Thank you, Sir.. Also If I didn't already Thank you for your service, Thank you..
My mistake. If I knew it wasn't you I would not have asked you don't you think
No, I did not solicit any response. I simply reposted his original post. Perhaps you should ask Dead Presidents if he ever got a response to his letter. Far more effective, don't you think?
Here's the link to his post, which you already know:
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.aspx?message_id=111423785
When you find out the answer, please let the board know.
Thanks for your great DD!
Sir, I wonder did you ever get a response back from your letter to Dead Presidents.
If we break $20.25 I will sell deep in the money Febuary covered calls on the shares added yesterday.
Core position, out of the money covered calls on bounces.
Sold MTRN yesterday for a short-term play on a biotech ... but will be back. Feels like China is going to weigh down the sector here for a bit so I think I have a few weeks to be on the sidelines here and maybe make some $$$ on a shorter-term play (TPIV, if anyone cares. Rode it from .37 to 1.70 recently, selling all at 1.40 and watched it crumble all the way back down. Think it may run again ...)

Letter From Dead Presidents:
Dead Presidents Wednesday, 03/04/15 09:50:27 PM
Re: None
Post # of 74864
Letter to Mr. Tom Steipp.
Dear Mr Steipp,
It is unfortunate that I am writing this letter to you to reflect the utter disappointment in yesterday's conference call and my complete regret in trusting your last words of encouragement of being in the "mist." Once again you have displayed a complete lack of understanding of your role as CEO, one in which you are highly compensated.
Your endless misrepresentations and misguided statements are repulsive and unnerving and can only lead one to ask: "what the hell are you doing?" You have continually stated, and reaffirmed, that the company is moving in the "right direction" with numerous prototypes and projects. Yet with each and every successive conference call you have back pedaled and offered feeble -at best- excuses.
Last October I had the privilege of meeting with and briefly communicating with Mr. Paul Hauck, your Senior Vice President of World Wide Sales. May I offer you a bit of advice: turn the reins over to Mr. Hauck and his team and allow them to work their magic. Mr. Hauck seems to be a man of unquestionable integrity, dedication, and possess a stellar resume of success. He is a no non-sense, straight to the point, and most importantly, trustworthy individual.
You and I, being military men, and I assume both commanders, know that every successful commander surrounds himself with a superb command staff. After serving twenty-two plus years as a United States Marine Corps officer, operating at the apex of command, I am completely disgusted with your lack "command and control."
While I still remain confident in the technology and the future potential of its utilization, I have lost complete "trust and confidence" in your ability to lead this company. It is unfortunate that this company will not fully see its disruptive influence until your departure.
While I am sure I will not receive a response, for it is apparent that you do not truly care for the individual shareholder, I am compelled to verbalize, on behalf of all the other individuals funding your exorbitant salary, our complete and utter disappointment in YOUR performance.
Please prove me wrong, please tell me that you are going to pull a rabbit out of your hat and save this company. Please tell me that there is something in the pipeline, something that will send this company back to were it was!
Sincerely,
XXXXX XXXXXX
I like to take profits and ride the rest when possible. I'm not losing sleep over MTRN.
There are other things much more worthy of concern, right?
Yeah, agree. But am now sitting on more than I am comfortable with for a long-term hold.
Added at the pullback ... And will keep a portion of it for sure. But I have to dump a piece of it to avoid losing sleep over the risk.
I'm long. I not going to worry about the fluctuations on this except to add if we get a serious pull back from these levels.
I think MTRN is a potential beneficiary of all attention to the fab / metal tech industries brought about by the Buffet PCP move.
But I feel like we have GOT to clear the $32 level or we're toast. Any opinions out there? I placed a huge stake on the fallback post-earnings and am at a decision point. Not worried about my long-term, just my outsized trade.
Materion (NYSE:MTRN): Q2 EPS of $0.43 beats by $0.01.
Revenue of $276.86M (-3.9% Y/Y) misses by $19.06M.
Ahhh ... Yes. But I'm a little taken aback by the response myself. They dos nothing more than give an (unusually) honest and accurate accounting of the impacts of FX and CN trends on their expectations.
But, thanks, gotcha now.
Did you see the press release/listen to call - i think you did based on LQMT posts; MTRN had to issue guidance and mentioned China concerns, etc. ... smarter folks saw this coming over the past few weeks, and the share price worked its way down, no?
I don't get it ... Please explain.
Guess we know now why it was drifting downward ... sigh. Oh well, long-term hold so in the end, not a big concern. Maybe a chance to buy some cheaper shares down the road.
Been holding and will continue to do so; as such, was hoping we'd get down to 32ish again -- would have doubled my stake, because I agree with you on this one's upside.
We're now back to hitting resistance we haven't battled for a number of months. You can sell again for a trade or stay invested hoping we cross. LT investors should just ignore and hold.
If we can plow through then technicals are restored and near term upside is in the $46-$48 range.
I will go with #2 and forget you said #1.
I'm not a current shareholder as my money is tied up in other investments, but I believe the company is under valued myself. Overall I believe MTRN is a great company that will grow immensely.
This may very well just be the market adjusting itself for the currency crisis that we're facing along with the pending decline in the markets that I believe we will see very soon across the board. Followed by another housing crash in 2016.
Best of luck to you!
Dunno. Been wondering myself. Only have two thoughts:
1. Mr Market was putting a value on the LQMT knife and ... Well Mr Market figured out this was irrelevant.
2. Mr. Market is adjusting downward the probability of an imminent world economic recovery and ... They're selling off materials interests en masse.
Neither explains what happened today. But the stock had held up well till very recently and is pretty thin so could just be an anomalistic event.
I've looked and haven't seen any news to justify the action fundamentally and, technically, I liked our chart till today.
If you see something please do tell.
Anyone have any idea why we've been dropping of late? Holder here at $29 and change ... not a trader of this stock but curious as to what has caused the drop of late.
They have great stuff in the pipeline and this was downgraded by many investment houses? Crazy.
There is a lot to be said about diversity. Take a look at Freeport Mccoran. Ouchy! Miners and oil getting killed!
MTRN holding up well.
JMO
I think you are right about MTRN being a buy at 31- 32 and below. I was thinking the high 20's, but after reviewing the 10 year pps chart, I would be surprised if the stock price got down into the 20's. The price has shown a steady upward trend since 2008, with a spike in 2010- 2011.
If Apple used their alloy, we probably wouldn't know until a quarterly report showed large sales and an increased profit. That would be great- real numbers showing solid, sustained growth is what stockholders value.
The price action is similar to another company, huh? With the difference that they know how to make a sale and they are comfortable enough to pay a dividend. Regardless, it's a buy at 31-32 and below, it's a sell at 36 and above. Of course, if Apple ever uses their alloys, it's a screaming buy, but I would think the spike would be so quick, unless you grabbed it at 32 and below, you'll miss it.
Form 8-K Current Report Filed Dec 3, 2014
Sold some MTRN today. I don't really understand the pps jump to $40 but decided to capture some gains. The pps has varied a lot in the past- I'll be watching to buy in again when the pps drops.
Just holding long isn't really paying off for me. I'm going to try holding some long, and also trading to capture some gains between the peaks and valleys of the stock prices.

