Americans like President Obama ... and they really dislike Mitt Romney
Wed Mar 28, 2012 at 11:23 AM PDT
ABC News:
Mitt Romney trails Barack Obama by 19 points in basic popularity as the 2012 presidential contest inches closer to the main event, with a record 50 percent of Americans in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll now rating Romney unfavorably overall.
Thirty-four percent hold a favorable opinion of Romney, the lowest for any leading presidential candidate in ABC/Post polls in primary seasons since 1984. His unfavorable score is higher than Obama ever has received; it’s been exceeded by just one other Republican candidate this year, Newt Gingrich, and by only one top candidate in 28 years, Hillary Clinton in 2008.
And not only is Mitt Romney a historically unpopular presidential candidate, President Obama remains popular, receiving a favorable rating from a majority of the voters surveyed.
Most of those who don't like President Obama are Republicans—his unfavorable rating is 86 percent among them. With 69 percent of Democrats rating Mitt Romney unfavorably, Democrats don't dislike Romney nearly as much as Republicans dislike President Obama. But Republicans also don't like Romney nearly as much as Democrats like President Obama. Republicans split 62-30 on Romney, while Democrats split 86-12 on President Obama.
President Obama also has big advantages among independents and moderates, receiving a net favorable rating of +4 and +27 respectively, compared with Mitt Romney who received a -17 and -13 rating, respectively.

OMG/OBAMA MUST GO - NOBAMA IN 2012!!!
Expect to see him around a few more years.
George Bush, the quitter, gave up looking for OBL early in his first term,
and the self proclaimed War President started 2 wars with no intentions for ending either of them.
Then along comes the current Pres. who takes out OBL and ends the Iraq war in his first term, with Afghan next in his sights.
Romney would undoubtedly be another Bush, only worse.

Originalist Sin

Would this man have supported the health care mandate?
National Archives/Getty Images
The five conservative justices on the Supreme Court—Thomas, Alito, Scalia, Roberts and Kennedy—cloak themselves in the myth that they are somehow channeling the wisdom and understanding of the Founding Fathers, the original intent that guided the drafting of the Constitution. I believe the premise of their argument is itself suspect: It is not clear to me how much weight should be given to non-textually based intent that is practically impossible to discern more than 200 years later. Most of the issues over which there is constitutional dispute today could not even have been envisioned when the document was drafted.
Even so, it would be an even better response to the conservative wing’s claim of perceived understanding of original intent to be able to refute their claims by showing them to be historically and indisputably wrong. So once again let’s venture into the world of the health care debate. The consensus view is that existing Commerce Clause doctrine clearly authorizes the type of mandate passed in the act—see in particular the affirmance of the statute by ultraconservative Judge Silberman of the D.C. Circuit Court.
Nonetheless, those opposing the bill insist that an individual mandate has never been done and the framers would simply not permit such an encroachment on liberty and freedom.
Some spectacular historical reporting by Professor Einer Elhauge of Harvard Law School in the New Republic thoroughly rebut the argument. He has found three mandate equivalents passed into law by the early Congresses—in which a significant number of founders served—and reports that these bills were signed into law by none other than Presidents George Washington and John Adams. As Founders go, one might consider them pretty senior in the hierarchy. Their acts can probably be relied upon to give us a reasonable idea what the Founders intended to be the scope of congressional and governmental power.
Amazingly, the examples of individual mandates passed by the founders are so directly applicable that the claim that original intent precludes affirming the heath care act should become almost laughable:
In 1790, a Congress including 20 Founders passed a law requiring that ship owners buy medical insurance for their seamen. Washington signed it into law.
In 1792, another law signed by Washington required that all able-bodied men buy a firearm. (So much for the argument that Congress can’t force us to participate in commerce.)
And in 1798, a Congress with five framers passed a law requiring that all seamen buy hospital insurance for themselves. Adams signed this legislation.
In aggregate, these laws show that the Founders and the Congress of the time were willing to force all of us to participate in a particular act of commence and were comfortable requiring both the owner of a business and the individual employee to buy insurance in order to assure that health costs would be covered at a societal level. That is a pretty complete rebuttal to all the claims being made by the originalists as they relate to the health care act.
But what is so powerful about these historical finds is not just that they rebut the specific argument about original intent as applied to the health care act. This history lays bare the ahistorical nature of the justices’ claims at another and deeper level. For the types of bill passed in 1790, 1792, and 1798 show the Founders to have been doing exactly what congress did especially well in the era of FDR—--experimenting with solutions and approaches to resolving social issues in ways that made government part of creative problem solving.
These examples show the fallacy and the false rigidity that the originalists seek to impose on our government. In their effort to cabin and restrain the government—their ideology of the moment—they seek to have the benefit of the claim that the founders shared such a limited approach to governing. In fact, the approach to governing that these acts demonstrate is more nuanced and thoughtful.
As with so many of the claims of the originalists, a slight understanding of the true history shows that the originalists’ view is mere ideology being imposed on a false understanding of history.

