Slammed ouch!!! lost .30cents some definate profit taking for sure going on with Q especially after 4 up ticks in a row
Ms. Kitty another great day for Quest on friday wow although every time it gets to this level it goes right back down should be an interesting week for this stock and what transpires....I am thinking if it hangs on to 3.25 a share and closes the week at that, it would be good...I don't see this stock having an up week this week, there is to much up and down in the market's right now across the board for there to be a really great rally and substantial gains
its funny how ATT is trading lower the Verizon LOL??? they were once ahead...how did VZ get ahead??? there blance sheet is not as good and ATT does more in revenue and income...thats the market though for ya...some of these people on wall st. make me laugh as this makes no sense how VZ is ahead of AT&T....and its been like this for months and really the GAP has widend between the two LOL.
I wouldnt really call that mixed one company had an upday...thankfully it was the one you had Ms.Kitty, and thats all that counts in the end really...I like Sprint to thats another one thats cheap and is worth looking at here...we shall see though

Telecom companies shares mixed at the close of trading
NEW YORK (AP) --
Shares of some top telecom companies were mixed at the close of trading:
AT&T Inc fell $.40 or 1.4 percent, to $27.72.
Qwest rose $.20 or 6.5 percent, to $3.28.
Sprint Nextel fell $.05 or 2.7 percent, to $1.80.
Verizon fell $.75 or 2.2 percent, to $33.30.
Thank you, Dan. I didn't see much green today...that's for sure! It was a pleasant surprise, therefore...to have Q's PPS in the plus column!
Congrats. On Quest today Mrs.Kitty .20cent uptick on a day the market did pretty bad, this stock keeped getting stronger as the day went on, a 6.45% gain very nice, what would have this stock gone up if the market had gone up or just been flat pretty much????
Dan
thats what i have been saying about the divd. if it gets lowered or completly wiped out KABOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMM it would be just a low as ALU or maybe even a bit lower I know thats keeping the stock right now at least 25% higher is the divd. the institutions that own it are saying were getting a healthy divd. asl as the hedge funds, and thats why the stock keeps bouncing up when down there supporting it based on the high yeild of the divd.
Dan
There are a lot of people in the rural areas of the midwest and especially the upper plains who will never give up their land lines which is the one thing they have going for them, IMO.
And they have a good reputation especially their customer service.
The key selling point, however... is their dividend - it's what will attract new investors.
If they lower it...
Yikes, don't even want to go there!
well lowering there prices will help them compete with the cheaper vendors out there, if they can broaden there xustomer base it will more then make up for the lower prices....recently quest announced a layoff of 5% of its workforce...this should in the long run help...these employees will be cut before there 1st debt comes due...so they should be able to save captial.....the company also has a cash position on hand as well....Yeah inventing something would help, that can help them rival verizon and ATT, and help Quest in a new way and a new way for them to generate something different from the company rather then where most of there revenue comes from which is the landlines, yeah they could use a streaming of there portfolio and some changes to not only existing products but new ones
I read some where that what the tech companies like JAVA, LSI, etc., need is innovation i.e., something so new and different that it will set the whole industry on its ear. The same thing could be applied to the waning telecom companies like Q....
I mean they need to invent something...anything to get them going again. The world is changing daily but they're standing still. Sure they can lower their fees but what good will it do if they'll never be more than a mid-cap company with a PPS that will never exceed $10?
LoL, I follow it more then my dad....his philosphy is this is a company where no matter what if u want serive you have to pay your bill you know quest qwith the interent or phone...so in some aspect hes right, even with a tough economy people need phone and interent service.....however quest charges a lot for these services as you cann see in there latest earnings reports...and continue to suffer loses in lower sbuscription rates amoung other things....Obviously every stock will pick up with the market including this one, however they have a lot of long term debt to be repayed thats maturing within a few years, and they have to stop the landline losses and such...I dont see this stock making it back to 10 a share at all...unless something drastic happens....and it will def not get back to 10 a shre if they cout there dividend and or cancel it completly this is one of the things that is keeping the stock higher then ALU even though its not by much.....I am mixed on Quest, although 09 could be an up year for it...I think there are better plays but tis worth owning some shares if it can mantain its 0.08 divd. or only lowers it slightly....I could post more about Q anything else let me know SantaKitty be more then happy to help you to the best I can
Dan
What is your Dad's outlook for Quest?
yeah i still am here just been jumping around from board to board im usually on i-hub a lot lol......my dad owns a lot of quest i happen to own a lot of ALU...wish right now i had quest but i think ALU way down the road in sp will be hgiher someday maybe LOL
I appreciate that, Dan...
Am sending you a PM. Hope you're still here.
Ok i will try my best to post news aboutt he companys on the two boards.....there are a few things ben has blundered already that have made me raise some eyebrows about him anyways quest is doing much better at least there making some money lol, although there balance sheet is actually not as good as ALU espeically once ALU sells off its thales its worth more then 1.5billion bucks wow that will help anewyays looking forward to helping you
Dan
Hah! I have a long way to go with ALU... and Q!
No, I haven't had a chance to read Ben's report...that is, I scanned it but seems like I'm always running out of time so didn't really absorb most of it.
Sounds like you're keeping up with both companies much more than I am. Howz about you do the reading for me and then give me a condensed version from here on out. LOL
Deal?
(Anyone is better than Russo, IMO...)
u aint kidding especially for me in ALU i got along way to go on that stock did u read Ben's report on how he plans to turn ALU around??? of course invesotrs dumped it on that news and the downgrades followed i think though hes better then Russo...I never kneww quest had that much debt coming up and maturing and they had that much debt total
It was a good day all around for me... I love it when ALU and Q end green.
Howdy CXAC... One can only hope Q will keep their divy intact (yield is 10.20%).
Perhaps slashing their internet price will help them too...
From the Denver Business Journal, Tuesday, December 16, 2008 - 3:00 PM MST
Qwest Communications Inc. has slashed the monthly price of its highest-speed Internet service for new and existing customers.
The Denver-based telecom (NYSE: Q) dropped the price of its 20 megabits per-second broadband service for homes and small businesses to $59.99 monthly. The service, called Qwest Connect Quantum, had cost $99.99 a month.
New customers will be able to order the fastest Internet speed at the reduced rate. Customers who already get Qwest’s 20 mbps service will see their monthly bill cut by 40 percent, the company said.
The service is not available in all areas where Qwest offers service.
Alcatel Lucent went up better then all these companies hahaha yes even a tad more then quest spesaking of quest there keeping there dividend for another quarter at 0.08 a share payable march 6th, 2009

