The China Wind Energy Game Changer
By Sam Hopkins Thursday, March 19th, 2009
China's wind energy market is still doubling even though the country's GDP growth is being halved.
That's because Beijing officials are using the global slowdown as a chance to recast the Chinese export market. It will be cleaner and higher up the value chain.
The World Bank just lowered its 2009 economic growth prediction for China to 6.5%— a dizzying drop from rates that nudged upwards of 12% in recent boom years.
But China's wind power capacity is still set for nearly 400% growth by 2013...
From a total capacity of 24 GW in 2008, turbines across China will churn out 117 GW in the next half-decade. That's a huge chunk of the worldwide tripling in wind energy capacity that the Global Wind Energy Council foresees.
Weak global consumer demand, especially in the U.S., has hit China's manufacturing base hard. But shuttered factories actually present Chinese energy planners and business leaders with an opportunity to strengthen wind energy's role across the economy.
Wind energy investment is not just a politically expedient jobs machine. We know that because wind capacity has been doubling even in years when the rest of the Chinese manufacturing economy was at its most robust.
Coal-fired power plants give China's electricity customers 80% of their juice, and the development of a Green GDP since 2005 tells us the costs of that soot actually knock a few percentage points off China's GDP growth totals.
China can afford to lose 3% of its 6.5% growth even less now than it could when it enjoyed double-digit yearly economic expansion.
China has to grow smart.
China Pays the Price for Pollution
China, the planet's biggest polluter, is being forced to "go green" by its own government.
The country has instituted "Environmental Liability Insurance" to pay back the victims of its ecological recklessness.
Wind Power: China's Top Post-Recession Export?
The GWEC says Beijing's government-led investment has created 100% capacity growth in each of the past four years.
Of course, we can't expect exponential growth to continue forever— even from an economy as dynamic as China's.
What we can expect, though, is the Middle Kingdom's half-trillion dollar stimulus package to go into smart growth that creates jobs. Wind energy fits the bill perfectly.
Moreover, the low-cost items that poured from Guangdong factories into big-box U.S. retailers like Wal-Mart and target will yield more and more to durable goods like wind turbines.
A combination of "soft diplomacy" and capitalist price competition could put Chinese wind turbines in an increasing number of African, Asian, South American, and other developing nations where China has made its mark in padding margins for plastic and textile companies.
Chinese officials say that a full 25% of the country's emissions come from export-oriented industries. What if China's exports turned the corner towards creating products that actually reduced net emissions at home and provided new clean energy sources for customers abroad?
We're in a worldwide lull that could last awhile. But it won't last forever. Now is the time for the few countries with massive cash reserves to use it in ways that will make recovery come more quickly and vigorously.
Clean energy exports from China will add to domestic capacity and make China the world's #1 wind energy producer by 2020, changing the shape of Chinese economic growth for good.
I think this gives us some life support and the realized gain in this is many months off. I have a small stake in CLBN and believe it should do well. I am somewhat suprised that the price has not spiked a bit more.
Chart is still bearish as far as the indicators are concerned, as soon as a few more start to shape up share price will follow.
Me, either. I'm wondering why anyone is selling into this news.
At the same time, this is simply a LOI and isn't binding.
CLBN .025 x .03 cant believe its not poppin on this news.

A mixed bag of positive divergences and bullish crossovers...
I don't have exact numbers but if memory serves it's something like 500 million A/S and about 120 million O/S.
I am considering buying some CLBN. I have a few renewable energy stocks in my portfolio including LLEG, who also received financing for their project in NH.
Can anyone give me the skinny on what CLBN is looking to build / timeframe?
TIA
Matthew

