( LEEP ) - LeepCore(TM) Receives State Approval as Structural Material for Use in All Classes of Building Construction in Florida
4/27/04
CHICAGO, Apr 27, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ --
Leading-Edge Earth Products, Inc. (Pink Sheets: LEEP) reported today that it has received final approvals from the State of Florida to use LeepCore as a structural material in general construction applications. As reported in recent press releases, SoutheastModular Manufacturer Company's LeepCore classroom design was earlier approved for sale in Florida. Those classrooms are currently in production. This new approval positions LeepCore for use in a wide variety of non-modular, 'site-built'building construction applications.
Grant Record, LEEP's CEO, said, 'We have achieved these approvals by working closely with a leading A&E firm and pending customers in Florida who are planning to integrate LeepCore into upcoming projects. This State approval for use of LeepCore in general construction opens the door to significant near-term opportunities. Based on the relationships we have developed with non-modular customers, we expect to be applying LeepCore to site-built construction in the Florida, almost immediately.'
THE COMPANY
LEEP is a publicly held developer and manufacturer of LeepCore, a proprietary component that supports construction of high-performance/low-cost buildings. The product offers advanced properties and benefits, including uniquely fast design and construction cycles for long-span floors and roofs and frameless freestanding wall construction. LeepCore is a lightweight structural building material that is fire, termite, water, dry rot, mold and corrosion resistant. The product supports high-wind and earthquake resistant building designs. Additionally, thermal insulation properties exceed building-industry standards. Markets for LeepCore construction include: classrooms and other modular buildings, North American site-built housing, commercial building construction, emerging-country housing, telecommunication equipment shelters and military applications (the military emphasis being on airplane and helicopter transportable building systems, which are lightweight and perform well in extremely hot and cold weather conditions).

CHICAGO, Mar 25, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ --
Leading-Edge Earth Products, Inc. (Pink Sheets: LEEP) reported today that it received its first order for LeepCore from Southeast Modular Manufacturing Company (Leesburg, Florida). As reported in a LEEP press release dated March 4, 2004, Southeast is approved by the State of Florida to manufacture and sell the LeepCore Classroom. After state inspection, the model of the new classroom was shown to a number of school districts over the last few weeks resulting in early initial classroom orders from several school districts.
Grant Record, LEEP's CEO, said, 'We have received Southeast's first order for LeepCore panels to support early construction of multiple classroom orders. We have been stockpiling inventory against the anticipated Florida classroom demand and will ship the LeepCore panels from inventory next week to support Southeast's requirement to immediately fill their classroom orders. There is a high demand for non-concrete classrooms in Florida. Given our two- year investment in preparing to enter the Florida classroom market, it is gratifying to see how quickly the classroom market is responding to the LeepCore solution. We expect the interest and orders to grow as Southeast brings this unique product to the Florida market.'

LeepCore Modular Classrooms Approved for Sale and Manufacturing in Florida
3/9/04
CHICAGO, Mar 9, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ --
Leading Edge Earth Products, Inc. (Pink Sheets: LEEP) reported today that marketing of the LeepCore Universal Relocatable Classroom was officially started in Florida as of Southeast Modular Manufacturing Company's (Leesburg, Florida) announcement on March 5, 2004.
Grant Record, CEO, said, 'We have invested heavily and spent more than one and a half years: selecting a major modular building manufacturer in Florida, developing specifications, designing, prototyping and permitting our LeepCore mold-resistant classroom to replace concrete classroom construction in Florida.'
As of March 1, 2004, Southeast Modular ('Southeast'), one of the largest manufacturers of modular classrooms, is officially accepting orders for LeepCore mold/rot/mildew-resistant classrooms that meet all of Florida's hurricane building code requirements. Channel 9 (ABC) television recently conducted a televised tour of the LeepCore Universal Classroom that Florida State recently approved for unrestricted sale to Florida school districts. As a result of channel 9's multiple airings of a 60-second special report about LeepCore technology, school districts and modular dealers are now aware of the LeepCore solution to mold/rot/mildew-resistant classroom construction. Southeast expects large order demand for this unit. Unlike the less portable concrete classrooms, this unit can be leased by school districts using expense budgets rather than capital purchase budgets.
Record said, 'We expect the Florida school districts to absorb a high percentage of our LeepCore production capacity between now and the time that our planned high-speed/fully automated plant becomes operational in Florida.'

