Magnitsky Rule of Law Accountability Act of 2012, a bipartisan bill passed by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Barack Obama in December 2012,
intending to punish Russian corruption of officials responsible for the death of Russian tax accountant Sergei Magnitsky in a Moscow prison in 2009.
The provisions would freeze their assets, and ban them from entering the U.S.
Russia annexed Crimea and backed separatists in eastern Ukraine, in 2014, the Obama administration in tandem with the European Union introduced
an array of economic sanctions on Russian individuals and businesses. Many of the individuals targeted were linked to Russia's actions in Ukraine or

Trump's campaign after the Trump Tower meeting with eight High level Russian officials would go on to make favorable overtures to Russia; praising Putin publicly in campaigns and subsequently removing the RNC's platform against Russian agression in Ukraine by watering down the RNC's position on Ukraine to a pro Russian one. Russia, in return used hackers and Russian intelligence to hack into the DNC, steal data and strategically disperse the hacked data through Wikileaks. The Russian GRU intelligence also used Facebook, Twitter and a number of Social Media platforms to advance Trump's campaign while pushing the hacked data through the "Internet Research Agency" as Russian troll farm. Trump denied throughout the 2016 campaign through 2018 of "having any Russian business" or acknowleding knowing about the Russian attempts to influence the U.S. elections. After Trump's attorney plead guilty to lying before congress, Trump on 11/29/2018 aknowledged 'he did in fact have business deals in Russia with Putin' (Cohen 32page transcript [ 1] )
About: Robert Swan Mueller III (born August 7, 1944) is an American attorney
who served as the sixth Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) from 2001 to 2013.A conservative Republican,appointed by President George W. Bush; President Barack Obama gave his original ten-year term a two-year extension, making him the longest-serving FBI Director since J. Edgar Hoover. He is currently head of the Special Counsel investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections and related matters.
A graduate of Princeton University, Mueller served as a Marine Corps officer during the Vietnam War, receiving the Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V" for heroism and the Purple Heart Medal. After graduating from the University of Virginia School of Law (1973), he worked at a private firm in San Francisco for three years until his appointment as an Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) in the same city. Before his appointment as FBI Director, Mueller served as a United States Attorney, as United States Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division, and as Acting U.S. Deputy Attorney General.
