Michael Flynn seeks immunity from prosecution in exchange for appearing at Senate Intel Committee.

What an idiot!
Every inmate who leaves a Big Apple jail after serving a sentence will have a job waiting for him or her, under a new city-funded initiative, Mayor de Blasio announced Wednesday.
When asked why ex-convicts were being guaranteed work over unemployed residents who haven’t broken the law — including city high-school and college graduates — Hizzoner insisted the initiative, which will cost taxpayers $10 million a year, is a “smart investment for everyone.”
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/03/30/de-blasio-wants-to-employ-every-ex-con-who-has-served-jail-time.html
Bad for America
During a recent exchange on CBS Sunday Morning, ancient newsreader Ted Koppel called Fox News pundit Sean Hannity “bad for America.” To be fair to Koppel, he was making a broader point about the sometimes-ugly divisiveness that has largely replaced journalism. “I think you and all these opinion shows … have attracted people who are determined that ideology is more important than facts.” However, to be fair to Hannity, Koppel is, as Hannity put it, “selling the American people short.”
Guys like Hannity make no effort to hide their role as opinion-based commentators. It’s Koppel’s inheritors in the corporate media, who insist on presenting opinions as facts, who do the most damage. And when you realize that it’s seldom their own opinion, but one dictated by someone to the political left of Trotsky, then you realize the real bad guys are the ones behind what we have come to know as “fake news.”
Some people truly are “bad for America.” To benefit the Ted Koppels of the world, here’s a list of some of the more noteworthy offenders:
Senator Chuck Schumer
In 2006 Senator Schumer examined the resume of a federal bench nominee named Neil Gorsuch. So impressed was the future Senate Minority Leader with Gorsuch’s bona fides, he joined all of his fellow Senators in a unanimous confirmation vote. According to Schumer v.2017, Schumer v.2006 was an idiot. Chuckie is now leading the Senate minority — a number of whom joined him in the Gorsuch thumbs-up in 2006 — on a mission to block Gorsuch’s bid to join the Supreme Court. The Democrats scored a big win with the failure of “Trump-RyanCare.” Schumer is going to give it all back, just to vote “no.”
Senator Elizabeth Warren
(Cue war drums and baleful flute) Many moons ago, proud Cherokee live in harmony with spirit of wolf and sky. Then paleface come with thunderstick and wheel and take many buffalo from people-of-high-cheekbones. Spirit walker say one day, Princess Fauxcahontas will play both sides for saps; and make heap big wampum without lifting a feather.
Rep. Keith Ellison
This cat came within a few votes of being Chair-jihadi of the Democrat Party. During his career, Ellison has shilled for Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam, Hamas, CAIR, Assata Shakur and even Fidel Castro. Ellison’s ascension normalizes all the worst things Islam does to people in the name of religion. For a party which opposes little kids bowing their heads in prayer before homeroom, the Democrats’ acceptance of Ellison makes as much sense as Farrakhan’s belief that white people are the result of a science experiment gone awry.
New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio
Any mayor of any “sanctuary city” deserves a place here; since DeBlasio is the mayor of the biggest one, he gets top billing. This doesn’t need to be complicated. Harboring criminals is a crime. Harboring criminals and then telling the police to get bent is obviously worse. Amnesty advocates are fond of claiming their motives are purely humanitarian. Every time I hear about another Kate Steinle, or “Rockville Rape,” I’m reminded how their idea of “humanitarian” doesn’t include the humans who are here legally.
Barack Obama
Trump’s predecessor hasn’t been as visible as I thought he might be in his retirement; which I suspect is motivated by the same instincts that propelled Kennedys to leave the scenes of accidents. From Obamacare to ISIS to illegal aliens, Obama’s presidency set our country back in nearly every societal aspect. In 1980, Ronald Reagan asked America if we were better off than we were before Jimmy Carter’s regime. No one needs to ask that about Obama; the answer took the oath of office in January. Let’s hope he follows the tradition of “not undercutting the new guy.” The new guy has enough on his plate, cleaning up Obama’s messes.
Senator Al Franken
He isn’t funny. He has never been funny. He’s just weird, and not in a “kooky stand-up comedian” way, but in a “lingers a little too long near the women’s dressing room in the mall” way. His cross-examination of Gorsuch was so bizarre, it convinced me that the people of Minnesota elected him to the Senate just to keep him out of Minnesota. Buffoons like Franken, or former governor Jesse Ventura, drag the political process across the line from silly to stupid. Read a book, Al; and not one you “wrote.”
Cecile Richards
Nosferatu with a $1,000 haircut, Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards probably commands the highest body count on this list. When she’s not pretending her human charnel houses actually perform mammograms and other non-abortion related services, she’s pushing “Shout your abortion” t-shirts as this season’s must-have accessory for the feminist-on-the-go. And thanks to her non-stop politicking, not only do we all subsidize her baby parts racket, we subsidize her close to $1 million annual salary. That’s a lot of cheddar to make life as cheap as livestock.
Al Gore
So what if his doom’n’gloom predictions make Chicken Little look like the Oracle at Delphi? What’s important is that Tipper’s ex-husband cares. He cares so much, he has willingly sacrificed his time, his effort and a good bit of our patience pushing the dumbest pseudo-scientific claptrap since not long after he “invented” the internet. He cares so much that he has banked northwards of $500 million peddling his inconvenient slide show. And he needs it; you can’t heat/cool those beachfront palaces with Chernobyl-sized carbon footprints with caring.
Michael Moore
He’s a war profiteer who makes anti-war movies. He goes to $3,000+/week weight loss clinics while claiming Cuba’s healthcare system is better than ours. He claims to care about the poor, but he shuttles between nine palaces on the wings of an eight-figure fortune. How has this guy managed to hang around this long? Not that his message doesn’t resonate with the low forehead set — it clearly does. I’m just curious how a dude who looks like a Dali impression of Peter Griffin hasn’t pulled the cardiovascular ace of spades.
