Synovus (NYSE: SNV), the Columbus, Georgia-based financial services company, today announced that it has completed its exit from the Troubled Asset Relief Program (“TARP”) through redemption of $968 million of the company’s Series A preferred stock issued to the U.S. Treasury through the Capital Purchase Program.
Over two-thirds of the TARP redemption was funded by internally available funds (including a $680 million dividend from the company’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Synovus Bank). The balance of the redemption was funded by net proceeds from the recently completed $185 million common stock offering and $130 million preferred stock offering.
“The events of the past week are huge for our company, including three ratings agency upgrades, two successful capital offerings, and now the exit from TARP,” said Kessel Stelling, Chairman and CEO of Synovus. “Our company is stronger, our team is energized, and we can now intensify our focus on our customers.”
Synovus is a financial services company with approximately $27 billion in assets based in Columbus, Georgia. They reported a week early on the 18th so we're past 2Q earnings.. looks like they're making good progress on pretty much all fronts.. The repayment of TARP funds is awesome.. I'm bullish on SNV long term.. GLTU
http://www.dailyfinance.com/2013/07/18/synovus-reports-earnings-for-second-quarter-of-201/?source=TheMotleyFool
Ya so on the upcoming quater I they reporting anything in the 25th if July like yahoo finance says they are?
As they just reported earnings, I was wondering if you were asking about the upcoming qtr.
I like the stock. I plan to add some of the preferred here also.
Guess they reported early I was looking in yahoo and it said 25th
Why the question marks? What are your thoughts ?
??
What do you think will happen with earnings? Is it worth buying before it?
Synovus Financial (SNV) prices its near 60M share secondary at $3.09 each for gross proceeds of about $175M. As announced last night, the holding company is using the money (plus proceeds from a preferred stock offering, plus a $680M dividend from the bank) to pay back Treasury for TARP. Shares +3.6% premarket to $3.20.

It's clearly getting some 'tute love this am. We may or may not get a buying opp. I generally add some shares each qtr after it goes ex-div and I've been paying a little more each time for awhile. That's a good indication.
I like the news yesterday especially longer term. Not sure how SNV will act short term. Hopefully people will see the longer term potential SNV and see this as a buying opportunity. A plus is regional banks are on the move and, Jim Cramer on Mad Money gave it a buy
last night. As always do your own DD/research

Thanks for the response
It's a regional bank with HQ in GA. They announced earnings today, you might want to take a look. well managed and continues to improve it's overall position.
Can anyone enlighten me as to where this stock is headed? It came up on a screen and I was wondering how people were feeling about its potential.
TIA
30 billion in assets Make me Money stock!
SNV 3$ still looking strong
Insiders own boat-loads of shares. Some keep buying on the open market.
When they repay TARP in the 3rd or 4th quarter this year it is my belief that they will have to do another secondary offering. When that dilution happens I expect the share price to dip. All I am waiting for is that huge moment of accomplishment and a DIP to buy more.
I am only smarter than a few people who are "in the market" and self direct their money, but insider buying and ownership are good transparent indicators of what people with more knowledge than me think is the right thing to do.
I like to follow the smart money.
Exposure to a bank play for the year, I like SNV...when i saw the massive open interest on the Jan 2014/2015 3 and 4 dollar calls, i figure this one for a TARP turnaround winner, and a relatively cheap way to play it. Some major players betting bullish on this one.
Not much downside with book value around 2.92, and bumping up now against near-term resistance. IMO When this breaks out on the TARP repay, those 35-40 cent calls will be an easy 2-3 bagger. Market corrects, they go back to 25-35c., but bounce back fast...
I remember when they hit a $1. I should've loaded the boat then. I've consulted with the company--great guys and hard working...love 'em! Sometimes the best money to make is the easiest. Hats off to you sir.
I believe so I have always liked this stock the company is in my home town and has been a talked about stock here for years good luck to ya
i own 30k shares @1.10 avg. gonna double from here in 6mo's or LESS! (imho) of course. :) glta.
Wasn't yesterday's news great? Wondering why the sell off here.
August $2 calls are the ticket. I've got some and will likely add more.
Thanks for the headsup!
Just in:
The result of the sale of the NPAs with losses recorded in 2012 and the subsequent accrual reversal will result in almost $1 billion of additional potential after-tax income for Synovus in 2013. This clears the way for a substantial increase in the book value of the bank. Even reducing the $1 billion estimate by a 25% haircut results in an increase in current tangible book value from $1.6 billion to well over $2.3 billion, quite possibly by the end of June.
Since the bank is now profitable and has a growing loan portfolio, this implies that SNV will trade to comparables at the top end of its peer group.
There are about 800 million shares outstanding, including employee stock options not already granted, so tangible book value per share for SNV could easily go to $2.88 per share. A takeover valuation of 1.6 times implies $4.60 per share, almost double the current price of $2.44/share.
After earnings , this should see 40% gains, also Seeking Alpha just put out a very good artical on how they survived to crisis and are rising out of the ashes in the next few months. Shorts are gonna be bailing on Monday , made be a great day trade.
SVN - Breaking out to new 52 week highs on surging volume thanks to announcing $16 million in profit and a timetable to repay their TARP loan.
