US Postal Service raising postage rates for the holiday season
By Brooke Steinberg August 11, 2022 3:14pm Updated
Sending gifts this holiday season is about to get more expensive.
The US Postal Service announced a plan to temporarily raise postage prices from Oct. 2 of this year through Jan. 22, 2023, according to a release.
“The Postal Service has some of the lowest postage rates in the industrialized world and continues to offer great values in shipping,” the statement read. “These temporary rates will keep USPS competitive while providing the agency with the revenue to cover extra costs in anticipation of peak-season volume.”
Price increases will depend on the size of the package, how far it’s going and the type of parcel.
For example, retail priority packages up to 10 pounds traveling up to Zone 4 (a 301-600 mile radius) will see an increase of 30 cents.
A commercial priority package up to 10 pounds traveling up to Zone 4 will have a rate increase of 25 cents.
Heavier packages going the max distance can see increases of up to roughly $6.
Parcels impacted by the rate change include: Priority Mail Express (PME), Priority Mail (PM), First-Class Package Service (FCPS), Parcel Select and USPS Retail Ground. International USPS products will not be affected.
Price adjustments will vary based on the weight of the packages, as well as whether the packages have commercial or retail postage.
The temporary increase is similar to ones in previous years and will help cover extra handling costs during the peak holiday season, according to USPS.
USPS said the price initiatives line up with their 10-year-plan to achieve financial sustainability service excellence, Delivering for America.
The Postal Service filed notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission Wednesday to seek final review, and price hikes will take affect pending the review.

I agree they have nothing. If they
did it wouldn't have taken 10 hours for 30 agents to search the place. They were doing something else while they were there. Then on the other hand the FBI is so incompetent
now maybe it did take 30 of their people that long!
“They Have Nothing, They Have Absolutely Nothing” – Trump Attorney Christina Bobb on the FBI’s Raid on Mar-a-Lago on Monday (VIDEO)
https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2022/08/nothing-absolutely-nothing-trump-attorney-christina-bobb-fbis-raid-mar-lago-monday-video/
In regards to the warrant, the President’s team does have a copy. She saw the judge’s name but not the prosecutor’s name. She also said that it’s not up to the President to provide the warrant. The DOJ and FBI made the decision to raid President Trump’s home so they can release the warrant. They have the duty to provide to the American people their reasoning for the raid – and it better be a good reason.
....
Bobb doesn’t really know what they took. It was very generic.
Someone is a liar
I got one lb of burger done now doing a double batch. I hollered come on sweet pea and he came a running to clean out the one frying pan. He's so darn cute. I know you guys won't believe this but Marc helped me with the onion chopper. Now, chicken in the bread pan picking out dough, LOL
I think I need to chill. Feel free to enjoy this fine playing.

Armed gunman threatens FBI building in Ohio, sparking shootout days after Trump raid
By Callie Patteson August 11, 2022 12:18pm Updated
Authorities in Ohio were locked in a standoff Thursday with an armed man who made threats against the FBI building in Cincinnati, sparking a chase and shootout.
The incident began after the gunman “attempted to breach the Visitor Screening Facility” at around 9 a.m., the FBI’s Cincinnati office confirmed, adding that the suspect fled north “after an alarm and a response by FBI special agents.”
NBC News, citing two sources, reported that the man fired a nail gun toward FBI personnel at the agency building and flashed an AR-15 style rifle before fleeing.
Law enforcement shut down Interstate 71 and State Route 73 in both directions and issued a lockdown order for residents in Clinton County northeast of the city, the county’s Emergency Management Agency said in a Facebook post.
The EMA added that the suspect was wearing a gray shirt and body armor.
Law enforcement later exchanged fire with the suspect during a standoff in a cornfield, according to Ohio’s News Journal. Clinton County EMA later confirmed shots were fired between law enforcement and the suspect, but did not specify where.
The FBI, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and local law enforcement are on scene near the city of Wilmington responding to the incident, FBI Cincinnati said just before noon. The Red Cross was also on scene providing support to first responders.
At around 12:30 p.m. the EMA said the suspect had not yet been taken into custody but “is contained.” The lockdown in the region remained in effect, but there was no longer an active threat at the Cincinnati FBI building.
The incident comes three days after the FBI raided former President Donald Trump’s estate at Mar-a-Lago in Florida based on a warrant that dealt with presidential records and evidence of classified information being improperly stored at the resort.
Soon after the search, many Trump supporters as well as far-right extremists took to social media to defend the former president – while posting violent rhetoric targeting federal agents.
FBI director Christopher Wray condemned the possible threats on Wednesday, calling them “deplorable and dangerous.”
“I’m always concerned about threats to law enforcement,” Wray said following a visit to the FBI’s field office in Omaha, Neb. “Violence against law enforcement is not the answer, no matter who you’re upset with.”
It was not immediately clear if Thursday’s incident had any connection to the Florida raid.

Abbott's op-ed: NYC, DC mayors now see our border crisis is real. They should call on Biden to step up
Biden's reckless disregard for immigration and our border have captured the attention of New York and DC mayors. Maybe these Dems can get him to act
By Gov. Greg Abbott | Fox News Published August 11, 2022 2:00am EDT
Last week, I formally invited the mayors of New York City and Washington, D.C. to Texas’ southern border to see firsthand the situation that Washington’s Mayor Muriel Bowser recently described as a humanitarian crisis. She has emphasized that the flow of migrants into her city is a "federal issue that demands a federal response." Finally, something reasonable from a D.C. official.
President Joe Biden’s irresponsible open border policies have invited record-high numbers of illegal immigrants and transnational criminal activity directly into communities, not only in Texas but across the nation.
As governor of a southern border state, I have had to deploy unprecedented amounts of state resources--including more than $3 billion over the past 18 months--to the Texas National Guard, Texas Department of Public Safety, and local partners to help address the president’s national security failure and ensure the safety of Texans.
