Second Quarter Financial Results

Product revenues for the second quarter ended June 27, 2020 were $6.7 million, compared with $4.4 million for the second quarter ended June 29, 2019, a 50% increase year over year. Funded research, development and other revenues were $2.1 million for the second quarter ended June 27, 2020 compared with $4.7 million for the second quarter ended June 29, 2019. Included in the $4.7 million of revenues for the second quarter of 2019 was a one-time license fee payment of $3.5 million. Total revenues were $8.8 million for the second quarter ended June 27, 2020 compared with $9.1 million for the second quarter ended June 29, 2019.

Research and development (R&D) expenses for the second quarter of 2020 were $2.2 million compared to $3.3 million for the second quarter of 2019, a 33% decrease year over year. The decline in R&D expenses is due in part to the licensing and sale of our Golden-I Infinity and Solos technologies as part of our commercialization strategy which we commenced in 2019. In fiscal year 2020, we expect our R&D expenditures to primarily focus on our display products, overlay weapon sights and organic light emitting diode (“OLED”) display technologies.

Selling, general and administrative (SG&A) expenses were $2.9 million for the second quarter of 2020, compared to $5.4 million for the second quarter of 2019, a 46% decrease year over year. SG&A decreased for the three and six months ended June 27, 2020 as compared to the three and six months ended June 29, 2019 primarily due to a decrease in compensation expenses including stock-based compensation, bad debt expense, professional fees, information technology expenses, travel and accretion of the NVIS contingent consideration.

The net loss attributable to controlling interest for the second quarter of 2020 was $1.1 million, or 1 cent per share, compared with net loss of $4.3 million, or 5 cents per share, for the second quarter of 2019.

Net cash used in operating activities for the second quarter ended June 27, 2020 was approximately $2.9 million. Kopin's cash and equivalents and marketable securities were approximately $15.3 million at June 27, 2020 as compared to $21.8 million at December 28, 2019.

All amounts above are estimates and readers should refer to our Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 27, 2020, for final disposition as well as important risk factors.

Kopin’s color display is made with a duo-stack white OLED structure and color filters. Kopin has been working with its partner, Lakeside Optoelectronic Technology Co., Ltd., to optimize the duo-stack OLED structure to output color spectrum to match the bandpass of the color filters for high color fidelity, coupled with very high Current Efficiency and low operating voltage. These 720p displays fabricated from multiple wafers exhibited average Current Efficiency of about 12 candela per ampere (cd/A), with the maximum value about 14 cd/A. These values are much higher than the best publicly available values of the alternative approaches. Kopin’s best 720p display exhibited 7,000 nits with a contrast ratio of >4000: 1. The contrast ratio of the display at 5000 nits is higher than 100,000:1. The power consumption of the display, including the backplane power, is about 500 mW when displaying a full white image at 7000 nits. The 720p display’s color fidelity is about 100% sRGB.

We believe by incorporating another innovative structure on our micro display such as a microlens array to enhance the output coupling efficiency, the brightness can be significantly increased further, opening many applications for the OLED micro displays, especially for the AR/VR wearables.”

So now pretty much everyone that got in yesterday is stuck with red shares until $KOPN releases some news or their next quarterly. All that volume and momentum yesterday only to end a few percentage points up and now red today. This stock is sick with the sells but I guess the smart money hauled ass and dumped out of this thing yesterday while they could. Hopefully no new Form 4s will come out this week or next to see if and how much management dumped into the earnings release yesterday.

If we could ever chew through the endless shares from .68-.70 the run could really gather steam again today.

Good thing is there has been a major consolidation and exchange of funds at that level as well. A LOT of $$ is betting on $KOPN going higher than .68 -.75. The MMs and their algos can frankly piss off for shorting this the way they did today to keep the run down and transactions up.

We'll be lucky to close green with the way they are crushing every buying spurt with air shares.

Nice run up today but I swear it looks like the company is diluting or some Company Officers are letting loose of shares.

Just too many big blocks of shares constantly sitting at the ask acting like a big wet blanket for a continued run today.

We need a few big whales to come in and crush this selling below .65 and or some learn how to trade into strength with small lots versus a big azz block of several thousand shares.

Bought a Solos for my son, the biker, he hated it! Their corporate hype usually sucks although this latest call seemed toned done at last. Regardless, I'm in for the long term and optimistic.

Post 3.50 $KOPN pops up on my alerts. I own at 1.70 and will be the big buyer at 2.50-2.75. It's a compnay that talks potential every year. I believe it but - hey, this is a business and I can't buy hopes and wishes without a steep discount.

