Very interesting I can adjust the width of my lines on the puter I will have to work on that on one of my charts. TY Just tried it I can make my study lines wider like MAs etc but that does not change the width of my R/S which is a separate setting. lol I will have to figure a plan B. lol
i think of it like this
when drawing lines on a chart, i use a 'sharpie' or giant marker to draw support and resistance. that givesme the 'range' i use for those lines. sometimes its a specific point, but most times the range works well
all imho of course
SSB yes I think the range is a good method, and then if you further apply if: it has, or does not have volume, as a mental overlay you can interpret it fairly well.
I try to approximate congestion, if there is a lot it will require more volume than if there is a minor amount. I suppose you could use the price x volume overlays which are on many charts to do the same since it shows volumes and ranges.
TY SSB I am always searching out different ideas.
minor differences there buddy. i see support and resistance at a 'range' as opposed to being a specific point(price)
yeah! LOL.. that's why I try to trust my own judgement... sometimes I am off.. but usually not by much.
DK funny how sometimes 5 traders call 5 different R/S as you call it. lol
ERFW I have been watching for a while to see if it would break out of the trendline... today could be that day
I agree about the volume.. I tend to use the bottoms.. but it depends on the consistency of touches during that time period...if the tops are more consistent I will use them..
DK & SSB / SSB woke me out of my daze and gave me a DUH on that one. lol
Do you use the identification method described by stockcharts for SPT and RES or do you subscribe to Low trader's method, or do you look for congestion overhang or do you use something else entirely?
Some say resistance begins at the bottom of the congestion of overhanging candles, but some use the tops of the candles as the resistance identification.
Imo If sufficient volume is there it doesn't much matter, but if not the SP seems stall many times at the bottom or low middle maybe.
What are your thoughts on it DK?
How about yours also SSB
its all good buddy!
oh.. sorry.. support and resistance
Ohhhhhhhhhhh lol just did not look familiar. DUH. TY SSB
support/resistance
Dark: S/R not familiar with that abbreviation? TIA
very nice URRE has been a beast!
Yes... the trend lines and S/R, I physically draw on my chart.
you're welcome Nic... make yourself at home...
Dark when you say "chart lines" are you referring to trends or patterns or both? TIA
Hi DM...just found your board...looking forward to learning and earning with you and this team I don't know the first thing about scans, but have learned to read charts LOL!
Thanks for doing this!
awesome... i think you will like my scans then...we are in the same boat. I try to find listed, sub $2 that are reversing.
for entries I am using VOL and chart lines, MACD, EMA, SMA, TRIX, STOCHS, PSAR
I am learning that the most reliable indicator I have are my chart lines. I amaze myself sometimes when I look at a stock I drew on a year or two ago and see my lines held over time... gives me confidence in my trades.
DK good explanation and to a large degree what I do relative to the bit longer trades. I can't afford small moves of say 2% primarily due to the roundtrip commissions I have to pay, time I am all done my net would be very tiny and since most of my trading is in retirement accounts I deal with settled cash no margin, that means a 3 day lag on a trade. Fortunately I have a few accounts and if one is not liquid usually another is at a given time. lol.
I look forward to your scans, what oscillators are you using mostly? I use primarily Cloud, OBV,CFM,FULL STO, VOL, MA, and trend line, as well as gap trading, Patterns, and Candles. I don't use P&F, bar, or line much at all.
exactly.. the signals set the time frame..could be a day..or years! each chart time frame gives different signals..
Look at ASTM.
we listed here on 10-28-2010 ..so on a 30 min. you might make several moves in and out:
out on 29th
in on 1st
out on 2nd
in on 4th,
out on 5th
in on 8th...etc..
where on the daily it says hold the whole time... maybe get out on 2nd in on 4th but that is up to the individual... on a lot of shares makes sense.. on small lots, not so much.. imo..
the important thing to do with my scans... imo, is combine your indicators with the trend line and support/resistance... some, like PCBC pop right away (my scan probably picked up insiders buying into the close)... others, like AVNR pull back and test, then move... some break down and go away....
DM I just wondered, if we are not Day trading (selling out a position the same day we buy it) then it sounds like almost any time horizon could be swing trading? It rather puzzled me since the Zig Zag is specifically designed for Swing trading from what I gathered anyway, and the 4 week rule seems to be designed for swing as well, even though frequent traders/flippers also use it.
So if I understand you properly it just means a hold for longer than 1 day with no express time exit. Hmmm does sound like what I am doing then, if that is correct.

swing trading is simply holding a position overnight. Sounds like you are experienced already!
AIB(got some earlier) Hi board, I have not formally done swing trading although I am a very frequent trader using different methodology and oscillators/charts and time periods. Not sure what the difference is, can any explain it? Currently I may hold a stock for 1day or 5 weeks depends on my chosen entry exit.
I have read a bit about using the 4 week rule which according to my reading was voted to be one of the best back in 1970 sell when it breaks the MA20 and buy when it breaks the MA20 pretty painless from the looks. I also read some on Zig Zag as an oscillator, although I am not sure how exactly it relates.
Any info/hints would be appreciated.
TIA

DF pinch on deck. Not ready, but forming up.
I know DM went to the basic monkinar I cant remember if he went to the basic, but im sure we can use the basic class rules, i believe you use the 30 or 60 min chart time frame, Im looking at some of his picks now and will get one soon if they look good to me. i dont know if this helps but DM would be the one to ask i guess send him a pm
GM all. Quick question...these swing's can be used with knowledge from the Basic Monkinar right? Or just advanced knowledge? Sorry if it is a question that has already been answered, just looking for assurance from you or others who are experts at this. Thx.

This board is for posting swing trade opportunities in ETFs and sub $20 stocks.
What is a swing trade? Simply a position that is held overnight.
The plays here are for TRADING... NOT INVESTING! The avg. trade will be 1-2 days...lather, rinse, repeat.
All my postings are my opinion based on 30 and 60 min.T/A chart setups.
I may or may not post entry and exits.
Readers are responsible for their own trade decisions.
The trades suggested here are meant to be short term swing trades.
If you choose to post an opportunity here, please post the T/A indicators that support your pick.
Thank you and have fun making money here....
