“Our Barracuda integration addresses a key market need,” said Wendy Cartee, VP Marketing, Ruckus Wireless. “Many of our customers use the Barracuda Web Filter and want to apply consistent end user policies across their wired and wireless networks. From the article you referenced:
".....Ruckus also stands to benefit from Google 's (NASDAQ:GOOGL) fiber-optics network, which got started around Kansas City, Kan., and has expanded into Provo, Utah, and Austin, Texas. Google is expected to roll out the Google Fiber fast-broadband service into more than 30 U.S. cities as well as other countries.
Among the customers that Google wants to target with the network are small to midsize businesses, Trebnick says.
"It hasn't been confirmed, but everybody believes Ruckus will be one of the primary suppliers of Wi-Fi when Google does this," she said.
Ruckus executives wouldn't comment on the Google Fiber rumors.
For now, the company has plenty of business to keep it occupied. Ruckus was founded in 2004 and had its initial public offering in November 2012. It has been profitable since 2009 and expects to keep growing those profits in coming quarters and years.
"We've made significant investments in R&D over last few years, and we're now at a position where revenue is growing faster than R&D spending," Hennessy said. "We have also achieved operating efficiencies that led to higher gross margins."
Ruckus logged second-quarter gross margin of 70%, up from 67.4% the prior year and above Trebnick's estimate of 68.5%. Earnings climbed 83% to 11 cents a share, topping the consensus view of analysts. Revenue gained 26.8% to $81 million, also above consensus.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expect full-year profit of 40 cents a share, more than double the previous year's earnings. EPS for 2015 is seen rising 45% to 58 cents.
"We are in a significant growth cycle for Wi-Fi over the next couple of years because of the proliferation of devices," Hennessy said. "We feel we are in a good position to take advantage of that because of our technology."

Ruckus Introduces SWIPE--the Smart Wireless Installation and Provisioning Engine for Smart WLANs
Sep 08, 2014 09:00:00 (ET)
Latest Addition to Portfolio of Free, Smart Wi-Fi Mobile Applications Enables Faster, Easier Remote Installation and Configuration of Ruckus Access Points Using Mobile Devices
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/-- Ruckus Wireless, Inc. (NYSE: RKUS) announced today a new, free Smart Wi-Fi mobile application, the Ruckus Smart Wireless Installation and Provisioning Engine (SWIPE(TM)), to help field technicians and IT personnel quickly and efficiently install and configure Ruckus ZoneFlex(TM) access points (APs) in distributed deployments using mobile devices such as iPhones, iPads, smartphones, and tablets.
With SWIPE, system integrators and carriers/service providers can more easily register the Ruckus APs deployed on their Wi-Fi networks onto centralized management systems such as the Ruckus SmartCell(TM) Gateway (SCG) 200 and/or Ruckus virtual SmartCell Gateway (vSCG). SWIPE updates the SCG or vSCG with data about the AP, including location specific details (e.g., pictures, location) and validates AP connectivity. SWIPE can also search for APs by name as well as by proximity and error condition.
Deploying a new AP is now as simple as scanning the barcode of the AP, entering in the AP Name, taking a picture of the installed AP, and choosing a configuration profile (AP Group) for that AP. Upon first boot up, the AP will connect with the Ruckus SCG or vSCG and automatically download the appropriate configurations.
Ruckus SWIPE makes it easier to remotely manage or troubleshoot existing APs by reducing errors in configuration and log updates, easily locating and navigating to APs in the field via GPS on popular mapping applications, and triaging problem APs by sorting on alarm severity and proximity. SWIPE can also test the performance of existing APs and store the data. Reports can then be emailed from the application and printed or reviewed elsewhere.
"Remote WLAN deployments historically have involved entering AP serial numbers into backend IT systems to facilitate DHCP Option 43, the protocol that helps APs associate with the wireless controller, and, in our case, the AP needs to have the backhaul connectivity in place before the AP can register with the SCG," said Greg Beach, vice president of product management, Ruckus Wireless. "Now, with SWIPE, smartphones, for example, can serve as a bridge between the AP and a Ruckus SCG to facilitate the AP turn up, even when the backhaul isn't in place, and without having to use DHCP Option 43-like processes. It's a great time saver that eliminates time-consuming and inefficient second truck rolls to validate installations."
With SWIPE, technicians don't have to drive to and from sites looking for APs, as it offers the ability to sort APs by proximity, highest standing alarm, and by name, allowing technicians to visualize APs on a map, and get driving directions to where each AP is installed. SWIPE also enables technicians to take a picture of each as-built AP, and perform a Speedtest of each AP to validate good coverage.
SWIPE also helps eliminate the inefficient and error prone process of manually updating backend systems with AP serial number, MAC addresses, location, IP address, etc. using a notepad, email or phone. SWIPE users can simply email information such as serial numbers, MAC addresses, AP model numbers, firmware version, location (Latitude/Longitude), as-built pictures, etc.
Smart Wi-Fi Mobile Applications for an Increasingly Mobile World
Ruckus SWIPE is the newest mobile management application within a unique suite of Ruckus designed and developed mobile tools developed by Ruckus Wireless to help save time and increase productivity and efficiency. These include: Ruckus ZD (ZoneDirector(TM)) Remote Control, S.W.A.T.(TM) (SpeedFlex(TM) Wireless Assessment Tool), SpeedFlex, and Zapper(TM); real-time wireless assessment and performance testing tools that greatly assist system integrators, value-added resellers (VARs), network administrators, and carriers/service providers in validating the performance of their existing WLAN installations, and assist in the planning and maintenance of new site deployments. Together, these mobile applications give administrators more flexible control and management over their wireless infrastructure with a much more complete picture of expected and actual performance, so they can adequately plan for and handle worst-case scenarios, as well as conduct site surveys and wireless LAN (WLAN) performance tests, more effectively deploy APs, and troubleshoot problems with and remotely monitor their Ruckus Smart WLAN environments.
Availability
Ruckus SWIPE is now available free of charge, both for Apple iPads and iPhones (requires iOS 7 or later) via the Apple iTunes App Store, and for Android smartphones and tablets via the Google Play store. A complete Ruckus Wireless Product Guide, complete with online video content, is also available via Apple iTunes and Google Play.
Ruckus Wireless is demonstrating SWIPE at its booth (#3420) during Super Mobility Week powered by CTIA, being held September 9-11 at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV.

