Activision hopes to attract indies with new mobile platform
Call of Duty publisher Activision has long stood on the sidelines when it comes to mobile game publishing, but a new partnership may see the company build a substantial network of third-party games.
On Wednesday the company announced that it has teamed up with mobile analytics company Flurry to establish a new publishing platform. Games released under the Activision Mobile Publishing brand will be provided metrics, publishing support and, the company stresses, users, thanks primarily to Flurry's user acquisition network, AppCircle.
The initiative is aimed squarely at third-party developers looking to get their games out to as many people as possible. Primarily targets are those smaller, independent developers who might not have the chops or bandwidth to support marketing efforts or scaling.
"We've seen this market develop to a multibillion dollar market, and it is not just a controlled by the indies, it's simply dominated by the indies," Flurry president and CEO Simon Khalaf tells us.
"We felt that the best way to approach the market is to simply help the indies organize and do a much better job of managing an audience."
To make sure the indies are listening, Activision's platform is keeping IP in the hands of its original developers, though the company was unwilling to disclose to Gamasutra what a revenue share model might look like, with mobile head Greg Canessa telling us they'll work with devs "on a case-by-case basis."
"With those smaller developers [we can] provide marketing, funding, resources, and a platform that we're providing to connect the games together into a larger community," he says.
That community includes those already playing its existing first-party titles, which has games from popular IPs such as Call of Duty and Skylanders, among others, as the company plans to promote in-network games across its titles.

WWDC 2012: iPad-only apps account for 34% of App Store apps
•Jun 11th, 2012
At today’s Apple developer conference in San Francisco, CEO Tim Cook told the audience that more than one-third of App Store’s 650,000 apps are iPad-only.
Cook also said that the App Store boasts 400 million accounts with credit card-enabled one-click buying. He added that by the end of the year, the App Store should be available in 32 new countries, bringing the total count up to 150.
What Cook didn’t say was how many of those the 225,000 iPad-only apps are paid versus free downloads. To date, Apple hasn’t made statistics available on how freemium apps stack up to paid apps; but app tracking company Distimo reported earlier this year that 74 percent of the top grossing iPad apps and 80 percent of the top grossing iPhone apps featured in-app purchases. Cook says Apple paid out $5 billion to developers from App Store sales this year.

GLU does have some pretty cool games.
Glu Mobile Adds Top Freemium Games to the Facebook App Center
http://ih.advfn.com/p.php?pid=nmona&article=52704819&symbol=GLUU
Glu Mobile Inc., a leading global developer and publisher of freemium games for smartphone and tablet devices, today announced the availability of several of its popular freemium games in the new Facebook App Center. The App Center offers Glu the opportunity to engage more than 901 million users through Facebook’s social discovery and personalized sharing. The Glu games immediately available in the App Center are Contract Killer, Gun Bros, Big Time Gangsta, Bug Village, and Stardom: The A-List.
“The App Center is poised to become a powerful additional discovery channel for Glu games built natively for iOS and Android. Facebook’s Single Sign-on and mobile APIs will reduce friction to implement social features in all Glu titles,” said Niccolo de Masi, Glu President and CEO. “We look forward to benefiting from opportunities for viral discovery by connecting more deeply with Facebook’s global audience.”
The App Center supports mobile apps that use Facebook – regardless of whether they run on iOS or Android. Users can discover new apps online and send them directly to their mobile device from the App Center via a “send to mobile” button. If a mobile app requires installation, the user will be prompted to download the app from Apple’s App Store or Google Play.
The App Center’s Single Sign-on means that users can log into Glu games with their Facebook credentials and quickly invite their friends to play. Users can discover new Glu games through an easy to use search function and bookmark their favorites for easy sharing. Existing payment functionality in Glu's mobile games stays the same.

E3 2012: Glu Bringing Out The Big Guns & A Cute PiG
http://applenapps.com/special-event/e3-2012-glu-bringing-out-the-big-guns-a-cute-pig.html
No mobile games tonight, still don't have a tablet. Keep blowing my money on other useless things.
My wife's coming home from a weeklong family visit tomorrow so I parked in front of the tv and played Rayman Origins for a while and sucked down a nice IPA. I don't often get to spend much time in front of a game before my better half tells me to go do something useful ;) ...so I'm actually not far in the game even though i bought it around 6 months ago.
Have a good night all
Anyone playing any games? Besides advancing through the Naked Gun, I have been trying out a lot of mobile games. Even found Duke Nukem 3D on mobile. Old school...LOL..And always have time to play Words With Friends with the family. I really like puzzle games to help keep my mind active at times.
Thank you sir. With the PPS down On DNAD, I have been playing more games and seeing what other gaming companies are developing.
Hey Mr. Pickle,
I've got on my watch list ECDC & ELRA, could be something there if you can figure it all out. LOL
I bought some DNAD today @ .0018 but being down 50% on my DNAD investment is a real bummer. I will be calling Steve tomorrow and have him explain to me how "DNAD will be a force to be reckoned with"! LOL
DNAD still has a great SS even with all the BS but if these boys plan on keeping investors they got to hit us hard with some good updates. IMO
Today was my last buy for DNAD till I get some sort of positive news.
I like your new board very much and wish you great success!
I promise I'll try to be nice, though it's very hard especially
after today. I'm going to Vegas tomorrow, at least the penny slots are fun to play, and you know what the rules are.
Have the best weekend you can people.
No bashing iHub members please.
Glad to see you Snowgeek. I am looking at a few other mobile gaming stocks. It's a hobby...lol
Only IHub board I'll visit today :) Glad to have another to visit.
I guess it should have be called mobile gaming board...I just added it quickly. Any name suggestions....let them fly

Any gaming company you would like to discuss. I just liked the word Dynamic..LOL
I see Freeze Tag Inc had an honorable mention at E3:
Freeze Tag shows off E3 lineup — Mobile developer and publisher Freeze Tag is showing off its new social mobile titles, Party Animals and The Grimm Reaper, this week at E3. Party Animals is set in a cartoon world where players build and customize their raucous parties. The Grimm Reaper, meanwhile, is a hidden object game set in the universe of Grimm’s Fairy Tales that has players going head-to-head with Death in order to save the world. Both of these games are freemium titles for smartphones and tablets. No launch date has been revealed for either title.
