Bank of America Merrill Lynch is out with its report today on Juniper Networks (NASDAQ: JNPR), lowering its PO from $48 to $42.
In a note to clients, Bank of America Merrill Lynch writes, "We believe management will eliminate the 20% growth target for 2011, but also think this is already priced in and well expected by investors. With the stock down 32% from its 3/8/11 peak, we think long term investors should buy the stock on the current weakness and highlight solid long term potential, strong carrier trends, new product launches that grow the TAM, potential for share gains driven by technology excellence, and a new scenario model suggests the stock is attractive even on a negative scenario. We reduce our PO from $48 to $42 to reflect the sector's multiple contraction."

Juniper Networks Drives Japan's Ultra Fast and Flexible SINET4
National Institute of Informatics to Deliver Virtual Development Platform With Junos SDK
Press Release Source: Juniper Networks On Friday June 3, 2011, 12:00 am EDT
TOKYO--(Marketwire - 06/03/11) - Juniper Networks (NYSE:JNPR - News) today announced that the Science Information Network (SINET), which connects more than 700 universities and research institutions throughout Japan, has migrated to a next-generation backbone designed to efficiently handle demand for increasingly higher amounts of bandwidth, services and users. SINET4 leverages the power of Juniper Networks® MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers, the Junos® operating system and Junos Software Development Kit (SDK) to deliver dynamic network services and significantly improved performance, with increased capacity and higher interface rates, to a larger number of institutions.
SINET is primarily used for research applications requiring massive file transfers and ultra-high-speed in areas such as high-energy physics, nuclear fusion science, space and astronomical science, genome analysis, nanotechnology research, simulation sciences, and grid computing. It is also connected to other high-speed research networks, such as Internet2 in the U.S. and GÉANT2 in Europe, to support international research collaboration.
"High-speed networking for academic research is always at the leading edge because for some researchers there is no such thing as enough performance or bandwidth," said Shigeo Urushidani, Professor of the National Institute of Informatics (NII), which manages SINET. "To achieve the goals set out for SINET4 we needed a routing infrastructure that was both more scalable and more dynamic in terms of service delivery. The Juniper Networks MX Series provides us with multidimensional scalability to keep growing bandwidth, services and users while the Junos SDK enables us to develop and create more dynamic network applications."
SINET4 adds to the multiple network Layer 1, 2 and 3 services that were provided by SINET3 while paving the way for resource-on-demand delivery and the introduction of higher-layer services. Researchers at the National Institute of Informatics are using the Junos SDK to build and evaluate network applications on each virtual slice that leverage the power of Junos to orchestrate dynamic configuration changes across the SINET4 backbone infrastructure.
"SINET4 is a real showcase for Juniper Networks' silicon and software technologies that go into making the new network," said Mike Marcellin, vice president of marketing and business strategy, Juniper Networks. "Junos is the key since it provides a programmable, integrated approach to network design, creating a consistent cross-network platform that enables NII to innovate a new generation of dynamic network services with the Junos SDK."
At the heart of SINET4, Juniper Networks MX960 3D routers have been deployed at eight points-of-presence across the country, including super nodes in Tokyo and Osaka. With 2.6 Tbps per router, the MX960s provide a foundation for massive scalability and support for wire-speeds up to 100Gbps. They are configured with Juniper Networks Multiservice Dense Port Concentrators, which simultaneously enable a broad range of applications and services, such as advanced IPsec, J-Flow accounting and tunnel services.