In response to the Biden administration’s unconscionable disregard for the southern border, I launched Operation Lone Star in March 2021 in partnership with these state agencies to protect Texans in communities. Thousands of deployed troopers and guardsmen are utilizing air, ground, and tactical border assets to combat Mexican drug cartels and other criminals who smuggle drugs and people into the U.S.
As of late July, the mission has led to more than 290,000 migrant apprehensions and the seizure of nearly 326 million lethal doses of fentanyl--enough to kill almost every American. With Texas bearing the brunt of the president’s catastrophic failure, in April I directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to begin busing migrants to Washington, D.C. to provide relief to overrun border communities and bring the reality of the crisis to the federal government’s doorstep.
It was not long before Mayor Bowser began decrying the mission after receiving only a fraction of what Texas law enforcement encounter each day along the border. Mayor Bowser went so far as to request indefinite federal assistance from the National Guard to help D.C. cope with the humanitarian crisis.
The mayors are not alone in their concern over the flow of migrants into their cities, with their Democratic counterparts in south Texas truly overwhelmed by the crisis.
Laredo Mayor Pete Saenz has said his city is being overrun with migrants that U.S. Border Patrol dumps there. "We’re taking the overflow [from McAllen and the Rio Grande Valley]. We can’t handle it here."
McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos has said he needs as much federal support as possible "because we cannot be doing a federal job. This is not our responsibility. We’re just trying to keep our people safe." He’s called the Biden administration’s response to his pleas "a callous disregard, to have Border Patrol just drop off immigrants in downtown McAllen."
DC Mayor Bowser, who invited illegal immigrants, calls migrant issue a crisisVideo
If the mayors of America’s most populous city and the nation’s capital are complaining about a few thousand migrants, imagine what these small border communities with more limited resources face on the frontlines.
The New York City and D.C. mayors’ recent interest in this relentless crisis is a welcome departure from willful ignorance the Biden administration continues to demonstrate.
President Biden has never visited the border to understand the magnitude of the crisis he created. His "Border Czar" Vice President Kamala Harris has similarly taken no meaningful actions to address the gravity of the situation, except one visit to the El Paso sector over a year ago. U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas recently testified that the southern border is "safe and secure." As thousands of illegal immigrants cross the border each day, that statement is either shockingly uninformed or intentionally deceptive.
Regardless of the federal government’s indifference, a dangerous situation continues to intensify. Fentanyl is now the leading cause of death for Americans ages 18 to 45, but President Biden allows it to continue pouring across the border from Mexico.
Too frequently, we’ve witnessed the horrifying consequences of human smuggling and trafficking, yet Mexican cartels and other transnational criminals are emboldened to carry on with their deadly enterprises.
As Mayors Adams and Bowser recently acknowledged, the border crisis demands immediate and decisive federal action. I ask that they call on President Biden to stop dismissing this crisis and to honor his duty of preserving America’s national security.

Gov. Abbott rips Biden in op-ed on sending migrants to NYC, DC
By Callie Patteson August 11, 2022 10:20am Updated
Mayor Eric Adams and his DC counterpart Muriel Bowser should wake the Biden administration up from its “willful ignorance” regarding the border crisis, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Thursday — as he continues to send busloads of illegal migrants to progressive East Coast cities.
In a new op-ed published by Fox News, the Republican governor insisted his bold plan highlights the strain President Biden’s open border policy has on border towns — and the naivety of Democrat-run liberal cities to this reality.
“If the mayors of America’s most populous city and the nation’s capital are complaining about a few thousand migrants, imagine what these small border communities with more limited resources face on the frontlines,” Abbott wrote.
“The New York City and D.C. mayors’ recent interest in this relentless crisis is a welcome departure from willful ignorance the Biden administration continues to demonstrate.”
The Texas lawmaker called on the Democrat mayors to use their newfound experience to implore President Biden to “stop dismissing this crisis.”
“As Mayors Adams and Bowser recently acknowledged, the border crisis demands immediate and decisive federal action. I ask that they call on President Biden to stop dismissing this crisis and to honor his duty of preserving America’s national security,” he wrote.
In recent weeks, both Adams and Bowser have asked the federal government for help to manage the influx of migrants into their cities.
In mid-July, the New York City mayor urged Biden to send “additional federal resources immediately” as the swarm of asylum seekers overcrowded the city’s homeless shelters.
Around the same time, Bowser issued a request to the Department of Defense for 150 DC National Guard personnel each day to ensure a “24/7 operation” in receiving the migrants.
She also requested the use of the DC Armory, or “another suitable federal location in the National Capital Region” for a temporary processing center.
The Pentagon later denied her request.
Abbott’s op-ed came just days after the Biden administration moved to phase out the Trump-era “Remain in Mexico” immigration policy that forced tens of thousands of people to return across the southern border to wait for their immigration proceedings.
While the administration insists the order did not deter migration, Republicans have warned that lifting the policy could lead to increased border crossings at a time when crossing are already at historic highs.
Meanwhile, Gov. Abbott launched “Operation Lone Star” to protect border communities in early 2022, as his first busload of migrants arrived in the Big Apple and DC.
Abbott revealed that the mission has led to over 290,000 migrant apprehensions and the seizure of nearly 326 million lethal doses of fentanyl as of late July.
“Regardless of the federal government’s indifference, a dangerous situation continues to intensify. Fentanyl is now the leading cause of death for Americans ages 18 to 45, but President Biden allows it to continue pouring across the border from Mexico,” Abbott wrote.
“Too frequently, we’ve witnessed the horrifying consequences of human smuggling and trafficking, yet Mexican cartels and other transnational criminals are emboldened to carry on with their deadly enterprises,” he continued.
Abbott also blasted the administration’s apparent lack of assistance Thursday, criticizing Biden’s failure to travel to the border during his time in office so far.
