12 women sue FBI over alleged failure to protect them from Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse
By Nicki Brown, CNN
Updated 12:06 AM EST, Thu February 15, 2024
The FBI’s “repeated and continued failures, delays and inaction” allowed Jeffrey Epstein to continue his sex trafficking operation for more than 20 years, 12 alleged victims claimed in a lawsuit filed Wednesday.
The suit, filed against the United States in the Southern District of New York, claims the FBI’s negligence resulted in the continued sexual abuse of the 12 alleged victims, who are not named in the lawsuit.
“For over two decades, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (hereinafter ‘FBI’) permitted Jeffrey Epstein to sex traffic and sexually abuse scores of children and young women by failing to do the job the American people expected of it and that the FBI’s own rules and regulations required: investigate the reports, tips, and evidence it had of rampant sexual abuse and sex trafficking by Epstein and protect the young women and children who fell victim to him,” the lawsuit reads.

So, the trickle down of information will continue until someday we have the full picture. Prolly after a lot of the perps are dead, unfortunately.
“All files related to Jeffrey Epstein’s criminal activity should be made public. While the federal government continues to stonewall accountability, I’m glad the Legislature has taken action to release the grand jury material from the Florida state case."
Gov. DeSantis
The Florida Legislature has unanimously passed a bill that will allow the release of the 2006 grand jury transcripts related to the investigation of Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual assaults on underage girls. These transcripts would become accessible to the public if signed by Governor Ron DeSantis. However, a South Florida circuit judge might release them sooner as part of a lawsuit filed by The Palm Beach Post. The Post had previously sued the Palm Beach County state attorney and the court clerk in 2019 to unseal the grand jury proceedings and reveal why minimal charges were brought against Epstein. The new bill also specifies that records can be released if the subject of the grand jury inquiry is deceased or if the investigation is related to sexual activity with a minor1.
Jeffrey Epstein, a wealthy resident of Palm Beach, was investigated in 2006 for allegedly sexually abusing young girls at his mansion. He was accused of paying underage girls for massages at his homes in Florida and New York, where he then molested them. Epstein died by suicide in a New York City federal jail cell in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. Florida’s handling of the Epstein case came under scrutiny following investigative reporting by the Miami Herald in 20182.
Governor DeSantis’s commitment to signing this bill reflects a step toward transparency and accountability in a case that has drawn significant attention and controversy.

Nothing would really surprise me, Ding. Why I immediately felt this whole matter was going to be multilayered, long running and ultimately revealing.

Two women tried to expose Jeffrey Epstein three decades ago. Why didn’t the FBI stop him?
Story by Andrea Blanco
Irish Independent
Annie Farmer knew the answers she’d been looking for nearly three decades would not magically appear in the more than 4,000 pages of Jeffrey Epstein documents unsealed this month. But she hoped she might get some semblance of an explanation.
Because Annie wasn’t just a victim of Epstein — she was a whistleblower. After being molested as a teenager by Epstein and his associate, convicted child abuser Ghislaine Maxwell, her sister reported what they knew to the FBI. They expected a full-scale investigation. What they got was 10 years of silence.

Hi Ding, I just arrived home in South Florida last night after a long ride from the upper Piedmont Region of the US.
Very cold up there. And surprisingly cool down here.
Thanks for your kind words. I appreciate that feedback. It encourages me to continue on.
I started the Jeffrey Epstein board because I immediately felt this was going to involve so many important areas. And be long-term so best to chronicle it.
So far, the American public seems to be getting stiff-armed by our regulatory agencies.
How can it be that four years later not one person has been brought to justice for child rape. Reportedly the government has Epstein's black book, tapes, witness debriefings- everything.
This further undermines our confidence in government- if we even have any left?
Where is the mainstream media? Shirking its job, certainly.
It seems even researchers/writers can't spur the government into action. *
Very easy to be discouraged but let's remain good citizens by being vigilant!

