PS I just wish that you would allow allow ALL OPINIONS here, not just the ones that you agree with.
I asked for your opinion! Where are the markets going? You never gave me an answer. It is easy to find fault......
Everyone on this board reads SI and you are adding nothing here by reposting what is on the other board.
dealie
I agree with you.........dealie
?? I have no idea! Was hoping other would comment.

Hi again Dealer,

The expedited meeting, today's rally/sell-off...Does this mean no cut or are they waiting for more data tomorrow and Friday?

Hi Dealer,
"Houses downgrade after they have a nice short position"
This is clearly the case. I was reading "The Room that Rocks Crew" thread on SI a couple of weeks ago when "Susieq1065" posted at 2:30 that "JDSU is dropping like a rock." The next morning before the bell Susieq1065 posts "SSB downgrades JDSU"....
BG
This doesn't sound good for Rambus fans. Is it news or an old story rehashed.

Nasdaq futures up 16.50. Jdsu and Nortel trading higher on the TSE. We may retrace the gap. Various cycles are coinciding for early March. Greenspan didn't want this to happen on his watch. Waiting for Greenspan.

Hi Lily - re: your query on margin call & your covered call strategy - here is my 2cents worth. I will sell the stock - not cover via covered calls. With the cc , you are just prolonging what could be a more severe disaster. If the market still is on a downturn of which i think it is, then the value of your stock is dwindling down. Time could eventually creep up when the value of your stock will not be enough for overall maintenance of your portfolio. OTOH, if you sell, you are out of margin at the same time, have some $$ to re-buy of you so choose. Again, this is my 2cents worth.
Big Game,
<<in this market it's not likely you'll be called...>>
In this market, if you pocket the premium and get the stock called, you've probably done better than holding on. One of my biggest psychological hurdles has been getting past the "fear" of having my underlying shares called out. In a severe bear market, if I get premium and share price doesn't plummet, I've won.
jpgill
In this environment it looks like the best thing to do is trade the calls...sell them, buy them back, sell them, buy them back...each time you sell them you get the premium and then a good chance to buy to cover...in this market it's not likely you'll be called....we just have to wait this out and hope Greenspan is aggressive...consumer confidence tomorrow...
<<Keith, I think Gilder is the guest on Wall Street Week...maybe he will say something "visionary" about the fiber optics area...>>
Wont hurt my feelings <ggg>
Dealer...thanks that would be great. Put me on your list.
Good job LL!
There is a brokerage firm that does not issue margin calls. I can't remember the name. I hope someone else knows who it is. All I can think of is A.B. Watley but I think it was someone else. It would be worth all the trouble not to have to face a margin call. These stocks are just bouncing off the lower channel...if you are an investor you can sweat it...we're all young, right...we've got time and we know these stocks aren't going away....
BG
You're welcome.I hope it helps you avoid the grip of the dreaded margin police. That truly must be the pits. Good luck!

Every once in a while SI gives FREE memberships and if they do it again I will try to come over and get you guys/gals. We should be able to cough up a few when that happens. They just gave some so I don't know how long it will be before they do it again.
Thanks for being here.
dealie
Hi Dealer,
You're always so gracious, thanks. I've lurked the SI porch
for awhile but refuse to cough up 200 bucks to post :)
I have some of Voltaire's classic posts printed out(and that
one was definitely a classic <g>
laf
Thanks laf! There was no way for me to dig that up. You lurkers have your own thing going over here. That is great.....keep it up. Never realized this would be a good hangout for the lurkers while waiting on the rest of us.
Thanks again for being here.

Hi LL
V's margin call strategy

Hope this helps.
Good Luck.
laf
I think Voltaire would buy them back and sell 2 or 3 months out????? I can't buy/sell at the same time. I think he does.
dealie
Sorry for the late reply! I am not watching this board on a regular basis.
I don't remember us having that ear marked.
If you are in stock it involved selling covered calls to come up with the money.
Wish I could help but I am not able.
dealie
Keith, I think Gilder is the guest on Wall Street Week...maybe he will say something "visionary" about the fiber optics area...
LL,