San Fran Taps Ruckus to Unwire its Outdoors
SARAH REEDY, Senior Editor
12/16/2013
The City of San Francisco isn't waiting for cable or wireless operators to bring WiFi to its corridors. Instead, it is teaming up with Ruckus Wireless to start the process on its own.
Carrier WiFi specialist Ruckus Wireless Inc. (NYSE: RKUS) announced Monday that it has partnered with the City and County of San Francisco to bring free public WiFi access up and down the busy Market Street corridor, from the intersection of Market and Castro down to the Ferry building and eventually all the way through San Francisco's Embarcadero. This is one of the first steps in the city's plan to blanket the city in WiFi.
According to San Francisco CIO Marc Touitou, Ruckus is providing the City with 170 to 200 access points (APs), free of charge, a donation worth around $700,000. It will mount the 802.11n APs on traffic poles with fiber backbone connections providing dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz service to visitors. In areas where the fiber can't reach, Ruckus' SmartMesh Networking technology is being used to provide wireless connections between the APs.
WiFi in The City by the Bay
San Francisco's famous Market Street will get WiFi first, but the Ruckus access points will be painted green to better blend in.
This isn't San Francisco's first WiFi initiative. According to Devicescape Software Inc. , 47% of San Franciscan businesses offer free WiFi, making it one of the most accessible cities, and 46% of the city's top 100 attractions already have WiFi available. The City also has a deal in place with Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) to equip 31 of its parks with connectivity, but Touitou says the City hasn't yet picked its vendors for that project yet. (See WiFi Wars: San Fran Trumps NYC.)
On Market street, WiFi is being offered free of charge -- Toutiou says the aim is not to make money from the service. But he did hint at future services that go beyond public access. And he's open to letting the wireless operators tap into his network, rather than vice versa. He told Light Reading that one option he's exploring is letting wireless operators use San Francisco's WiFi network for their own offload. But, he stressed, the city hasn't reached a conclusion yet.
"It would help them alleviate the problem of capacity, and they are willing to put money in the bucket to help cities deploy infrastructure," he said. "But, right now, we're leveraging our city to deploy this."
Public-private partnerships for WiFi haven't always worked out in the past, but Toutiou is confident this one will in San Francisco, where the residents tend to be technologically savvy and value connectivity. He said the support from Ruckus's top-level executives has made a big difference, as has the City's commitment to building a collaborative, connected city.
"Earthlink is an example of stuff we don't want to do," he said, referring to the ISP's failed muni-WiFi project in Philadelphia in 2008. "There is a smart business model between cities and the private sector where we can help each other."

