Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands: New Online Park-Pass Purchase System up and Running
Nic (NASDAQ:EGOV)
Intraday Stock Chart
Today : Tuesday 5 July 2011
Maine residents and visitors looking for a quick and easy way to buy Maine state park passes once again can purchase the affordable season passes online.
The Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands (BPL), under the Maine Department of Conservation, is offering a secure, convenient method of purchasing season passes to all 48 state parks and historic sites with use of the new online system. The online purchase system has been completely reconfigured by InforME (Information Resource of Maine), the state’s online-information developer. In test mode for the past two weeks, the system already is being used successfully by park-pass customers, according to BPL officials.
“We are very pleased to be able to offer this easy, secure means of buying Maine state park passes to Mainers and our out-of-state visitors,” Will Harris, BPL director said. “Maine state park passes are the most affordable way for families to enjoy the great outdoors and all the wonderful, fun experiences that our state parks and historic sites have to offer. Maine state park passes – and this convenient purchase method -- allow and encourage people to go not once, but many times, and also to many parks.”
“We want to give excellent customer service, whether it’s for Maine state park passes or for state campground reservations and this safe, secure online purchase system is part of our outreach,” Charlene Daniels, BPL reservation supervisor who oversees park pass sales, said.
The Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands offers two types of seasonal passes for day use at all the bureau’s state parks and historic sites: a vehicle park pass, costing $70, that permits entrance to all occupants of a 1-ton/17-passenger vehicle; and an individual park pass, costing $35, that allows access only to the pass holder.
Last year, more than 2.6 million people visited Maine’s state parks and historic sites, and BPL sold almost 12,000 park passes, the greatest number in the past 10 years, Daniels said. Some 10,207 vehicle passes were sold, with 1,236 individual passes and 282 senior passes, for people 65 and over, purchased, she said. BPL offers four different ways to buy park passes, the reservations supervisor said, adding, “We want to reach all of our customers as efficiently and effectively as possible.” Most people buy park passes when they make a visit to a state park; others use their Maine state tax form to make their pass purchase.
“It’s very convenient for people to take it out of their tax return," Daniels said. “It’s very helpful to us too because the purchase is made before the busy park season begins. Other people contact the BPL reservation center directly," she said.
Daniels said she initiated the online purchase service in 2006, realizing that “the technological world was beginning to take off, and more of our customers wanted to use online technology to purchase park passes.” Online sales have grown substantially each year, and last year, the BPL center sold about 2,000 park passes online, she noted.
There are a number of advantages to purchasing Maine state park passes online, the BPL official pointed out. Park passes can be purchased easily, conveniently and securely at any time of day and during any season, Daniels said, adding that there is a seven-day processing period. This makes park passes excellent for gift giving during the Christmas holiday season and for such occasions as birthdays or Mother’s Day, a big sales day, she said.
In general, “a huge percentage of people who do buy park passes buy them for gifts,” Daniels said.
The online system also makes it easy and effective for out-of-state visitors to buy their park passes, she continued. “It’s more convenient for them because they’re going to be in Maine on vacation, and they’re planning ahead,” Daniels said. “The park passes are a great deal and easier to buy.”
The new InforME system is simple to use, requiring just a credit card, the reservation supervisor said. Customers can reach the site through the maine.gov or BPL home pages, going directly to the website, or by doing an online search.
After reaching a welcome page, they then can begin the process by selecting the type and number of passes they require and completing the billing information. The payment service is secured through the use of the CyberTrust-certified Maine.gov payment engine. Customers receive not only their passes, but also a copy of the popular “Outdoors in Maine” map brochure describing all of Maine’s state parks and historic sites.
The system has been in place since June 15, and already about 125 customers have made park pass purchases online, Daniels said.
“I think it works very well, and it’s simple enough for people to use easily,” the BPL reservation supervisor said. “I have not had one negative comment about the new system.”

