Nasa Past composite reasearch ...http://www.nasa.gov/offices/nesc/home/Feature_6_090908.html
I will try to research composites in an on going manner I am sure We will see some major breakthroughs within our lifetimes.
Great article! Thanks. Some of these composites have been in use for autoracing for decades, and fabricating is relatively easy.
Honeycomb aluminum and fiber composites (not sure what fiber) were used for the instrument-unit ring for Saturn Sa5 in 1964.

I know of a couple of sites myself just so many and just so much time in everyday //between work family research etc.. If you catch my drift . Thanx for the heads up and i will foward anything I feel worthy Myself. Happy hunting // Space is our future ,Energy ... Resources... Room to Grow ... etc..
YW! Stuff that good should be passed around, I didn't at first...thinking everyone knew about it.
Do you have netflix?....They have 4 seasons of National Geographic's "The Universe" series. The ones I found most interesting were Pulsars and quasars...and the one about extreame energy. (both season 4)
Good shows, only drawback is they were made for commecial TV, so there are alot of recaps in between subjects.(Where they would come back from 5 minutes of commercials.)
great site thanx my friend
Those are available at hubble site for free in various resolutions.

New Year hopefully some New and Good news going foward my friend . We need some more photos like the one in your post awesome IMHO
Have a safe and Happy Holiday and a great New Year to all Cheers to 2011
One concept for protecting spacecraft from radiation //Magnetic shielding...http://www.thespacereview.com/article/308/1
I'm Proud to say my Father made some of the components for the crawler that takes the launch vehicles to the pad.
You better believe it we toured the station ourselves what a feeling //I can relate 100% //We my wife and son saw A shuttle liftoff as well I cannot tell you how I felt seeing that spaceship liftoff // I bet the Saturns made that look like a bottle rocket in comparison .. Just saying WOW what a sight reguardless
One of the "brags" they made in the 1960's was Most, or a great deal of Saturn's hardware components were "of the shelf" How true this actually was, I'm not sure. Last time I was in Florida, I went to see the one on display. You could almost feel the ground shake, just looking at it.
Yes I have to agree the Saturn 5 what a blast off if only they could replicate using modern tech in addition to past performance combined what a concept going into our future...
The Saturn 5 was the single most impressive launch vehicle ever made. What did we learn? Was that knowledge gained preserved?
A few years back "Experts" claimed that it would not be possible to do that again, the some of the methods used were "Lost"! Utter disbelief to have heard that.
Chemical propusion has its uses. (And limitations, and costs) I suppose its too much to hope for, that some genius out there is on the verge of discovering Dark Matter repulsion/attraction work-around that would give us a seemingly "Antigravity" device, lol.
I still have hope that someday We might use the technology gained from our experience gained from launching the space shuttles over the years just a thought...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shuttle-Derived_Launch_Vehicle
I have pondered that concept for many years myself //Instead of de orbit burn up why not reuse or recycle any and all components that are viable Perhaps , Excellent topic for further discussion.
Cheapest route to orbit will likly be a hybridization of several means of achieving orbital-speeds.
Launched from a railgun, assisted by ramjet that returns for reuse separately, and insertion by chemical-rockets.
Even though it may require more effort, it may be possible to design as much of the initial craft (Fuel tanks, for example) that is normally "expended" or discarded during ascent, to be assisted to orbit with the craft, or separately to reduce risk to a manned mission. Having foresight to conserve all reuseable items for different purposes will reduce expenses for future projects. The first company that successfully adopts the Waste nothing principal will be the the leader.
Nasa looking at "shelved" ideas for propusion?....Ion or something involving a type of nuclear-propulsion, Hmmm. Laser-boost has shown some promise.
Navy's been developing rail-gun technoledgy....be great if these advances could come without the "weaponizing" that always seems to be first in application.
Another great site Sir I gotta say that I am very happy to meet like minded peops keep up the effort as will I
Russian company to build space hotel
Orbital Technologies(of Russia) will build, launch and operate the Commercial Space Station and in doing so, will lead the private sector in the commercializing human spaceflight platforms in low Earth orbit.
The CSS will be able to accommodate several diverse industry functions that have been identified through years of research, operational experience and requests that have been made by our strategic partners. These capabilities include, but are not limited to:
• Enabling space-based microgravity research
• Providing a destination for commercial human spaceflight, space tourism, and state sponsored human spaceflight programs
• Acting as a backup and emergency safe haven for the International Space Station and its crew
• Enabling product development
• Facilitating satellite servicing and maintenance
• Providing a staging outpost for human space flight missions beyond low ?arth orbit
• Supplying a uniquely capable remote sensing platform
They plan to have the Space Station in orbit sometime between 2015 & 2016. They have entered into an agreement with a U S company to book tourist and comercial flights to the hotel.
Here is the website created to market the space hotel.

ty! I mostly prefer to read, but will pipe in if I have something useful to add here.
On March 22 the WhiteNightTwo (WN2) and SpaceShipTwo (SS2) took to the skies for the first time. SpaceShipTwo is the prototype for the world's first commercial passenger spaceship, destined to take private astronauts into suborbital space and paving the way for space transportation.
