$WIZD DD Notes ~ http://www.ddnotesmaker.com/WIZD
My mythical short position? It's doing great from $100. Thanks for asking.
How is your short position doing?
What's the saturation point of the expanded comic con schedule? WIZD looks cheap annualizing Q1 numbers which seems possible given the schedule of 4 events/quarter. It looks even cheaper if you assume similar profitability on 2015's slate of 23+ events. Historically only a few cities have been profitable (Chicago, Philly) and the losses from the rest have more than offset those gains, but Q1 results hinted at improvement. A more aggressive schedule amplifies the risks (untested/smaller markets, less ideal seasonal dates, cannibalization of existing markets) but also allows the company to sign bigger names, form larger media partnerships, attract more national vendors, advertise nationally, etc.
I just wonder, beyond the next few quarters, how many of these events can individual markets support? For example, Wizard is adding Indianapolis next year. There are already four other cons announced next year for the same venue alone (Indiana Comic Con, Indiana PopCon, Awesome Con, Gen Con), and plenty more in neighboring cities. This is the case in many of the cities Wizard is expanding into. Wizard may have advantages over all of them as the only national player, but that's still a lot of competition at a single venue in a smaller market. Is the demand for these events increasing a rate high enough to support all of these? If so, is it sustainable? If not, can Wizard use their greater financial and marketing resources to effectively supplant the established local event sponsors -- profitably?
Although I've done some due diligence, I'm admittedly not in tune with the trends of popular culture. I see the potential for a trade on the next couple quarters' results, but I'm not yet comfortable on the longer term thesis. Thoughts appreciated.
Actually I just happened to see the groping incident on the front page of Yahoo and it reminded me of WIZD.
I doubt this $27 million market cap company is affected much by this dead board, unless I can personally convince you to sell.
Maybe I have it all wrong -- maybe comic cons will see record attendance everywhere as new geeks flock there hoping to get some good groping in. What a better opportunity to do so. What is the police sketch artist going to do -- draw a picture of Spider-Man?
LOL...you again?! You never posted on this board until yesterday, and now you're back to help us poor, misguided longs for a second day. Thanks!
If I were cynical I might think you were attempting to bring the stock down a bit to create a better entry point for yourself. Seemed to work today...down 8% on a big $6500 worth of trading...congrats!
Don't let it fall too low though, I'd add to my six-figure position at prices very near current levels.
WiZD takes a dramatic nosedive. I guess the market figured out that 13,000 groped-by-geeks women at one comic con isn't exactly a strong selling point for future comic cons no matter who is running it.
Watch the ticket sales plummet for WIZD. If you think you think the over 13,000 women who were groped was an anomaly to the level of a single Burger King having a single burger with a single rat's tail, then I have a $0.07 buyout to sell you.
If there were over 13,000 rat tails found in the hamburgers of a San Diego McDonald's franchise, then yes, the public will think twice before attending a McDonald's in Maine.
There's a negative public perception about what's going on at Comic-con and women who normally attend these things in skimpy clothing will not be.
Especially not young women whose parents won't let them. It's laughable to compare a one-time single incident at Burger King to WIDESPREAD vast groping across the entire spectrum of the female population at a comic-con.
This is hysterical -- I said, "LOL, I hate to "wizz" on your analytical skills but that makes zero sense whatsoever."
I stand by that statement. 100% fact is irrelevant to horrible analysis.
that makes zero sense whatsoever...100% fact actually
As I said (and all I said) was that WIZD doesn't run the San Diego Comic-Con. They have no interest in it whatsoever.
If you want to hypothesize a scenario where people stop eating at McDonalds cause someone found a rat tail in their Whopper at Burger King, be my guest. As someone once said, that makes zero sense whatsoever...
Yeah, I'm sure women will take great comfort in knowing that WIZD didn't host the largest Comic-Con event in the world so the smaller events no doubt will be filled with nothing but perfect gentlemen.
ROFL!!!!
Try explaining that laughable nonsense to women who hear about this shockingly bad publicity or to the 13,428 women who got groped in San Diego. I'm sure they can't wait for the WIZD's events.
I think the odds of them passing the good word for WIZD's events are about the same as a $0.07 buyout.
"According to the Daily Mail, a new survey has revealed that 25 percent of women who attend Comic-Con complain about being sexually harassed. These fans have added that they have to endure being on the receiving end of crude comments, while others have added that they’re groped and leered at on a constant basis too. Some have even added that perverted fans have tried to take up-skirt photos too."
"San Diego’s Comic-Con is the largest gathering of its kind in the world"
LOL, I hate to "wizz" on your analytical skills but that makes zero sense whatsoever. The San Diego event already happened so it doesn't matter who ran it. I certainly didn't say, nor imply, a pass event would magically have ticket sales evaporate.
The perception of these things in general -- not the one event that already happened -- is bad publicity. With nearly half of the one who attend being women, many women will think twice before attending future events since they don't like to get groped. The percentage of women who reported being harassed by geeks is off the scale shocking.
Anybody who thinks women getting fondled at the largest Comic Con event in the country means those same women just can't wait until the smaller ones hosted by WIDZ then I have a Spider-man costume to sell you.
Hate to "wizz" on your DD skills, but WIZD doesn't run the San Diego Comic-Con...