Utah.gov Unveils Major Redesign
Nic (NASDAQ:EGOV)
Intraday Stock Chart
Today : Thursday 2 June 2011
The official website for the State of Utah (http://utah.gov) unveiled a new look that delivers major enhancements to the nation’s most honored state website. The new Utah.gov design once again redefines how state government delivers services and information by using enhanced technologies and a cutting-edge layout to provide an exceptional experience for Utah’s citizens and businesses.
Key features of the new Utah.gov include:
•Search-Friendly - Search is the most used feature on the site – two times more than the next highest feature. In 2009, Utah.gov made search prominent, but in the 2011 version, search is unmistakable. Utah.gov’s search results are also expanded to deliver related agency information, office hours, interactive maps, and related forms.
•Community-Based Information - Utah.gov remains at the forefront of using technology to identify a citizen’s location and present community-specific information such as public meetings, jobs, and government office locations. Visitors from outside the state also receive a unique experience that showcases stunning images of Utah and encourages exploration for those who may be relocating, starting a business, or looking for great tourist destinations around the state.
•Simplified Design for Web, Mobile, and Tablet Devices - By using Utah.gov’s strong technical foundation, the new website is available to citizens through web browsers, mobile phones, and tablet devices. Social media plugins (such as Twitter and Facebook) are also standard elements across the site.
•Citizen Participation (Crowdsourcing) - Information can now be more easily gathered from citizens in several areas, including homepage images (via Flickr), maps, mobile applications, infographics, and widgets.
•Trending Topics – Utah.gov now provides a real-time view of the most popular services, such as the number of Utahans who are registering vehicles, or taking a notary exam. This provides insight into what is popular that day and shows all that can be done on Utah.gov.
“We are thrilled to announce the re-design of Utah.Gov. Utahans are tech savvy and they expect their government to be the same,” said Utah Governor Gary Herbert. “Economic development in the State has been a top priority and the new design focuses on utilizing the most innovative technology to better serve Utah citizens and business 24/7.”
Recognized repeatedly as the leading state eGovernment solution, Utah.gov continually innovates to deliver over 1200 state, federal, and local online services and 24/7 live customer service. Utah.gov averages more than 1.2 million unique visitors per month, the highest per capita visitation rate of any government website in the United States, including WhiteHouse.gov. Last year, Utah.gov processed more than 25.1 million secure electronic transactions through the official state website, mobile-optimized services, automated phone system, and point-of-purchase systems at retail outlets statewide.
“We are continually looking for ways to add more services and make them more accessible for citizens. Every year we add dozens of innovative services to not only make interacting with the government more convenient, but also to increase government transparency,” said Stephen Fletcher, Utah State Chief Information Officer.

The Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology (OSBC) recently released a new application at cosmorenewal.ok.gov, which allows licensed cosmetologists across the state to renew their license online.
“We want to make renewing a license as pain-free as possible,” said Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology Executive Director, Sherry Lewelling. “You just go to our site, fill out your information, and as soon as your application is approved, we will send you a new license. It’s that easy!”
This year, the OSBC expects most cosmetology licensees to renew online, saving licensees time by speeding up the previously paper-intensive process. Own a boat in Maine? Don’t be stuck inside when nice weather arrives and you could be out on the water. The online Boat Registration Renewal service, provided by the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and InforME, allows Maine boat owners registered in a participating municipality to renew their boat registrations online at www.Maine.gov.
This convenient service is available 24 hours a day in 145 Maine municipalities, with re-registration taking just minutes. Renewal fees and municipal excise taxes can be paid by Visa, MasterCard, or Discover credit card or debit card.
A confirmation page containing a copy of the actual boat registration can be printed and used as immediate proof of registration. Within two weeks, the official registration and stickers will arrive in the mail at the address provided.
To complete the registration, boat owners will need the registered owner information and the boat’s serial or registration number.
The online service is only available in participating municipalities, because local excise taxes and state registration fees are calculated and paid in one seamless transaction. The municipality must participate in the online service so that the excise tax dollars can be collected on their behalf. Citizens who want the online service in a non-participating town may complete a request form on the service website. The request will be forwarded to the appropriate town or city clerk.
Boat trailer registration is also available through the online trailer registration renewal service provided by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and InforME. Required information, payment options, and the process are similar to those for boat registration. For information on other online sporting services that help you spend more time outside, visit www.maine.gov/online/sporting.

