-- Company Reiterates Annual 2010 Guidance: Revenue Increase of 35% to 40% and Positive Annual 2010 NON-GAAP Adjusted EBITDA --
EnergyConnect Group, Inc. (OTCBB:ECNG), a leading provider of smart grid demand response services and technologies, reported results for its first quarter ended April 3, 2010.
Kevin Evans, EnergyConnect's president and CEO, said, "The first quarter of 2010 was an exciting time for EnergyConnect. We completed the selling season in our Capacity business and grew our total capacity by 33%, to 400 Megawatts (MW). As we sold over 100 MWs of capacity transactions in the first quarter, the remaining 300 MWs will be recognized in the second and third quarter of 2010. On the economic side of the business, we are encouraged by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's (FERC) Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NOPR) on Demand Response. In general, we continue to see improvements in the economy and energy prices are showing signs of rebounding. In addition, we remain well positioned with our software-as-a-Service technology platform as customers begin to focus on reducing their overall cost of energy."
First Quarter Financial Results
Revenue for the first quarter of 2010 was $7.0 million, compared to $1.2 million in the first quarter of 2009, due to a capacity transaction completed in the first quarter. Operating income for the period totaled $2.3 million, compared to operating loss of $2.0 million in the first quarter of 2009. Net income for the first quarter 2010 was $2.1 million, or $0.02 per diluted share, compared to a loss of $2.1 million, or $0.02 per share in the first quarter 2009.
Company Outlook
Andrew Warner, EnergyConnect's CFO, said, "Typically, our capacity revenue recognition model translates into 25% being recognized in the second quarter and 75% in the third quarter. Now, following the transaction in the first quarter of 2010, that revenue split should apply for the balance of our capacity business. We remain confident we will meet our annual guidance for 2010, achieving revenue growth of 35% to 40% over last year and deliver positive Non-GAAP Adjusted EBITDA for 2010."
Based on the current market outlook, the company reiterates it expects full year 2010 revenue to be in the range of $27 million to $28 million, and expects to be Non-GAAP Adjusted EBITDA positive for the year.
Discussion of Non-GAAP Financial Measures
We intend to utilize a number of different financial measures, both GAAP and Non-GAAP, in analyzing and assessing the overall business performance, for making operating decisions and for forecasting and planning future periods. We consider the use of Non-GAAP financial measures helpful in assessing our current financial performance and prospects for the future. While we intend to use Non-GAAP financial measures as a tool to enhance our understanding of certain aspects of our financial performance, we do not consider these measures to be a substitute for, or superior to, the information provided by GAAP financial measures. Consistent with this approach, we believe that disclosing Non-GAAP financial measures provides useful supplemental data that, while not a substitute for GAAP financial measures, allows for further transparency in the review of our financial and operational performance.
We believe that EBITDA is used by investors and analysts as an alternative to GAAP measures when evaluating our performance in comparison to other companies. In order to fully assess our financial operating results, we believe that EBITDA will be an appropriate measure of evaluating our operating performance, because it eliminates the effects of financing and accounting decisions. This measure is also significant to institutional lenders, and is considered an important internal benchmark of our performance. We intend to use EBITDA to measure our performance against internal performance targets, which are based on EBITDA. In addition, we intend to further exclude stock-based compensation and other non-cash charges in calculating Non-GAAP Adjusted EBITDA. We believe excluding stock-based compensation and other non-cash charges, allows for greater transparency in the review our financial and operational performance.

Reconciliation of GAAP Net Income (Loss) to Non-GAAP Adjusted EBITDA
(Unaudited)
We believe that the presentation of Non-GAAP financial measures provide important supplemental information to management and investors regarding financial and business trends relating to our financial condition and results of operations. While we use Non-GAAP financial measures as a tool to enhance our understanding of certain aspects of our financial performance, we do not consider these measures to be a substitute for, or superior to, the information provided by GAAP financial measures. Consistent with this approach, we believe that disclosing non-GAAP financial measures to the readers of its financial statements provides such readers with useful supplemental data that, while not a substitute for GAAP financial measures, allows for greater transparency in the review of its financial and operational performance.
We intend to use EBITDA and Non-GAAP Adjusted EBITDA to measure our performance against internal targets. EBITDA is calculated by adding back net interest expense, taxation expense, depreciation expense and amortization expense to Net Income to arrive at Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortization. Non-GAAP Adjusted EBITDA is calculated by additionally adding back other non-cash expenses, specifically stock-based compensation expense to arrive at Non-GAAP Adjusted EBITDA