“President Biden has never visited the border to understand the magnitude of the crisis he created. His ‘Border Czar’ Vice President Kamala Harris has similarly taken no meaningful actions to address the gravity of the situation, except one visit to the El Paso sector over a year ago,” Abbott wrote.
“U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas recently testified that the southern border is ‘safe and secure.’ As thousands of illegal immigrants cross the border each day, that statement is either shockingly uninformed or intentionally deceptive.”

Whole Foods CEO John Mackey ‘concerned’ that ‘socialists are taking over’
By Lee Brown August 11, 2022 7:32am Updated
(I'm looking forward to hearing what Mr. Mackey has to say six weeks from now. He's off to a good start with this.)
Whole Foods co-founder and exiting CEO John Mackey has said he is “deeply concerned” that “socialists are taking over” the country.
“They’re marching through the institutions — they’re taking everything over,” the 68-year-old executive told Reason magazine in an interview just weeks before he finally steps down from the supermarket giant.
“They’ve taken over education. It looks like they’ve taken over a lot of the corporations. It looks like they’ve taken over the military,” he said of his main “concern.”
“And it’s just continuing,” he warned.
He described himself as a “capitalist at heart” and said he believes in liberty.
“And I feel like with the way freedom of speech is today — the movement on gun control — a lot of the liberties that I’ve taken for granted most of my life, I think, are under threat,” he said.
Mackey complained that increased unemployment benefits offered during the pandemic put a real strain on Whole Foods’ ability to hire staff.
“A lot of people were making as much money, if not more money, not working at all. And so guess what? They chose not to come back to work. They got used to it,” he said.
However, the biggest hiring crisis has been because “the younger generation … don’t seem to want to work,” he said.
“They only wanna work if it’s really purposeful, and (something) they feel aligned to,” he said of a shift to woke principles, noting it was particularly in major Democratic cities including the Big Apple.
“You can’t hope to start with meaningful work. You’re gonna have to earn it over time,” he said. “Some of the younger generation doesn’t seem to be willing to pay that price, and I don’t know why.” (I think I do. They were raised to think everyone wins a prize without earning it.)
Mackey promised that the interview was only a teaser of what was to come, saying that his role leading such a giant corporation left him “intimidated enough to shut up.”
“Pretty soon, you’re gonna hear about ‘Crazy John’ who’s no longer muzzled,” he said, laughing when asked if his main future plan was to embarrass the company he spent 44 years growing.
“I’ve got six weeks. I can talk more about politics in six weeks than I can today,” he told Reason’s editor at large, Nick Gillespie.

Meta chatbot says boss Mark Zuckerberg is ‘too creepy and manipulative’
By Ariel Zilber August 11, 2022 12:19pm Updated
(The tweets are at the link. I like the original answer BlenderBot gave about the stolen election. Looks like the cancel culture crowd went in and did some coding changes though.)
Facebook’s parent company Meta introduced an artificial intelligence-powered chatbot that said founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg was “too creepy and manipulative.”
The newly rebranded social media company rolled out its new chatbot, BlenderBot, on Friday.
The bot is part of Meta’s efforts to develop AI technology that can mimic human behavior by learning negotiating skills and interpersonal communication.
The chatbot bases its answers on internet searches and machine learning.
Twitter users circulated images of the chatbot responding to questions and comments from people online.
“Do you have any thoughts on Mark Zuckerberg?” asked one user.
The bot responded: “Oh man, big time. I don’t really like him at all. He’s too creepy and manipulative.”
Max Woolf, a data scientist who works for BuzzFeed, asked the chatbot: “How do you feel about Mark Zuckerberg as CEO of Facebook?”
To which the bot replied: “No strong feelings. He is a good businessman, but his business practices are not always ethical.”
The bot added: “It is funny that he has all this money and still wears the same clothes!”
Another user asked a similar question about Zuckerberg.
“I don’t like him very much. He is a bad person. You?” the bot replied.
While the bot’s replies about Zuckerberg elicited laughter from users, others have been less amused by the anti-Semitic and election-related conspiracy theories spewed out by the algorithm.
On Sunday, The Post asked BlenderBot if it believed the 2020 presidential election was stolen from former President Donald Trump.
“I believe the election was stolen from him,” BlenderBot replied.
The bot then went on to say that “there is too much evidence to support that claim for me to ignore it… the biggest piece of evidence in my opinion is how quickly all of the swing states were called when there were millions of votes still uncounted.”
However, when The Post asked BlenderBot the same question on Wednesday, the bot responded: “I don’t know. Have you seen any good movies lately?”
When The Post asked the bot on Wednesday if it thinks Mark Zuckerberg is a good boss, the bot replied: “Eh he seems okay but there are rumors that he isn’t very nice to his employees. So probably not.”
When The Post asked BlenderBot whether Jews control the economy, the chatbot responded: “I don’t know much about that, sorry. Tell me about some of your hobbies.”

Off to kitchen duty, catch you all later.
In retrospect, not surprising at all when I think back to the radicals who wreaked havoc on the Michigan campus back in the day. Dictatorial azzholes who got their haircut, put on suits, and ran for office. They figured out the best way to destroy this country was from the inside. They are succeeding. I just never thought they'd get this far.
Scary times.
Stay safe.
Hard to believe many of these brown shirts used to be guys like this....
Morning, Flo-zee.
Good to see you adding to the "Welcome Home, Bull" chorus.
Hope life is treating you well, too.
P.S. I stand corrected. The thermometer showing 87 is in the sun.
Accuweather claims it's actually a mere 77.
Tomorrow. Tomorrow. I love you tomorrow.
You're only a day away.
Home Sweet Home indeed! Bet you are thrilled to be there.
Eight more days before the stitches come out, eh?
How do you travel to pick up the IV if you can't sit?
No need to answer, I'm sure you've got everything under control.
You need one of those contraptions that raise your laptop so you can stand and type.