Navajo Wind Energy Secures Additional 200 MW Project Site in China
Monday February 16, 2009, 5:13 pm EST
Yahoo! Buzz Print ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Navajo Wind Energy Corp. (the “Company” and formerly Caliber Energy Inc.) (Pink Sheets: CLBN - News), today is pleased to announce that it has secured a new 200 MW wind site located in Xinjiang, China. This site is situated on 6,200 acres and is in an area with proven, high-energy wind speeds. Previous testing indicates a mean average annual wind speed in excess of 11 meters per second or over 25 miles per hour, capable of generating net operating capacity factors in excess of 50 percent.
The Xinjiang Project is the second announcement of many new acquisitions that Navajo Wind Energy is currently developing as part of the previously announced "China Initiative."
China's rapidly growing demand for renewable energy and the scarcity of viable wind farm sites to create the available supply, positions Navajo Wind Energy uniquely in this competitive market place through the utilization of the Company’s expertise and industry contacts.
Barry Doyle, CEO states, "There was tremendous competition from the largest players in the investment banking and energy industries to acquire this exact piece of property. Navajo Wind's access to proprietary information dating back to the 1990s allowed the Company to seize this opportunity several weeks before our competition. We are extremely proud of this accomplishment."
Navajo Wind Energy is currently conducting environmental studies to complete the permitting process.

CLBN could explode if Obama bankrupts coal industry!
Wind is the next big industry to explode.
Have you been to China lately? I visited China last year and the pollution over there is outrageous. Imagine sticking your face in a car tailpipe and breathing that’s what its like. Since coming back from China I have developed asthma and occasionally have to use an inhaler.
Coal supplies 70% of the electricity in China today and this has created a pollution crisis. 16 of the world’s 20 most polluted cities are in China. It is easy to understand why China’s government is placing such a major emphasis on Wind Energy!
Getting involved in an industry at it’s infancy has proved to be hugely profitable for savvy investors. Those lucky enough to get into computer companies like Dell and HP when they were pennies got returns that were in the thousands % wise!!!
I believe CLBN is going to be a pioneer in the wind power industry.
CLBN currently has some huge projects that are being negotiated with Chinese companies
I wanted to thank stinkeye. I was able to get out at .045 on shares I had forgotten about. Found money. Hope others did the same thing as this looks like it's going penny level when people find out that they bought the wrong company's shares.

Makes more sense!

If you don't mind me interjecting - this thing with CLBN is one of the funniest things i've seen in quite some time.
A Forbes reporter was on CNBC's "On the Money" last night discussing why the big integrated oil firms aren't doing any work in Iraq yet.
In the course of the interview, (i was listening in my car on the way home from work) he mentioned a tiny US listed firm called "Caliber Energy" that has struck a deal with the Kurds in the North of the country and is drilling on one of Iraq's largest oil fields.
Immediately when I got home, I went straight to Yahoo Finance and did a symbol search on the phrase "Caliber Energy". Of course the result was CLBN.ob. I was mystified to see though that the thing was like $.01 and had ZERO headlines of any kind. When I went to their website their was NO mention of operations in Iraq.
This got me thinking, If you run a company whose stock trades at $.01 - and you were drilling for oil in one of the World's biggest oil fields, you would certainly have a PR or two discussing it.
At this point I started digging further. After a few minutes of intense Googling, I found the company in question....
It's NOT Caliber Energy (CLBN)
It IS Calibre Energy (CBRE)
In an ironic twist of fate, CLBN a company with virtually ZERO operations anywhere in the world, skyrocketed 300%, while CBRE a company tapping huge Iraqi oil reserves was actually down a bit on light volume.
Clearly the markets are NOT rational.......

CLBN new ticker was on CNBC: http://www.cnbc.com/id/15840232?video=163022542&play=1
seems that Caliber Energy is doing a 1 for 5 reverse split.
another one bites the dust and chuck the few cents in the garbage.
bye bye caliber
caliber changed its symbol today.
are they starting to move a little ?
not really.
But there IR department no longer exists.
they have no address listed in the phone book
and the emails to the company get bounced.
however, there filings say that everyone is working from home.
AND they keep on filing with the SEC.
so part of me says they went bye bye with the money
and the other part of me says why keep on filing and paying accountants. just go bye bye.
i am holding some shares.
don't see this going anywhere. The pr firm that they hired does not have much information. Other then to say they are building the railroad. maybe I'll re-visit the stock in 6 months or so, but for now I am not seeing much
Anybody holding shares at the moment? I'm not really sure what to make of this 10-k.
Wow, just noticed they released the 10-k. To be honest I have not been following this stock and never got around to buying any shares. I'm mostly a technical trader, and I lost interest when the chart failed. I only meant to take over on an interim basis. If anybody wants to take-over please PM Matt.