I have been trading some of the Big Cap beaten up stocks on a regular basis......GE, C, AIG.....it sure is nice trading such liquid plays, no real MM games with the Bid/Ask.......you want to buy or sell, and your order doesn't change the Bid/Ask.....so much nicer than thinly traded stocks....
its actually not too hard to make some decent money with relatively little risk. I watch the QuoteScope on TDAmeritrade to get a feel for how the stock is trading, buy like 10K shares of C, put in a stop loss to protect against any big loss.....wait a bit for a sell when the stock oscillates up a dime or so......boom, another $1K in the pocket for sometimes less than an hour's "work"........a grand every few hours ain't too bad either!!!!
C (Citi) has been very good to me doing this.....and that's not including the big run up of the past few weeks (I hold a core, because it will be back over $10 easy when the recession ends).
GE and the Dow having a decent day so far......well, one good thing about owning GE is there is almost NEVER a lack of news......
If it’s too good to be true, it’s not true

True snake oil contains 25 percent oil from Chinese water snakes.
If you have aching joints, it may just make them feel better.
And if you need some, just call up our old friend John Rivera. He may just have some handy.
Rivera — the eager salesman — brought his version of joint medication to town in 2006. He set up a generator operated by a soybean bi-product and reportedly powered Vidalia City Hall, an all-terrain vehicle, a motorcycle, and a 1-million mile diesel engine.
In December of that year, Rivera’s company U.S. Sustainable Energy Corp., bought a warehouse at the Adams County Port, and company officials said the Natchez-based plant was supposed to house 200 fuel reactors.
But a few months ago — and apparently 200 fuel reactors early — Rivera left town, and began work in Baytown, Texas.
Last week, the skeptics among us got our first official backing.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission — a mighty official group — filed a formal complaint alleging fraud on the part of Rivera.
The document essentially says Rivera lied to everyone.
He talked of a biofuel process he couldn’t complete, the SEC says. He lied about the cost of the unproven process, they say. And, the document says, the company’s stock prices were artificially inflated.
Though this newspaper couldn’t reach Rivera for comment, a Texas newspaper shared comments in which Rivera said the SEC complaint was a “witch hunt.”
Maybe a better name would be snake hunt.
Rivera hasn’t been proven guilty of anything yet, though he faces not only the SEC complaint but a fraud lawsuit that was filed by an investor against him in 2007.
But it seems the forces of good apparently are starting to follow the trail of the soft sound coming from that rattle on his tail.
Many in the Miss-Lou have had their doubts about Rivera since day one.
I remember the day he set up shop in front of Vidalia City Hall. The crowd clapped, but even our young photographer came back to the office saying the show was entirely too good to be true.
Even still, others in the area invested in Rivera’s penny stocks. Phone calls came into our office from around the country as potential investors and financial reporters began to wonder.
The show continued when Rivera dressed up as Santa Claus and delivered Christmas presents to children at the Natchez Children’s Home and the Sunshine Center.
Earlier that year, Rivera Claus had donated $3,500 to the sheriff’s office to be used for protective vests.
If John Rivera has a cheap, nearly magical way to turn soybean trash into fuel, I hope he succeeds, makes millions and saves the world.
But, if Santa’s beard moves when you pull on it, well, then Santa’s a fraud.
Rivera has said he will fight the allegations and won’t settle the lawsuit. But if even one of the SEC allegations are true, then Rivera owes it to his stockholders to fess up now and do what he can to make the situation right.
Oil from Chinese water snakes is composed of acid, after all.
It can burn.

