Northern Sun successfully extends agreement with Indian tribe in regards to the massive 40 million acre natural gas rich Cameron Hills area in the North West Territories of Canada for another 5 years.
The chances that the Canadian Government will permit natural gas development and production in the Cameron Hills during the 5 year extension, are considered very good by Northern Sun.
Northern Sun Announces Discovery Well at Worsley
Wednesday August 29, 9:00 am ET
CALGARY, Aug. 29 /CNW/ -
NORTHERN SUN EXPLORATION COMPANY INC. -
(the "Company") is pleased to announce the discovery of a
new oil and gas pool on the Company's joint venture
property at Worsley, Alberta.
The Company's 50% working interest exploration test well was
drilled to a depth of 2,255 meters encountering hydrocarbons
in five separate and distinct zones.
The Company has tested an upper portion of the Leduc zone
encountering gas and associated liquids which indicate
that the well should initially produce at a rate of
2 million cubic feet per day (1 million cubic feet per day
or 166 barrels of oil equivalent per day) net to
Northern Sun.
The Company believes the well will continue to produce at
this rate for approximately 3 months before it stabilizes
at a declined rate at which time the Company will perforate
an additional Leduc interval which the Company believes
will adequately supplement production.
A 600 meter pipeline tie-in to a third party facility is
currently underway and the Company has been notified by
the third party operator that there will be no restrictions
on gas production.
The Company will test the lower Leduc oil zone at a later
date to avoid damaging the existing reservoir from which
it will begin producing in 10 to 14 days.
The additional four zones will be tested when the Leduc
has been depleted.
The results of this well have validated four additional
prospective targets previously mapped by the Company.
Provided the discovery well produces as expected, the
Company with its partner will establish an
exploration plan.
Upon production commencement of this well,
total Company production will be approximately 240 boed.

Northern Sun is getting close to a JV deal on its Leduc Reef oil play which also hosts on the same acreage (in a different location) a nice looking gas play.
The 640 acre (one square mile prospect) located in northern Alberta's famous and prolific Peace River Arch area, has impressive supporting 3D and 2D seismic delineating both the oil and gas prospects.
If successfully drilled, the Leduc Reef oil play should be hundreds of feet thick in pay in stead of the usual average of 10 to 40 feet!
This would provide Northern Sun with a substansial increase in both cash revenues and reserves.

Jim Prentice, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern

Election should not delay pipeline -
Claudia Cattaneo Calgary Bureau Chief,
Financial Post
March 03, 2007 - CALGARY -
A federal election should not delay the proposed -
Mackenzie natural gas pipeline, the minister
responsible indicated yesterday.
Jim Prentice, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern
Development, said the file is being handled by
"excellent" people who will continue its momentum.
"When I became the minister, I ensured that there was
no loss of continuity.
We have really good people that will be able to sustain
this on a go-forward basis," he told reporters after
addressing a symposium on Arctic Gas.
There is speculation the government of Stephen Harper
could call an lection as soon as this spring to take
advantage of the Conservatives' surge in the polls.
The massive pipeline project, which has been delayed
so many times it's now about five years behind the
original schedule, will require key federal government
decisions after Imperial Oil Ltd., the lead partner,
finalizes a review of cost estimates by -
the end of the month.
The oil company is expected to look for substantial
fiscal enhancements to improve the project's economics.
The pipeline would transport gas from the Mackenzie Delta
to Alberta.
Under a regulatory filing in 2004, the pipeline
was expected to cost $7-billion.
However, analysts believe costs have likely increased
above $10-billion.
Mr. Prentice said some discussions have been held
with Imperial on the broad terms of the project's
fiscal framework, but more in-depth negotiations will
not get under way until new cost estimates have
been announced.
Talks with Ottawa were delayed a year ago because of
the federal election that resulted in the defeat of
the Liberal government.
Mr. Prentice said he is observing developments in
Alaska, where governor Sarah Palin has offered
as much as US$500-million in incentives to help
defray permitting costs and encourage construction
of the proposed Alaska Highway gas pipeline.
He would not say whether Ottawa would be willing to
step up with similar incentives.
"We will wait and see in the days after Imperial
and other proponents put forward the costs of
the project," he said.
He noted Ottawa has already helped the project in other
ways, such as by pledging $500-million in socio-economic
funds for the advancement of aboriginal people and
by incurring large costs related to
the regulatory review.