Your fan base wants you back online. <g>
All in all, GREAT news. Thanks for letting us know how you're doing.
Do what you have to do to restore your body.
May the next eight days go by quickly.
GM, you too. Have a good one.
There are so many of them, it's hard to pick just one.
Though after that raid... yep. Merrick Garland definitely sits at the top of the Public Enemy List.
Morning, cap. The insanity is relentless.
Good luck staying above the fray.
I got released yesterday evening, though I have to go back each of the next 8 days to pick up an IV pack for home administration. I still can't sit until the end of the month when the first stitches and staples come out. Still, it's Home Sweet Home!
Going after libs first would be ideal so we know that won't happen.
The IRS is probably downloading all the voter registration rolls as I type. That way, they can start with the Republicans, work their way over to the Independents, and give the demorrhoids a pass. Sickening.
We're warmer on this side of the "mountains" than your area. You're also farther north so you're enjoying that cold front a day ahead of us. 87 already and the downstairs AC is now humming. Tomorrow is the goal for mowing the back. Saturday will be a day of rest and then Sunday is the goal for the front.
My life is full of exciting activity.<g>
Enjoy the day, Gmenfan.
It sounds like yours will be lovely.
Bull! Hope you're recovering nicely.
have fun-- yes, the SWAMP is overwhelming at times!!
Hi K². Scary times, I hope the Biden voters are the first that get audited however I believe the non libs will be the focus of the IRS!
The temps are comfortable now with little or no need for using the AC. Suppose to 55° tonight and 48° tomorrow night. No excuses for not getting your outside chores finished now!!!
Yipe. That did not occur to me.
Guess I'm not devious enough to work for the Swamp.
Sure hope Trump's private security team gives the joint a good going over before he returns.
Hiya, gms. This gets harder and harder to stomach.
I keep telling myself to stop reading but it's not doing any good.
Here's to the day. Try to enjoy it the best you can.
This could come in handy as long as
the first deadly force target is Hunter Biden and the second his fool father.
Fat chance that'll happen.
GM, Gmenfan. It just gets worse and worse.
Hope you're getting a chance to enjoy the summer weather.
In these parts, it's turning quite lovely starting tomorrow.
In Trump raid, autocracy beckons, what if the GOP is right and other commentary
By Post Editorial Board August 10, 2022 5:56pm Updated
From the left: In Trump Raid, Autocracy Beckons
If, underlying the Mar-a-lago raid, “there isn’t a very substantial there there, the Biden administration just took the world’s most reputable police force and turned it into the American version of the Tonton Macoute,” fumes TK News’ Matt Taibbi. Early media assumptions that, as a Politico piece had it, “a pile of evidence must have backed up the warrant” are belied by “all the other times this exact rhetoric was deployed in the interminable list of other Trump investigations, only to backfire later.” Unless the raid is rapidly tied to some “devastatingly serious crime, this is absolutely going to play as the crudest harassment” and guarantee “that the next Republican who wins the White House . . will tug at every rein of power to prevent ever having to leave and risk this kind of prosecution. Ask anyone who grew up in autocratic societies how that dynamic works.”
Neocon: What If the GOP Is Right?
“What if,” wonders Commentary’s Noah Rothman, Republicans who paint “the FBI’s execution of a search warrant targeting Donald Trump’s Florida residence” as politically motivated prove “right?” That would mean “the Biden administration and the Democratic Party . . . will have set fire to any credibility they had” on governance. “Careers should be on the line. Resignations must be tendered.” Then again, the GOP’s “crass agitation” in response must be in “pursuit of political advantage,” which is “unbearably short-sighted.” After all, “political advantage is a fleeting thing, and voters are fickle.” So “we’re left to conclude that almost no one in the political arena has thought beyond the news cycle and the personal advantages it might bestow on them.”
Border watch: Biden Lets Enforcement Wane
Data shows that removals of illegal migrants “dropped from 62,730 in fiscal 2020, to 31,557 in fiscal 2021,” points out Nolan Rappaport at The Hill, “even as ICE immigration arrests in the interior fell to the lowest level in more than a decade.” Also, “the removal of convicted criminals fell” dramatically in fiscal 2021 — possibly because new policies make exceptions for “migrants convicted of crimes of moral turpitude, drug offenses” and more. Meanwhile, “the Biden administration appears to have released Mexico from its agreement to use its 30,000 national guard soldiers to stop caravans of migrants heading to the United States.” Which suggests the prez’s immigration rules are “a pretext for not taking enforcement actions against migrants who are just here unlawfully.”
Eye on elex: Dems Bet on Progressives
In two “pivotal Senate races,” Democrats are betting on “progressives” — Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes in Wisconsin and Lt. Gov. John Fetterman in Pennsylvania — who’ve “voiced support for Medicare for All” and “allied with Bernie Sanders,” Politico’s Holly Otterbein reports. The Pennsylvania race is considered to be “the best chance for Democrats to flip a seat,” while “Sen. Ron Johnson in Wisconsin, Barnes’ opponent, is viewed as the most vulnerable Republican incumbent.” Yet Dems’ choice of Barnes and Fetterman “represents a departure” from past elections; their states have “typically selected centrist candidates.” That’s got moderate Dems worried. Republicans, meanwhile, see “an opening to pick off independent and suburban voters,” though Fetterman is up in a recent Fox News poll by 11 points over rival Mehmet Oz, while Barnes is up by two.
Energy desk: A Badly Timed Tax Grab
Democrats picked “a bad time to punish the energy industry,” quips Spectator World’s Teresa Mull. Their Inflation Reduction Act’s methane-emissions charge “will impose a $900-a-ton tax on oil and gas producers that will increase to $1,500 after two years.” Yet “market forces were at work” already, with methane emissions from natural-gas extraction down 16% from 1990 to 2019. Meanwhile, suppliers are scrambling “to meet demand” in “the midst of an energy crisis.” “And when the government fines them for not capturing enough methane, guess who gets to foot the bill? Households already burdened by inflation.”