Mountain View rolls out new free wireless service
Mountain View has rolled out new free wireless service at City Hall and the public library.
The service replaces one that hasn't been working well for a while, said IT manager Steve Rodriguez.
"We want to make sure that Mountain View residents can access reliable Internet service when they're in these buildings, so we have upgraded our Wi-Fi services there," said Rodriguez.
Sunnyvale-based Ruckus Wireless is providing the service and equipment. Users should experience better and faster connections with less interference and less traffic even when using devices in an area that is saturated with wireless clients.
City Manager Dan Rich said the free wireless service will spread to other public facilities.
"This is just the beginning of making Wi-Fi more accessible in Mountain View -- we hope to have additional network improvements on other city properties, and we continue to work with Google toward an overhaul of their local Wi-Fi," said Rich.
For more information about the free wireless service, visit http://www.mountainview.gov/cmvwifi.

ACCESSING THE SERVICE
• Open your device's connection manager
• Connect to the network named "cmvwifi"
• When you're connected to the network, you will have to accept the city's terms of usage by clicking or tapping the accept button that pops up
• You can then open your Internet browser and use as normal.
Only thing here that makes me scratch my head...

IF they close it before the bell that would be a nice place to grab 1,000 shares Other than the insiders selling over the past several months the only other negative I can see is IF they announce a public offering at earnings for some reason. Otherwise this should be moving up going forward IMO
Worry about the GAP today but I was usually wrong :)
Gonna grab 1,000 shares at the close...let's see what happens
Check that...flipped them for $12.96 lol
WTF? Where is everyone today??? What are we thinking here fellas? Has it run into earnings only to dump in AH?
Playing with 2500 shares picked up at $12.82 today

The SmartCell Gateway (SCG) 200 represents the first in a new category of scalable and versatile WLAN controllers with support for 3GPP compatible WLAN gateway functionality. It has been designed to eliminate the difficulties operators are experiencing with building and managing large-scale Wi-Fi RANs and integrating them into the mobile packet core. The latter is required for a truly scalable heterogeneous network (HetNet) deployment. Capabilities include:
The SCG-200 offers one of the industry's most scalable WLAN controller architectures, through a unique, dynamically scalable clustering model that maintains carrier-class availability and resiliency through N+1 redundancy and hot-swappable components. An SCG-200 cluster can support tens of thousands of Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi APs and hundreds of thousands of concurrent Wi-Fi subscribers, with an aggregate throughput of 20Gbps per 2RU's of rack space. The SCG's carrier-class element management system (EMS) can be integrated into an operator's central NMS via standard data exchange interfaces, providing feature-rich management of access points, such as RF management, load balancing, adaptive meshing and backhaul optimization.
The SCG 200 can provide Trusted WLAN Gateway functionality per 3GPP TS 23.402 (June 2012). Trusted WLAN Gateway functionality allows a Wi-Fi RAN to connect to a P-GW (or GGSN) in the mobile packet core over industry standard interfaces and using standard protocols like GTP and PMIP. This approach utilizes 802.1x/EAP for secure authentication and 802.11i for Wi-Fi airlink encryption. These protocols are supported on all smartphones, as they are required as part of the Wi-Fi Alliance's WPA2®-certification program. The SCG 200 can also directly interface with mobile packet core AAA or HLR/HSS systems for client authentication and policy setting.
The SCG 200 can also offload traffic directly to the Internet. This would usually be the case when the traffic is not SIM-based, and would not benefit from being backhauled to the mobile packet core. Examples here include tablets and laptops, which in most cases do not have cellular modems. Local breakout requires that selected services be performed at the SCG 200, most of which would normally be provided in the mobile packet core.
The SCG 200 provides an integrated carrier-class element management system (EMS) that can be used for rapid deployment and eliminates the need for separate and expensive management systems. The built-in EMS provides user-friendly full-fledged FCAPS support and can be easily integrated with existing OSS/BSS systems via a variety of interfaces ranging from traditional SNMP or CLI based interfaces to web programming friendly secure API based methods (RESTful JSON).
Site acquisition is always an issue when deploying small cells, and this is made much easier by integrating a small cell into a Wi-Fi access point as the latter is an operator neutral solution that is preferred by most site owners. The SC 8800 can also provide wireless backhaul using Wi-Fi technology in the 5 GHz band. Other capabilities include support for AC power, power-over-Ethernet, integrated GPS receiver, integrated spectrum analysis, BeamFlex adaptive antenna technology, and much more.
A key part of the Ruckus value proposition is our BeamFlex technology with integrated antennas, which steers RF energy toward the user that it is communicating with and away from all other AP's in close proximity. This increases the gain by as much as 6 dB and the interference mitigation by as much as 15 dB. The latter is essential in most high-density deployments where interference is almost always the limiting factor.
SmartCell 8800 access points can be centrally managed from the mobile packet core using the SmartCell Gateway 200, the industry's most scalable and versatile 3GPP compatible WLAN Gateway. The SCG 200 also supports capabilities like Hotspot 2.0 which will be essential in the rollout of carrier-class Wi-Fi solutions.