Juniper Falls After CEO Says Economy Is Affecting Performance
By Adam Satariano - Jun 1, 2011 2:33 PM MT
Juniper Networks Inc. (JNPR) dropped the most in more than two years after it said weakness in the overall economy is affecting performance and that most sales for the quarter will come toward the end of the period.
Sales so far in the three months ending June 30 indicate a “back-end loaded quarter,” said Kevin Johnson, chief executive officer of the second-largest maker of computer networking equipment, who spoke at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch U.S. Technology Conference in New York.
“There is reason to be somewhat cautious, but yet maintain optimism about the long-term growth models that we’ve outlined and the demand for networking long-term,” he said.
Investors reacted to the comments because they could imply the company, which typically gets about half its sales in the last month of the quarter, may be lagging behind its financial targets, Michael Genovese, an analyst at MKM Partners LP in Greenwich, Connecticut said. Juniper, which competes with larger rival Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO), may need a better June that normal, Genovese said.
“If they don’t have a good June, they are going to miss,” said Genovese, who recommends buying the shares.
Juniper, based in Sunnyvale, California, tumbled $3.64, or 10 percent, to $32.97 at 4:15 p.m. New York time in Nasdaq Stock Market trading. It was the company’s steepest fall since January 30, 2009, according to Bloomberg data. The shares have fallen 11 percent this year.
Juniper’s decline also contributed to a drop for Ciena Corp. (CIEN), a Linthicum, Maryland-based maker of network gear for U.S. phone companies, Genovese said. Ciena fell $1.27, or 4.8 percent, to $25.48 in Nasdaq trading.
Auriga is out with its report today on Juniper Networks (NASDAQ: JNPR), downgrading JNPR from Buy to Hold.
In a note to clients, Auriga writes, "We downgrade Juniper Networks to Hold from Buy and also reduce our price target to $40 from $50 as we think the rising industry momentum behind OpenFlow standard in cloud/data-center could negatively impact JNPR's prospects in the switching segment. We are also expecting intensifying competition in the core routing and security segment from new players to pressure longer-term growth prospects. We expect JNPR to benefit from continued share gains in the edge routers, favorable secular trends and entry into new markets like packet-transport and mobile (EPC). But our scaled back expectations from switching, core routing and PTX lead us to reduce our CY11/12 estimates and also our five-year top-line CAGR to 16%-18% from our prior 20% estimate."
Jefferies lowers its PT on JNPR from $50 to $40.

Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR) today announced that MegaFon, one of Russia's major mobile networks and the first to launch national 3G services, has implemented Juniper Networks® SRX Services Gateways and MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers to deliver its subscribers secure, scalable and faster high performance mobile Internet services. MegaFon currently has more than 56 million subscribers, to whom it offers a wide range of services including long-distance communications, fixed-line and mobile broadband Internet and convergent services. MegaFon is the only mobile network company in Russia operating its own network, and it needed to move from slow legacy systems to a 3G/LTE network to meet continued growth and maintain market differentiation. MegaFon's aim was to upgrade its NAT Gateways that provide access to the Internet for mobile subscribers and ensure a high number of simultaneous sessions in the main regions can be supported.
Juniper Networks SRX Services Gateway, the industry's leading solution for securing mobile networks and applications requirements for service providers, were implemented by MegaFon to support its increasing number of sessions today and provide the necessary scale to future-proof its network. Running on the Junos® operating system that delivers operational efficiency across Juniper solutions, the high-end SRX Series can handle up to 10 million concurrent sessions and up to 120 Gbps of firewall throughput. In addition to the extensive firewall and network address translation capabilities, the SRX Series can support a wide range of services including intrusion detection and prevention, application security, protection from distributed denial of service attacks, traffic management and dynamic routing without the need for additional service-specific hardware.
"Russia's mobile services market has evolved rapidly in line with demand for ubiquitous access to rich data services. As a result, we aim to entrench our market leadership by making the mobile Internet a convenient, secure and effective tool for our customers through our 3G services," said Igor Parfenov, chief technical officer, MegaFon. "Juniper Networks' networking and security solutions provide MegaFon with a highly scalable and reliable infrastructure by eliminating bottlenecks to an open mobile Internet experience."
"Service providers need to meet rapidly increasing demand for bandwidth, scale, security and performance. To do this they require a scalable network architecture capable of delivering a range of world class services," said Mike Marcellin, vice president, product marketing and business strategy, Platform Systems Group, Juniper Networks. "MegaFon's implementation of next-generation Juniper solutions gives them a competitive edge, focused on supporting and expanding their customer base with high quality advanced data services."
Deployment of Juniper Networks MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers has enabled MegaFon to simplify its core and edge network while increasing network capacity, flexibility and reliability. The MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers deliver high port-density routing and switching for service providers and enterprises. MX Series enable quality of experience by processing two to four times more traffic than the competition -- up to 2.6 terabits per second -- while using half as much power per gigabit.
Juniper Networks' local partner on the MegaFon deployment was Inline, a specialized provider in mobile telecom services nationwide.