LEEP... Founding, History, Objectives
Founding, History, Objectives
The Company was organized in 1991 to develop and manufacture alternative composite technology products for the building construction industry. The Company became a public trading company in 1992. Nine years and more than $9 million were invested in R&D, public company maintenance, marketing, product testing, Research, Development and Marketing phases were followed by construction of a beta-level mechanism-scale manufacturing facility. Design and planning of the company's ultimate and next full-scale manufacturing plant has also been completed. One and a half years of medium-scale production have brought the Company to a place where substantial customer following and sales are available. The Company's product is highly responsive to environmental issues and fulfills significant needs in the building construction industry. The Company's goal is to establish itself as a major supplier of LEEPCORE components for construction of very-high-performance pre-engineered buildings including relocatable and knock-down modular buildings.

There Is Much, Much More At @: http://www.leepinc.com/index.html
Platform for Success:
Platform for Success:
> Current Trends: A preponderance of modern methods within the construction industry now employs pre-engineered and prefabricated components.
> Competition: The Company knows of no direct competition for the array of features and benefits provided by the Company's unique structural component and building system.
> Market Timing: At least one states' building code has now banned the use of wood structural members in public buildings and all modular (relocateable) construction. Management believes other states will follow this trend. Concrete construction is overly expensive, heavy and impractical as a wood substitute. We believe LEEPCORE is positioned to be the ultimate wood substitute building material.
> Mature Product: The Company has completed its transition from Research through the Development to manufacturing and is ready to expand production and marketing.
Setting the Stage
More than $6 million has been spent:
> maintaining LEEP as a public company for seven years;
> developing the Company's product;
> taking manufacturing from the Research stage through the Development stage to production status in a high-quality medium-scale plant;
> testing and certifying the product to the level required to construct 3 different commercial buildings;
> identifying and addressing large initial markets;
> obtaining an early customer following;
> obtaining building permits to construct a high-end, 2-story office building in a major US city and other construction in suburban locations;
> obtaining building and product liability insurance;
> planning and designing a full-scale, continuous manufacturing plant.
The Company is now ready to begin selling LEEPCORE at a meaningful level from the expanding Pennsylvania production facility and planning to construct its first continuous process, full-scale manufacturing plant as soon as order backlog justifies.