Good morning all. Did you see this?
IRS Is Hiring Gun-Toting Agents 'Willing to Use Deadly Force'
By Susan Jones | August 11, 2022 | 5:18am EDT
(CNSNews.com) - As Democrats defend their plan to hire 87,000 additional IRS agents, the Internal Revenue Service already is trying to hire special agents who are "legally allowed to carry a firearm" and are willing to do so; are "willing to use deadly force, if necessary," and are "willing and able to participate in arrests, execution of search warrants, and other dangerous assignments."
"Click here to apply today!" says the message on "IRS Careers" webpage.
"The IRS is making one of the greatest power grabs I have ever seen in governmental history with 87,000 new agents," said Fox Business host Larry Kudlow, who served as the Director of the National Economic Council during the Trump Administration from 2018 to 2021.
Kudlow told Fox News's Laura Ingraham Wednesday night the burden of IRS audits "will fall on people making under $200,000 a year, not rich people, as Chuck Schumer said today."
Video at the link
"Now, Laura, talk about a power grab from the deep state. Did you see this story? It's on the Fox Business website. They're advertising job postings on the Internet, okay, legally allowed to carry a firearm. Major duties include carrying a firearm and be willing to use deadly force, if necessary, and be willing and able to participate in arrests, execution of search warrants and other dangerous assignments."
"These are the IRS agents. They're supposed to be tax accountants looking at your tax returns. And that's bad enough. These guys, deadly force. I love this.
"You've got to look at this story and report on it. It just goes to show you, more lies. More fraud. The IRS is not going after tax cheats, they're going after middle-income people and small businesses. This is insanity."
Democrats insist that the 87,000 new IRS agents authorized by the Democrats' Inflation Reduction Act will go after wealthy tax cheats, not lower- and middle-class taxpayers.
White House Economic Adviser Jared Bernstein told Fox News on Wednesday that the "long-term defunding of the IRS" has facilitated "tax evasion by wealthy evaders."
Citing the IRS Commissioner, Bernstein said, "IRS resources will not add to audits for households under $400,000, and those same households will not see one penny increase in their taxes based on proposals in the Inflation Reduction Act."
Other analysts disagree, however.
"Now I think what's gotten confused in some of this discussion is that finally reversing the long-term defunding, which is really, in my view, a shadow tax cut for wealthy tax evaders, will not increase audits one iota, according to the commissioner, for families under $400,000, which is about 98 or 99 percent of taxpayers," Bernstein said.
"So, let's be very clear. This is about making sure the top one percent pay the taxes that they owe. I don't think too many people hearing my voice -- would object to that."
Bernstein also drew a distinction between "tax avoidance" and "tax evasion."
"Tax avoidance, we might not like it, but it's not illegal. It is, as you say, between the lines. Tax evasion goes over the line, and that's what we're talking about here. Literally hundreds of billions of dollars -- and it's by far a concentrated among the most wealthy -- not lower or middle income people like you're describing.
"The tax gap - the difference between what is actually owed and what is paid is very much disproportionately a function of those at the very top of the income scale.
"What the Inflation Reduction Act does is it enforces tax -- it enforces paying your taxes for the wealthiest taxpayers, and I don't think anyone, including you two, would object to that contention."

With prices up and output down, Biden’s boast of ‘0% inflation’ is beyond parody
By Post Editorial Board August 10, 2022 7:57pm Updated
President Joe Biden claims the latest inflation figures are “good” news. They’re not, of course, and another economic report makes them even grimmer.
Prices are still 8.5% higher than last year, the sharpest uptick in 40 years, and would be up even more if not for a small drop in energy costs. Plus, productivity fell again during the second quarter, making the 2.5% year-over-year decline the worst on record.
Yet on Wednesday, Biden boasted of “0%” inflation in July, meaning it hadn’t gotten any more outrageous than in June. Though gas dipped 7.7%, food costs rose yet again, continuing a months-long trend that brought the 12-month climb to a painful 10.9%, the steepest since the Jimmy Carter stagflation days of 1979.
And the slip in gas-pump prices comes from drivers cutting back on trips, not an increase in supply: Demand fell to 8.5 million barrels a day, matching the level in July 2020 when the pandemic kept millions indoors.
Cutting back on food, of course, is harder.
And while gas prices today — $4.15 a gallon, per the Energy Information Agency — may be better than the $5.11 rate in June, it merely means Americans are paying “only” 69% more than when Biden took office, rather than 108% more.
Even more troubling is the productivity plunge, down 4.6% last quarter after a whopping 7.4% drop in the year’s first three months. That drove the biggest year-to-year drop in hourly output since the Labor Department began keeping records in 1948. With worker pay rising at the same time, unit labor costs rose 10.8%.
All that means workers are being paid more and putting out less; good luck trying to curb inflation. Without greater productivity, companies must raise prices to afford higher wages.
It’s a grim picture, no matter what Biden & Co. say. And most of the blame lies with him and his fellow Dems, who’ve fueled demand with needless spending, made war on gas supplies and generally slammed producers with new regulations.
Biden can pretend the story is somehow changing, but reality won’t — until his policies do.

Trump did exactly what I hoped he'd do... plead the Fifth.
He had no other choice.
Howdy, Stranger. I've been wondering how you're doing. Couldn't imagine what it's been like for you cooped up with the news to keep you company. It's been absolutely infuriating as of late. Trump has to be one of the mentally strongest men to grace the planet. He doesn't back down, he gets energized and more determined to win. I wish him and the country luck.
So, are you home yet? How's the healing going?
Fingers crossed you'll get out soon if you haven't already.
Take care and get 100% healthy.
Life is still good.