George Soros
If the left is the Empire in Star Wars, this creepy old billionaire is Emperor Palpatine. Between his own direct largesse and his Open Society Foundation, Soros’ tentacles have reached into virtually every left wing hate group’s office and Democrat politician’s pocket. Remember when thugs started showing up at Republican events and gleefully assaulting people? Quite a few were there on a Soros scholarship. Unregulated money in politics can be a problem; Soros is a walking example of why.
Shannon Watts
Even vultures have enough decency to wait until the survivors clear the scene. Ms. Watts, who swings the hammer for “Moms Demand Action,” one of billionaire Mike Bloomberg’s anti-liberty hate groups, has neatly positioned herself as the only person who seems to exploit tragedy faster than those lawyers who advertise on bus stop benches. She can be counted on for two things:
•Blaming guns for the acts of people.
•Knowing as much about guns as I do about needlepoint.
In Ms. Watts’ utopia, AR-15s with “high capacity clips (sic)”, silencers (sic) and special armor-piercing bullets only exist in movies; which, coincidentally, is where Ms. Watts learned most of what she knows about guns. Actually, in Ms. Watts’ utopia, only the government is allowed to have guns. That utopia existed. We knew it as the Soviet Union. Our British cousins have made private ownership of guns exceedingly difficult. ISIS seems to appreciate it. In my utopia, I get a fighting chance. I’ll take it.
Chelsea Clinton
Her mom is yesterday’s news, and the Democrat Party needs another Clinton like Michael Moore needs another cheeseburger. Nonetheless, here’s Chelsea, whose public profile appears to be rising in direct proportion to her parents’ fade. She’s working for NBC News! She “writing” a children’s book! She’s making a speech on “women’s” rights! She’s even receiving a “lifetime achievement award!” Her name might as well be “Thanks, Mom!” To be fair, the people around her as much to blame for continually teeing it up for the poor girl as she is for continually swinging and missing. Stop trying to be a thing, Chelsea. You’re not Ivanka Trump.
Leonardo DiCaprio
Leo’s the big name right now, but he’s an avatar for every one of the low-info, big-microphone blowhards who charge us the cost of a decent-sized meal to see them duke it out with a CGI baddie and then throw in the political lecture for free. You need to get your pie hole wedged pretty far up your own blowhole to take private jets to and from global warming conferences; almost as far as you do to complain about the plight of the poor while wearing an outfit that cost more than a mid-sized country’s GDP. You’re a Kardashian with an Oscar, Leo. Go date another supermodel.
Bill Clinton
When the president of the United States fixed the camera with that crooked mug and claimed “it depends on what the meaning of ‘is’ is,” the whole nation took a step towards the Jerry Springer-esque idiocracy many fear is our ultimate American fate.
Hillary Clinton
She very nearly tore the world apart as Secretary of State, and she followed it up with one of the ugliest presidential campaigns in American history. She risked the domestic tranquility because she just couldn’t get it through her occasionally-wracked-by-seizures head that people just don’t like her. Don’t go away mad, Nana. Just go away.
Bill Maher
Flip on HBO in between Game of Thrones and Lena Dunham making a fool of herself to catch Bill’s gabfest lowering the national IQ. If you missed it, here’s how it went:
Bill: “Everyone to the right of Obama is an idiot.”
Token conservative guest: “Umm”
Shrieking liberals who comprise rest of panel: “Racism!”
It’s not TV, it’s HBO. It may be HBO, but it’s not good.
Rep. Nancy Pelosi
I’m not sure the woman who oversaw the Democrats’ decline from “unstoppable political machine” to “oh, is she still here?” really has the juice to make this list. After all, it’s a list of people who are bad for America. When it comes to Democratic electoral success, she’s the ultimate bad luck charm. You do you, girl.
Amy Schumer
Oh look, the cute girl with the baby fat is talking about her vagina. That’s “feminism?”
Lena Dunham
I’d rather listen to Schumer talking about her vagina.

Fights erupt at pro-Trump rally on California beach
https://www.yahoo.com/news/fights-erupt-pro-trump-rally-california-002525160.html
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (Reuters) - Supporters of President Donald Trump holding a rally on a popular southern California beach clashed with counter-protesters on Saturday and four people were arrested, law enforcement said.
Multiple fights broke out and at least one Trump supporter was doused with pepper spray when pro-Trump demonstrators marching along Bolsa Chica State Beach encountered a small group opposed to the Republican president who had gathered to denounce the rally.
Four counter-protesters were arrested, three for illegal use of pepper spray and one for assault and battery, Kevin Pearsall, a spokesman for the California State Parks Police said on Saturday evening.
The fights appeared to start in the early afternoon when around a dozen anti-Trump protesters dressed in all black refused to move from a bike path to allow a larger group of pro-Trump supporters taking part in the Make America Great Again rally to pass. The confrontation escalated into a fight with more skirmishes quickly breaking out.
At least one person was pepper-sprayed by an anti-Trump protester, Pearsall said. Park police estimated that 2,000 Trump supporters flocked to the stretch of coastline located south of the ocean-side community of Huntington Beach. Around 20 counter-protesters attended, Pearsall said.
Known as Surf City, U.S.A., Huntington Beach is located some 40 miles (64 km) south of Los Angeles.
Video footage from social media uploaded to the Los Angeles Times' website showed a chaotic scene with men fighting in the sand and a group of around 20 Trump supporters, some carrying Trump flags, chasing a man in a black mask away from the beach and on to a freeway. The man was stopped by members of the California Highway Patrol, the newspaper said.
The masked man had used pepper spray on a female rally organizer and was set upon by a group of Trump supporters, the newspaper reported.
Demonstrations denouncing the Trump administration have drawn hundreds of thousands since he took office in January. Smaller rallies have been staged across the country in support of Trump.
On Saturday, Trump praised his supporters.