A false understanding of history?
ROFLMAO!!!
Not hardly...it's more about insurance companies' profits than anything so high-minded as adherence to any Founder's precepts.
Fukushima still spewing massive radiation plumes; America in 'huge trouble,' says nuclear expert
Tuesday, May 01, 2012 by: Ethan A. Huff, staff writer
(NaturalNews) During a recent Congressional delegation trip to Japan, Oregon Senator Ron Wyden witnessed with his own eyes the horrific aftermath of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, which we have heard very little about from the media in recent months. The damage situation was apparently so severe, according to his account, that he has now written a letter to Ichiro Fujisaki, Ambassador of Japan, petitioning for more to be done, and offering any additional support and assistance that might help contain and resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
The letter, which many experts see as the ominous writing on the wall for the grave severity of the circumstances, offers a disturbing glimpse into what is really going on across the Pacific Ocean that the mainstream media is apparently ignoring. While referencing the fact that all four of the affected reactors are still "badly damaged," Sen. Wyden seems to hint in his letter that Reactor 4, which has reportedly been on the verge of collapse for many months now, could be nearing catastrophic implosion.
Imminent collapse of Reactor 4 could create a mass extinction event of both humans and animals
According to Christina Consolo, an award-winning biomedical photographer and host of Nuked Radio, Reactor 4 has remained in such bad shape that even a very small earthquake could quickly level the building, sending the fuel from more than 1,500 unused fuel rods into the environment. And with Reactor 4 still filled with the highest levels of radioactive MOX and other fuels, the consequences of this potential collapse could be far worse than anything that has happened thus far as a result of the earthquake and tsunami.
"[S]itting at the top of [Reactor 4], in a pool that is cracked, leaking, and precarious even without an earthquake, are 1,565 fuel rods (give or take a few), some of them 'fresh fuel' that was ready to go into the reactor on the morning of March 11 when the earthquake and tsunami hit," writes Consolo. "If they are MOX fuel, containing six percent plutonium, one fuel rod has the potential to kill 2.89 billion people."
Sen. Wyden is also asking U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Gregory Jaczko to assess how much additional assistance their agencies might be willing to provide to help Japan, and the entire world, avoid a nuclear catastrophe of Biblical proportions.
"The scope of damage to the plants and to the surrounding area was far beyond what I expected and the scope of the challenges to the utility owner, the government of Japan, and to the people of the region are daunting," wrote Sen. Wyden in his letter, dated April 16, 2012. "The precarious status of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear units and the risk presented by the enormous inventory of radioactive materials and spent fuel in the event of further earthquake threats should be of concern to all and a focus of greater international support and assistance."

Coroner of Andrew Breitbart poisoned amid suspicious circumstances surrounding Breitbart's death.
http://theintelhub.com/2012/04/30/corner-of-andrew-breitbart-poisoned/
SOROS - From what I have been reading it is very real. What I don't understand though is why there isn't a huge international effort to shore up the facility and get those rods into safe storage away from that pool. I hope I'm wrong, but it that pool collapses the equivalent of 800 nuclear bombs worth of radiation could excape into the atmosphere dooming much of the northern hemisphere.
Trinityz1 - It is the opinion of many that the raid never took place. Some believe he died at or shortly after Tora Bora due to kidney disease or a complication from that. He was on dialysis after all. Why have we not seen even one picture of Bin Laden either before, during, or after the raid? No pics of his burial "at sea" either. Oh, and Seal Team 6, at least the members who supposedly took part in the raid, were killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanastan shortly after the event. Gee, I wonder why.
Obama Fails to Stem Middle-Class Slide He Blamed on Bush

How true do you think this info is?
Fukushima
This appears to be our most pressing threat, since it is not only far from over, but reactor 4, which has been weakened to a point of near collapse, contains over 1500 fuel rods, any one of which could kill billions if its plutonium is released. Independent experts are telling us that this will most assuredly lead to a near-extinction event for humanity. Meanwhile, the amount of radiation that already has been released -- on top of what is in our environment due to weapons of war and other reactor leaks -- is beginning to lead to physical signs across North America. Alaskan wildlife is showing signs of radiation poisoning, despite official denial; human cancer rates are spiking, and plant mutations are being recorded in Michigan. After governments have largely downplayed the situation by ignoring readings and raising radiation safety limits for food, a few are beginning to raise their voices in earnest to tell the world of a coming mass extinction event.

