China.com Inc. (Stock Code: 8006; website: www.inc.china.com), a 77% owned subsidiary of CDC Corporation (formerly known as chinadotcom corporation) (NASDAQ: CHINA; website: www.cdccorporation.net), is a mobile applications, Internet services and online game company in China.
Our principle business areas are Mobile Value Added Services (MVAS), online entertainment, and Internet services that target users in China. In the MVAS arena, we provide products and services on various platforms, including Short Messaging Service (SMS), Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) and Interactive Voice Response (IVR). The Company also offers online games and a broad range of online products and services via its portal network (www.china.com; www.hongkong.com).
MVAS is one of the fastest growing sectors in China and we have been actively participating in this sector since April 2003 after successfully acquiring Newpalm (China) Information Technology Co., Ltd., a leading MVAS provider in China. To expand our MVAS division, we acquired Beijing He He Technology Company Limited (Go2joy) from our parent company, chinadotcom, in August 2004. Go2joy provides an additional distribution platform for our MVAS products given its exclusive partnership with China's state-owned national TV station on certain selected popular TV programs.
In March 2006, we increased our shareholding in Beijing 17game Technology Co., Ltd. (17game) from 48% to 100%. 17game is a leading massive multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG) provider with a proven track record in launching and distributing successful online games for the China market. The acquisition underscores our commitment to the rapidly growing online gaming market in China.