The board would be wise to ponder your comments, as to why and how and when to invest in KOPN. I too think our stock pick herein will readily expand in to the areas you have mentioned, and agree the company R&D investment will be a factor in degrading next few quarters of earnings.

By simply combining IR and 3-D 'libraries' of readings of say eye movements and tactile range of motions behavior, along with voice and questions responses . . . a history of physical and mental reality orientation (for medical study by software), would be most useful to remote and visiting and family caregivers?
Using AI predictive math sets, potential troubling info could be 'alarmed' to those parties.


The same general factors (and more) would allow remote sensing of production and product usage data by various entities. Check out MVIS stock as form of novel portable high definition lasing system they have developed, that can easily be included in say cell phones of present size. I owe some of that company also, and think it has high potential in VR-AR applications. MVIS is now preparing its first product as separate micro laser projector, that is stand alone Wi-Fi device along side say your cell phone or laptop. Just, for example, VG and business uses should be sought after uses of this type of tech. I would hope both companies would envision the product and service lines they could create together.

I foresee mutually in both stocks in the coming IOT transition as robotics, etc. continues to evolve in the planetary society.
I am quite comfortable holding both stocks for their obvious frontier status in the coming times.

Now . . . as to juiced-up folk in Flying Cars . . . that maybe a big leap to get around? It was fun, fun, fun . . . til Daddy took the flight keys away! :)

You raise some interesting points -- robotics, AI, and the like. This is the future, which is occurring at a faster pace. Kopin is well suited for this. I too doubt China and the USA will pull back from each other benefiting from the transformational advances we will see in these areas even though there may be some posturing from time to time.

Kopin has invested much of its capital in securing various patent protection, and I think that is one reason why it has not reported net earnings that may in the short term boost its share price. It has been building value that is not reflected in the share price. Kopin's intellectual property is well suited for robotics, AI, self driving vehicles, self flying planes, drones, etc.

Robots will perform many more jobs and functions whether for medical and hospital purposes, security, military, manufacturing, construction, transportation, home, etc.

With advances in biotechnology world populations are living longer. As populations continue to age Kopin's technology will be used in our homes and elsewhere. Wearable technology will help the elderly and their families in every day life. Robots will assist and provide company for the elderly and disabled. A son, daughter or caregiver can place sensors and devices around a home and on the person to keep track of elderly parents. These devices will enable instant communication as needed.

pull back from each other economically. I doubt it though . . . China will not end its investment in USA tech 'sharing' and our domestic markets of all types.

One has to wonder what uses will KOPN patents and tech have in self-driving and cross-communicating vehicles in coming years.
And, in major robotics and AI plant improvements coming along in next 10 years.

KOPN tech could be built into new infrastructure and even into proposed upgrades to 'electronic border fences' plus HLS security

That's my rationale why I took a chance herein . . . Buy-Out or major partner comes to their senses + next year and this year VR-AR usage heats up.

I thought it was a good deal when it bottomed around $17/share (yes, seventeen dollars) back around 3rd quarter 2000. That was an era of irrational exuberance. Seventeen years later, nothing but heartache with KOPN. I finally broke even about 4 years ago by playing short trades on the peaks and valleys. This stock is really too much work as my blue chips (like T) are faithful income providers.

With short I high, and B/A ratio short today . . . I expect more down in price. Why . . . I do not know . . . and Vol is low to AVol.

I suspect one reason why is next earnings should not be great, however its what comes after that counts. This company is in best VR-AR acquisition category (to my way of thinking with their recent show demos and over 200 patents worldwide and present customer satisfaction and ability to leverage worker productivity and thus profits). APPL seems currently unable to possess KOPN quality of techs (and right ready to go most soon). This is a hold and se stock. Somebody out there is going to acquire or partner big time with this company. No-Brainer . . . patents + best available tech for mobile uses including military. BA or LMT would be intellectually challenged not to grab up this gem, at such a low
stock price. All one needs to due (minimum) is buy up say 5Mil KOPN stock shares in open market and then demand 1 0r 2 BOD seats as major stock holder. This makes a hostile takeover of KOPN difficult, along with current insider own of over 50% of currently issued shares.

China sees the value herein and could do it and gain quick entrance into USA mobile VR-AR market. Why Donald is pursing Border Wars with Mexico and threatening a imported product tax 'addition' . . . China can laugh and move in.

We are going to get new contracts this year and next . . . as major
mobile uses for transportation and military and medical and tech repair pluses come evident to techies and gamers and company productivity increasing capabilities.

KOPN tech in your products and services is far cheaper than what's currently possible for other wearables companies.

I believe 'our day' will come . . . after shorts are over.