Product Information
Patents, Trademarks, Proprietary Technology
The Company has been patent-intensive since 1992. The Company received notice from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in 1995 that a patent was granted covering 47 patent claims that the Company considers important. A second patent was granted by the Mexican government in 1996, covering 47 claims. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office granted the Company's third patent in April 1992 (12 claims). The Company filed an additional "unifying"-type patent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in May, 1999, and is in the process of adding by amendment 12 more claims to the patent granted in April 1999. An additional patent was filed on July 27, 1999 that is designed to solidify and protect many product attributes and systemic characteristics.
All the Company's patent work is aimed at protecting the Company's technology as it relates to construction of a lightweight (typically 2.6# per sq.ft.) building construction material, which holds in excess of 166# per sq.ft. of roof load (assuming failure load is two times greater than the 166# per sq.ft. load rating). In certified tests during 1998, the Company achieved load factors in excess of twice the above 166# per sq.ft. objective. The planned 2001/2002 testing program is aimed at demonstrating how these revolutionary ultra-light/strong properties and flexibility of LEEP STRUCTURAL CORE will provide wind and earthquake force resistance beyond the capabilities of traditional masonry, wood, steel and concrete.
Exclusive rights to use the patented technology in the United States and non-exclusive rights outside of the U.S. are assigned to the Company by the inventor. Non-domestic rights are subject to the Company's paying for all costs associated with developing foreign business and paying the costs of applicable foreign patent work desired by the Company. The Company has not yet patented any of its technology abroad, except in Mexico. All U.S. rights for subsequent related technology (patented or not) are assigned to the Company by the Company's founder and early management.
Testing Programs
The testing program is in process with a nationally recognized certified testing lab to certify the LEEPCORE product for building code compliance. Testing the product for use in high-wind and earthquake-prone regions will be addressed as well. Testing and certification of these advanced material capabilities will enable the Company to launch a major worldwide marketing campaign. The international market is potentially as significant as the Company's total domestic markets and can also provide global recognition for the Company as a new innnovator in a very old business sector that otherwise has few if any effective solutions to wind and earthquake problems.
http://www.leepinc.com/Product%20text.html#Patents,%20Trademarks,%20Proprietary%20Technology
The Competition
Comparison with Competition
The Company does not believe that building materials or systems are available, which are competitive with LEEPCORE. The preponderance of building panels and systems in the market today are not structurally load-bearing, i.e., are not designed to support the weights of roofs on walls, or floor loads. LEEPCORE, conversely, is fully structural and load bearing and tests beyond most building code requirements.
Pricing Strategy
The Company's prices are and will continue to be set competitively. Management believes that upward pricing will be acceptable as the market recognizes the large benefits that the product provides. The benefits of fast construction, high thermal insulation, low maintenance and the near indestructible nature of the product, support upward pricing early in the Company's rollout. Successful results of the planned wind and earthquake resistance testing are expected to allow substantial upward pricing in the near future.
Reasons Customers Purchase from this Company
The Company is not aware of any direct competition with the product's array of features and benefits. Customers will likely purchase the Company's product because of its modest total construction cost, durability, high speed of construction, high quality, extraordinary insulation value, toughness and resilience. Markets for the product's prospective seismic and wind resistance properties are being studied.
Comparison of the Company's Product with Market Leaders
The Company is not aware of any other single structural building material or system available to the construction industry that can claim the revolutionary array of features and benefits offered by the Company's product. The following features and benefits result from using the Company's product to fabricate walls, roofs, and floors:
>Less Expensive: Lower turnkey costs than wood-frame, concrete-block, or other masonry construction.
>Quicker Assembly: Faster construction time than permitted by traditional materials and methods.
>Less Maintenance: This is because the product is noncombustible and resistant to: rot, moisture, insects, acids, bases and saltwater.
>Higher Insulation Value: Promotes lower heating and cooling costs because the product offers substantially higher overall thermal insulation values than traditional materials (25.5R standard) with full wall/roof/floor thermal break. The practical comparative insulation factor for completed buildings appears to be higher by multiples of insulation rating, because 75% of thermal energy in a frame building is lost through the frame members. The LEEP CORE product does not provide a conductive path at conventional frame constructions 16" frame center lines. Again, frame systems are known to lose 75% of their thermal energy through the frame members.
>Stronger: 120# per square foot floor loads (internally tested at 8' span) and 5,000# per lineal foot roof loads without frame support (@ 50% /safety factor).
>More Architectural Flexibility: Compared with traditional construction, the product's strength and higher insulation property permit a greater variety of building designs with open-beam ceilings, skylights, and glass.
Recent Product Testing and Documented Results
PRELIMINARY TEST DATA
Raw data in process of certification and formulating load tables follows. These tests were all conducted on unclad LEEPCORE single components: or paired without chemical bonding or mechanical fasteners. Tests were conducted at a commercial lab, except test for wind-load on 9', 10' & 12' assemblies, which are done internally, at our Pa plant.
TRANSVERSE LOADS:
Wall, 9' span; L/180 = 97#/sq.ft; failure load = 220#/sq.ft.
Wall, 10' span; L/180 = 78#/sq.ft; failure load = 200# sq.ft
Wall, 12' span; L/180 = 58#/sq.ft; failure load = 150#/sq.ft
Floor, 6' span; L/180 = 160#/sq.ft; test to determine failure load "maxed out" test apparatus @ 390#/sq.ft. Failure load not achieved
Notes:
Recovery after L/180 loads were removed are typically better than 94%
There is good correlation between internal (PA) wind-load tests and RADCO; e.g., L/180= 60# vs. 58#. We have found this consistency since starting internal vs. commercial lab testing in 1996.
AXIAL LOAD:
2' x 12' wall size; Mid Point Deflection @ 10,000#, prior to failure = .067";
failure load =13,400# (6,700#/linear foot of wall length)
· RACKING-SHEAR LOADS
8' & 4' Sections were fabricated with glue lines and joined together with fasteners only to form 12' x 12' wall Section; foundation connector failure load = 4,000#. Bonded Sections showed no sign of integral failure at 10,000#. Sections tested with "fasteners only" connections were tested to the 10,000# level without showing fastener damage. New test on non-bonded LSC within Sections is pending. New test will be done with "beefed up", but affordable ¾" foundation connection bolts in position #1 where the pressure is concentrated.
18. The following Specifications for LEEP STRUCTURAL CORE are Certified and Published with the SEC:
NON-COMBUSTIBLE; Class 1, flame resistant, certified to American Standard Testing Methods (ASTM) E-84 @ Flame spread = 20 and Smoke = 100 @ 4" thickness.
INSULATION R FACTOR; certified to ASTM C-518 @ 7.25 R per inch (0.138K).
WATER IMPERMEABILITY; certified to ASTM D-2856 @ greater than 90% closed cell (this means water impermeable).
ROT AND INSECT RESISTANCE; certified to be a Polymer plastic/Metal material which is 100% rot and insect resistant.
COPMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF RIGID FOAM; certified to ASTM D-1621 compressive strength @ 20 PSI, which supports tested load-bearing properties of final product that was certified by a leading US university on November 9, 1998.
STAND-ALONE STRUCTURAL CAPACITIES; certified to ASTM E-72 at:
14,000 to 16,000 lbs. for full-wall load bearing (eccentrically loaded);
30,000 to 50,000 lbs. point loads over center of 2½"-square integrated support column (eccentrically loaded);
9,000 to 10,000 lbs. point loads over mid-section of panel joinery with no additional integral or external support (eccentrically loaded).
RESILIENCY; recovery of transverse deflection after load removal, certified to ASTM E-72 for full-load-bearing and point-load certification (unsupported panel system) at: recovery values ranging from 99.9% to 93.8% with the mean average of 9 tests being 98.1%.
STRENGTH-TO-WEIGHT RATIO; certified to ASTM E-72 testing procedures for full-wall-distributed-load-bearing and point-load certifications (unsupported panel sections) at:
A 9,000 lb. point-load / 136 lb. weight of panel section equals 66.2.
This means the wall panel section supported 66.2 times its weight, on a point-load basis.
A 16,000 lb. distributed load / 136 lb. weight of panel section equals 117.6. This means the wall panel section supported 177.6 times its weight, when the roof load was distributed evenly over the top of the 4'x12'x4" wall panel.

