5/15: New 2.1M Share Stake In Office Depot (Benziga)
13F From Einhorn's Greenlight Shows New ~2.1M Share Stake In Office Depot
looks like its heading up finally? ex dividend date is coming
maybe the shorts will cover
looks good to me? somebody likes to short it
wish it would give a run
My sights are set considerably higher. But then I didn't get into ODP expecting a quick flip.
ODP has a good chart, nice mountain ranges, only one split in 1999 and that a forward split. Just two years ago it was up over $9. And last summer it was up over $5. These current lows, I don't see them as normal.
It may never get back up to the double digit normals of its past successes, like $45 in 2006, but I don't see it staying at $3 without at least few more sweet peaks.
I gaze at the horizon of mountain ranges, and when the skier gets down in the valley, that's when I like to buy. That skier though, sometimes he has an easy lift up to the next peak, and sometimes he trudges up that mountain huffing and puffing, resting, falling backwards in the snow. And sometimes that danged skier... you get to thinking he's NEVER going to get up there, and so you sell, and Bammo, he gets a big wind in his sails. Other times, you hang on with high hopes, and the skier gives up.
Yeah, I prob should have sold when
it got to $3.66. I had a 12% gain-
pretty careless, so for some odd
reason I held. I think she'll
start trending up again; much
depends on Feb 28 Q4 earnings.
I'm expecting moderately good news.
Good goin Saskey
Briboy
4th qtr earnings----anything positive
will be big.
We got a nice push to $3.66 after Christmas,
just like you said, but then many stocks
went down...correction city. No as worried
here; seems there is good support a fingers
breath above $3.00 but I'm a bit concerned
with the upper trend line; going down after
intermittent spikes.
The company is undergoing a major transition.
If this is successful, which I think it will
be, the the folks who got in under $4.00 per
share could be real happy.
I had a nice gain at $3.66 and was going to
take profits and come back to it swing trading
but wasn't sure this would go back down, which
is why I am excited about ODP's prospects, and
so are some of the pundits.
I wish you well Sir BluSkies. Shine it on ODP, k?
Briboy
Let's break $3.50 and say Merry Christmas friend.
I'm a Conservative but wholeheartedly
agree with you on the GOP. Many of
them; what a heartless bunch, afraid
to pass legislation to make things
better for American's [most].
Tax bill I think would merely spur on
the shareprice and like you said, place
ODP's path to greener pastures. I am
in for a solid gain here and might keep
some shares for way down the line. ODP,
because of the Amazon's of this world,
is finding ways to reinvent itself, and
they are slowly succeeding.
I hope you get some time off to reflect.
Peace
Briboy
Held the 50MA today. I think when this passes 3.50 it should rocket up in my opinion. Tax bill would help but ya never know with the GOP
I wanted to take some profits at or
near $3.50 today but I think if the
Tax bill passes this week, which it
should, it will impact ODP positively.
Would actually like to hold this as it
appears Office Depot is recovering, albeit
slowly, but there are newer lows daily
since Oct 30 with a couple exceptions and
by very little.
Sky is Blue :)

Closed above the 50MA resistance. Time for a bullish resurgence? Let's see!
Interesting......we exceeded Market Watch
resistance of $3.32 but hit one I suggested
at $3.37 but have not [yet] exceeded.
Could have had a nifty 3.4% profit but is
to much upside in the near term- yep, held.
She's holding at #3.30. Looking for a strong
Friday
Briboy
@ $3.35 have broke resistance of $3.32
Note: resistance level per Market Watch
I would got by bit longer term at $3.37
High at one hour in is $3.37
if this breaks $3.37 it will be "choice"
if not, there will be another day; soon.
Shucks....too late now, am not going
to chase it. Will get it on a pullback
soon..
I can't see this on a continual climb
but it's sweet
good ole ODP
I think you'll get it
Looking good today, trying to get
in now.
Peace
Oh.....love, is a many splendor-ed thing,
but not with stocks...lol
I looked at ODP today. I am not liking
these steep cliffs going down every couple
months but pps is finally trending upwards.
I may buy on a pullback and doing a bit more
due diligence. Like you, this one's been
sweet. May want to check out GOL.
regards
Briboy
I've been in before, too, profitably. Not that I'd ever fall in love with a stock. Taboo, that. But I expect a tidy profit from this go-round.
How did they make the purchase though? Did they take a loan out saying that computa whatever is the collateral?
Does Office Depot have the onhand cash in the bank to make that purchase?? Is this purchase Vertical in nature???
What did I saw.....in a few days, up over
20 cents. Over 30 cents in a week. Pretty
good bounce. Missed my limit order so will
have to wait till this retreats to its
downward channel. Still, ODP will think
of something and be in good shape.
Best to all
Briboy
Have been in ODP before and always liked them
despite recent difficulties in a changing world.
There's a gap on 10.27-10.30 that is going to
have to fill at some point near 3.66, question
is when. Am sure many are in this for the
long haul and I respect that, but this looks
good to make some money on and am suggesting
a bounce soon. I'm an American and entitled
to my opinion, loosely based on technical
analysis, hope and faith....lol
Best to all
Briboy
I never buy expecting a quick resale. While I've had stocks sell the same week, I usually end up holding anywhere from 1-3 months. I'm more of a "month-trader" than a "day-trader" -- lol! Averaging out my last 10 sales, average holding time was 35 days, with a spread from 5 days to 74 days.
ODP could be a good bounce idea for january after tax selling is over and done with. Or maybe 30 days from now to avoid that wash sale rule.
Office Depot launches BizBox, building on its acquisition of CompuCom, to help customers start, grow, and succeed in new business ventures.
Moody's changes outlook to positive, up from stable -- Oct 17 from Moody's Investors Service. They see the CompuCom purchase as a strategic move.
They said the same thing about blockbuster
ODP is buying out CompuCom and adding tech support services to its retail stores, similar to the Geek Squad. One of Office Depot's major shareholders, Paulson & Co. which owns a 2.5% stake in ODP, is cheering the move.
This taken from two news stories:
Paulson Gives Latest Office Depot Deal Thumbs Up -- Market Talk
Office Depot CEO's Answer to Retail Woes? Becoming an IT Help Desk -- Dow Jones
Looks like a good time to buy in. Prices are crazy low right now.
OK, why is this new strategic direction and acquisition regards negative by the market? -20% now.