Rivera arrested for grand theft in Texas
By Adam Koob (Contact) | The Natchez Democrat
Published Thursday, July 31, 2008
NATCHEZ — On Wednesday John Rivera was arrested on charges of grand theft above $20,000.
The warrant for Rivera’s arrest was filed in West Palm Beach, Fla., however Rivera was arrested in Baytown, Texas where he currently serves as CEO of Sustainable Power Corporation.
Rivera’s attorney Richard Cutler said the charges were baseless.
While Cutler said he did not know who filed the charges he said they were “in relation to a previous company he (Rivera) was a officer of in Palm Bach.”
Cutler said he was confident the matter would be rectified in a few days.
Rivera is the CEO of U.S. Sustainable Energy Corporation, a company that leased a warehouse near the Adams County Port in 2006.
At the time Rivera claimed his company would eventually make 1.5 million gallons of biofuel a day

"""Soybean-Oil CEO, Wife Face SEC Charges By Colin Dodds
July 29, 2008
The SEC has charged a Natchez, Mississippi man with running a scam intended to take advantage of investors’ desire to get in on the alternative-energy business.
The regulator charged John Rivera, 58, and his Nevada corporation U. S. Sustainable Energy Corp. (USSE) with fraud. It also named Alice Price, 61, as a relief defendant.
Under Rivera’s direction, USSE issued misleading press releases about the company's business prospects and its technology to convert soybeans into biofuel. It allegedly did so from October 2006 to February 2007. According to the Commission, Rivera made similarly false and misleading oral statements regarding USSE, al as part of a pump-and-dump scheme that netted him at least $721,000.
Rivera allegedly told investors that USSE owned patents or pending patents that enabled it to produce biofuel for $.50 per gallon. The Commission charges that Rivera also falsely claimed that USSE had contracts for the sale of its product, which it could produce in a fully operational plant.
But the lies to investors didn’t end there. Rivera also said that USSE's technology, combined with the technology of another company with which it had agreed to merge, would be worth between $9 billion and $12 billion.
All of those lies served to artificially inflate USSE’s stock. After each press release, Price, who lived with Rivera at the time, sold USSE stock at Rivera’s direction. Rivera testified that, though they are not married, he considers Price to be his wife. Overall, she sold roughly 2.6 million shares of USSE stock.
In its complaint, the SEC is seeking disgorgement of ill-gotten gains plus prejudgment interest, civil penalties against USSE and Rivera. It is also after a penny stock bar, an officer and director bar against Rivera, as well as permanent injunctions against future violations. In naming Price as a relief defendant, it seeks disgorgement of her ill-gotten gains plus prejudgment interest.
With gas prices rising in recent years, and now over $4 a gallon across the country, a number of scam artists have seized on the opportunity to rip off investors who are looking to take advantage of the situation. In May, the SEC shut down a massive, $156-million scam that promised access to the energy business. The 21 defendants named had allegedly offered and sold interests in 22 separate joint ventures to acquire and re-work existing oil-and-gas wells and create a pipeline in Kansas.
Also in May, the Commission brought charges against Icon World Corporation and SUNCO Resources, claiming they were fronts for a scheme that had ripped off investors to the tune of $1 million.
The energy scams became common enough that the SEC published a warning to investors about them last year."""

Quantum Bit Announces Technology Transfer
HOUSTON, TX -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 07/15/08 -- Quantum Bit Induction Technology, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: QBII) announced today the technology transfer of a proprietary Nuclear Hydrogen Generation Device to Mustang Performance HQ, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: MPFH) for refinement and commercialization.
The Nuclear Fusion Electrolysis Device (NFED) is an affordable and efficient automotive aftermarket product that increases horsepower and reduces fuel consumption in internal combustion engines, both gasoline and diesel.
The NFED fits under the hood of the vehicle and utilizes the engine heat and available DC current to initiate low energy nuclear reactions and break to break the molecular bond between Hydrogen and Oxygen, freeing each to be injected in to the combustion chamber along with the petroleum to increase power and reduce engine heat resulting in reduced fuel consumption and a smoother running longer lasting engine. The device promises to be economical to purchase, simple to install and has no moving parts to wear out. The consumable component is water.
Mustang Performance HQ, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: MPFH) is an after market automobile performance and appearance facility specializing in the Ford Mustang and similar "muscle car" enthusiast market. With the emphasis on "performance," the client base is growing for cars of all makes and vintages.
Mike Clifton has established a well deserved reputation for quality work and fair prices in a business sector not famous for garnering positive accolades. The company estimates that 83.5% of their new business comes from satisfied customer referrals. Clifton reports, "We have been more than doubling our production yearly and an end to that production curve is not yet in sight. We thrive on restoring and returning cars to the road that others gave up on, but 'Performance' is our middle name. That said, the NFED is the most exciting, practical and economical device we have seen to date."
MPH, Inc (PINKSHEETS: MPFH) has established an equity relationship with Quantum Bit Induction Technologies, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: QBII), a technology development company focused on practical innovative applications of quantum technologies including power and propulsion.