This year's conference also marks the first time that Juniper Networks' partners can attend virtually from the convenience of their own computers. The virtual element is a perfect example of the company's vision of Innovative Partnering, enabling Juniper Networks to extend the reach of the conference to partners throughout the Americas.
Juniper Networks Invests in Innovation, Leadership and Partner Value
In recent months, Juniper Networks has brought to market unrivaled innovations including Juniper Networks® Junos® Pulse Mobile Security Suite, vGW Series Virtual Gateway, MobileNext, the QFabric™ solution, and Converged Supercore. The company unveiled its Junos Software Developer Kits (SDKs) for Junos and Junos Space and has since attracted more than 100 development partners who are actively working together to inspire and develop interactive network application solutions that are tailored to fit the needs of Juniper Networks partners.
Juniper also made a number of strategic leadership announcements, welcoming IT industry executives Umeoka and Luanne Tierney to its Worldwide Partners team, and introducing talent from other regions into the marketing organization such as Canada's Peter Finter to ensure a truly global organization.
Earlier this year, Juniper Networks expanded its Juniper Learning Academy curriculum, announcing the Continuing Education Program which empowers sales and system engineers with valuable knowledge and skills through a variety of on-demand formats including online training, webcasts, videos and virtual labs. For Juniper's partners, these online and on-demand resources enable their engineers to simulate hands-on product experience without traveling and incurring additional costs.
A Clear Vision for Partner Marketing
At the conference Tierney, Juniper Networks' vice president of Worldwide Partner Marketing, will debut a new vision of co-marketing that will enable partners to capitalize on Juniper Networks' brand presence and market momentum.
"Juniper Networks' brand recognition is expanding across the globe and we're gaining tremendous momentum in the marketplace," says Tierney. "We're making strategic investments, specifically around co-marketing, that will help our partners take advantage of the Juniper Networks brand while also differentiating their own businesses and service offerings. We're focused on becoming our partners' trusted marketing advisor to help them drive demand and accelerate growth."

New World Telecom Picks Juniper Networks to Power Highly Scalable and Flexible Next-Generation Metro Ethernet Services
Juniper Alliance Partner Nokia Siemens Networks Provides Strategic Solution Integration
Press Release Source: Juniper Networks On Tuesday March 29, 2011, 8:00 am EDT
HONG KONG--(Marketwire - 03/29/11) - Juniper Networks (NYSE:JNPR - News) today announced that its new network architecture has been selected by New World Telecommunications Limited (New World Telecom) to provide the foundation for its next-generation of scalable and flexible Metro Ethernet services. In partnership with service provider technology alliance partner Nokia Siemens Networks, Juniper is enabling New World Telecom to meet the demanding expectations of its mobile service providers and business customers while improving the economics of scaling and managing the point-to-point, any-to-any connection network.
Over the last 15 years, New World Telecommunications has established a strong presence in the Hong Kong market for its Metro Ethernet and International Ethernet Private Line services. Its next-generation of Ethernet-based services, built on the reliability and resiliency of the Juniper Networks® MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers powered by the Junos® operating system, are being developed to meet customer demand for high-capacity links and to support the requirements of new 4G mobile services.
"Backhaul is a very important segment of our Metro Ethernet market and Hong Kong's mobile operators are already planning their network migration to LTE," said Johnny Cheung, Executive Vice President, Networks and IT of New World Telecom. "Our next-generation of Metro Ethernet provides high bandwidth and clocking synchronization features compliant for LTE build outs, and Juniper's MX Series proved to be highly efficient and the highest performing solution optimized to meet our requirements."
The Juniper Networks MX960 and MX480 3D Universal Edge Routers selected by New World Telecom are high-throughput, fully redundant platforms providing high port densities in a compact, energy-efficient form factor. Modular Port Concentrators (MPC), Juniper's advanced line modules based on the Junos Trio chipset that will enable New World Telecom to mix-and-match interfaces to create customized, service-specific chassis configurations.
"New World Telecom has to conform to some very stringent service level agreements with its mobile network customers that will become even more demanding -- especially in terms of latency -- as they migrate their networks to LTE," said Mike Marcellin, vice president, product marketing and business strategy, Platform Systems Group, Juniper Networks. "The selection of Juniper by New World Telecom affirms the flexibility and scalability of the MX Series and Junos OS in next-generation Metro Ethernet deployments."
Junos Trio, Juniper Networks' next-generation silicon technology, is a suite of service-specific Network Instruction Set Processors that together deliver advanced forwarding, queuing, scheduling and services with the capacity to scale beyond 100 Gbps per MX Series slot. Junos Trio also enhances the MX Series with support for inline services without compromise, allowing customers to cost-effectively add services simply by "turning on" the service via the Junos operating system.
Juniper Networks Expands Mobile Internet Portfolio With Carrier-Class Network Synchronization and Timing Solution
Tuesday , March 22, 2011 09:30ET
SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/22/11 -- Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR) today announced the Juniper Networks® TCA Series Timing Appliance portfolio to provide high -- precision timing and synchronization critical for time-sensitive applications. Designed to provide sub-microsecond time and phase accuracy, the TCA Series delivers scalable and flexible timing for mobile networks to ensure high quality of experience.
Based on technology acquired from Brilliant Telecommunications, the TCA Series consists of TCA8000 Timing Servers, TCA6000 Timing Clients, and SyncEMS Management Software providing precise end-to-end timing and non-intrusive one-way monitoring of delay and jitter. The Timing Appliance solution supports standards-based timing capabilities, including ITU Stratum clocking and IEEE Std 1588-2008 (also known as Precision Time Protocol, or PTP), to enable service providers to deploy and monitor time-sensitive applications in IP-based networks.
With the addition of TCA Series, the Juniper Networks' mobile Internet portfolio enables mobile operators to deploy cost effective carrier Ethernet and IP solutions while protecting investment in circuit-based T1/E1 technologies in the radio access network. The timing accuracy, scalability, and reliability of the TCA Series ensure seamless handoff between 2G/3G/4G base stations in mobile backhaul networks to deliver a rich quality of experience for mobile Internet applications. Lack of synchronization at the base station could lead to RF interference that results in degraded call quality, increased dropped calls during handoffs, excessive call setup times, lower bandwidth and inefficient usage of spectrum.
"As mobile backhaul networks transition to packet-based transport networks, providing reliable clock synchronization over these networks has become a critical requirement," said Rami Rahim, senior vice president of Juniper Networks. "The industry-leading technology assets from Brilliant Telecommunications will enable tighter integration in our mobile backhaul solution and extend our offerings to converged service providers, allowing them to deliver superior experience for multimedia applications which will dominate traffic in the future."