Any prospective projects appropriate for LeepCore construction should be addressed to Administration, at: www.leepinc@aol.com. The Company is entertaining at this time: smaller unit construction which can be revolved around LeepCore sections which are appropriate for Modular Construction such as 6' x 12" x 4" sections which universally serve wall, roof and floor construction. Projects need not be limited to "HUD" orientation, however, the projects can typically be moved along fastest with the least building permit and other bureaucratic issues if the units accommodate axils (even if not used).

Product Information:

LEEP: Company Background:
Company's Business
The Company has developed and manufactures a revolutionary, high-strength, lightweight, low-cost structural component that is used to fabricate pre-engineered wall, roof, and floor systems for the building construction industry. The Company's product is designed, as a substitute for structural wood, concrete, masonry and steel used in many types of building construction applications. The manufacturing technology is proven and a medium-scale manufacturing facility is in place and operating efficiently. The Company's product provides specific cost and performance benefits in a variety of building construction applications. The Company sells its product directly and plans to sell it through joint venture and strategic alliance partners who specialize in various market sectors.
The Company is publicly traded on the NASDAQ bulletin board under the trading symbol "LEEP."
Future of This Business
The Company's Pennsylvania plant produces its building panel product in four-inch thick by upto twelve-feet long sizes. This medium-scale plant currently has sufficient capacity to produce panels to support construction of approximately 12 to 50 small to medium size buildings per month, depending on building size mix. The present plant design and location will accommodate production expansion up to 120,000 sq. ft. of product. This is sufficient to support construction of 30 to 120 buildings per month, depending on size.
The current plant capacity is intended for use as beta product with which the company can develop markets and customers within them which will provide orders at a level sufficient to justify construction of the Company's full-scale continuous production manufacturing plant.
The Company is developing the resources to finance the construction of a full-scale automated continuous process manufacturing plant. The automated process is planned to produce large commercial quantities of the Company's product, cut to job order specifications. The central manufacturing machine at the planned full-scale manufacturing plant will be a 127-foot-long Laminator capable of producing up to 25 million square feet of product per year. After the first new full-scale manufacturing facility is stabilized and profitable, the Company intends to duplicate that operation at additional sites in the U.S. and to expand internationally. Subsequent plants can be justified early on because these plants offer a "breakeven" operating level at 10% of capacity, i.e., 2.5 million sq.ft. of LEEPCORE product per year.
Industry Classification
The Company is a manufacturer in the building construction materials industry. It produces structural, composite, foam/metal panels for the construction of commercial and residential buildings. In addition to the industry standard applications for the product, the Company's new material building component will be tested for high-wind and seismic-area applications. Preliminary test results indicate the product is well suited for such adverse conditions as well as construction in extreme high and low-temperature regions.
Principal Product
The company's principal product is a two-foot wide, structural, lightweight, composite material component that is configured as a highly insulating, load-bearing, structural building panel . The component is called "LEEP STRUCTURAL CORETM", or "LEEP CORE." LEEPCORE is used to fabricate wall, roof and floor sections for pre-engineered buildings. The resultant building system is known as the LEEP FREE-STANDING FRAMELESS Building System.
The following product attributes served as criteria for developing the LEEPCORE product. All of the attributes listed were accomplished over a 5-year development period, based on the findings of a protracted research period:
Fire resistant
Water proof
Rot, Mildew & Corrosion Resistant
Termite proof
Wind & Seismic Force Resistant
Highest commercially available total building thermal insulation value
Industry unique structure to resist 3 primary directions of force and serve as load-bearing structural Wall, Roof and Floor
Price Competitive compared with lowest cost and "cheapest" construction method, i.e., traditional North America wood-frame construction
Raw material to manufacture The Product is economically available on every continent
Manufacturing technology must have a world-wide supporting infrastructure
Inherent High-speed Mass-production capability to support construction of 10 to 50 buildings a day (depending on building sizes)
Non-toxic, Earth-friendly and Environmentally-sensitive at every level
Company's Primary Value-Added
The Company's planned continuous manufacturing process will convert 10,000-pound coils of very-thin sheet steel into custom configurations which are filled with Polyol and Iso chemicals to become lightweight, high-strength, tough, resilient cut-to-length components, which are used to construct pre-engineered buildings.
Platform for Success
More than $6 million has been spent:
maintaining LEEP as a public company for seven years;
developing the Company's product;
taking manufacturing from the Research stage through the Development stage to production status in a high-quality medium-scale plant;
testing and certifying the product to the level required to construct 3 different commercial buildings;
identifying and addressing large initial markets;
obtaining an early customer following;
obtaining building permits to construct a high-end, 2-story office building in a major US city and other construction in suburban locations;
obtaining building and product liability insurance;
planning and designing a full-scale, continuous manufacturing plant.
The Company is now ready to begin selling LEEPCORE at a meaningful level from the expanding Pennsylvania production facility and planning to construct its first continuous process, full-scale manufacturing plant as soon as order backlog justifies.