Indiana BeachesAlert System Goes Mobile
Nic (NASDAQ:EGOV)
Intraday Stock Chart
Today : Tuesday 22 March 2011
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) and IN.gov strive to enhance services and increase the public’s access to useful information through new technology. The agencies have launched a mobile alert system to notify beach-goers of beach conditions and closings due to E. coli, a bacteria which can make water unhealthy for swimming and other recreational activities.
Indiana BeachesAlert monitors beach conditions and alerts at public and private beaches in Lake, Porter, LaPorte and Kosciusko counties. The new service supplements the existing online BeachGuard System, which compiles beaches’ water quality data from mid-May through mid-September. In the past, beach enthusiasts have had the experience of discovering current advisories or closings after reaching their beach destination.
With the recently launched Indiana BeachesAlert mobile website, beach-goers can obtain real-time information throughout beach season. The mobile website and subscription services interact with mobile phones for updates while on the go. The new tool can be accessed on a mobile device at www.IN.gov/beachesalert.
“I’m excited that we are able to enhance our services and the public’s access to useful information through new technology,” said IDEM Commissioner Thomas Easterly. “Indiana BeachesAlert gives Hoosiers and out of state visitors access to reliable and up-to-date water quality information so they can more fully enjoy Indiana’s beautiful beaches.”
E. coli is a type of bacteria found in human and animal waste. During rainfalls, snow melts, or other types of precipitation, E. coli may be washed into creeks, rivers, streams, lakes, or ground water putting swimmers at risk. Swimming-related illnesses are typically minor, including ear, eye, nose and throat infections while the most common form of illness suffered after swimming in sewage tainted waters is gastroenteritis. Those most vulnerable to illness from poor water quality are children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems.

State of Maine Announces One Stop Online Background Check Service
Nic (NASDAQ:EGOV)Intraday Stock Chart
Today : Thursday 17 March 2011
Employers and organizations can conduct a quick, easy, and thorough background check using the state of Maine’s new One Stop Background Check online service. Sponsored by the Department of Public Safety and the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, the service is available through the state’s official website, www.Maine.gov or at http://www.maine.gov/online/dps/background_check.
The One Stop Background Check provides a combined search of multiple official state databases such as Maine crash reports, Maine public criminal history records, Maine driver history records, and the Maine sex offender registry. Instead of searching multiple databases for various checks on an individual, businesses can now conduct one simple search in one complete database, and obtain a consolidated report on an individual.
“Consolidating the services into one search and report will make the background check process more convenient for employers,” noted Matt Ruel, Director of the State Bureau of Identification. “People still have the option to look up records through separate online services, but with the One Stop Background Check, they only need to enter search information once and will receive a complete report.”
Background check results ordered through the online service are typically delivered to the customer via email in a consolidated electronic report. The service is expected to be useful for employers, investigators, day care providers, and a variety of other businesses or providers who perform background checks.
Statutory fees are charged for the records where applicable, as well as a $10 premium service fee for the One Stop service. An InforME subscription account is required in order to access the One Stop service.
“Not only does this service provide convenience, but users can be confident in the accuracy and timeliness of the data they receive, as it comes straight from the official databases of the Department of Public Safety and the Bureau of Motor Vehicles,” says Clarissa Hurley, Online Services Branch Manager for the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
InforME, the State of Maine’s Internet portal, developed this online service at the request of Maine businesses surveyed in an extensive user needs analysis in fall 2009. The service was developed at no cost to Maine taxpayers, and enhances the popular suite of online business services available through Maine.gov. Other online business services include driver and title record checks, over limit transport permits, corporate searches and UCC filings. More than 1,400 online government services are available through www.Maine.gov.

Reciprocal licensure for architects and engineers is becoming important as more firms become national in scope and the slow economy has forced many to search for work outside of their jurisdiction. To aid in the reciprocity process, the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects (NBEA) is now offering an online service for architects and professional engineers who seek reciprocal licensure in Nebraska. There are certain requirements an architect or professional engineer must meet in order to be eligible for the online process. A complete list of requirements is available at: http://www.ea.ne.gov/license_application.html.
“The Board’s intent in expanding its list of online services is to provide more efficient and time-saving options for our professionals,” said Jon Wilbeck, executive director of the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects. “The new online resource also benefits our staff. Time that would have been spent manually entering data can now be spent completing other tasks.”
Applying for a reciprocal license online provides:
Faster processing: Users can submit information within minutes.
Cost and Time savings: Avoid postage fees and delays caused by receiving the application by mail.
Convenient Credit Card or eCheck Payment: Pay by MasterCard, Visa, Discover or eCheck at the time of application.
Information received faster: The Board is able to receive each application submitted the next day, which is imported into their database. No manual entry is necessary.
Licensure applications seek to gather a full record of an applicant’s qualifications and experience. Applicants are encouraged to have the following general information on hand before beginning online: education and degrees acquired, employment history, references, record of exams, and base state of licensure in addition to information specific to each application. Once an application is submitted, the Board and its staff will determine if an applicant meets all necessary requirements. A filing fee of $200 is due at the time of the application submission.