"Thanks you for all of the Trump Rallies today. Amazing support. We will all MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" He said in a message on Twitter

North Carolina Just Forced All Welfare Recipients To Get Drug Tested – Here Are The Results:
Today, there are too many welfare leeches, and more jump on the bandwagon daily. At the beginning of 2016, North Carolina called for drug tests — and the results are in!
The results of the drug tests revealed that of 89 people who were picked for the test, 21 tested hot with drugs in their system. Considering the multitude of drug-loving liberals who exist today, we’re not shocked.
North Carolina Just Forced All Welfare Recipients To Get Drug Tested – Here Are The Results:
This result led to these individuals being removed and barred from the welfare program and made to pay the testing fee of $55.
However, this does not include the 70 other people who were called in who did not show up for the drug test at all. No doubt they knew they wouldn’t pass. These no-shows were also barred from receiving benefits.
Because of the large number of those who failed or did not show up, the state of North Carolina is requiring ALL those wishing to apply for the Work First program be tested for drugs. This requirement seems to be common sense and SHOULD be done in every state.
The Work First program aids lower incomes families with children and the care those children require. Adults who apply for the benefits of this program must be able to meet the work requirements involved.
Many people, most of them liberals, are complaining about the testing, claiming it is a waste of money. We disagree. This testing removes drug users from the welfare system, something that should be praised and implemented across the board.
These addicts are using government money to go out and buy drugs, and THAT is the waste.
Welfare should be used as a method to feed your family and pay your rent if you can’t make ends meet, not for supporting a drug habit. Taxpayers’ money should not be used to support the buying and selling of cocaine or other drugs — period.
This is why the American people are suffering. Those who are legitimately in need of welfare are unable to get on it because of the lazy deadbeats who would rather get high than go to work. And the American people are sick and tired of supporting these lowlifes.
If you need to be on welfare, that’s fine. The minute you don’t, you take yourself off and let another person take your place. However, if you’re in that situation because you blew all your money on drugs, then enroll yourself in a rehabilitation center and straighten up your life — don’t waste OUR money!
I wish this drug test system was in place everywhere in the country, not just in North Carolina. Welfare shouldn’t be a thing that is easy to get on and stay on — it should be a closely monitored system, and abusers should be punished.
People in this country are so dedicated to staying on welfare and committing their lives to doing the absolute bare minimum. It’s sad. If they put some of that dedication to leeching off our money into something productive, they could achieve great things.
The government doesn’t “owe” anyone anything, and the victim mentality of the left needs to stop once and for all.
The American people are so sick of liberals and their “poor me” logic. The point of welfare is not to have millions of people on it — it’s only for those who truly NEED it. The lazy left needs to get a grip, get themselves jobs, and stop wasting money!

WHY ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT CRIMINALS ARE BEGGING TO GO TO RIKERS ISLAND
Federal agents trying to deport illegal-immigrant criminals are hitting a new roadblock in New York City — crafty defense lawyers who will put their clients in jail to keep them in the country, The Post has learned.
A Legal Aid lawyer took the extreme measure in The Bronx Thursday, when she claimed an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent was waiting for her client and begged a judge to lock up the suspect.
The rookie judge — a Mayor de Blasio appointee — complied, setting $3,000 bail even though the defendant had been free for the six months since his arrest.
“I can’t believe this — every day Legal Aid is asking for no bail” for their clients, one insider told The Post.
“And now they’re asking for bail because even going to Rikers is better than being deported.”
Lawyers are also advising clients not to post even the lowest of bails so that they’ll go to Rikers Island rather than into the waiting arms of ICE agents, sources said.
The city last year evicted ICE from its offices at the jail as part of de Blasio’s “Sanctuary City” reforms — and no longer turn over many criminals who have detainer requests.
Hizzoner’s stance has led defense lawyers to ask judges to sentence their clients to just under a year in jail, so that they’ll remain in city custody rather than go into the state prison system.
“It’s a shame, to go that far to protect someone,” one federal source complained.
“It’s like a new cat-and-mouse game, when you’re an immigration officer looking for someone. It’s a new tactic to work against the federal government, when all these officers are doing is enforcing the laws set by Congress. It’s a shame.”
In Thursday’s case, illegal immigrant Luis Mercado, 29, arrived for his scheduled date at Bronx Criminal Court only to find ICE agents waiting for him.
Mercado, of The Bronx’s Belmont neighborhood, had been arrested three times for what he himself termed “fishing” envelopes out of nearby mailboxes using rodent glue traps and string, according to a criminal complaint.
“I was fishing in the mailbox,” Mercado told cops when he was arrested Oct. 9, court papers say.
“The money order I had on me came from that mailbox,” he allegedly admitted that night.
Thursday was his eighth court appearance since then.
But this time, his lawyer said ICE was waiting. A source said he was wanted for failing to appear in an immigration court in Texas, according to a source.
Mercado’s Legal Aid lawyer, Elana Silberman, asked Judge Margaret Martin to jail him.
“I understand the department of immigration, ICE, is here in the hallway to take him into custody,” Silberman said.
“I am asking that my client have bail set on him,” she said, according to a transcript.
“That you set between $500 and $2,000 bail on this case .?.?. If no bail is set, he has no ability to come back.”
The judge, appointed by de Blasio in January after 21 years as a Legal Aid lawyer, went one better and set bail at $3,000.
“Based on the facts and circumstances, the judge made a ruling,” a spokesman for the judge told The Post.
“And that’s her discretion.”

Scott Adams: Trump and Healthcare
By Scott Adams
March 25th, 2017 @ 9:04am
Today we are witnessing one of the most important events in political history. But you probably can’t see it because the news is talking about healthcare, and how Ryan and Trump totally failed to get enough votes.
The real story is happening in parallel with the healthcare story, and that’s what renders it invisible. Something enormous is happening that has nothing to do with anything you are seeing in the news. In fact, you’ll probably read it here for the first time.