LEEP Hires RADCO to Perform Final Structural Tests on LEEPCORE Panel Product
Jump to first matched term
Results Expected to Exceed Requirements to Obtain Building Code Certifications
CHICAGO, March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading Edge Earth Products, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: LEEP) has signed a contract with RADCO to perform a battery of structural tests on its proprietary structural building panel, known as LEEPCORE. RADCO, founded in 1967, is a widely known and highly respected independent third-party testing, listing, certification and inspection agency that operates nationally from its headquarters in Long Beach, California. The firm is approved by the National Evaluation Service (NES) as both a Quality Assurance Agency (ICBO-ES-AA204) and as a Testing Laboratory (ICBO-ES-TL209), and complies with ISO 25. In addition, RADCO is approved as a testing laboratory by NIST under the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) thermal insulation program.
"This is another major milestone in the commercialization of LEEPCORE," according to Grant Record, CEO, "and while the time span required for obtaining code authority certifications cannot be defined with precision, we anticipate that our customers' tasks of applying and receiving building construction permits will be greatly simplified over the next six months."
Preliminary tests were conducted earlier at the University of Washington (UW) and Clemson University. The UW test results give the company confidence that LEEPCORE panels are capable of meeting or exceeding U.S. building code requirements for construction of commercial floors, walls and roofs. The LEEPCORE panels tested earlier were manufactured with .016"-gauge interior and exterior steel skins. The LEEPCORE panels to be tested by RADCO are manufactured with .019"-gauge steel skins because the .019" steel is a more commonly available product, and thus provides cost and delivery efficiencies over the .016" skin material. The thicker skins also provide an increased strength benefit, so the company believes the test results are likely to be even better than the earlier tests with the .016" clad panels. In recent wind tests at Clemson University, for example, a .019" clad panel withstood wall penetration at 2.34 times the projectile speed required to obtain building permits in Dade County, Florida. The test requires that a nine-pound length of two-by-four lumber be fired, end on, at wall products at a speed of 50 feet per second. If penetration occurs, the wall product fails. Conversely, the higher the speeds at penetration, the stronger the wall. LEEPCORE withstood projectile speeds up to 117 feet per second (80 miles an hour) without penetration, compared to concrete block which shatters in the range of 50 to 80 feet per second.
The company has also engaged the Structural Engineering firm of Grossman & Speer, Pasadena, California, to provide third-party overview of the testing process and recommend product applications. Grossman & Speer is well known for its work in engineering solutions for buildings in earthquake-prone areas, and has worked extensively with Jet Propulsion Laboratories in this area.
Leading Edge Earth Products, Inc. is a publicly-held manufacturer of the patented LEEPCORE building system. The product has exceptional performance characteristics including cost effectiveness, a rapid design and construction cycle, very high structural integrity, thermal insulation properties beyond industry norms and fire, moisture, wind and insect resistance.