The Vermont Department of Taxes today announced the launch of a dynamic new electronic service for filing property transfer tax returns (ePTTRs) online. Built at no cost to the state over a two-year period by the state’s e-government partner, Vermont Information Consortium, the service incorporated requirements from key stakeholder groups including attorneys and town clerks.

Employers in the Commonwealth of Kentucky now have the option to pay unemployment taxes online using a credit card, thanks to an ongoing commitment at the Office of Employment and Training (OET) to better serve employers and the Commonwealth. By adding credit card payments to their online offering, OET has ensured they are aligned with the needs of a segment of employers who are both tech-savvy and cash-flow conscious.
“We continue to strive to better serve employers, and believe this option will benefit both employers and the Commonwealth by eliminating the need to write a check and simplifying the payment process,” said Unemployment Insurance Director Allen Larson.
Since June of 2008, OET has partnered with Kentucky.gov to provide employers with an online tax payment service using ACH Debit. OET has continued to see increased usage of the online service. In 2010, adoption increased by more than 150 percent. While OET still receives a large number of unemployment tax payments by paper check, OET is seeing an increase in employers wanting, and moving to, online payments as a fast, secure, and cost-effective alternative to paper checks. Employers interested in using OET’s online payment services can visit http://oet.ky.gov for more information.

NIC Earns Eight Cents Per Share in Fourth Quarter 2010; Total Revenues Increase 12 Percent
Nic (NASDAQ:EGOV)
Intraday Stock Chart
Today : Friday 4 February 2011
NIC Inc. (NASDAQ: EGOV), the leading provider of enterprise-wide, official state eGovernment services, today announced net income of $5.1 million and earnings per share of eight cents on total revenues of $40.8 million for the three months ended December 31, 2010. Operating income increased to $8.0 million for the quarter as compared to $3.9 million for the prior year quarter. In fourth quarter 2009, the company reported net income of $2.3 million and earnings per share of four cents on total revenues of $36.4 million. Fourth Quarter 2010 Performance
Fourth quarter 2010 portal revenues were $38.7 million, a 10 percent increase over fourth quarter 2009. On a same-state basis, portal revenues grew 10 percent in the fourth quarter. Same-state, transaction-based revenues from non-driver record exchange (non-DMV) services rose 22 percent over fourth quarter 2009 through strong performance from several key services, including tax filings, court-related transactions, motor vehicle registrations and payment processing. Same-state DMV revenues decreased 1 percent in the fourth quarter, while same-state time & materials and portal management revenues increased 6 percent and 8 percent, respectively. Portal gross profits increased to $14.1 million, a 12 percent increase over the prior year quarter. NIC’s portal gross profit percentage was 36 percent in both the current and prior year quarters. Cost of portal revenues in both the current and prior year quarters includes approximately $0.2 million in portal-related start-up expenses.
Software & services revenues were $2.1 million in the current quarter, up 65 percent from the prior year quarter, driven by revenues from the Company’s self-funded contract with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Launched in May 2010, the National Motor Carrier Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP) generated approximately $0.9 million in revenues in the fourth quarter of 2010, with associated costs of approximately $0.4 million. This drove a four-fold increase in software & services gross profits over the prior year quarter to $1.1 million.
“We were pleased to see double-digit same-state portal revenue growth this quarter, reflecting our ability to consistently deploy in-demand online services for our government partners. It is also exciting to see the continued progress of our federal self-funded contract,” said Harry Herington, NIC Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board. “We look forward to what the future holds for this service, as we set out in the initial stages of exploring additional federal opportunities.”
Selling & administrative expenses were $6.0 million in the current quarter, a 1 percent decrease from the fourth quarter of 2009. As a percentage of total revenues, selling & administrative expenses were 15 percent in the current quarter, down from 17 percent in the fourth quarter of 2009. The Company incurred approximately $1.0 million in legal costs and other third-party expenses in the fourth quarter of 2010 in connection with the previously disclosed SEC matter. However, the Company also received approximately $1.2 million of reimbursement of legal costs and third-party expenses from its directors’ and officers’ liability insurance carrier in the fourth quarter, which was treated as a reduction of selling & administrative expenses.
The Company expects to continue to incur legal fees and other expenses in connection with the previously disclosed pending derivative lawsuit and action by the SEC against NIC’s Chief Financial Officer. As previously disclosed, the Company’s directors’ and officers’ liability insurance carrier has agreed to reimburse NIC for certain reasonable costs of defense in the SEC action and pending derivative lawsuit. To the extent the Company’s directors’ and officers’ liability insurance carrier reimburses the Company for expenses previously recorded in selling & administrative expenses, including expenses incurred in the fourth quarter of 2010, the Company will treat any such reimbursements as a reduction of selling & administrative expenses in the period such reimbursement is determined to be estimable and probable.