I’m dragging this out to see if you can guess the big news before I tell you. It is something I predicted would happen. It is something the country needs MORE than healthcare. It was, until yesterday, perceived as the biggest problem in the United States, if not the entire world.
And that problem almost totally went away yesterday. The smell might linger, but the problem has ended. We should be celebrating, but instead we will be yammering about healthcare.
Do you know what problem just got solved? It’s invisible for now, but later everyone will be able to see it.
Don’t see it?
Okay, I’ll just tell you.
With the failure of the Ryan healthcare bill, the illusion of Trump-is-Hitler has been fully replaced with Trump-is-incompetent meme. Look for the new meme to dominate the news, probably through the summer. By year end, you will see a second turn, from incompetent to “Competent, but we don’t like it.”
I have been predicting this story arc for some time now. So far, we’re ahead of schedule.
In the 2D world, where everything is just the way it looks, and people are rational, Trump and Ryan failed to improve healthcare. But in the 3D world of persuasion, Trump just had one of the best days any president ever had: He got promoted from Hitler to incompetent. And that promotion effectively defused the Hitler-hallucination bomb that was engineered by the Clinton campaign.
In all seriousness, the Trump-is-Hitler illusion was the biggest problem in the country, and maybe the world. It was scaring people to the point of bad health. It made any kind of political conversation impossible. It turned neighbors and friends against each other in a way we have never before seen. It was inviting violence, political instability, and worse.
In my opinion, the Trump-is-Hitler hallucination was the biggest short-term problem facing the country. Congress just solved for it, albeit unintentionally. Watch the opposition news abandon the Trump-is-scary concept to get all over the “incompetent” theme.
No one wants an incompetent president, but calling the other side a bunch of bumblers is routine politics. We just went from an extraordinary risk (Trump=Hitler) to ordinary politics (The other side=incompetent). Ordinary politics won’t spark a revolution or make you punch a coworker. This is a good day for all of us. It just doesn’t look that way because the news is distracting you with the healthcare issue, which is also important, but a full level down in importance from electing Hitler (in your mind).
Speaking of healthcare, I predicted on Periscope ( http://tinyurl.com/kksccb8 ) several days ago that the only way to get a bill passed was to let Ryan fail hard on the first attempt while scaring the left at the same time. That softens both sides to the middle. There was literally no other path to the middle. You couldn’t get there without the first step being a major failure by the majority party. This necessary step toward success is, of course, being reported as total failure.
Today I’m getting a lot of what I call the “November 7th effect.” That’s where my critics are prematurely celebrating my wrongness because the Ryan version of healthcare failed. I hope to see my critics again toward the end of the year. Don’t be strangers.
Update: Watch on Twitter as my critics come after me personally and ignore my points. That’s how you know I’m onto something. (Otherwise they would criticize the point.)

Obamacare Insurance Markets on Verge of Collapse
http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/09/03/obamacare-insurance-markets-on-verge-of-collapse/
Why the Obamacare collapse is exactly what Obama and Clinton want
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/oct/26/why-obamacare-is-collapsing/
The Obama administration has finally admitted that everything it told us about Obamacare was a lie.
During their hard sell, the Democrats — starting with President Obama — swore up and down that the “Affordable” Care Act would lower costs, expand choice and allow you to keep your health plan and doctor. They knew none of those things were going to materialize — ever. Because they also knew that Obamacare was never about health care. It was only and always about government power and control. Over you.
This week, the administration implicitly conceded that Obamacare is being smothered by an array of existential problems. Average premiums, they said, will spike by a whopping 25 percent next year. And that’s a low-ball estimate, given that premiums in places like Arizona are increasing by a staggering 116 percent and Oklahoma by a breathtaking 69 percent.
The administration also admitted that at least 20 percent of consumers will have only one health insurer from which to choose. With less or no competition, costs will continue to rise while choice shrinks. So much for keeping your plan and doctor. You’ll be lucky to even find a doctor at all. Physicians are leaving Medicare in droves because of the pittances paid to them in reimbursement.
Subsidies are also disappearing, Obamacare co-ops are collapsing, fewer people are enrolling and loss ratios are soaring. The long-anticipated death spiral is here.
Mr. Obama, Hillary Clinton and the Democrats own this catastrophe, but none of it comes as surprise — least of all to them, who designed it to implode. The built-in collapse is proceeding right on schedule.
Mrs. Clinton is, of course, the grandmother of socialized medicine, having spent much of her public life pushing for it.
Since Obamacare’s passage, the left has effectively moved the goalposts so far to the extreme that single payer will no longer seem like a radical approach but the logical solution to fixing the program’s problems. Mrs. Clinton is already arguing that single payer is the obvious next step, a fait accompli.
That, of course, was the endgame all along. The Obamacare architects rigged the system to fall apart so they could ride to the rescue with single payer.
That was always the leftists’ ideal vision. In 2003, Illinois state Sen. Barack Obama laid it out: “I happen to be a proponent of a single-payer universal health care program. But as all of you know, we may not get there immediately. Because first we have to take back the White House, we have to take back the Senate, and we have to take back the House.”
But Democrats facing re-election in 2010 and 2012 did not want to have to vote for a highly unpopular single-payer system, so they pursued an easier political path.
They designed a health care scheme that was as close to single payer as was politically possible and stacked the deck so that it would be the inevitable result.
A parade of leftists telegraphed that intention. When Obamacare was passed in its final form in March 2010, Sen. Tom Harkin said, “I think of this bill as a starter home. It’s not the mansion of our dreams, but it has a solid foundation.” He added, “By passing this legislation, we will achieve a progressive prize that has eluded Congresses and presidents going back to Teddy Roosevelt.” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi chimed in, “Once we kick through this door, there’ll be more legislation to follow.” Mr. Obama himself told Rep. Dennis Kucinich, “We’ve gotta start somewhere.”