dealer I'm looking for voltaire's advice on how go get out of a margin call. do you have it bookmarked on the SI Porch.
TIA
LL
Thanks for the insight. I allways enjoy your posts over at SI. Take care and lets pray this market returns to an upward trend.
BTW, hope all the SI folks check in over here from time to time to check in on us lurkers. I most certainly am reluctant to buy a membership over there now that their future is questionable. Lot of good folks over there. Been lurking fo about a year now. Feel like I know'm personally. Let of Texans as well (self included).
Take Care.
Hi dealie, INSP in the news on Bigcharts again. The response here is improving. tim
RE: IARC
Well, I can't say the market this year has been kind to anything tech...especially the dot.bombs. Although IARC is not a dot.bomb, they were adversely effected several ways this year. First, when msft, csco, sunw and etc, are getting beaten, there isnt going to be much money thrown at the speculative plays such as Iarc. Next, although IARC is not a dot.com company, they were hurt by the fallout of the dot.bombs. A bulk of their revenue comes from the dot.com world, and we know what happened to the dot.coms....many quit spending and many no longer exist. Additionally, many dot.coms still do exist but are not paying their bills. I won;t mention any names, but IARC has done work they have not, and will probably never get paid for, with or without litigation.
Next, from the rumor mill, I hear there is alot of discontent at IARC over many different things. From what I gather, mid level folks are losing faith in the higher up management team, and some of the higher management team supposedly isn't too happy at present either. Mind you, these are all rumors, but seem to have some merit in my opinion.
Lastly, in looking more deeply at their main product(s), I am not nearly as excited as I was over a year ago. In my opinion, IARC did not act quick enough and now their supposedly wonderful product, is not so unique anymore. Anyway, I have soured on the company for many reasons...some as I stated above. With this in mind, I have no idea what the stock price will do...heck, I have seen serious crap make some nice moves and seen awesome quality get smacked upside the head, so in this market, there just is no telling what the stock itself will do.
Anyway, I wish I could tell you more....I know they are having troubles, but also know they are still trying. I personally have soured on the company and it's management and have doubts as to what the future may hold for this little company that coulda been something had they played their cards right. With all that said, I have no idea if the stock jumps back to $30 or goes down to .05 cents......
Happy trading
Thanks Dealer for passing my message over to the SI Board. I didn't expect that, but do appreciate it. Your the best!
Keith, re: IARC.
Can you provide an update of what you know on IARC? I believe it was you who had mentioned it last year and remember you were really high on it.
TIA
Hi Lilly! Welcome to the "Maybe Someday" porch. It is nice that the lurkers can post over here.
Believe me we are all learning. I learn several new things a day seems like.
Sorry you picked such a bad time (market wise) to begin to learn. Believe me things are rough on everyone right now. Just be careful, things will turn around eventually, they have to because the world is not coming to an end, hopefully.
Again "welcome" and thanks for the kind words.
dealie
Haven't been involved with the market for long but have been
reading and studying all thats been said and I sure do hope that SI doesn't shut down. Altho I'm not a member of SI I do follow the porch religously. Thank you for all you do Dealer.
Welcome qcount! This site is pretty interesting....speed sure picked up......does make a nice bomb shelter.
dealie
Hi, Dealer -
Hope you've got room in this bomb shelter for another Texan - been enjoyin' your ol' porch on SI, learnin and lurkin. Enjoy G & K stocks and all those shiny pebbles. Thanks for all you do,

Nothing like having a Bomb Shelter just in case.
deallie

Hi Donnie
It sure is hard being a 'lurker' on SI Porch
Many times I wanted to but in with my 2 cents, but couldn't.
I bot some of that brcm and sold calls against it.
Give naz a pat for me :o)
love,
cowgirl
Ah...The smell of new paint...
Nice porch you have here...
-Clappy
Howdy Scott!
I've been keepin' an eye on the Porch, even though I couldn't post there :o)
All ok here, critters fine.
I'm still writing CCs on long positions, though I have fewer of those now <ggg> Doing more position trading, ala RR but with stocks not options. Trying to take advantage of that volatility.
love,
cowgirl
Nice bomb shelter you've got here, Dealie. I've erected ones for both the G&K and Mudge threads. But SI is still home until they decide to evict us or the neighborhood goes to hell, which is very possible without adequate administrative presence.