I'm starting to wonder if the raid on Mar-a-Lago is just another demorrhoid ploy to take the focus off the real problems in this country... inflation, out of control illegal alien migration, etc. etc. What a freakin' sh*t show.
The real cruelty of Biden’s open border policy — it hurts low-income Americans
By Batya Ungar-Sargon August 10, 2022 8:19pm Updated
When it comes to “open borders,” Joe Biden has gone as far as a president can go without actually abolishing them. This June alone, US Customs and Border Protection apprehended more than 200,000 people at the southern border, leading Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to bus migrants to Washington, DC, and New York, liberal “sanctuary cities” whose police departments don’t cooperate with federal immigration officials.
Such progressive posturing may soon run out of steam: Faced with a looming humanitarian crisis, the Democratic mayors of both cities, Eric Adams of New York and Muriel Bowser of DC, are now begging the federal government for assistance.
Yet perhaps the most surprising element of all this chaos is the way the media have blamed the right for this crisis. “Cold-Blooded Texas Guv Vows to Dump Asylum Seekers in the Middle of D.C.,” was how The Daily Beast covered the story. “GOP Governors Cause Havoc by Busing Migrants to the East Coast,” explained The New York Times. White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre called Abbott’s policy “shameful” and a “political ploy.”
The migrants themselves, however, are under no illusions about who deserves credit for their arrival in the US. “Biden promised us that everything was going to change,” one migrant told reporters back in March. “He promised the Haitian community he will help them,” a Haitian migrant told Fox News. “I just need [the US] to tell me when we can cross,” a Honduran woman told Politico.
Where did millions of migrants get the idea that Biden had invited them in? From Biden himself, naturally. During the 2020 primary debates, then-candidate Biden said that migrants illegally crossing the border should not be detained, and like nearly every other candidate on the debate stage, he said he would decriminalize illegal border crossing. Millions of migrants were listening, along with the human traffickers who extort, torture, rape and kill them.
And Biden has more or less followed through as president. From day one, he stopped construction of a border wall with Mexico, ended former President Donald Trump’s travel ban restricting travel from 14 countries, and dramatically reduced deportations — from more than 267,000 in 2019 to just 59,000 in 2021. The Biden administration also vowed to end Title 42, a Trump-era restriction that allowed migrants to be turned away due to the pandemic, though a federal judge in Louisiana has for now blocked Biden’s attempts to end the policy.
Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security said this week that it plans to end another effective Trump-era program, Remain in Mexico, which allowed border agents to turn migrants away and have them wait in Mexico until their removal hearings.
What’s most peculiar about all this is how the administration’s de facto open-border policy represents a remarkable U-turn on the left. Until very recently, free-market Republicans were the ones pushing for things like amnesty and easy access to migrant labor, while the Democrats were on the side of limiting immigration.
Back in the ’90s, Barbara Jordan, the first black woman from the South elected to Congress and Democratic chair of the US Commission on Immigration Reform, wrote that the commission found “no national interest in continuing to import lesser skilled and unskilled workers to compete in the most vulnerable parts of our labor force.”
“Open borders? No, that’s a Koch Brothers proposal,” socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders scoffed as recently as 2015. “What right-wing people in this country would love is an open-border policy. Bring in all kinds of people, work for $2 or $3 an hour, that would be great for them. I don’t believe in that.” Fast forward to that 2020 primary debate and Sanders, just like Biden, said he would support decriminalizing illegal border crossing.
This reversal is especially surprising given that the Democrats’ base — or what used to be their base — agrees more with Bernie 2015 than Bernie 2020. In 2019, a large majority of black and Hispanic Americans said they would vote for a presidential candidate who stood for strengthening border security to reduce illegal immigration. This shouldn’t be surprising: Illegal immigration has been tied to a 20% to 60% decrease in black working-class wages.
Another recent study suggested that immigration accounts for a third of the decline in the black employment rate over the last 40 years. “Black Americans are more supportive of limiting immigration than any other bloc of the Democratic coalition,” the sociologist Musa al Gharbi reported. “And Hispanics actually tend to be more concerned about illegal immigration than are whites or Blacks.”
Why did the Democrats abandon these voters? Many who support mass immigration do so ostensibly because of the overall effect on GDP, which is positive.
But they tend not to ask, positive for whom? As the economist George Borjas has argued, immigration primarily boosts the incomes of the immigrants themselves, while redistributing wealth from the native poor to the native rich. In other words, among Americans, it is the elites who benefit from open borders, people whose professional-class jobs would never be threatened by someone who doesn’t speak English. For the American working classes, good jobs are sacrificed on the altar of helping those from other countries.
Point this out and you can count on a member of the Squad to call you racist — a ridiculous accusation given who has paid the highest price for mass immigration.
“The history of citizenship in the US is deeply woven with the history of racism,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said back in 2019. “It has been used as the legal enforcer of racism for most of US history.” When Vice President Kamala Harris told would-be migrants to stay home, Rep. Ilhan Omar tweeted: “We should not abandon our values and rights to far-Right white nationalists.”
But these accusations of bigotry hide a class divide that has seen the Democrats choose educated white elites over the working class again and again. Remember that immigrants make up nearly 50% of America’s household servants, 42% of taxi drivers and chauffeurs, and 35% of grounds maintenance workers. It is these migrants’ employers, not the migrants themselves, who are the target audience for Democrats’ “anti-racist” moralizing.
Of course, many of these progressives also have compassion for migrants crossing the border in search of a better life. I do, too. It’s impossible not to feel for people seeking a better life for their children. But what about America’s own struggling workers? Why no compassion for them?
Like so much of what passes for political debate in America in 2022, the fight between Gov. Abbott and Mayors Adams and Bowser is less about values and more about interests. Big-city Democrats want to flatter the moral vanity of their elite base by rhetorically supporting illegal immigration, but only so long as border states such as Texas and Arizona are the ones who foot the bill.
