Shahuindo Project, Northern Peru -
Shahuindo project is located in the district of Cachachi,
Province of Cajabamba in northern Peru, approximately 80 km
south of Cajamarca and 15 km west of the city of Cajabamba.
It lies in proximity to Alto Chicama (25 km to the south)
and Yanacocha (70 km to the north).
A striking geological feature found on the property is
the Algamarca anticline.
This open anticline is located in the southern part of
The northeastern limb of this anticline is composed of
a detritic sedimentary sequence, where most Au-Ag mineralized
occurrences are found.
The Chimu formation (primarily sandstone) outcrops from
the steep flanks of the anticline.
A general change in altitude of the sedimentary package
becomes less inclined a few hundred metres away from the
crest on the north-eastern limb.
Gradually, the Santa (chiefly shale) and Carhuaz formation
(a siltstone-sandstone sequence) appear with distance from
This sedimentary package is intruded by intermediate to
They appear spatially related to mineralization and have
a strike parallel to the anticline axis.
Some mineralized zones are outlined by drilling on the property.
They may be described as epithermal low grade, bulk tonnage
disseminated gold-silver mineralization hosted by sediments
and having a structural control more important than a
They are, by decreasing order of importance:
1) The Principal zone (also known as the San Jose zone) that
runs for 1.8 km on the northeast limb of the Algamarca
anticline, along the brecciated north contact of a
The geometry of the zone can best be described as having
a section that is the shape of a half Christmas tree, where
the trunk (10–30 m wide) is the porphyrysediment contact and
the branches (extending 0–100 m to the north) represent
mineralized sediment layers.click on image to expand
2) The East zone (also known as the Pampa de Arena zone)
is composed of two zones.
One trends parallel to the Algamarca fold axis and
orientation of sedimentary strata.
The second trends north-south.
There appears to be a cap rock providing a roof for
the mineralization for the second sub-zone.
In both cases, mineralization is hosted in sandstones and
no porphyries are present in the area.
3) The South zone, formerly known as the South Contact zone,
consists of mineralization hosted along the southern brecciated
contact of the altered porphyritic intrusive, in siltstone
The trend of the South zone is at a low angle with
the orientation of the fold axis of the Algamarca anticline.
Its geometry in section is the mirror image of
the Principal zone.
4) Mineralization in the Porphyry zone, formerly known as
the Cuerpo San Jose zone, is hosted within the altered
porphyry with very little sedimentary breccia.
Its geometry is interpreted as a thin, near surface layer
having an extent of 100 metres x 50 metres.
Sulliden’s first phase drilling program confirmed mineralization
in all four zones while increasing the average grade of
the Principal zone with the discovery of a new extension,
the Breccia zone.
A subsequent resource estimate, compliant with NI 43-101,
was undertaken by Met-Chem Canada Inc.
The resource estimate was based on all available drill data.
It outlined a resource of 25.8 million tonnes of 1.07 g/t gold
(using a 0.3 cut-off) and 23.97 g/t silver in the indicated
category, and 8.5 million tonnes of 0.92 g/t gold and
22.54 g/t silver in the inferred category for a
total of 1.14 million ounces of gold
and 26.1 million ounces of silver.

refer to the Company’s filing on Sedar (www.sedar.com).
Another zone of interest is the Shahuindo mine -
located near the geographic centre of the property, 2 km
north of the Principal zone.
The deposits are narrow gold-silver veins within trust
faults that were previously mined on a very small scale.
Also found on the property is the Algamarca mine -
which is located on the southwest portion of the property,
on the southwest limb of the Algamarca anticline.
It produced approximately 1.5 Mt grading 2.0% Cu,
680 g/t Ag from polymetallic vein deposits over a
45 year period.
The underground mine ceased production in 1989.
The veins strike northeast, dip steeply and have vertical
extents as much as 500 m.
Sulliden extended the grid at a line spacing of 200 m to
get grid coverage nearing 80% of the concession.
A magnetometry survey (200 line-km) was completed on the

On select areas defined by gold-insoil anomalies outside
of previously drilled zones, a more in-depth exploration
program to test the satellite extensions was the focus of
the second phase of drilling.
The first area, located 0.5 to 1.5 km southeast of the
East zone, was chosen to initiate drilling.
The program in this area consisted of detailed mapping
(scale 1:1,000) and surface grab sampling while a
preliminary drill program (24 holes for 3,800 m) was
completed at the Moyan Alto zone.
The results of the entire drilling program will be announced
in early 2005.

Barrick’s Pierina mine -
The property lies on the western flank of the Peruvian Andes

its first full year of production,
Lagunas Norte produced 1.1 million ounces of gold at
total cash costs of $100 per ounce,
Proven and probable mineral reserves as of December 31, 2006
are estimated at 8.8 million ounces of gold.
