Looking good this morning for the miners. I am adding at the open.
Haven't bought any yet as I would need to sell something first. I'm riding all the others up today and may take some profits this afternoon. Will continue to watch SWC.
Did you buy any yet? I think we go back to 8.50 in a few days.
I got some here at 8.08. What has me worried is the Dow that is in a bubble ready to drop hard.
I am thinking of grabing some here at 8.08.
Only 100 shares were traded at $7.48. 100 shares were also traded at $7.39. I believe it was someone trying to scare people out of their shares. I don't own any right now, but I like the $8.13 offer.
Didn't see it that low. Why is it going down so much?? I didn't buy yet.
Hi bundy, how about $7.39 trading in pre-market...?
Looks good here at 8.28, what do you think??
Back in SWC for a small position today. I bought with an account that I check every week or so and may trade ever few months. So, I'm in these shares for the long haul.
Trying to think the last time I was in Butte. 5 years? Lots of friends down there. Saint Paddy's Day isn't for me, though. Not a crowd person.
I'm not sure about the areas that they are mining but the areas I was in was a comfortable temp. About 65 F give or take a little.
In the maintenance areas I was in, they have air flowing in and taken back out via a piping system. My understanding was that the mine shafts were a fairly constant temperature year round.
If you get the chance and end up in the area, I'd sure try to go take a look. I don't know if I could work underground like that but going and seeing it was well worth the experience.
Butte is a neat area. I've been through it many times but hadn't been off the interstate until this year. Lots of interesting history. I hope to get back up there soon.
Interesting stuff. Don't know that I'll get to that area anytime soon- tour or no tour. But, it's interesting stuff. When I lived in Helena, I went to the mining museum in Butte many times. Just tried to research the temperature gradient for the Earth at 7500' and 3 miles. Didn't get much info other than the gradient varies widely depending on location and it's probably hot at those depths at Stillwater.
Made the trip under ground. Was interesting! The mine is a little over 3 miles deep.
I didn't get down to any of the mining areas that had the actual drilling/mining activity. I made it approximately 7500 ft under. I was working with the maintenance dept and providing some basic combustion analyzer training. (emissions). I was able to see a few of the various maintenance areas. Overall it is relatively tight quarters. We drove a small pickup into the side of the mtn and went down from there. Lots of shafts and it sure didn't take much for me to get disoriented lol.
Not sure how hard it would be to get a tour but they have given tours to college students. The miners can take their family members on a tour. I'm sure if it was planned through an appropriate contact that a tour could be arranged.
Thanks. Hopefully, I can get some green on two bear ETFs I jumped into (probably too early) on Friday in time for SWC to bottom out again.
Will Rogers had a pretty successful trading strategy- "Find a nice stock and buy it. When it goes up, sell it. If it doesn't go up, then don't buy it."
That is how you make money. Buy low sell high. Nothing to it. lol.
Out at 8.60. Probably will run higher- 8.80? But, the 60min chart looks pretty rough. And I'll take teh profit- hoping for .30 and I got .41.
Put in a sell order for 8.60. Chart looks really shakey.
Good job. Up in pre-market.
Back in this morning for a small position at 8.16. Chart looks pretty good for some upside.
Difficult to say which direction SWC will head. The EU Summit will probably generate some hope tomorrow which will send the broad market up 200 points....and whether SWC follows it or not is beyond my guessing. It just seemed to stall right around 8.30 today. I've had some good luck trading it from this trendline before, but just didn't opt to move my order up from 8.10. Had I bought it yesterday at 8.10, I might very well have sold it today after it couldn't get past 8.30.
Interesting job you have. I spent the day drafting a contract where one of the parties is the federal government. I think the feds spend far more paperwork explaining the "Paperwork Reduction Act of 1993" in these forms than it's saved paperwork.
I will check on public tours and let you know in 10 days or so. I know I have to get there several hours early for various training before we go down into the mine.
Looks like I will get to into a few underground mines in the SW corner of Wyoming. Emission issues with underground equipment and vibration analysis.
As far as the share price- it wouldn't surprise me if it dropped a bit more. Catalyst elements just seen another price drop.
That should be a fun and interesting trip. See if you can get some free samples. I wonder if they do actually conduct tours for the public- I'd like to get down to that area one of these days. Probably don't do tours, though.
Just put in a small order at 8.10. Looks like it wants to move up.
Get to go down in the mine in the next few weeks to provide some training. I won't be getting a big tour or anything but will in the underground portion of the mine. Should be a good trip!