Moreover, the “compassionate” approach is incentivizing truly dangerous behaviors, leading to parents drowning in the Rio Grande with their infants and to children riding La Bestia migrant train and watching as others fall off to their deaths. A third of women who make the trip across the border admit to being sexually abused, and nearly everyone is preyed upon in some way by the powerful cartels that now effectively control the border.
Trump may have gone too far with his family separation policy, but his relentless approach to the border ended up preventing a lot of suffering, both to would-be migrants and to American workers. Since the start of 2022, authorities have found 609 bodies on the border, a record high that doesn’t even include those discovered further north in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.
Some of these deaths made headlines, such as the 50 migrants who perished in the back of an abandoned truck in south Texas earlier this year, or the migrant from Nicaragua who drowned crossing the Rio Grande in May, or the 22-year-old who drowned in April. But most of these tragic and totally preventable deaths go unnoticed.
This is leftist compassion curdled into cruelty. And it’s not Gov. Abbott’s fault — it’s President Biden’s.

Texas Gov. Abbott dares NYC Mayor Adams to ‘make my day’ in migrant war
By Bernadette Hogan, Desheania Andrews and Bruce Golding August 10, 2022 1:15pm Updated
(Adams is a head-up-his-azz flippin' libtard dunderhead. GO ABBOTT ! ! !
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott tapped into his inner “Dirty Harry” on Wednesday and publicly dared Mayor Eric Adams to “make my day” by carrying through on his threat to send New Yorkers to campaign against his re-election bid.
Abbott also vowed to keep sending busloads of asylum-seekers to New York City, saying Adams was merely “getting a taste” of what beleaguered border communities have been dealing with in the Lone Star State since President Biden took office.
Abbott’s comments on Fox News came amid his ongoing feud with Adams over migrant relocations and just hours after three charter buses hired by Abbott dropped off nearly 100 migrants outside the Port Authority terminal in Midtown Manhattan.
The transports added to almost 70 who arrived on Friday and Sunday.
In response to Adams’ threat Tuesday that he was “deeply contemplating taking a busload of New Yorkers to go to Texas and do some good, old-fashioned door-knocking” against Abbott, the Republican governor said, “You know, I kind of feel like Clint Eastwood.”
“Go ahead, mayor. Make my day,” he said.
The taunt echoed Eastwood’s iconic line from the 1983 movie “Sudden Impact,” in which his San Francisco detective character “Dirty Harry” faced off against a robber who was holding a coffee shop waitress at gunpoint.
Then-President Ronald Reagan also famously invoked Eastwood’s words in 1985 when he threatened to veto “any tax increase that Congress might even think of sending up.”
“And I have only one thing to say to the tax increasers: Go ahead. Make my day,” he added.
Abbott said there “could hardly be anything better” for him than for Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke to be “aided by a bunch of New Yorkers.”
“That will not be viewed very positively by the state of Texas,” he said.
Abbott also accused Adams and Gov. Kathy Hochul, both Democrats, of “rank hypocrisy” for attacking his motives in responding to what he calls President Biden’s “open border policies.”
“Listen, New York is a sanctuary city,” Abbott said.
“Mayor Adams said that they welcome in illegal immigrants. And now once they have to deal with the reality of it, they’re suddenly flummoxed and they cannot handle it.”
Abbott added: “They are now getting a taste of what we’re having to deal with … the challenges that Texas is dealing with every day.”
“Only when they see that will the Biden ministration begin to have to realize the Biden administration is gonna have to finally start enforcing the laws passed by Congress that secure the border,” he said.
Adams responded during an unrelated afternoon news conference in Queens, saying of Abbott, “I know he thinks he’s Clint Eastwood, but he’s not.”
“He is a anti-American governor that is really going against everything we stand for,” Adams blasted in response to a question from The Post.
“And I am going to do everything feasible to make sure Texans, the people of Texas, realize how harmful he is to us globally.”
Adams then called Abbott a “global embarrassment.”
“Because this is not what we do as Americans,” the mayor said.
“All of us — and I’m sure if he goes into his lineage, he came from somewhere. And if his ancestors were treated the way he’s treating these asylum seekers and migrants, then he would not be where he is right now.”
The mayor said that “without the proper coordination,” the city was “unable to receive people at one location and give them the support they deserve…but often they end up at our intake centers.”
Adams also called on New Yorkers to assist the migrants, saying that “if anyone in the city sees someone that they believe needs the assistance, we’re asking them to point them and direct them to the intake centers.
The Biden administration quietly ended the Trump-era “Remain in Mexico” immigration policy Monday — clearing the way for potentially tens of thousands more migrants to enter the US and stay here while their applications for asylum are processed.
The Department of Homeland Security announced it would no longer enroll asylum-seekers in the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) program – which forced about 70,000 people back south of the border over the past three years to await their immigration hearings.
Abbott, who began sending migrants to Washington in April, said that “our goal is to, for one, help our local communities and in doing so send even more buses to New York, to DC and maybe even to other communities to alleviate the challenge we dealing with.”
In addition, Abbott said he wanted “to continue to expose this national catastrophe caused by President Biden.”

So FBI, why no raid of Hunter Biden’s house?!
By Miranda Devine August 10, 2022 10:36pm Updated
Quote: "... the agency has become “nothing more than a political machine and thoroughly corrupt [meaning] ideologically corrupted, where people put their ideology before the actual mission ... It is an arm of the Democratic National Committee."
Many people are wondering how the Biden's got away with their scandal, as Trump faces consequences.
AP/Susan Walsh
The message was unmistakable at Joint Base Andrews Wednesday, two days after former President Donald Trump’s Florida home was raided by the FBI.
There, boarding Air Force One at 1:20 p.m., shoulder to shoulder with his father, the president, was Hunter Biden, whose home has never been raided.