The next time you hear a politician use the
Word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about
whether you want the 'politicians' spending
YOUR tax money.
A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,
But one advertising agency did a good job of
Putting that figure into some perspective in
One of its releases.
A.
A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
B.
A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.
C.
A billion hours ago our ancestors were
living in the Stone Age.
D.
A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.
E.
A billion dollars ago was only
8 hours and 20 minutes,
at the rate our government
is spending it.
While this thought is still fresh in our brain...
let's take a look at New Orleans ...
It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.
Louisiana Senator,
Mary Landrieu (D)
was asking Congress for
250 BILLION DOLLARS
To rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number...
What does it mean?
A.
Well .. If you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans
(every man, woman and child)
You each get $516,528
B.
Or... If you have one of the 188,251 homes in
New Orleans , your home gets$1,329,787.
C.
Or... If you are a family of four...
Your family gets $2,066,012.

SEALs slam Obama for using them as 'ammunition' in bid to take credit for bin Laden killing during election campaign
By Toby Harnden
Serving and former US Navy SEALs have slammed President Barack Obama for taking the credit for killing Osama bin Laden and accused him of using Special Forces operators as ‘ammunition’ for his re-election campaign.
The SEALs spoke out to MailOnline after the Obama campaign released an ad entitled ‘One Chance’.
In it President Bill Clinton is featured saying that Mr Obama took ‘the harder and the more honourable path’ in ordering that bin Laden be killed. The words ‘Which path would Mitt Romney have taken?’ are then displayed.
Besides the ad, the White House is marking the first anniversary of the SEAL Team Six raid that killed bin Laden inside his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan with a series of briefings and an NBC interview in the Situation Room designed to highlight the ‘gutsy call’ made by the President.

SIGAR Report Finds Afghanistan Reconstruction Compromised By Security, Corruption
The transition from use of private security contractors to the state's Afghan Public Protection Force is an area of concern identified in a special inspector general's report.
WASHINGTON -- Afghan reconstruction efforts remain severely hampered even after nearly $100 billion in spending over the last 10 years, according to a new watchdog report. The most immediate challenge stems from the insistence by Afghanistan's government that the private army of hired guns providing security for ongoing projects be replaced with Afghan locals, who do not appear to be up to the job, the report noted.
The latest quarterly report from the Special Inspector General for Afghan Reconstruction (or SIGAR) released on Monday also chronicles how corruption in the country shows no signs of having let up.
The report's most urgent warning concerns the "imminent transition" from private security contractors (PSC) to the state-owned Afghan Public Protection Force.
Steven J. Trent, the acting special inspector general, expressed concerns that as many as 29 major USAID projects costing nearly $1.5 billion are at risk of full or partial termination "if the APPF cannot provide the needed security." About half that amount has already been spent.
And whether it can is very much an open question, Trent wrote. The U.S. embassy, the Afghan government and the U.S.-led military forces agreed a year ago to check the progress of the Afghan Public Protection Force at the 6-, 9-, and 12-month marks.
"The 6-month assessment, completed in September 2011, found that the APPF was not ready to assume any of the essential PSC responsibilities to meet contract requirements -- such as training, equipping, and deploying guard forces," the report pointed out. "[T]he December assessment, which would have been at the 9-month mark, has not yet been made public" and "the deadline for the 12-month assessment has passed."
The SIGAR report also cited a litany of failed anti-corruption efforts, including the following:
"The Afghan Attorney General’s Office (AGO) continued to avoid prosecuting significant corruption cases this quarter: it did not prosecute any high-level officials at the national or provincial levels."
The High Office of Oversight for Anti-Corruption's "core functions of combating corruption remained mostly ineffective this quarter, and some have deteriorated."
The U.S. Department of Justice continued its suspension of training of the Afghan government's Anti-Corruption Unit, with the Department of State, noting that training will resume only if its work "is taken seriously."
The Afghan government's Major Crimes Task Force "made no progress" in getting the Afghan Attorney General's office to prosecute the public corruption cases it had developed.
The National Assembly’s legislative committee rejected a draft law to strengthen government audits.
"A policy aimed at implementing a merit-based hiring system of provincial and deputy-provincial governors has remained stalled since May 2011, when the policy was suspended."
"The Afghan government’s progress in implementing asset verification for government officials continued to fall short of U.S. expectations."
"Customs collections are very susceptible to fraud and corruption at all major entry points, and the Afghan government continued to make little progress counteracting the problem."
And the Afghan government's passport agency "is beset by corruption" with staffers illegally selling passports on the street outside the department.
BOREALIS - Although I detest the republicans the democrats including Mr. Obama aren't much better. Obama most likely did not eliminate OBL... he died at or shortly after the raid on Tora Bora probably from kidney failure. He was on dialysis at the time. Some officials from the Bush era are willing to swear under oath that he died then. Why have we not seen even one picture of the raid, of OBL before, during, or after the raid? Did you know that all of the members of Seal Team 6 died in a helicoptor crash in Afghanastan shortly after they supposedly offed OBL? Do you find that strange? Dead men can't talk as they say. The Iraq war is NOT ended.... we still have thousands of personnel there including military personnel. It was scheduled to end by Bush, not by Obama (and I hate Bush, believe me). Are you bragging that we illegally intervened in a civil war in Libya, a sovereign nation, to out Mr. Kaddafi who was no threat to America? All he wanted to do was trade his oil in a different currency than US dollars. Ooooops. Yes he does continue to go after Al CIA-duh. They make easy drone targets, especially when the CIA created them in the first place (yes, we gave arms and money to Osama Bin Laden to create Al Qaida). Ended "don't ask don't tell"... big whoopee! Like that means anything to the fate of America. Why we are staying one more day in Afghanastan is a mystery. We have accomplished nothing except to alienate the populace and create the largest heroin dealership the world has ever known. We must be making billions from it... our troops are guarding their fields! Oh, and I guess he forgot to close Guantanamo, he forgot his promise not to raid legal cannabis collectives, he signed the NDAA, expanded drone activity to America, appointed Monsanto executives to oversee the FDA and USDA making sure their GMO poison will be grown and fed to us, poisoning our land and our bodies. I could go on and on, but Obama is an abject failure, a trojan horse that campaigned on hope and change but instead brought us Bush's third term. He works for the same international banking cartel as Bush did, he couldn't give a rats behind about America or our Constutition. I'm going to vote Green or perhaps Libertarian, but under no circumstance will I be voting for a liar, thief, murderer, and traitor to America.