This is why they purposefully built collapse into the program: They want employers to drop private coverage and push ever more Americans into government-run care.
They have already started to argue that we tried the market approach, but gosh golly, it just didn’t work, so we’re going to have to go the full socialized medicine route.
The night of the Supreme Court’s King v. Burwell decision, which upheld federal subsidies in states that did not establish their own exchanges, Mrs. Clinton released a fundraising email, indicating that she was ready to go far to the left, and destroy the Republicans as villains.
“This ruling is a reminder that while progress never comes easy, if we keep working, keep pushing, and never, ever give up, anything is possible,” she wrote.
“The next president, “she continued, “will either protect and expand health care for every American, or undo the progress we’ve made.”
Her language is code for moving Obamacare quickly and seamlessly into a single-payer system — under the guise of “improving health care for all.”
The real reason is to finalize the critical cornerstone of what Mr. Obama in 2008 called the “fundamental transformation of the nation.” After all, if the government controls your health care, the government controls you.
Mrs. Clinton knows this. So does Donald Trump, who will repeal and replace this socialist nightmare with market- and patient-based solutions.
After running around the coutry for 18 months bragging he'd end "Obamacare", Trump fell on his face today - HIS OWN PARTY COULDN'T BE BULLIED.
The decline and fall of what was once a great city...
Detroit mayors all Democrats since 1962
http://www.toledoblade.com/news/2013/07/28/Detroit-mayors-all-Democrats-since-1962.html
The last time Detroit had a Republican mayor, Germany was the only country whose imported cars threatened the American auto industry, the moon was not a place where any human beings were expected to set foot any time soon, and African-Americans in the Deep South didn’t eat in the same restaurants as whites.
Detroit’s last GOP mayor was Louis C. Miriani, a son of Italian immigrants, who served from 1957 to 1962. By the time he left office, the Republican brand was ebbing in Detroit, one of the country’s most Democratic-dominated cities.
“The last mayor considered to be a Republican would have been Louis C. Miriani,” said Berl Falbaum, a former Detroit News reporter who covered Detroit politics in the 1960s and now teaches journalism at Wayne State University.
The former city council president was defeated overwhelmingly in 1961 by a charismatic, John Kennedy-like Democrat, Jerome Cavanagh — the first of a string of Democratic mayors.
It could be argued that 1961 was the election in which Detroit started on the path that led to its economic collapse 52 years later.
Mr. Miriani was elected to city council in 1947 and, as council president, automatically became mayor after Mayor Albert Cobo’s death in 1957. He was elected in 1958. Under Mayor Miriani, a convention hall — later named after Mayor Cobo — and other parts of the Civic Center were completed and the city’s freeways, water system, and port were expanded.
Mr. Miriani was convicted in 1969 of evading federal income taxes, failing to pay taxes on $261,000 in income. He served 294 days in prison in 1970 and 1971 and died in 1987 at the age of 90 in Pontiac, Mich.
After leaving office in January, 1962, Mr. Miriani went to work as executive vice president of the Aronsson Printing Co., of Detroit. In 1965, he was re-elected to Detroit City Council but left after his conviction.
Jack Casey, a Toledo native and former Toledo Times reporter who covered Detroit politics for the Detroit Free Press from 1956 to 1962, said Mr. Miriani was not an effective mayor, but that he had a lot of institutional support, including from the United Auto Workers.
“He was a do-nothing mayor. He didn’t do anything to solve any problems. He created problems,” Mr. Casey said. He said he was aware that Mr. Miriani was a Republican, but that “he did not run as a Republican.”
“He ran as a reactionary person. He liked people with money,” said Mr. Casey, who went on to work for Mayor Cavanagh and then to careers in radio, television, and public relations in Detroit.
The Detroit Free Press wrote in Mr. Miriani’s obituary, “Miriani confronted a series of urban problems that plagued subsequent mayors: rising unemployment and demands for public services, racial tensions, falling tax revenue, and the flight of industry and white residents to the suburbs and other states.”
The article — co-written by then-Free Press City Hall bureau chief David Kushma, now The Blade’s editor — reported that Mr. Miriani was alternately irascible and ingratiating, considerate to supporters and often impatient and insulting to critics. He said he served no special interests, “only the public interest.”
In 1957 he refused to welcome delegates to an Islamic convention because some speakers were “anti-American,” according to the Free Press. And in 1959 he refused to attend a welcome for a top Soviet official in Detroit as “not in the public interest.”
Mr. Miriani pleaded unsuccessfully for more state and federal aid for Detroit, and tried to deal with Detroit’s economic problems by cuts in city spending and services. He rejected demands that the city enact an income tax on residents and suburban commuters who worked in Detroit. Later, the city did institute an income tax.
Mr. Miriani presided over a crackdown on crime that outraged black leaders and mobilized black voters to support Mr. Cavanagh.
The Free Press said, “Black ministers and residents held the mayor responsible and vowed to defeat him. They, along with blue-collar and jobless voters and city employees opposed to Miriani’s tight-fisted spending policies, backed challenger Jerome Cavanagh, an obscure 33-year-old lawyer and political novice.”
Detroit — like Toledo — has nonpartisan municipal elections, and observers say political party is rarely invoked publicly, especially by Republicans. Mr. Miriani identified as a Republican early in his career but was strictly nonpartisan by the time he became mayor.
Bill Ballenger, a former state lawmaker who publishes Inside Michigan Politics newsletter, said Mr. Cobo was the last definite Republican mayor. His party affiliation can be stated with confidence because he was the Republican candidate for governor of Michigan in 1956, losing to incumbent Democrat G. Mennen Williams.
“There never was much [Republican Party in Detroit] even in the ’50s and ’60s. There were some councilmen who got elected, closet Republicans, but they’re pretty much all gone today,” Mr. Ballenger said.
Preceding Mr. Miriani was a series of Republican mayors starting in 1933 with Frank Couzens, John W. Smith, Richard Reading, and Edward Jeffries, ending in 1948. Democrat Eugene Van Antwerp was mayor from 1948 to 1950.