Quantum Bit to Offer Gas-Saving Nuclear Devices
HOUSTON, TX -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 05/23/08 -- Quantum Bit Induction Technology, Inc. (OTC: QBII) (OTC: QBITB) announces plans to offer to the public nuclear-powered automotive fuel-saving devices. The company plans to introduce its first fuel-saving product for vehicles in coming days. The product is being developed in cooperation with Michael McDonnough of Remington Ventures, Inc. The company plans to sell the product in cooperation with Mustang Performance Headquarters, Inc.
Following years of investigation, the company possesses a logical and tenable physics model that explains the performance of "hydrogen generators" that claim to reduce fuel consumption dramatically. Company president, Mike Skillern, summarized, "There are many devices that claim more gas (HHO) production than electricity input. We believe the gas production surplus is nuclear in origin, fusion specifically. Everyone knows that you will produce more gas from steam than cold water for fixed electrical input. Low-level nuclear reactions in water would produce steam were it not for the electric field that is present. Since the electric field is present, the ions separate, the water cools rather than heats, and the gas production is large enough to defy high school physics. Of course, I suppose that's why college physics exists."
The company is working to amplify gas production by focusing on the suspected nuclear reactions. Said Skillern, "We believe tailored electric signals, higher operating voltages, resonance, and other effects can be inexpensively incorporated into a device which will result in much more gas production for fixed electrical input. With work and attention the gas production could be adequate to entirely power a vehicle without burning hydrocarbons. Until then, we will simply strive to lower gasoline dependence of vehicles."
Anyone interested in joining our effort to power existing vehicles with nuclear energy in a safe, clean, electrically controlled way should contact the Company. We invite inquiries from all interested parties and we appreciate any offers to assist with our work. We are driven to end any reliance on non-domestic oil and more specifically to end the hydrocarbon era of vehicle power. Concluded Skillern, "Americans love their large, comfortable, safe automobiles, SUVs, and trucks. We want to keep that love alive."
Investors are cautioned that the company is small and is working in highly speculative and very technical areas. Investors should become informed about our company, philosophy, and mission before investing. I think CHK might have put in a near term bottom when it hit 45 today...it had a pretty convincing bounce off that level..I guess even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile...helps to take some of the sting out of my TSO purchase from yesterday...an hour after I bought it some jerkoff analyst came out and downgraded the whole refining sector and what had been a decent gain turned into a loss...luckily got out of it early today before it did it's 7 percent plunge and bought Chesapeake.
I like what I see with TRN so far, doing just some basic DD......seems like a pretty cheaply priced stock.....
CHK, just a flip for today (nice!), or you in longer term????? I thought I heard somewhere in the news recently they are drilling for gas in two new fields in TX and NY.....
PS: general markets looking horrible today.....

for me, the DVR is invaluable.....a digital video recorder, or "TIVO-type" device (although I don't have a TIVO brand) lets you record video onto hard drive......if something is on, say, the History Channel, I record it at the press of a button, and watch at my leisure, skipping commercials......
one trend that keeps up with the ever increasing demand for storage is High Def, which uses like 5-10 times as much disk space as standard resolution.....one more reason I think the demand for storage will continue unabated....
I have had a DVR since 2000, when I bought a Sonic-Blue ReplayTV.....my wife, at first the biggest skeptic, now is the biggest fan of DVR, since she can easily record her soaps automatically, and skip commercials (wow, like 60% is commercials on those programs).....nowadays, I have an integrated DVR "tuner" that can record in HD, and rented from my provider......
now, don't ask me about my Sonic Blue stock experience.....classic case of great product, horrible investment.....(TIVO, which survives despite losing so much money, has been lackluster for YEARS)....