$ODP beat the street today on the 3rd quarter earnings for 2016. Just waiting to hear the details of the sale of their European assets. We could possibly have a little mover here. $4.00 would be nice. I been building a position little at a time here. Riz
Always good to know the CEOs history.... In the case of the ODP ceo he is useless.....his claims to fame in recent years are as follows.
Failed merger with staples.....
Closed a shitload of stores.....
Left Delhaize America because he didn't get promoted....
Closed and/or sold more store than any previous ceo while at Delhaize America.....(he was only there for a year or two).
The future doesn't look good at all for ODP with a ceo who's entire resume consists of hatchet jobs.
Very good read thanks
Some CEOs learn the hard way
and live in their own bubble.
Remember the CEOs of Lehman, Kodak,Blockbuster, Yellow Cab;
the list goes on and on....
Now it is ODP's turn.

What You Don’t Know About Office Depot Sale Of European Operations http://marketexclusive.com/what-you-dont-know-about-office-depot-inc-nasdaqodps-sale-of-european-operations/32833/?icd1
Trading in penny stocks is gambling. I say that because the SEC 'does not rule' here. Many of these CEO's get away with murder. Many are shell companies that spit out and sell shares to the public as well as pay themselves big salaries... when there is no product. They are selling a dream. So for me the difficult part is to determine whether the CEO is for real, or just another scammer. Currently I'm trying to figure out VLDI which I own shares in. Another Holy Grail Cyber solution. No sales yet.
It's all legal. Just invent a sexy product. Set up a web site. Get on the OTC. Then send out a lot of nice and rosy PRs. It's a racket and the SEC does nothing to clean it up.
I just came off a penny stock last year whereby the CEO of CTKH found a legal way to strip off the assets of the public company (and he produced a product for a profit) and then go private leaving the SH with nothing but a shell. He also did an R/S which wiped the SH out. The shell sold twice and renamed twice. And today the final shell is a joke. CEO's buy shells because they have been laundered... meaning clean balance sheets, listed on the OTC with no defaults, etc. So it goes in pennyworld.
PMED was the same type of deal I think the same machine. After a few 1:100 reverse splits it is now PDMI. I made a small amount on PMED/PDMI a few times. Have a few mill of PDMI now
It was CNDI (Coronado Industries). They almost pulled off the deal of the decade with Novartis, but it all fell through at the last moment.
Was that stock PMED?
At least you had a happy ending on that story. 15+ years ago or so I got into a penny stock for 22,000 shares at 9 cents. It was the dot com era. The company had a device which treated glaucoma patients with no drugs. The stock shot up to $4/share and I sitting on almost 90K profit. I was an inexperienced trader so i let the PPS fall. Every time it fell I'd tell myself that I'd sell out when the PPS recovers 10%. I walked it down to 25 cents before I dumped it all. So I made a small profit but it was too painful. Obviously I should have taken 50% off the table when it was at 4 bucks and then let the rest ride with stops. Live and learn.
I do have some concerns about Office Depot being able to compete with the likes of Amazon. The CEO may very well have spilled the beans in his casual comment. Maybe Office Depot needs to aggressively change their marketing strategy and business model and move more towards online sales to compete with other online merchants. And shut down a lot of the brick and mortar outlets.
I owned BAMM. in 1998. I made the comment on the messageboard if they just admitted they had a website the stock would take off. BAMM made a new website and it went from about $4 to 46 the day after Thanksgiving. I tried to sell and the market was closed. Monday I had told my broker to sell at the gun. He did and I got 26 a share. THE CEO was on CNBC Srreaming they were not an internet company. Dropped back to 12 then lower the same week. At least I got 26 for half of it then 12 for the rest