Northern Sun exploration , NSE @ .40
This one is starting to look seriously oversold,
I suppose it is the negative sentiment towards
NAT GAS stocks of late and particularly the trusts
and juniors.
But if there is one stock with a longshot of hitting
a huge Home Run it is NSE .
To start lets review some facts from the company's website.
Shares Issued: 61,518,974
Fully Diluted: 69,315,390
Insiders Hold: 14% of the Company
Institutional Hold: 44% of the Company
Debt: Nil
Private Placements:
July 2006 - $4.3 Million at $0.50 / $0.55
December 2005 - $6.1 Million at $0.65
December 2004 - $6.65 Million at $0.50 / $0.55
August 2004 - $3.1 Million at $0.30 / $0.35
Year-End: October 31
Now between Institutions and insiders 56% of
the O/S shares are tied up- and none of those
have been selling.
So who is selling??-
Not many as I viewed the past few months trading ,
most of the selling was done by Peters and ANON
( who knows who they are).
Between them they have sold a net 413,000 shares
of NSE in @ months.
Outside of those two barely any selling ,
so one has to wonder how many shares are left
out there for sale .
Now institutions are generally a fairly patient
bunch if they can see some big potential down
the line.
I believe this is the case with NSE.
Although they have been developing and producing oil
and gas, the real big payoff will be when and if
they secure a deal with the natives and
the govt in the NWT.
Northern Sun's partnership with the Ka'a'gee Tu will
allow the company access to the Ka'a'gee Tu
traditional lands -
upon rights issuance -
about 52 million acres by my math.
This is some of the most potentially rich oil
and gas property anywhere in North America,
and it is taking a while to iron out a deal.
But if you like the chance at a 20 bagger ,
then bet on the deal going through and exercise
some patience- it might just pay off big.

Regarding the source of my information,
I talked to Todd Hammon of NSE (866-869-8072).
I called because, after checking their financials
and mgmt discussion on SEDAR,
I was really concerned about their lowered
production levels (what happened to the 1300boe/day??)
and cash burn rate.
He assured me that they had sufficient operating
capital (remember, they recently closed a
C$4M private placement).
We then discussed the NWT thing, and he indicated
that positive news regarding the tribal
relationship was forthcoming but could not
discuss it at this time.
I asked if the news would be forthcoming
during the first quarter,
and he stated NO it would be earlier
than that.
He also stated that 43% of the float
was held by one or more funds
but did not identify them by name.
He also said that Chris Cooper owns 19%
(at least thats what my notes say).
Like most of us, I have a position
in this junior for one reason only,
and I hope they can survive this volatile
NG mkt until they can make it happen.

The First Nations in Fort Simpson and Fort Liard want to join
the Aboriginal Pipeline Group for a piece of the proposed
Mackenzie Valley gas pipeline, their chiefs announced Tuesday.
The Aboriginal Pipeline Group, which is composed of the
Inuvialuit, the Gwich'in and the Sahtu region, has been trying
to lure the Dehcho First Nations into the fold.
Fort Simpson's Liidlii Kue First Nation Chief Keyna Norwegian
said the two communities plan to create a company to collect
the region's 34 per cent share of the pipeline group's
revenues and hold it in trust.

Norwegian said polls and surveys of the Liidlii Kue people
during the past two years show unanimous support for the
massive Mackenzie gas project.
"This is strictly a business deal," said Norwegian who has
spoken against the project in the past.
"It's a way we're guaranteed to have some income coming into
our communities through the APG and ownership of the
pipeline."
The Aboriginal Pipeline Group has negotiated up to a 30 per
cent ownership of the 1,200-kilometre pipeline.
Its revenue would come from its share of tolls on the gas
that would move through the pipeline if it's built.