Results in the prior year quarter included approximately $1.7 million of intangible asset amortization expense related to the previously announced acquisition of eGovernment contracts in the state of Texas, as compared to $0.1 million in the current quarter.
The Company’s effective tax rate in the current quarter decreased to 37 percent from 41 percent in the prior year quarter, primarily due to a favorable benefit related to the Federal research and development tax credit for the 2010 tax year totaling approximately $0.3 million, as legislation extending the tax credit for two more years was recently approved by Congress.
At December 31, 2010, NIC’s cash and cash equivalents totaled $51.7 million. As previously announced, on February 26, 2010 and December 30, 2010, NIC paid special dividends to stockholders of $0.30 per share and $0.25 per share, respectively. NIC used a total of $35.5 million of its cash reserves to pay the special dividends. Of the dividends paid in 2010, 49.42756 percent was a return of capital and 50.57244 percent was an ordinary qualified dividend. Stockholders are encouraged to consult with their tax specialists regarding the circumstances of their particular tax situations.
Fourth Quarter Operational Highlights
In the fourth quarter, the state of Montana signed a new contract with NIC, which has an initial five-year term with renewal options through December 2020. In addition, Oklahoma, Alabama, Iowa, and the U.S. Department of Transportation renewed contracts for one year.
Also during the quarter, NIC’s FBI “Most Wanted” mobile application was made available for the new Microsoft Windows Phone 7. Soon after it was available on the new device, Microsoft named “Most Wanted” its “Public Sector App of the Week” in early December. Microsoft also honored “Most Wanted” and NIC’s Recovery.gov mobile apps as winners in the “Federal App Contest.” “Most Wanted” placed in the Top10 while Recovery.gov made the Top 3.
“It’s been exciting to help government expand their communication with citizens through mobile,” said Herington. “We are honored to have our mobile expertise recognized by Microsoft, and have that follow the success we have already seen with these apps on the iPhone.”
Full-Year 2010 Performance
Fiscal year 2010 total revenues rose 22 percent to $161.5 million and portal revenues grew 21 percent to $155.2 million, driven by a full year of revenues from NIC’s Texas and New Mexico portals and steady same-state revenue growth. On a same-state basis, portal revenues were 8 percent higher than in 2009, with non-DMV transaction revenues growing 22 percent and DMV revenues up 1 percent for the year. Same-state time & materials revenues decreased by 9 percent for the year, while portal management revenues increased 3 percent.
Software & services revenues reached $6.4 million, up 47 percent from 2009 due mainly to revenues from the new federal PSP service, which totaled $2.0 million for 2010. Software & services gross profit increased 68 percent to $2.4 million for the year.
Selling & administrative expenses as a percentage of total revenues were 17 percent, down from 19 percent in 2009.
Operating income increased 34 percent to $29.4 million for the year, and NIC’s operating income margin percentage reached 18 percent in 2010, up from 17 percent in 2009.
2009 results include a non-recurring gain (net of tax) of approximately $2.2 million related to the previously announced acquisition of eGovernment contracts in the state of Texas. 2009 results also include approximately $0.8 million of acquisition-related costs (included in selling & administrative expense) and $4.1 million of intangible asset amortization expense related to the acquisition. 2010 results include approximately $0.3 million in intangible asset amortization expense related to the acquisition. 2009 portal revenues and cost of portal revenues relating to Texas were approximately $19.8 million and $13.7 million, respectively. 2010 portal revenues and cost of portal revenues relating to Texas were approximately $35.8 million and $26.2 million, respectively.
NIC earned 28 cents per share in 2010, up from 22 cents in 2009, exceeding the high end of the Company’s 2010 earnings guidance.
Full-Year 2011 Outlook
For full-year 2011, NIC currently expects total revenues of $175.5 – $180.0 million, with portal revenues ranging from $168.5 – $172.5 million and software & services revenues ranging from $7.0 – $7.5 million. The company also currently expects operating income to range from $31.4 - $33.5 million and net income of $19.0 – $20.5 million.
Portal gross profit margins for the year are currently expected to be in the upper 30-percent range, while software & services gross profit margins are currently expected to be in the mid- to upper-40 percent range for the year.
Selling & administrative expenses are currently expected to range between 16 and 17 percent of total revenues, while depreciation & amortization expense as a percentage of total revenues is expected to be approximately 3 percent in 2011.
“Our financial guidance anticipates another year of solid performance from our portal business with organic revenue growth in line with historical averages, and a meaningful top and bottom line contribution from a full year of our self-funded contract with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to operate the PSP service,” said Steve Kovzan, NIC’s Chief Financial Officer. “We also enter 2011 with a strong new state pipeline and an eye to expanding our Federal presence, both of which we hope will contribute favorably to our future growth.”
2011 projections do not include revenues from any unannounced contracts.