Republicans outraged Obama usurped their 'Daddy party' throne
Mon Apr 30, 2012 at 07:15 AM PDT
[As has been pointed out here at Dkos, Republicans are dripping with poutrage in a lame attempt to prevent President Obama from benefitting from his own accomplishments. Dissent is important, but so is political reality.]
For decades, the Republican party enjoyed an advantage on national security and defense, anchoring and reinforcing its status as America’s ‘daddy party’. Bush’s failed Iraq strategy and prolonged bloodshed there damaged the brand, leading to a midterm meltdown and the axing of Rummy. McCain’s war service helped revive the GOP strength gap for 2008, but the financial crisis and Palin swamped that advantage. In 2012 however, the script has been flipped. After scoring an early victory on Gitmo, Republicans have largely been silent (apart from the 'Obama apology tour' meme) or muddled over security and foreign policy during the Obama presidency. Neoconservatism is unpopular and the tea party isn’t focused abroad.
The events of last year proved a major turning point in reshaping perceptions and bolstering President Obama’s standing on defense and national security as he enters into a challenging re-election campaign. In 2011 Barack Obama:
• eliminated Osama bin Laden
• ended the Iraq war
• intervened militarily to help Libyans oust the Gadhafi regime
• leveraged our relationship with the Egyptian military to end Mubarak’s reign, breathing life into the Arab Spring
• removed several other al-Qaida leaders—including Anwar al-Awlaki—from the battlefield, dramatically weakening the terrorist organization
• ended “Don’t ask, don’t tell”
• announced the withdrawal of surge forces from Afghanistan by summer of 2012, followed by a steady drawdown approaching the 2014 transfer deadline
The raid President Obama ordered that killed America’s enemy #1 is the most memorable and visceral because of its surprise nature, revealed in a dramatic Sunday night presidential statement, and for the obvious emotional connection to 9/11. The successful mission ended a decade of national impotence, unleashing a wave of euphoric celebration that manifested outside the White House, in Manhattan and across the country. As the details came out, it was clear that the elements of risk associated with the raid were high and that Obama’s advisors were not sold on the mission, further elevating the presidential decision. Finally, President Obama demonstrated such graceful leadership in visiting NYC to honor the heroes of 9/11 and comfort the victims’ families.
By fulfilling his campaign promise to end the Iraq war, Barack Obama pleased the American people and upset Republican politicians. Nothing else so starkly highlights the chasm between Republican foreign-policy ideology and the thinking of average Americans. The troops were home for the holidays but Republicans were acting like grinches, prognosticating a collapse of the Iraqi government and a return to sectarian conflict. Well, the new round of P5+1 negotiations with Iran are taking place in Baghdad next month, so I guess all hell hasn’t broken loose yet. Back on the home front, the First Lady and Dr. Jill Biden are leading a national effort through Joining Forces to, among other things, encourage companies to help meet the president's jobs challenge for returning veterans and their spouses.
Much more . . .