Oil prices fuel pipeline projects -
By Jeffrey Tomich
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
09/29/2006
The Corn Belt is on the verge of a new energy investment
boom, and this time it's not ethanol plants.
TransCanada Inc. and Enbridge Energy Inc., both based
in Calgary, Alberta, are developing pipelines that
would stretch from eastern Alberta to a key oil hub
in Southern Illinois.
The projects would cost a combined $3 billion and pump
more than 800,000 barrels of crude oil to be processed
into gasoline and other fuels.
The pipelines are being driven by America's ever-growing
thirst for dependable oil supplies, particularly cheaper
Canadian crude oil preferred by some refiners.
They also reflect sky-high oil prices that are providing
an incentive for oil producers to invest billions of
dollars in new projects in Canada's oil sands.
Canada -- not Saudi Arabia -- is the largest exporter of oil
to the United States.
Though an extra million barrels a day represents a fraction
of the nation's 20-million-barrel habit and
won't affect the price at the pump, domestic petroleum
output has been in decline and the additional barrels
could help limit, if not reduce, the country's reliance
on less-stable places such as Iran, Venezuela and
West Africa.

Harper government eyes stake in Mackenzie Valley pipeline
DAVE EBNER
Globe and Mail Update
CALGARY — The Conservative government won't subsidize
the proposed Mackenzie Valley natural gas pipeline,
but Ottawa's top negotiator said taking an equity stake
in the struggling project is possible.
"In the past … governments have participated in private sector projects of various kinds, in various guises, as equity partners," said Andrei Sulzenko, the federal government's chief representative for the Mackenzie project. "In those circumstances, those are commercial terms. There's an investment [and] because of the risk, there's a return to the taxpayer. I don't see that as a subsidy."
In June, Imperial Oil Ltd. — the lead proponent of the $7.5-billion Mackenzie proposal — halted talks with Ottawa for potential aid as it revised its plans and cost estimate, expected by some analysts to rise to $9-billion.
The former Liberal government had discussed various options with Imperial, including lower royalties and making shipping commitments on the pipeline, as well as "various forms of federal investment in one or more components of the project."
Official talks are set to resume this fall once Imperial has its new number ready and the company is expected to ask Ottawa for more help than it has previously requested. Informal talks have taken place regularly since June.
Mr. Sulzenko is a retired civil servant and one of his career highlights was being one of the main negotiators of the Canada-United States Free Trade Agreement. He spoke Wednesday morning in Calgary at a conference on northern energy development put on by Insight Information Co.
His comments on a possible equity stake were made to reporters after his speech.
He said it was too early to be specific about anything but noted that an equity stake depends on a specific proposal and evaluating whether it makes sense.
"I'm not forecasting anything at this point but I'm just giving you an example that an equity stake, on commercial terms, in high-risk ventures, governments have done that," he said.
The pipeline would connect three huge natural gas fields in the Mackenzie Delta with northern Alberta. The fields were found in the early 1970s. The government considers the project one of its top priorities, as it would underpin further economic development in the north.
The federal government has often played a role in the energy business, including the creation of Petro-Canada. It still holds an 8.5 per cent stake in Hibernia, the first offshore oil field in Newfoundland. It has the stake because one company dropped out when the facility was being developed and Ottawa stepped in to ensure the project didn't die.
Exxon Mobil Corp. -- the world's largest public oil company, with a profit of $36-billion (U.S.) last year -- owns one-third of Hibernia and is the main backer of Mackenzie, as it owns about 70 per cent of Imperial Oil.

