Nabors posts higher 1st-qtr profit, revenue
Oil drilling contractor Nabors says 1Q profit grew 62 pct. on higher revenue, investment gains
By The Associated Press
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/nabors-posts-higher-1st-qtr-235825191.html
Drilling contractor Nabors Industries Ltd. said Tuesday that its profit grew 62 percent in the first quarter, as its revenue grew and it booked gains from investments.
The company reported net income of $134.1 million, or 46 cents a share, for the three months ended March 31. That compares with net income of $82.8 million, or 28 cents a share, in the prior-year period.
Stripping out the impact of discontinued operations, adjusted net income came to 49 cents a share.
Total revenue for the latest quarter jumped to $1.84 billion from $1.4 billion a year earlier.
Analysts had been anticipating, on average, adjusted earnings of 50 cents a share on revenue of $1.8 billion, according to FactSet.
Nabors' results included $18.5 million, or 5 cents a share, in one-time gains from investments. The company also booked a charge of $68.2 million, or 16 cents a share, representing its share of impairments incurred by affiliate NFR Energy.
President and CEO Tony Petrello said that weak gas pricing in North America has made Nabors' customers hesitant to begin projects.
But the impact on Nabors is being mitigated somewhat by the company's long-term contracts, Petrello said.
"While we are fully aware of the challenges associated with the weaker natural gas environment and an oversupplied pressure pumping market, we expect healthy results for 2012," he said.
Nabors Industries Ltd. is registered in Bermuda but has its headquarters in Houston.
Its shares ended regular trading up 23 cents at $15.95. The stock added 43 cents, or 2.7 percent, to $16.38 after hours following the earnings report.
UPDATE 1-Nabors profit tops Wall St, fights US price squeeze
Tue Apr 24, 2012 5:17pm EDT
April 24 (Reuters) - Nabors Industries Ltd, owner of the world's largest land-drilling fleet, reported on Tuesday a higher-than-expected first quarter profit even as it grapples with price declines for pressure pumping equipment in North America.
"These downward pressures are mitigated somewhat by the long-term contracts we have in place on both rigs and pressure pumping," said Chief Executive Tony Petrello.
Through its pressure pumping fleet, which it acquired with Superior Well Services in 2010, Nabors is the sixth-largest hydraulic fracturing services provider. Larger rivals Halliburton Co and Baker Hughes Inc face similar challenges with pressure pumping oversupply.
Nabors' first-quarter net profit rose to $134 million, or 46 cents per share, including a $68 million non-cash impairment charge, from $82.8 million, or 28 cents per share, a year ago. Revenue rose 31 percent to $1.84 billion.
Excluding items, the Bermuda-based company earned 65 cents per share, compared with the average analyst estimate of 50 cents on Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
Nabors said the quarter included $18.5 million in gains from investment income, including a positive mark-to-market adjustment to the carrying value of its holdings in Honghua Group Ltd, a Chinese rig manufacturer.
Nabors shares were quoted 1 percent higher in thin after-hours trading at $16.12. The stock had closed 1.5 percent higher prior to the release of the results.

Oil Drilling Stocks At Bargain Prices
http://www.thestreet.com/story/10799612/1/oil-drilling-stocks-at-bargain-prices.html
NBR is extremely under valued imo....17 not bad adding range.
Nice that I added @ 12-14... Keep on going NBR.
15$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$''''s I knew it was add time here for NBR.
Way too low for this time of the year. Uptrend is happening.
Getting close to add time. With oil on the rise, 14$ is starting to look attractive for NBR.
I Think you are right. Thanks for the read via PM.
For sure, NBR should have never seen 8-9 per share. All shares bought in that range were gifts from above.
Buying on any dips should still be a good move, IMO. IMO, we are going to see this current market have some type of correction before to long. Just not enough "good" news out there to sustain where we have climbed up to from the bottom.
GLTY.
My guess is NBR sees a minimum of 33-36 a share leading into mid/late July. 42-48 on high side. NBR should have never fallen to 8-9.
I'm thinking about adding a few in next couple of days.
Oilslick. My NBR 9's are going to look a whole lot better in july I believe.
You bet. Should continue to see a nice steady upturn here for a while here the way the oil markets are shaping up.
What a bounce from 8.25. Now thats what I'm talken about.
Wouldn't surprise me cause>>>NBR is knocking on the door as we speak. 20 is nothing for this one.
It would not surprise me in the slightest.
GLTY.
NBR $20+ soon IMO -e-
A very nice, steady rise here the past few weeks. Still cheap, IMO.
GLTA!!!
And voila...she may have legs to $19...
Patience is key my friend. All good comes if you plan and strategiezzzzz accordinly. I am pushing it into full gear my friend
FCCN is a knockout in progress. we keep it in our vision. It is a real winner if people take the blinders off
We can only plant the seed. Never discount the underdog.....A knock out. Plain and simple
I still think your under estimating the potential of FCCN. Many ways to utilize these shares......IMO
I'm well aware of that, but you need to figure things out economically
Looks like 8's were the ticket.