Averaged down all I'm going to. Going to let it ride and see what happens.
I can't see it going much lower. Maybe a little under 8.00. Safe bet.
Somewhat tempting today to put in a small order at 8.11-ish. 60min looks like it could bounce, but I think the risk is more than I'm comfortable with and the reward potential isn't that great. Market is just going sideways and it might do that until the EU Summit.
I see that too. Gold is out of favor right now.
SWC starting to look interesting again. It might bottom out here or 8. I'll have to start really watching this again. Right now, I don't like entering here. All cash right now and going to stay that way for a bit.
You've got the guts of a riverboat gambler....GLTU.
LTS...shine on
Had to buy some gold stocks today. If it goes down more tomorrow game over for me. I am margin out.
Ichy and I were posting over there the other night, but it is quiet. Reply to one of my posts over there and I'll meet you there.
I was thinking the same thing. Both boards are quiet.
You might be right. I'm going to be a little quicker on the stop loss / sell button next time this runs over my cost basis. We probably ought to move our discussion of TYP over to the TYP board, though.
LOL! I had to Google XFactor. I am out of touch. I do know who Britney Spears is, however. And I'd go see her, too.
If it runs hard on Monday I will buy and get right in front of the train. I think it will be a repeat of last Monday when we ran up then down hard. If bad News Sunday I will also Buy at the pre-market. Thats the Plan. Going to XFactor Monday in Sac. Got to see Britney Spears.
I'm just in for the ride now. I saw it starting to break down at 11.60 yesterday morning and should have sold. Not sure which direction it's going to go on Monday. Right now, this market bounce seems to be just a counter-trend movement on hopes and rumors of stimulus, IMO. While I thought the markets were more likely than not to bloody this week, especially today, this bounce isn't terribly surprising. If it continues to go up much more, I'll rethink that.
I didn't buy. I think they may get there bail out and we might run up on Monday.
LOL! I was just debating on whether to buy more, but think I'll hold off. Market is not moving in the way I thought it would. It's up on rumors and hope as near as I can tell. Just going to sit tight.
Shall we buy typ now at 11.05???
Yep, just lots of patience here. I've got a ton of stuff to do at work and home so I'm just parked in one position.
Nothing really going on. Wait and see game.
I was watching an analysis yesterday that had PGMs moving down because investors pull money out the market, they put them in US dollars. This causes commodities like PGMs to go down. My thoughts are in agreement with you, however.
Was gone all day so I couldn't watch the markets. Holding steady where I'm at right now.
Gold could make a big move up with the dollar and euro going down in the next few weeks. The Dow dosn't know weather to crap or get of the pot.
It's what I'm betting on- bad news.
Good luck to us Tomorrow and the rest of the week. Too much negitives going on in the world for the dow to stay above 12,000. Going hiking now.
Good luck! Looks like it'll either bounce off the 11.15 or 11.05. The ULT should go down to the high 40's and reverse upwards. I don't see this market rally sustaining. TYP could hit lower, but even if the market is somehow reversing trend, it'll bounce high enough to get out. Weird day again.
Have fun hiking. Another 3 hours of work for me.
SWC is an enigma. I really watch the 60min chart on it and try to get it when the ULT is near 30.
TYP- Again on the 60min chart. Just went under the 11.30 support again. Next support is 11.15 or so. I think the ULT might have to reset on a trend line so 11.15???? I dunno. I think here is a good place to buy.
I just bought typ at 11.24. Could not help it.
Hiking after market close. typ looks good to buy right now. I missed the pull back on SWC this morning. Not sure if the ralley will continue Tomorrow. If I buy now and the ralley runs tomorrow I will be sorry. I have 20 minutes to decide.

Stillwater Mining Company is engaged in the development, extraction, processing, refining and marketing of palladium, platinum and associated metals (platinum group metals) (PGMs) from a geological formation in south central Montana known as the J-M Reef and from the recycling of spent catalytic converters. Associated by-product metals at the Company's operations include minor amounts of gold, silver, nickel and copper. The Company conducts mining operations at the Stillwater Mine near Nye, Montana and at the East Boulder Mine near Big Timber, Montana. Both mines are located on the J-M Reef. It operates concentrating plants at each mining operation to upgrade mined production to a concentrate form. The Company operates a smelter and base metal refinery at Columbus, Montana, at which it further upgrades the mined production to a PGM-rich filter cake. The filter cake is shipped to third-party custom refiners for final refining before being sold to third parties.