Highway could cut pipeline costs
Global warming a factor
Claudia Cattaneo
Financial Post
Friday, September 22, 2006
CALGARY - A $700-million highway to the Arctic Ocean -- and global warming -- could save the $7.5-billion Mackenzie Valley Pipeline from escalating costs by speeding up construction to as little as one year, Northwest Territories' Premier said yesterday.
Joseph Handley renewed a pitch for federal funding for the project yesterday in a meeting in Ottawa with Jim Prentice, federal Minister of Indian Affairs who's also responsible for the Mackenzie project. In an interview, Mr. Handley said there's new urgency to build a "road to resources".
The highway from the southern Northwest Territories to Tuktuyaktuk would help proponents of the pipeline, led by Imperial Oil Ltd., with badly needed infrastructure.
While the concept has been around for years, such a project has become urgently needed because the pipeline is now threatened by escalating costs that could make it uneconomic, he said.
A permanent road would permit construction year round, not just in the winter when the ground is frozen and heavy equipment can be moved, squeezing construction to a year to 18 months, rather than the three consecutive winters now planned.
It would also help other growing sectors such as mining and tourism, while increasing community support for the pipeline, Mr. Handley said.
There are so few roads in the North, people and equipment move by barge on the Mackenzie River or by air, increasing the cost of doing business and people's cost of living, he said.
Ice roads are used extensively in the winter -- but they are becoming less reliable because of global warming, he said.
"With the warming temperature in the North, we have to invest in infrastructure. There is no question about it," he said.
Oil companies proposing the 1,200 kilometre pipeline, which was seen as marginally economic when its cost was set at $7.5-billion, are working on a cost review that is expected to reveal a significant increase.
Imperial and partners ConocoPhillips, Shell Canada Ltd. and the Aboriginal Pipeline Group are planning to build the line during the winters from 2008 to 2011.
"Imperial and their partners will build [the pipeline] if it's an economically viable project," Mr. Handley said. "They will not build it if the costs and challenges go beyond what they feel is a reasonable risk, and one way of overcoming a big hurdle for them would be to get on with a big piece of public infrastructure."
Mr. Prentice said the concept of building a highway has been around for some time and remains "grist for the mill."
"One would assume on the face of it that it would, but certainly [those] inquiries indicated, at least at that time, with the construction plans that were then afoot, that it didn't have a major bearing on the cost," he said in an interview. "But, it's important to point out that Imperial has been reassessing their costs over the last three months."
Initially, the highway could be a gravel road passable all year that could be improved as revenue from resource development increased, Mr. Handley said.
Pius Rolheiser, a spokesman for Imperial, said pipeline planners are still working on the assumption construction will take three winters to complete, but the planners are open to ways to shorten the construction window.

Northern Sun Explorations - NSE.V - US: NSEFF
Northern Sun is an Alberta-based NatGas exploration company,
currently producing 315 boe/d (June 13/06) looking for over
1,000 boed by the end of 2006.
NSE have an aggressive drilling program underway in Alberta
and Saskatchewan.
Company update June 13, 2006
“Current production is down due to natural production declines
and higher than expected pipeline pressures in the 3rd party
mid-stream transporters at the Company’s Lavoy and Grouard
properties.”
The exciting story however is a JV agreement in place with the
“Ka´a´gee Tu” Indian Band on several millions of acres of
proven gas properties in the Northwest Territories.
I have accumulated NSE shares as once a resource agreement
is settled between the Ka´a´gee Tu community in the NWT
and the Feds - I expect this stock to explode in price.
The proposed Mackenzie Valley Pipeline will run through
the south western edge of this property.
Property descriptions and links to excellent maps of land
holdings and the proposed Mackenzie Valley Pipeline route

Many retail investors likely do not properly understand
the true value and reasons for investing in NSE.
SEVERAL MILLIONS OF ACRES IN THE NORTHWEST TERRITORIES!
It’s really that simple.
The current drilling program with increasing reserves and
production in Alberta and Saskatchewan is in place to build
up value for investors now, while at the same time moving
the process forward in the NWT.
This takes time.
NSE management spear-headed by Chris Cooper have spent many
years working on this project, and will settle for nothing
less than a home-run. Since the process has its expenses the
current program of building NatGas reserves and production
is to pay those expenses and also build shareholder
value along the way.
These are shallow (400-1200 metres) wells that offer
a 5-7 year reserve life costing an average of approximately
$350,000.00 each.
Pretty straight forward development by successful
professionals who know how to remove risk.
Not a lot of blue-sky with current drilling but we investors
get paid to wait as they have been quite successful.
What is the potential of the NWT land package?
Easy, Paramount Resources http://www.paramountres.com/
reports production of 5,000 boe/d from their Cameron Hills
gas wells.
These wells are located within NSE’s massive NWT property
(often referred to as the Cameron Hills) and were
“grandfathered” when the results of the Berger Inquiry
stopped all development on native claimed land in
the 1970’s that has remained in effect to this day.
This was to allow time for the various native organizations
to settle their land claims and allow them the opportunity
to take a meaningful role in development of resources on
their traditional lands.
This is quickly coming to closure as currently only one
group is unwilling to settle, but it appears it is just
disagreement on details, not a disagreement of
the project itself.
It would seem that Imperial Oil agrees as they have
re-started spending money on all the detailed planning
for the route.
They have even set 2011 as the year they expect gas
to begin flowing south from the Mackenzie Delta.
Does NSE Need the Mackenzie Valley Pipeline?
Yes, and No.
The proposed pipeline route cuts through the SW corner of
NSE’s property, so obviously these millions of acres will
be tremendously valuable once the pipeline is in place.
But, there are several million acres on the Alberta border
that will likely be developed prior to 2011 once the Feds
and Kaagee Tu complete their negotiations.
There are a couple pipelines nearby with spare capacity
that can be accessed at a reasonable cost.
Agreements on something as valuable as this are tough
slogging as there is a lot at stake and each side is being
very careful.
The final agreement will set many precedents and will
have wide ranging ramafacations.
Since everyone now agrees that they want the gas to flow
and there is a sense of urgency for additional gas supply
to the North American consumer - I do not think we will
have to wait all that long.
NSE is not a stock for day traders, only for those who
understand the story and are willing to wait.
I am one of those and I expect the pay-day to be
very substantial.