Auriga Raises Price Target on Juniper Networks (JNPR), Maintains Buy Rating
7:33 am ET 02/17/2011
Auriga is maintaining their Buy rating on shares of Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR) as an industry expert suggested that the company's best-in-class products may provide a better migration path over Cisco Systems (NASDAQ: CSCO) new products. They state that CSCO's products are lacking key features and don't provide a seamless migration path to the existing customer base, company isn't expected to change the issue until 4Q11. Auriga reports that they are still positive on shares of CSCO for the long run, but "JNPR is gaining new customers in service provider and enterprise/service provider segments for routers and high-end switches, which should lead to accelerated growth over the next 3-4 years. Even after CSCO fixes product glitches later this year, we expect the product discontinuity to remain, which should allow JNPR to potentially gain some additional market share over time.
As a result of their recent talks with experts and the recent trends in the market, the firm is raising their price target on Juniper Networks to $54 from $45.

Cisco to Report — but Juniper Sees Bullish Action

Many traders are awaiting results from Cisco Systems after the bell today (Wednesday), but it was rival Juniper Networks that turned heads yesterday in the option market.
OptionMonster's tracking systems detected the purchase of more than 6,500 February 42 calls on Juniper. The first few big chunks priced for $0.33, but then premiums rose to $0.34 and $0.36. Trading was also active in the March 44 contracts, which changed hands more than 4,000 times for $0.40 to $0.58.
Overall volume in the name was almost 25,000 contracts, more than double its daily average. Of that total fewer than 4,000 were puts, so a bullish tone definitely predominated. There was also bullish call buying in the name on Friday.
Juniper focuses on networking software and systems for data centers, consumers, and cloud-computing providers. The stock [JNPR 40.39 0.10 (+0.25%) ] ended yesterday's session up 0.47 percent at $40.29, continuing to bounce after pulling back to around $34.50 last month. (See ticker, above, for today's real-time moves.)
Cisco, it should be noted, didn't have as positive a session because most of its calls were sold. The stock [CSCO 22.095 0.105 (+0.48%) ] has rallied back after a weak earnings report in November, but now it's facing overhead resistance at its 200-day moving average.