hah, too funny, guess I have to delete your post......
thanks for the picks, Nukem, very good ideas there.....now I need to do some DD.......
PS: picked up some GE today for diversity, and a boring +25% (my guesstimate) return SOMETIME within the next 12 months.....
How about we only delete posts that mention NSOL..I think that could be considered as universally offensive.....
I think your stock play there would be BBY..especially with the quarter that RSH put out today...they're up almost 16% on a down 200 day..if things are that good there they should be great at Best Buy....also GLW is usually a good way to go to play HDTV or Blueray....for the TV side of the trade anyways...
AUY...at 12.74....looks real tempting here...they just had their estimates raised to 20 something yesterday by some analyst..but got dragged down with the rest of the gold complex decline..this is a real good price on Yamana...NEM had a good quarter and is up about 4%...incredible buying opps across the board in all the commodity stocks...I think that whole rally in the financials is a lot of crap....MER...9 billion dollar writedown....UBS....7 billion dollar writedown....WM...missed earnings by $2...I think the main thing holding back commodities here is the threat of FED raising interest rates....SWC at 9.28...bluelight special K MART shoppers...
I like this new board...it's like a private clubhouse or treefort where you could get away from your parents and say and do the the things you want to do...like look at naked african women in national geographic and smoke cigarettes...hee..hee..
Cramer gave GE a big pump as his feature stock on the show last night but it went down with the market today...I was going to buy it but bought CHK at the last minute which is working out better than I thought it would today...was kinda scary for awile when it dipped down to 45..just gotta hang in there another 2 1/2 hrs...I wish the market would just close now while I'm still green....A lot of GE's decline has been due to their finance exposure but they never got any of the pop with the rest of the market that the financials did...as far as a pure play on wind your best of breed bet would be Otter Tail...symbol...OTTR....and Trinity Industries...symbol...TRN....is another....also Owens Corning is another way to play it....symbol...OC....cheers...N...
Very nice, I have two different portable WD drives purchased about a year apart, the latter is very stylish (red), it's thin, and the 2.0 USB is very fast. I've burned all my DVD's on it and plug it into my OPPO 980H dvd (USB input) player [with certified DivX playback hardware ;)], and it rocks..
I tell you what, although I KNOW that BluRay is slowly taking over, the quality and the frequent firmware upgrades [from consumer input!] that these engineers at Oppo have accomplished would have ME buy into this company if it became public. I've never seen [or heard] anything like it in a DVD player before. Seriously, if not for the storage increase, I don't know if Bluray would be a cost justified quality increase over the DVD quality these Oppo players can put out..
You can buy a player for $169.00 [130 w/ shipping 'mint' condition on Ebay for me], for the same or better quality of a 1,000.00 Denon player. OK that's my opinion for the day.. Don't know how this tranlates into stock purchases though.

"""Go west, young investor
Sometimes the market tends to leave old names behind and forget about them for a while -- until the company shows growth numbers that are hard to miss. Hard-drive maker Western Digital had its heyday in the mid-1990s as the Internet craze was grabbing hold, but had gone dormant in the growth category until the past few years.
Lately, shares have been on fire as the company has consistently beat Wall Street’s expectations and grown cash flow while maintaining a low earnings multiple. Once thought to be doomed as solid-state drives take center stage in memory storage applications, Western Digital continues to find demand for high-capacity drives in media products such as DVRs and notebook computers.
Obviously, things are going well if you can string together EPS growth of more than 50% over the past three years, as Western Digital has. The company is even gaining market share from leader Seagate by beating it to the punch with high-capacity drives for notebooks and aggressive pricing. With its current earnings multiple still less than 10, more than a few investors think Western Digital is set to take off -- even after doubling in the past year. Nearly 95% of the 759 investors currently rating the company in CAPS agree and believe Western Digital will outperform the market in the future."""