Company update as of June 13/06
“Grouard, AB
The Company has completed an additional 28 km -
2 D seismic program over its property near
Grouard, wherein the Company has approximately twenty
(20) sections of full rights consisting
mainly of crown land and other leases with
the Kapaweno First Nation.
The seismic data has
been evaluated and seven (7) prospective multi-zone drilling
locations have been selected and
regulatory approvals for such locations have or are in
the process of being acquired.
The Company is also in the process of negotiating for
access to lands held by other operators where
additional multi zone gas prospects have been identified
by the Company.
Lavoy, AB
At the Companys Lavoy property, a service rig has arrived
and production from the Companys
fourth well is expected to begin within the next two weeks.
The well was tied in prior to spring
break-up but the Company could not contract a service rig
at the time in order to complete one
of the wells productive zones prior to road bans in the area.
Peace River Arch, AB
The Company was successful at crown land sales purchasing
two (2) new sections of land in
the Worsley / Clear Hills area in north western Alberta.
The Company purchased 2D and 3D
seismic data over the land and has identified at least
two (2) 2250 meter multi zone oil and gas
test well locations targeting the Leduc formation.
Successful exploration oil wells on trend
average reserves in the order of 100,000 to 150,000 barrels
and gas wells in the order of 5 BCF
of gas.
The Company is currently in the process of acquiring
the necessary regulatory
approvals to drill both prospects.
Fort Pitt / Senlac, SK
At the Companys Fort Pitt property its 100% working
interest exploration test well was drilled to
a depth of 800 meters encountering various
prospective zones.
Upon initial production tests the well encountered gas
from a shallow horizon, as well as oil in
the Mannville zone.
The well has
been shut in temporarily as the Company is evaluating
plans to re-complete the well as an oil well.
At the Companys Senlac property its 100% working
interest exploration well is producing gas
from the Colony formation, the McLaren was found
to contain oil.
Battle Creek, SK
The Company is currently reviewing candidate gas zones
and planning a re-completion program
for its six existing gas wells in the Battle Creek area.
The wells were drilled last year and are tiedinto
existing third party facilities.
The Company has scheduled to begin the re-completion
operations in mid-summer.
SW Saskatchewan
The Company is planning on drilling two new exploration
test wells.
The first gas test will be on
its Divide acreage targeting multi zone prospects to a
depth of approximately 1100 meters, as well as a new
exploration well on its 100% working interest lands
in the Supreme area testing similar prospects.
Both well locations have been identified through
the interpretation of 2D
seismic and are close to a third party energy trust
pipeline and compressor facilities.
Northern Sun is an Alberta-based exploration company

NORTHWEST TERRITORIES
Northern Suns partnership with the Kaagee Tu will
allow the company access to the Kaagee Tu traditional
lands - upon rights issuance - several million acres.
Currently awaiting framework approval from federal

(In plain english it sounds like forces are in play to
resolve negotiations.
Once resolved NSE will have access to one of the largest
and richest NatGas fields in all North America).
Brief Points from a conversation with
President Chris Cooper
March 16, 2006:
- NSE does not necessarily stand out from their peers
in western Canada, there are many other junior gas stocks
that are comparable
- NSE is a play on the NWT with their multi-million acres of
gas properties
- NSE recently paid $1million for a property where a high
impact well will be drilled, probably in June.
If successful look for 250-400boe/d from this, which could
be a substantial increase over current production.
Other properties they bid on in most cases they were
outbid by 10x - 12x !!