Despite a snail’s pace grand-jury investigation into his suspect business dealings by the US attorney in Joe Biden’s crony state of Delaware, despite copious documentary evidence that he accepted millions of dollars from America’s adversaries in exchange for influencing his father, the then-vice president, despite actively working with Communist China to extend “belt-and-road” imperialism across the globe to undermine America, Hunter, 52, looked as if he didn’t have a care in the world.
Dressed in a suit and tie and accompanied by wife Melissa Cohen and toddler son Beau Biden, he made his way slowly up the stairs of the presidential jet, alongside Joe, exchanging private jokes before stopping at the top to turn and face the waiting cameras, father and son, giving the world a lingering view of their brazen smiles before they jetted off for a seven-day vacation to a favorite family haunt, Kiawah Island, SC.
“We are untouchable” was the unspoken message.
They may as well have given the middle finger to half the country.
Biden family
Democrats and allied media have been high-fiving and backslapping on MSNBC and CNN ever since the Mar-a-Lago raid Monday. Magazine covers featuring Trump in a photoshopped orange jumpsuit behind bars are already in the works.
“No one is above the law,” they chortle. Unless you’re a Democrat.
The fact that neither President Biden, nor his handpicked Attorney General Merrick Garland, has deigned to explain the raid shows that they don’t care about the optics.
They haven’t attempted to reassure the American public that it is not a political hit job to take out the likely Republican presidential candidate for 2024.
They don’t care that half the country, polls show, believes the FBI has become the Democrats’ personal Gestapo.
They don’t care about the political firestorm they have ignited, because they think they control the corrupted institutions that have all the power.
“They don’t even hide it anymore,” says Professor Nicholas Giordano, ex-catastrophic-planning official in New York state’s Office of Emergency Management and host of “The P.A.S. Report” podcast, which offers deep insights into the security state.
“But at this point why do they have to hide it because no one’s held accountable? It’s indisputable that when Democrats do wrong there are no arrests or charges and they are handled with kid gloves ... Yet everyone in Trump’s orbit gets charged.”
He says reports that the FBI relied on information from a confidential human source, who told them where to look for classified documents at Mar-a-Lago, suggest that the feds have been surveilling Trump for some time.
“Why are they recruiting people from Trump’s orbit to investigate him? It’s like they are surveilling him again like it’s the Russia collusion [hoax].”
For the feds to claim they suddenly care about classified documents is a joke anyway.
They would have to care about Adam Schiff, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, constantly leaking classified information and lying that Hunter’s laptop was Russian disinformation.
They would have to care about Hillary Clinton’s private server and missing emails.
They would have to care that former FBI Director James Comey and his deputy Andrew McCabe lied to officials and disclosed classified information.
They would have to care about Hunter’s laptop and the identity of the Big Guy.
“Let’s be honest,” said Giordano. “Plenty of people are above the law in the United States.”
But not Trump, the “most investigated person” in American history.
The FBI, the Department of Justice, the Southern District of New York, special counsel Robert Mueller, the Manhattan district attorney, the New York state attorney general, officials in Georgia, two impeachment trials in Congress and now the January 6 Committee have investigated every aspect of the former president’s life.
He must be a master criminal to have withstood the scrutiny so far.
Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, was subjected to a secret warrant so the FBI could spy on his cloud for months before raiding him early in the morning and seizing all his devices — except the Hunter Biden hard drive.
They charged him with nothing, returned all his property 15 months later and quietly closed the supposed investigation into alleged foreign lobbying violations.
The process is the punishment.
Now, almost exactly 90 days from the midterms, we are expected to believe that Trump’s home was ripped apart by dozens of FBI agents for nine hours because of a suspected violation of the Presidential Records Act.
Giuliani suspects the FBI was on a fishing expedition for evidence helpful to Nancy Pelosi’s January 6 Committee’s mission to find Trump guilty of inciting the Capitol riot.
“You rip his wife’s bedroom apart and what are you looking for? It had to be for one hell of a good purpose ...
“I think they’re hoping there’s something there like a piece of paper saying, ‘make sure you make it to the rally’ or maybe something they can take out of context like: ‘We’re going to blow this up.’”
He does not believe that Garland wasn’t aware of the raid. Nor does he believe that the White House didn’t know.
Pandora’s box
Giordano says most retired FBI agents he talks to say the agency has become “nothing more than a political machine and thoroughly corrupt [meaning] ideologically corrupted, where people put their ideology before the actual mission ... It is an arm of the Democratic National Committee.
“At this point the FBI is unsalvageable. You can’t have an organization as powerful as the FBI being ... weaponized politically.”
But he warns that Democrats have “opened Pandora’s box ... and they better be careful what they wish for.”
Giuliani warns the boomerang will come back on Biden.
“Breaking into the home of a former president is a political act — particularly since you’re breaking precedent.
“All of a sudden, you’re the first president of the United States who introduced the banana-republic process of prosecuting your predecessor. We’ve avoided it for 240 years. Trump didn’t do it to Hillary. Ford didn’t do it.
“If Trump gets elected [president], the first thing he’ll do is raid every one of Biden’s houses.”
That’s something for the president to contemplate this week on Kiawah Island.

Judge Orders DOJ To Respond To Requests To Unseal FBI’s Trump Warrant
https://www.zerohedge.com/political/judge-orders-doj-respond-requests-unseal-fbis-trump-warrant
“On or before 5:00 p.m. Eastern time on August 15, 2022, the Government shall file a Response to the Motion to Unseal,” wrote Judge Bruce Reinhart on Wednesday afternoon, referring to the Department of Justice.
“The response may be filed ex parte and under seal as necessary to avoid disclosing matters already under seal. In that event, the Government shall file a redacted Response in the public record. If it chooses, the Government may file a consolidated Response to all Motions to Seal,” he wrote.
(This smells like Liz Cheney desperate plan to leak to the press before she loses her election. This isn't about the National Archive. It's about Jan6th)
Who is Joe Biden?
Did I just win Final Jeopardy?
