cents per share, in the same period last year. Textron reported a day earlier than Wall Street had expected.
In after-hours trading, shares dropped 89 cents, or 8 percent, to $10.31, after closing at $11.20. The company's stock had rallied in recent weeks amid speculation that it could be a potential buyout target.
Before restructuring charges of $32 million, Textron earned a profit of 26 cents per share -- beating Wall Street's earnings forecast of a penny per share.
The company now expects full-year restructuring charges of roughly $75 million, up from its previous estimate of $40 million. The higher charges reflect expected job cuts as demand continues to wane, along with closures of facilities.
Textron has already reduced its global work force by 6,200 positions. About 4,600 of those job eliminations come from Cessna. The company is expected to provide further details of potential job cuts during a conference call with Wall Street analysts before the market opens Wednesday.
Quarterly revenue fell 24 percent to $2.53 billion led by lower deliveries of business jets and weaker demand for its industrial products like E-Z-GO golf carts and lawn care machinery. Sales missed Wall Street's prediction of $2.78 billion.
Sales at Cessna, based in Wichita, Kan., fell 38 percent to $769 million. The unit delivered 69 jets in the fourth quarter, down from 95 in 2008.
Bell Helicopters' revenue rose 29 percent to $742 million on higher volumes and pricing for its military and commercial helicopters. However, it's industrial unit fell 37 percent because of lower demand for its products and unfavorable foreign exchange rates.
The company's troubled finance arm -- Textron Financial Corp. -- also reported revenues declined 43 percent to $122 million on lower market interest rates, lower securitization gains and other lower income.
Citing anticipated lower demand for Cessna jets and higher losses at Textron Financial, the company now anticipates earnings per share of between 45 cents and 75 cents in 2009. That is much lower than its previous estimate of $1 and $1.50.
Textron anticipates revenue of $11 billion, below its previous estimate of $12.5 billion for the year. That's also below Wall Street's forecast of a profit of 97 cents on revenue of $11.80 billion.

Proxy advisor RiskMetrics Group Inc. is recommending Textron Inc. shareholders vote against two outside directors over what the group calls "excessive" personal use of the company aircraft and "excessive new hire package" for Textron's president Scott Donnelly, who formerly served as chief operating officer.
Risk Metrics is advising shareholders vote against incumbent directors Lawrence Fish and Joe Ford in a directors' election April 22. Mr. Fish is Textron's lead outside director, and chairman of the Textron board's nominating committee. Mr. Ford is a member of the nominating committee.
Normally, the proxy adviser said it would recommend against members of the board's compensation committee over issues such as pay and alleged abusive perquisites. But since no compensation committee members are up for re-election, it turned its sights on outside directors Messrs. Fish and Ford. RickMetrics said Textron had taken some positive governance steps in response to past concerns.
In its proxy filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Textron responded that its compensation committee worked "diligently" to create compensation arrangements for Mr. Donnelly, "much of which was designed to 'make him whole" for compensation and benefits he lost when he left" General Electric Co.
Textron also said it "believes that its executives' use of aircraft manufactured by Textron's Cessna division is appropriate for business and personal use to increase their productivity and to showcase to potential customers the real-life efficiencies and other benefits of our aircraft products

Nice call Makes. I live 25 minuites from cooperate. I shoulda been payin attention to the local stocks .
Congrats
Thanks makesumgravy. I am off on Monday and will keep an eye out on my alerts, morning furtures, news, etc. I will check this board as well. Maybe if you hear anything one way or the other we could talk Monday. I would not argue about a $39 per share buyout:) Which seems unlikely. But we can all dream!
21 would be good too. I initially invested hoping down the road it could get back to close to what it was before the big hit, but I know that would take a long time.
See Yaa
More info should be out on Monday. I believe they may be in some negotiations over this weekend. The market would like to see the companies debt cleaned up, this has been the thorn. The other questions may be the Govt, so far I haven't heard anything?........The last question does the company really want to sell?............it employ's alot of people. The other thing is does the company want to sell at this price, this will not eleviate their $9bn in debt, they are only being offered $5.1 or so bn for the company. They need at least $39. The other question is who do they have in mind to sell the military defense side of the company to?.........
I believe this is why the stock didn't go higher, to many uncertainties.