Mr. Van Antwerp was followed by Mr. Cobo, a business executive who was “loaned” to the city to help it through a financial crisis. He served seven consecutive terms as treasurer, 1935 to 1949.
Mr. Cobo won two two-year terms and then a four-year term, dying near the end of his third term. Mr. Cobo had decided not to run again in 1957, and Mr. Miriani was already running in the 1957 elections, having easily led the primary contest the week before Mr. Cobo’s fatal heart attack.
Though Mr. Cavanagh upset Mr. Miriani in 1961 and he was a popular mayor, his second term was marred by riots in 1967.
Republican power waned in Detroit just as the city’s prosperity and population peaked. Roiling beneath the surface was ethnic tension, between the working class whites and blacks who had flocked to the city for its auto factories.
Mr. Falbaum, 74, said Mr. Cavanagh tried to solve problems that previous mayors tried to sweep under the carpet.
“I believe that the seeds for the riot were planted over the years by other mayors — more conservative, less responsive to black complaints. Jerry Cavanagh, who tried to do the right things for blacks — integrated the police department, responding to black concerns — suffered the worst riot in the country at the time. That to me was a great tragedy,” Mr. Falbaum said.
After him came a string of Democratic mayors, including current Mayor Dave Bing.
Conservative writers have cited Detroit as a lesson in one-party rule and Democratic policies.
Columnist Rich Tucker wrote, “One-party government quickly became bad government, featuring a stream of liberal, blue-state policies such as sweet deals for government unions. Now, though, the bill has come due for these liberal policies.”
So far, not a single member of the Trump administration has been found guilty of secretly working for the United States

Democrats turn to convicted domestic terrorist Brett Kimberlin in bizarre anti-Trump scheme
The notorious "Speedway Bomber" served 17 years in prison for his crimes but is now a left-wing activist
Convicted terrorist bomber Brett Kimberlin was revealed this week to have worked with shady Democrat operative Alexandra Chalupa in a campaign to discredit President Trump.
“That work culminated in a Washington, D.C. meeting in December between” Chalupa, “Speedway Bomber” Kimberlin, and a South Africa-born Israeli man identified as Yoni Ariel, the Daily Caller reported.
“Ariel, whose real name is Jonathan Schwartz, traveled to Washington, D.C. to brief Chalupa and Kimberlin on his knowledge of Russia’s activities during the campaign. Chalupa, an activist of Ukrainian heritage who is strongly opposed to Trump, also directed Ariel to the Justice Department, sources told TheDC.”
Ariel reportedly flew to Rome, Italy to buy “a set of documents purporting to show that ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson paid Trump’s company more than $1.5 billion in June, seemingly to secure the position of secretary of state in a Trump administration.” Ariel paid $9,000 for the papers which turned out to be bogus.
Left-wingers have always been comfortable working with terrorists. In fact, they hold many terrorists in high regard. Unrepentant terrorists Bill Ayers, Bernardine Dohrn, Angela Davis, Lynne Stewart, and convicted cop-killers Assata Shakur, Leonard Peltier, and Mumia abu Jamal, are regarded as freedom fighters or at worst as misunderstood activists.
Kimberlin served 17 years in prison for his crimes. He has reinvented himself as a left-wing activist and uses the legal system to torment his critics.
And why not? It’s not like the mainstream media will hold him accountable.

Trump loses - again!...the self-proclaimed "expert deal-maker" couldn't bully House Repubs.
Repubs are now poised to go after Title ! - pre-existing condition/s will be dropped from coverage.
And how about dumb Junior! - texting the Mayor of a large European city about a comment the Mayor made SIX MONTHS AGO!
Another example of how the liberal media spins interviews.
Scott Adams: Some Fake News About Me from Bloomberg
By Scott Adams
March 22nd, 2017 @ 12:44pm
Last autumn, before the election, a writer for Bloomberg asked to spend a day with me to interview me for a feature piece about my blogging on Trump, and my life in general. I could tell from the initial conversation that it was going to be a hostile article. The reporter was open about being deeply frightened of Trump, believing him to be a racist, sexist, homophobic monster. So you can imagine how she felt about me for writing flattering blog posts about his persuasion talents.
I quickly determined that agreeing to the interview would be foolhardy. Obviously it was going to be a hit piece. The writer weakly tried to conceal that fact, but failed miserably.
If I agreed to the interview, I knew I would be making myself the target of ridicule and shame, baring my flaws to the world – both the real ones and the fake news ones. No rational person would agree to such an interview. It was a suicide mission.
So I agreed to the interview.
Regular readers know I don’t experience embarrassment like normal people. I just thought it would be funny to have them write about how wrong I was… just as the election was about to prove how right I was.
The day I agreed to the interview, I told my girlfriend Kristina that I was going to be the subject of a “hit piece” in Bloomberg. When the writer asked to speak to my brother, for background, I told him it was a hit piece, but I invited him to do it anyway, just for fun. Obviously, no sane person would agree to be interviewed for hit piece on his own family.
So my brother agreed to the interview.
We’ll have a good laugh about it later today. He got framed as a gullible idiot for “believing” something my mom told us when we were kids.
Check the article here and see if you can spot the fake news and the places where context has been tweaked to make things look both true and misleading at the same time. I’ll tell you what you missed, if anything, after you read it. Compare your impressions to my Fake News Report Card below.
Here’s the Bloomberg article ( http://tinyurl.com/lc4sc2x ) by Caroline Winter
Fake News Report Card
1. The article and headline used my old phrasing “master wizard” instead of the updated “Master Persuader” that I used in 95% of my work. That was an intentional choice by the editor to create the KKK association in your mind, or at least to make it all seem silly.