Today : Wednesday 2 February 2011
Switching to an online temporary tag system is being well received by Virginia’s automobile dealerships. Today Virginia Interactive LLC, announces that its web-based temporary tag system, Print on Demand Service, is now being used by 350 dealerships. Launched in January 2010, Print on Demand Service fulfills the requirement for all Virginia dealerships, whether licensed by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or the Virginia Motor Vehicle Dealer Board (MVDB), to switch to an online system by May 1, 2011. “PODs (Print on Demand Service) is working very well for us,” said Nafees Abbasi, owner of Maximum Deals Auto Outlet. “Since May, we have issued over 1,500 tags online.”
Virginia Interactive’s Print on Demand Service was the first temporary tag online solution to fulfill the legislative deadline and the only one offering a web-based approach. The free service provides dealerships with significant cost savings resulting from its “pay as you go” approach for just statutory fees. With the automation of the Print on Demand Service, dealers no longer need to travel to the DMV’s Customer Service Centers to manually reconcile log books. With the Print on Demand Service’s web-based reporting functions, there is streamlined billing and invoicing between dealerships and the DMV. Virginia Interactive’s Print on Demand Service also provides users with a dedicated customer service number and live chat for technical support during business hours.
“I appreciate the strong customer service,” said Robert Arnold from Cooper Corvettes and Performance Cars, Inc. “Now I am ready to issue tags online!”
Virginia Interactive’s Print On Demand Service is available at: www.pods.vi.virginia.gov/pods/.

Today : Tuesday 1 February 2011
The Kansas Department of Revenue (KDOR) encourages residents to file 2010 Individual Income Tax Returns online with the new version of the easy-to-use Kansas WebFile (https://www.kansas.gov/webfile). This year, the state is distributing a very limited number of paper income tax forms and booklets to save taxpayer dollars. Online filing through WebFile is secure, fast and paperless, and is the only method through which citizens can have their refunds directly deposited into their bank accounts. Direct deposit refunds may be received in less than one week, with online filers requesting paper checks receiving refunds up to 80 percent quicker than those filing traditional paper forms. In addition, paper filed returns do not qualify for direct deposit refunds.
WebFile was originally launched by the state in 2002. Last year, KDOR received 80 percent of the 1.5 million individual income tax returns electronically, up from 68 percent filed online in 2009.
The 2010 Individual Income Tax Return deadline is April 18, 2011. Save time and file online today at: https://www.kansas.gov/webfile.