When you say you are wondering what's behind the curtain, what do you mean? I just might know.
MTRN experts ... long time, no posty. Long on MTRN - avg. price of 32-something. Have some powder that I could spend here if we think we've seen the extent of the pullback. Anyone have any thoughts? This a long play for me, not a trade like LQMT and others I have been in.
Thanks, all - hope you're all well. Too quiet in here.
I re-read and took another listen to that c.c. - automotive killed them. That, and the F-35 pushback.

this is a no brainer if you are going long… they're inventing the new rules as they go. The companies that they work in conjunction with and the patents associated and the list of accolades in general say buy and don't sell
this is not just mvho
do the research
If you don't know why it's going up for the past six months then I suggest you start by looking into it.
Gradual accumulation over last 7 days.
Actually, no.... I like this stock. MTRN longs have seen a considerable increase in the last 6 months. And I still like it. They have revs and sell product. This might be a good one to go long in your 401 K. Been following for a couple of years, thank you.
Just my opinion.
MTRN has had a really nice run the last 6 months.
Hope you "locked some up" and "threw away the key".
Just my opinion.
Excellent question. I think MTRN is just too staid an investment. They look at it almost as an afterthought. It doesn't have the BS "buzz." It's a Warren Buffett-type investment, lol; look for value, buy-in, and wait. I'm not totally sold on mgmt at MTRN. If you look at the inventory problems, supply issues, poor earnings guidance, etc. It doesn't help that one fund filed that they reduced their ownership pretty significantly.
JMVHO, but I do think they will be up pretty nicely this year or early next based on what they've said to investors. The CFO and and an Exec VP (not sure about the CEO) all sold off relatively small numbers of shares with exercise prices in the 14-15's or so, so that doesn't help. I do think they are set up for a very nice year with the backorders they've stated have flowed to 2014 from 2013 and if they get any Apple, it will do very well, of course. It doesn't hurt that Gabelli put, at least one, if not 2 members on their BOD. We all know that doesn't always mean, though, that they are patting mgmt on the back.
I buy a small amount of MTRN every month and have been doing it for some time. The price of this stock can be volatile because of the very small float. If this pulls back to the twenties I will buy much heavier. If it were to fall to historic lows, as in 2009, I will move my entire net worth into it.
I am the forth post on here and that was the start of my steady accumulation. This is investing, pure and simple. The fact no one post on this board is exactly what I look for in a stock. The quick or fast money will only find this stock after it has long since run.