NEW YORK (AP) --

AT&T Inc rose $1.10 or 4.1 percent, to $28.23.
Qwest rose $.28 or 10.1 percent, to $3.05.
Sprint Nextel rose $.16 or 8.8 percent, to $1.98.
Verizon rose $1.20 or 3.7 percent, to $33.50.
Santa Nova, The Key for Quest is can they keep there Dividend like I mentioned, thats whats keeping thiss tock going, they have already missed out on the newer technolgies that ATT and Verizon are vested in and they are stuck in antoher bad thing the old landline bussiness where they continue to see adeteroratiing line of xcustomers, if you looked at there net income in each of the past qwuarters its on the decline, the Dividend is so key to this stock if this recession worsens anbd they continue to see losses in there opeartion the dicd. is toast and this stock will be one word left for it KABOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, sold immediately, because there high yeild is the only thing attrative these days, to be honest ALU has a better chance of a comeback and has a more broader protfolio and finally may be showing something with those jobs cuts they have been doign time will tell.
Santa, or Nova I see you switched Alias yeah, but now is not the time to give up on ALU, they have a big announcment coming from there new cheif Ben Verywagen who I think will turn around the company, there results beat the street this past quarter and he soldified there cash position, this meeting on Dec 12th is to till investors how he plans to get the company back to profitabil;ity, and if they can get earnings again in Feb, thats a double shot, hopefully, hopefully you come back to the ALU board, because your were one of the few people who posted there and im lonely there
CXAC...You're correct, have not posted on the ALU board for quite some time...only because I was so disappointed in their performance.
Of course, Quest hasn't done much better but I'm the eternal optimist thus keep hoping they'll come up with something that will make their PPS grow.
...sigh
As I said, I'm the eternal optimist.

Novo, you still talk about ALU have not seen you on that board since the CEO Russo was wipped out I started posted there now since I have became a memeber here good old Alcatel-Lucent, I think ALU belive it or not has a better shot to get to 10 ore this stock does....Trsut me on it
As far as Quest my dad has this one nice dividend in rought times but thats really the only thing keep this stock at these levels, if they cut it goodnight sweetheart, because they continuw to suffer landline losses, and have debt coming up thats maturing, ALU has already solidified there cash position, still though right now i'd rather have this stock then ALU simply because of the Divd, and invesotrs love to harass ALU unti lthey show good improvment, best thing for this company is to start meeting Wall St. numbers instead of barely making it or by missing it by a penny, because there net income keeps droping every quarter, anyways tech has been rough, but knwon for a quick rebound lets hope that is the case with all of them

Hi Overhead...Welcome to the board. Haven't heard any more about the Q-VZN connection but if I do, I'll be sure to post it.
The 52-week low for Q has been $3.39 while the high was $9.58. IMO, the potential for the stock to double is very possible. The big question, of course...is when.
Patience, Grasshopper.
Hi:
I am a newcomer and I picked up some Q at 4.01 today. Is this the bottom, or the pps has gone below 4.00? Find any more details about the Q-VZN connection? Thanks.

Qwest launches effort to switch customers to Verizon Wireless
Phoenix Business Journal - by Patrick O'Grady
Thursday, July 31, 2008
Qwest Communications International Inc. is putting its efforts behind Verizon Wireless as it rolls out the company's products after dumping Sprint Nextel Corp.
The Denver-based company is offering Verizon products at is kiosk locations and through its bundle packages for residents and businesses. Neither company would disclose financial details of the five-year agreement.
Qwest (NYSE:Q) will look at switching more than 900,000 wireless customers over the coming months, in some cases by offering incentives. Customers who have Sprint through bundled services will not have to do anything in the early part of the switch.
To facilitate the switch with current customers, Qwest will waive early termination fees for its customers looking to switch. Residents with Qwest and Verizon now can have the packages bundled and receive one bill beginning this fall.