2. The anecdote about me showing her a Victoria’s Secret Whencast that I made didn’t happen. One of the hundreds of public Whencasts on the site included that content, created by a woman. I might have opened that one along with others as different examples of what the software can do. By highlighting that one bit of fake news (saying I created it), and putting it in the context of my girlfriend being too young for me, it created a powerful and intentional creepy vibe.
3. Kristina doesn’t live with me. She was staying at my house temporarily while her place was having some repairs and upgrades.
4. When an article is intended to be favorable, you see photos that make me look relatively good, like this one, from Peter Duke:
When an article wants you to look bad to the reader, you see photos like this, from the Bloomberg article:
This is standard practice on both sides of the political spectrum. Publications pick the photos that tell their bias, not the story.
5. The headline suggests I am somehow, maybe, in favor of genocide. Obviously I’m not in favor of genocide, and the article later weakly explains that. But by then, the damage is done. Your brain is most influenced by what you read first, especially if it is in a headline.
6. The headline says Trump hypnotized me. I would accept that as a hypothesis, but the article doesn’t address the point at all. The implication is that I’m a gullible nut-job, as opposed to one of the few people who predicted Trump’s win and provided lots of cognitive-science-backed reasons for the prediction.
7. The article was initiated before the election, and was originally intended for publication about then. But a funny thing happened that ruined everything for Bloomberg. Trump won, and in so doing, he made me look like less of a nut. My accurate predictions, against all odds, would have been the headline in any article that wasn’t designed to be hostile.
8. To explain my Linguistic Kill Shot idea, the writer focused on the Carly Fiorina “look at that face” incident. She could have mentioned Lyin’ Ted, or Low Energy Bush, or Crooked Hillary. All stronger examples, but they don’t make me look like a sexist when the context is omitted. The Fiorina examples does.
9. The writer refers to my wide field of interests as “unusual fixations,” thus turning ordinary discussions of fitness and diet habits into something that sounds like a fetish.
10. Last year, the author of a book about seduction called The Game mailed me a copy of his book. This is common practice among authors. Sometimes it happens because an author thinks another author would be interested in the book. Sometimes an author hopes to get a public mention to boost sales. I have lots of unread books all over the house for this same reason. The Bloomberg writer focused on this one. The Pre-suasion book she mentions was also signed and sent to me by the author, for the same reason. But I read that one. (It’s great.)
You might recognize this book-related persuasion trick as the Mein Kampf play. If someone gives you a book that you didn’t ask for, somehow the book still explains your soul.
11. The writer asked me what would happen for me personally if Trump won. I talked about the good and the bad of it. She picked only the following words to make me look like a douche bag: “If Trump gets elected, my profile will go through the roof, because I’m in a very small group of people who publicly said he would win in a landslide.?… I’ll be very popular,” he said, with satisfaction.”
Notice the three dots before “I’ll be very popular.” That is your signal for a manufactured quote. They assembled it from bits of what I said and left out the context that would have rendered it un-douche-baggy.
12. This quote is out of context: “In the kitchen, Adams installed three microwaves so he “can make a lot of popcorn at once.” The missing context is that I designed the house knowing that whoever makes the popcorn for the rest of the family misses the first part of the movie. Plus, the extra microwaves come in handy all the time. I use them at the same time quite often. How did that come out sounding nutty?
13. My girlfriend, Kristina, has an advanced degree from UC Berkeley, plays multiple instruments, has succeeded in several fields, and now has 3.3 million Instagram followers. The writer mentioned her bra size.
14. This quote was cobbled together to make me look like a racist and a sexist because I write about Trump. “Adams has said, his professional advancement was thwarted by diversity hires. ‘There was no hope for another generic white male to get promoted any time soon,’ he wrote in Dilbert 2.0: 20 Years of Dilbert. (Later in the book, he noted that his Dilbert TV show was canceled after ‘the network made a strategic decision to focus on shows with African-American actors.’)
Both events are true, but in the first case she left out the fact that my bosses told me in direct language that they couldn’t promote a white male. I didn’t imagine it. Likewise, the UPN network literally made the decision to focus on African-American viewers at that time. it wasn’t just my interpretation of events.
Here’s the problem with that sort of reporting out of context: I’m also the guy who thinks men should stay out of the abortion question and leave it to women to decide what should be legal. I also blogged about my ideas for slavery reparations. I also described myself to her as “ultra-liberal” on social issues, because I am. If you leave out that context, the anecdotes sound like an explanation for why I grew up to be so terrible.
15. The article quotes my friend and cartooning colleague Stephan Pastis as being appalled at my Trump support, and speculating that the reason might simply be that cartoonist crave attention.
Of course I crave attention. Plus, it’s my job. That part is not in dispute.
But I think Stephan’s quotes were from before Election Day, when people still thought I was nuts to predict a Trump win. Today, I think Stephan would add a second hypothesis: I did it because I thought I was right, and it seemed important to me to share with the world what I could see coming from a mile away.
Plus I crave attention. It was a twofer.
16. The writer badgered me on several occasions to make a comparison between Dogbert and Trump. I said Dogbert’s personality is based on my own dark inner thoughts and had nothing to do with Trump except they are both ambitious in the extreme. So she wrote this: “I’d thought the point of those strips was to laugh at Dogbert’s cruelty—not celebrate it. But Adams seemed elated by the triumph of a Dogbertesque president.” WTF?
That’s sixteen intentionally-biased or incorrect components in one story.
By the way, Bloomberg did have a third-party do fact-checking on the article by running a bunch of questions by me for verification. That is standard practice for the big publications. None of the things I mentioned here were in the fact checking. The fact-checkers don’t check the writer’s own eye-witness accounts for accuracy, and they don’t check for missing context.
When normal citizens read the news, they think it is mostly accurate. But when you are the subject of reporting, you can see the fake news all over it. I thought I would share this view with you so you can increase your skepticism when you see this sort of thing presented as truth.
Plus, I crave attention. I couldn’t solve healthcare funding without it, among other things. Attention is fun, but also a tool.