Juniper Networks Set to Gain as Tech `Purgatory' Ends: Technical Analysis
By Elizabeth Stanton - Dec 9, 2010 12:50 PM MT
Technology shares are likely to lead U.S. equities higher over the next two years, and Juniper Networks Inc. appears poised to be among the best performers, according to Royal Bank of Canada.
“Technology is emerging after five-plus years of technical purgatory,” Robert Sluymer, a technical market analyst at the bank’s RBC Capital Markets Inc. unit in New York, wrote in a report today. The 75 makers of computer hardware and software and semiconductors in the S&P 500 account for 19 percent of its market value, the most among 10 industries.
Juniper Networks, the second-largest U.S. maker of computer networking equipment after Cisco Systems Inc., “is poised to break out of a multiyear trading range,” Sluymer wrote. RBC expects economic and earnings growth to fuel gains in stock prices next year. Technology stocks, out of favor for years following their collapse from 2000 to 2002, are “increasingly showing technical evidence of becoming a leadership theme through 2012,” Sluymer wrote.
Energy stocks led the S&P 500’s advance from March 2003 to October 2007, more than tripling as a group while the index rose 88 percent. Technology shares gained 97 percent, less than five of the index’s 10 industries. Since the end of 2008, technology stocks in the S&P 500 have gained 74 percent, more than double the 36 percent return for the index.
“In contrast to the last bull cycle, where technology only participated for a first couple of quarters, in this cycle we believe technology will participate strongly,” Sluymer said in an interview.
Juniper Networks, which declined 16 percent from the end of 2004 through June 30 compared with a 15 percent drop for the S&P 500, has risen 53 percent through yesterday, more than twice the index’s 19 percent advance. The company is his top recommendation for 2011.
Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. was Sluymer’s top recommendation for 2010. The world’s second-largest network- security company gained 32 percent this year through yesterday, compared with a 10 percent advance by the S&P 500 and an 8.7 percent gain for its technology stocks.
Juniper Secures Apple iPad for Mobile Enterprises
Thursday , December 09, 2010 08:00ET
SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/09/10 -- Juniper Networks® (NYSE: JNPR) today announced the Junos® Pulse App for the iPad, which enables anytime, anywhere secure remote access and connectivity to all enterprise resources, is now available for free download on iOS 4.2 from the Apple iTunes App Store. With more than 65 percent of Fortune 500 companies deploying or piloting the iPad and 7.5 million iPad's sold worldwide(1), securing the device while enabling productivity for the enterprises has become paramount.
The Junos Pulse App for the iPad is part of Juniper's broader Junos Pulse platform. It builds on the market-leading Juniper Networks SA Series SSL VPN solution that already enables more than 25 million end users to remotely and securely connect their devices, including laptops and smartphones, to corporate networks. The Junos Pulse App has been built for ease of use and seamless deployment so enterprises can enable the mobile workforce of iPad, iPhone and iPod touch users to be productive and secure.
Providing a secure environment enables enterprise IT departments to empower their mobile workforce and enhance user experience. For example, an iPad-enabled enterprise sales force can securely and easily generate quotes, submit expense reports, access CRM systems, all on-the-go from their iPad regardless of whether they are on the corporate network, a local Wi-Fi hotspot or the latest 3G/4G network.
"It is a corporate requirement for us to provide the highest form of secure remote access to our employees who use a variety of mobile productivity devices, including iPad's," said Ruy Neto, Technology Manager at Terra. Based in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Terra, a Juniper customer, is a Latin American online media company with 70 million users in 17 Latin American countries as well as in the U.S. Its 1,100 employees are spread across several cities including as Brasilia, Mexico DF, Miami, New York and Santiago. Terra has recently deployed iPads for its executive staff in Brazil and is rolling out Junos Pulse to secure them. "With Junos Pulse we have peace of mind that our corporate devices and information are secure when our executives are accessing internal systems and the corporate intranet from their mobile devices," Neto said.
Juniper customers currently using Juniper's SSL VPN solution can begin deploying it immediately to their global workforce. In addition to providing secure connectivity for the iPad and Apple iOS, Junos Pulse also offers security for Android, BlackBerry, Symbian, and Windows Mobile operating systems.
"Early indications are showing that the iPad is a revolutionary device that will enable a level of mobile productivity we haven't seen before," said Jeremy Duke, founder and principal analyst, Synergy Research Group. "However, IT administrators have been resistant to embracing these new mobile devices due to valid security concerns. Juniper's Junos Pulse App addresses these concerns, providing the necessary protection to enable these new mobile devices to be fully deployed in the enterprise."
"Our customers have started to deploy iPads to enable the productivity of their mobile workforce," said Sanjay Beri, vice president and general manager Access and Acceleration Business Unit, Service Layer Technologies Business Group at Juniper Networks. "Juniper's Junos Pulse App for iPad now provides the level of security customers require, removing the main barrier to enterprise adoption. Organizations can now have peace of mind that their mobile workforce is secure whether they are using laptops, smartphones or tablets. "
The Junos Pulse App for iPad iOS 4.2 is now available for free from the iTunes App Store at www.itunes.com/appstore/.