Mackenzie relief promised
DAVE EBNER
Globe and Mail Update
CALGARY — The Conservative government is honouring a $500-million pledge to northerners made by the Liberals to help mitigate social and economic issues stemming from the development of the proposed $7.5-billion Mackenzie Valley natural gas pipeline.
It is a major piece of the puzzle in the complicated development of the gas project and answers one key question, especially for first nations in the Northwest Territories. The money would be spent on issues such as housing, employment and business development.
In the budget documents, the Conservatives stood by the precise pledges made by the Liberals last summer, saying the fund would be paid out over the next decade and would be linked to project milestones and is conditional on the pipeline moving forward.
"In order to mitigate the negative socio-economic costs of the project, and in light of the significant federal government royalty revenues to be generated by the project, the Government of Canada will establish a $500-million fund," the budget said.
The fund is crucial to success of the project, northern leaders such as Northwest Territories Premier Joe Handley have said.
In April 2005, Imperial Oil Ltd. — the project's main proponent — halted most of its work on Mackenzie, blaming in part what it called unreasonable demands from northerners for access to their land. In July, the Liberal government responded with the $500-million plan to help first nations deal with the impact of a huge industrial project.
The Mackenzie Valley project involves the development of three major natural gas fields in the Mackenzie Delta and a 1,200-kilometre pipeline through the valley to connect with Alberta.
Imperial late last year said it was ready to get back on track with the project and regulatory hearings have been going on all this year.
Gas could start flowing in 2011.
Earlier today, Imperial chief executive officer Tim Hearn warned that costs to build the project were rising and were becoming worrisome. However, he did say the Conservative government and Indian and Northern Affairs Minister Jim Prentice were supportive of the project and were doing a lot to help keep it moving ahead.
Previous to today's federal budget, the Conservatives had said they support the $500-million fund in principle but never were more specific.
The Conservatives have budgeted $60-million for "assisting communities affected by the Mackenzie Gas Project" for 2006-07 and $60-million for 2007-08.

Dehcho chiefs OK exploration program -
Decision opens up two parcels in territory's southwest corner -

Fort Liard, N.W.T.
For the first time in 10 years, new land in the Dehcho region of the N.W.T. is being opened to oil and gas exploration.
At the Dehcho Assembly in Fort Simpson last week, leaders passed a resolution supporting new exploration in the Fort Liard region.
While the region boomed in the 1990s, exploration has tapered off in recent years in the southwest corner of the N.W.T. The Dehcho people of the region objected to development without a land claim in place.
Five years ago Dehcho leaders signed an agreement ensuring the involvement of all chiefs in decisions about development in the region.
Agreement hasn't been easy to reach between pro-development and more traditional communities. So the chief of Fort Liard, Harry Deneron, was thrilled to win the support for a round of exploration on two parcels of land near his community.
Deneron was elected in July 2005 on promises of providing more work for his job-starved community.
"Fort Liard, we got a large number of unemployed people and this is the direction they gave me to open up and create some work," he said. "It's pretty hard to create work when you don't have any resources. Oil companies have all sorts of interest in our land, so therefore we are going to work with them."
Deneron says the community has learned a lot about the industry since the last boom, and expects it will have an even better relationship with the companies this time around.
Dehcho Grand Chief Herb Norwegian says it's a positive step for Fort Liard and the Dehcho as a whole.
"We were able to pull a resolution together that accommodated the neighbouring communities of Nahanni Butte and Trout Lake and they felt comfortable with the resolution and so we gave unanimous support," he said.
The process to issue exploration rights for land near Fort Liard will begin this month with a call for nominations.
Depending on the interest from industry, successful bids are expected to be announced in January.
Deneron says that means there could be new seismic work in the region as soon as this winter.