You might still wonder why I volunteered to be interviewed for a hit piece, aside from the attention thing. My brother just sent me a very short video clip of his first reaction when he opened the article to read it. I think this answers all of your questions.
More "illegal" sanctuary city BS.
De Blasio: We Are Preparing NYC Schools to Resist ICE Agents
https://townhall.com/tipsheet/cortneyobrien/2017/03/21/de-blasio-we-are-preparing-immigrant-parents-schools-to-resist-ice-agents-n2302197
At a press conference in front of New York’s Tweed Courthouse on Tuesday, Mayor Bill de Blasio laid out the city’s plans to resist U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in the Trump era.
There are “deep fears and concerns” among immigrant families after President Trump announced new ICE protocols that give agents more freedom to hold illegal immigration raids, the mayor noted.
“Parents don’t know what the policies will mean for their children,” he said.
That’s where the sanctuary city is planning to step in.
“We think it’s crucial to fight for all New Yorkers and to help immigrant New Yorkers to know their rights,” De Blasio said. “This is your city. Your city will stand by you.”
De Blasio detailed a few ways the city plans to assuage parents’ fears and resist ICE. His office, he said, will be instructing school employees to understand what to do in which ICE agents appear at a school. The agents, he said, will be kept outside the school buildings and schools will not share information with them unless required by the law.
“They can’t blow by our security,” De Blasio added. “They have to follow our rules.”
If agents do obtain a warrant, they will be permitted to enter the school, but they will be closely monitored by school security.
“ICE agents will not be wandering the halls of a school,” the mayor promised.
In addition to blocking ICE from entering schools, De Blasio said programs like Make the Road NY will be held in schools in order to prepare parents as Trump’s immigration policies go into effect.
The city will also facilitate workshops for parents to get questions answered about their rights in general and how they can get help. They have planned over 100 Know Your Rights workshops in boroughs throughout the city which will inform families where they can seek legal assistance, and free immigration services if they are facing the threat of deportation.
The policies coming out of Washington “violate our values,” De Blasio insisted.
Asked by the press, the mayor admitted that no ICE agent has yet attempted to enter a New York school.
New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito echoed the mayor’s sentiments, noting that “fear and hate is plaguing our communities.”
ICE can’t come in schools without a warrant signed by a judge, she emphasized. She fully intends to make sure that schools remain “safe spaces” for children.
Meanwhile, De Blasio has suggested it is okay to shield illegal immigrant drunk drivers from ICE as well.
Obama tried to legalize migrant accused of murdering 15-year-old stepdaughter
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/mar/21/armando-garcia-ramirez-illegal-immigrant-accused-/
The Obama administration last year began the process of granting legal status to a 36-year-old illegal immigrant with a long criminal rap sheet whom agents had twice tried to deport, and who now stands accused of killing his 15-year-old girlfriend, mother of one child with him and pregnant with another.
The Texas case, involving Armando Garcia-Ramirez, a Mexican, is raising new questions about immigration enforcement under President Obama, as supporters of President Trump point to the matter as proof of a broken immigration system.
Mr. Garcia may even have been the girl’s stepfather at the time he impregnated her — something federal authorities apparently missed last year after he was arrested for smuggling five other illegal immigrants into the U.S.
Prosecutors declined to pursue the smuggling case, and Mr. Garcia made bond on immigration charges and was let go.
Months later Mr. Garcia was even approved for a work permit, letting him get a job and making him eligible for taxpayer benefits.
It's funny that ANYONE in the Trump family would be "offended" be hateful comments.

Eric and Lara Trump announced today that they are expecting their first child in September.
Eric is President Trump’s second oldest son.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In response to the wonderful news liberal television host Chelsea Handler attacked the entire Trump family.
How disgusting.
“I guess one of @realDonaldTrump’s sons is expecting a new baby. Just what we need. Another person with those jeans. Let’s hope for a girl.”
She meant to same ‘genes’ not ‘jeans.’
What an outrageous and hateful comment.

Bernie Sanders: ‘Democrat Party Is Sinking Like The Titanic’
http://investmentwatchblog.com/bernie-sanders-democrat-party-is-sinking-like-the-titanic/
Bernie Sanders compared the Democratic Party in 2017 to the ill-fated Titanic in a recent interview, adding that corrupt and self-interested Democrat leaders want to maintain the “status quo” and sink with the ship so long as they can keep their “first-class seats.“
“Certainly there are some people in the Democratic Party who want to maintain the status quo,” Sanders told the New York Times Magazine when asked if he thought the Democratic Party knew what it stood for anymore.
“They would rather go down with the Titanic so long as they have first-class seats,” Sanders continued.
Sanders ran an insurgent campaign for president in 2016 as an alternative to the establishment choice Hillary Clinton. He has challenged the Democratic Party to fight for everyday, working class Americans, arguing that the Democratic establishment has sold out its roots and become the party of metropolitan elites rather than a party of the people.
The party has become unrecognizable in the last few decades. Democrats are now beholden to Wall Street, the military-industrial complex, and other big-money interests, according to Senator Sanders.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.), another member of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party suggested to the Times in the same article that President Donald Trump’s election reminded Democrats that they should focus on promoting their values instead of lining their own pockets.
“Our values are more in line with most of America,” Warren said.
The Democratic Party has faced internal turmoil since Republicans regained the White House in November in what for many was a surprise election victory. While some progressives are pushing for the party to become more liberal, more centrist Democrats have called for Democratic leadership to reach out to Trump supporters in Middle America.
Unlike many members of Democrat HQ, Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan (Ohio) is telling it like it is. He has warned his colleagues that things are so grim the DNC can hardly consider itself a national party anymore.
“We’re at the point now where we are not even a national party at this point,” Tim Ryan said after the presidential election.
“We have some support on the coast, but we lost the support of Middle America.”
Trump's approval rating falls to 37% - that is the lowest for any president at this stage of his presidency.