"""The bull case for Somanetics Corp.
CAPS All-Star pennysplants calls Somanetics: "a tiny cap health equipment company WITH CASH ... and an expanding niche. Would [Natus Medical (Nasdaq: BABY)] and [Somanetics] get together, I'd be a very happy camper. ... I think this is a very 'healthy' company... with good long term prospects."
Somanetics' key product is called "INVOS," a noninvasive system for monitoring changes in blood oxygen levels in patients at risk for restricted blood flow. While some might call Somanetics a one-trick pony, in April vanonuma referred to the company as: "the [Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX)] of Oxygen monitoring. Not too sophisticated, one really convenient product, easy to sell and easy for hospitals to buy. Patients don't get jabbed."
stoxmri views Somanetics as a buyout target: "The company has put a floor under the stock at 15 by doubling the stock buyback pool after telling investors they paid around 15 in the open market in April. They are going to have a positive earnings surprise on June 18 when 2Q will be reported and longer term will be bought out within 3 years by one of the big players, [Medtronic (NYSE: MDT), Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ), Boston Scientific (NYSE: BSX)].
Selling for a price-to-earnings ratio of 33, you might think stoxmri's buyout hopes are a bit of a pipe dream. They're not.
Although Somanetics looks expensive from a simple GAAP perspective, its cash flow statement shows that the stock could in fact be cheap. This is because Somanetics generates significantly higher free cash flow than it reports as net earnings under GAAP. Against growth that most analysts peg at 25% per year going forward, Somanetics sells for just 19 times its free cash flow -- which to my mind, makes the stock look cheap.
Time to chime in
Of course, the aim of this column isn't just to tell you what I think about Somanetics. The Motley Fool CAPS community really wants to hear your thoughts. Click on over and tell us what you think."""

ouch!!!......hey wiseguy, I'm sure you could figure that out yourself, but its about 20:1 with current PPSs.....which isn't THAT bad when you consider the historical range of the ratio, which has has swings from (about) less than 3 to over 30, and the fact EFTI is about 5 feet under.....
Yes, it is Castle Mountain in Canada, but just a random photo I Googled.
As far as Canadian stocks, nope.....I've never owned one, but came close to looking into buying Alter-NRG when I found out they had bought Westinghouse Plasma Corp....it would have been a good investment, in hindsight....
MLM, what's the current NSOL:EFTI ratio?
MLM, is that a photo of Castle Mountain in the i-box, once known as Mount Eisenhower?
Are you planning to focus on Canadian stocks?
Welcome!!
I'll start off with my two favorite stocks, WDC and SMTS.
Why????
Basic DD shows there are solid Co's, and also present some volatility for trading opportunities. I will be discussing these stocks in more depth in posts to come, but main points:
1) SMTS: has been buying back shares, good possible takeover candidate (I will be posting about Motley Fool discussing this).
2) WDC: probably the best positioned Hard Disk Drive maker, a field IMO that will keep growing due to the insatiable appetite for data storage in our world.....great earnings and fundamentals....

Welcome to the Grab-Bag board of MorningLightMountain. All discussion is welcome, but stocks are the focus.
This board was created to be an open atmosphere of communication, and I will not delete posts unless they are VERY offensive. I believe we are all adults, and can conduct ourselves accordingly (if you are NOT an adult, please do not post here). Remember, YOU alone are responsible for the content of your post, and it will remain for prosperity. Posts will not be removed at the author's request unless there is a very good reason to convince me, so think before you submit.
If you have a stock pick, feel free to post it, but a logical reason for the pick is always appreciated. Also, please post in GOOD FAITH (in other words, you really believe what you are saying, and not just SAYING it).
LEGAL DISCLAIMER STUFF: NOBODY HERE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR HOW YOU INVEST YOUR MONEY. THE STOCK MARKET IS VERY RISKY, DO NOT EVER PUT MONEY IN A STOCK IF YOU DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH THE POSSIBILITY YOU MIGHT LOSE ALL OR MOST OF YOUR INVESTMENT. IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME, IF YOU BUY STOCKS LONG ENOUGH, IT WILL EVENTUALLY HAPPEN TO YOU.
EXAMPLE OF SOME OF MY OLD AND UGLY "DOGS": LUCENT, LORAL SPACE, ROBOTIC VISION SYSTEMS, EARTHFIRST TECHNOLOGIES. NOTE THAT SOME OF THESE WERE NOT PENNY STOCKS (WHEN I BOUGHT THEM, AT LEAST).