Nebraska’s DMV Online Service Use Increases in 2010 LINCOLN, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nebraskans may have noticed shorter lines and wait times at the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offices in 2010, due to sharp increases in the use of online DMV services last year. Online license plate renewals more than doubled from 35,830 in 2009 to 73,472 in 2010. The new online driver license renewal service experienced a 25 percent adoption rate since it launched in April.
“We will continue to work with Nebraska.gov to expand the awareness and usage of the online option.”
.“We have seen an impact from the online services and the benefits provided to not only the citizens, but the staff at the County offices,” said Beverly Neth, Director of the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles. “Through marketing efforts, online awareness has increased and we will continue to provide this type of convenient service to our citizens.”
The majority of Nebraska’s DMV services can be accessed from a home computer at http://www.ClickDMV.ne.gov.
Customer comments on the online services include:
•License Plate Renewal: “Saves gas, time and is very convenient! Good Job!”
•Driver License Renewal: “It was my first time! Very refreshing to be able to do this online and not have to stand in line.”
•Reinstatement: “I appreciated the fact that I could access the website at any time of the day, and did not have to take a day off to go to the courthouse. Thank you.”
•Specialty Plates: “Excellent timesaving program.”
The Nebraska DMV attributes the increase to marketing initiatives it put into place with partner, Nebraska.gov. One of the key marketing efforts included putting “renew online” stickers on License Plate Renewal notices mailed to citizens 30 days in advance of their renewal.
John Ewing, the Douglas County Treasurer has been working with Nebraska.gov on marketing the online license plate renewal service. “My office has seen an increase in efficiency since the start of the online license plate renewal program,” said Ewing. “We will continue to work with Nebraska.gov to expand the awareness and usage of the online option.”

Nebraska Expands Online Registration for All Business Entities
Nic (NASDAQ:EGOV)
Intraday Stock Chart
Today : Thursday 20 January 2011
Today, Nebraska Secretary of State John Gale announces that all business entities can now file required annual and biennial reports online, with the most recent addition of the online Nonprofit Corporation Biennial Reporting. Filers can use the Nebraska Business One Stop Registration service to set up a filing profile and submit the required information. Payments for the online filings may be made by credit card or electronic check.
“Entities should enjoy the convenience and ease of filing online,” Secretary Gale said. “Online filing also has the benefit of easing the paperwork handled by my office.”
The expanded online reporting system:
Includes pre-populated information: allowing a simple and quick filing process.
Directly updates to the Secretary of State database: eliminating wait times for manual data entry, and instantly filing reports.
Allows payment by credit card: providing a new payment option not available to paper filers.
Eliminates the need to mail: saving on postage and/or runner costs.
The nonprofit online reporting completes the Secretary of State Business Division’s vision of offering electronic filing for required reporting for all business entity types. The online service launched in 2009 with the biennial reports of limited liability companies (LLC) and annual reports of limited liability partnerships (LLP), followed by biennial tax reports for foreign and domestic corporations in 2010.
Reports for Nebraska-registered LLCs, LLPs, and nonprofit corporations are due April 1. An entity that fails to file its report and pay the fee will be dissolved.

Intraday Stock Chart
Today : Tuesday 18 January 2011
NIC Inc. (NASDAQ: EGOV), the leading provider of official eGovernment services, today announces two Microsoft Phone applications developed by the company were among the top 10 winners of Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 Federal Apps Contest. Recovery.gov placed in the top three of the contest, with the FBI “Most Wanted” application placing among the top 10.
“It’s an honor to have two NIC mobile applications make the Top 10 in the Microsoft Federal App Contest,” said Harry Herington, chief executive officer and chairman of the board for NIC. “Our single focus at NIC is to make government more accessible for citizens and businesses, and the mobile applications we develop in partnership with government are just one way we achieve this goal.”
The Recovery.gov Windows Phone 7 application puts the functionality of the federal website in users’ hands. The application connects with Recovery.gov’s social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, and the Recovery Blog, and allows people to share photos of recovery initiatives and search for local projects. The original Recovery.gov website was developed to track spending and provide a resource for reporting potential fraud, waste, and abuse of the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Also available on the Apple mobile platform, Recovery.gov was the nation’s first iPhone application for tracking the Recovery Act spending.
The FBI “Most Wanted” application for Windows Phone 7 was one of the first government applications developed specifically for the new mobile device. The application features the FBI’s Top 10 Most Wanted, Terrorists, and Missing Children. Each list includes background information, pictures, and the availability for users to provide tips.
“These applications showcase how Windows Phone 7 can be a fantastic and unique platform for citizen engagement,” said Dan Kasun, U.S. Public Sector Director of Developer Evangelism at Microsoft. “I'm very pleased to see NIC's continued leadership and innovation with mobile solutions in the public sector space.”
To date NIC has developed more than 30 mobile applications, deploying the first government application specifically for the iPad. NIC mobile phone applications are available on Apple, Android, Microsoft, and Palm platforms and can be found by searching for “nicusa.”