🚨 JEFFREY EPSTEIN WAS AN AGENT OF ISRAEL. THE EVIDENCE:
🇮🇱 Former Israeli Intelligence officer Ari Ben-Menashe alleges Epstein ran a honeypot for Mossad after being recruited by Ghislaine Maxwell
🇮🇱 Maria Farmer, the first victim to report Epstein to the FBI, said everyone involved in the operation was a Jewish supremacist who racially abused her as a non-Jew - she claimed the operation was led by the Mega group
🇮🇱 Mega group is an organisation of exclusively Jewish billionaires set up to fund Jewish and pro-Israel causes
🇮🇱 One of the co-founders of Mega was Victora' Secret owner Les Wexner, who provided Epstein with his $77 million house in Manhattan which he used for his blackmail ring
🇮🇱 NY Times article from the 1990s reported on the apartment when Wexner owned it, describing it as reminiscent of James Bond movies
🇮🇱 Wexner was the only client of Epstein's mysterious hedge fund and the apparent source of his wealth
🇮🇱 Epstein was hired to work for Bear Stearns in 1970 by Alan Greenberg, another member of Mega group. Prior to this Epstein was just a school teacher
🇮🇱 Mega group member Ronald Lauder is president of the World Jewish Congress and has been a big donor to Netanyahu's Likud party
🇮🇱 Epstein's associate Ghislaine Maxwell is the daughter of Robert Maxwell, a top Mossad spy.
🇮🇱 Robert Maxwell's business partner was Charles Bronfman, a co-founder of the Mega group
🇮🇱 Epstein's lawyer and long-time friend Alan Dershowitz is an ultra-Zionist, author of The Case for Israel, and was considered by Israel to represent them at the ICJ
🇮🇱 Epstein had multiple meetings with former Israeli PM Ehud Barak in his New York apartment
🇮🇱 Les Wexner's Wexner Foundation gave Barak $2 million in 2004 for still unspecified research
🇮🇱 Barak says he was first introduced to Epstein by former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres, who gave a eulogy at Robert Maxwells funeral
🇮🇱 Epstein and Barak were business partners in a tech company - the company’s executive team were all former members of Israeli intelligence
The conclusion is unavoidable: Jeffrey Epstein was running a blackmail operation for Israel, backed by very powerful and connected Zionists with ties to the very top of the Israeli government.
Excellent point, Dingbatt. So many loose ends to all this...

Records show Epstein’s requests for multiple passports, travels
ABC News
More formally sealed documents have now been released
In June 2011, the U.S. Department of State received an urgent request from an American businessman who sought a second U.S passport for impending trips to Europe and multiple African nations.
"I am frequently required on extremely short notice to schedule international trips with itineraries to multiple destinations requiring me to obtain multiple visas at the same time, which is simply not possible on such short notice without a second passport," the letter said.
The applicant, who identified himself as the president of an international financial consulting firm, said he had business trips scheduled in the coming weeks to France, Sierra Leone, Mali and Gabon.
"Please issue me a second passport so I may have the 3 visas issued for Africa while I am using my current passport in France," he wrote.
The businessman's name: Jeffrey Edward Epstein.
Three years earlier, Epstein had pleaded guilty in Florida to solicitation of an underaged girl, a felony that required him to register as a sex offender for life.
The letter is found among several passport applications and renewal forms submitted over three decades by Epstein, whose staggering wealth and proximity to power have long defied ready explanation.
More than 50 pages from Epstein's files were obtained by ABC News in a public records request to the State Department. The records span from the early 1980s, when Epstein was an unknown bushy-haired broker from Brooklyn, to 2019, when his indictment in New York for alleged sex-trafficking of children made him notorious worldwide.
The documents reveal Epstein's penchant for reporting lost passports and his intentions to travel to far-flung destinations, including several countries -- Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, and Senegal -- that have not appeared in other accounts of Epstein's travel.
The earliest application is from April 1983 when Epstein sought to replace a lost passport in time for an upcoming trip to London. In barely legible handwriting, then 30-year-old Epstein lists his occupation as "banker" and his address as an apartment on Manhattan's Upper East Side. The stapled color photograph depicts Epstein, who in later years favored loose-fitting track suits, in a crisp black suit and glossy tie.
In the mid-1980s, Epstein was a college dropout who taught math at an exclusive Manhattan private school and later worked for five years as a self-described "financial strategist" on Wall Street. After an abrupt exit from Bear Stearns, he claimed to have launched a career as a self-employed investment adviser for the uber-rich.
Epstein twice more in the 1980s reported his U.S. passport lost or stolen; once left behind in a London black taxi, and once stolen "out of [his] jacket pocket" as he dined at a restaurant, according to his explanations in the files.
In an application to replace his passport on Feb. 26, 1985, Epstein reported he was then residing in London. The address he provided, which has not previously been associated with Epstein, is in an area surrounded by foreign embassies.
In his affidavit of loss, Epstein indicated he had a flight booked the next day to Sweden. Less than a week later, former Miss Sweden Eva Andersson was the host of a televised musical contest in the country. Video of the event, unearthed by YouTube user "Green Clown2021," shows Epstein in the audience, clapping half-heartedly between musical acts. Andersson would later testify, in Ghislaine Maxwell's criminal trial in 2021, that she and Epstein dated on and off in the 1980's.
Epstein's 1993 passport application shows his hair graying and his fortunes improving. His listed address on East 69th in New York City was the former residence of the Iranian ambassador which had been taken over by the State Department before Epstein rented the property. The government later terminated Epstein's lease after he sublet the townhouse, without permission, and jacked up the rent.
The records obtained by ABC News also contain multiple instances in which Epstein applied for a second passport "in order to avoid conflicting visa stamps" when traveling to Israel and certain Arab states, including Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
Epstein had long-standing connections to Ehud Barak, a former prime minister of Israel. Barak publicly acknowledged visiting Epstein "more than ten but much less than a hundred" times, including one visit to Epstein's private estate in the U.S. Virgin Islands. He told The Daily Beast in 2019 that he had "never attended a party" with Epstein and had never met with him "in the company of women or girls."
MORE: Court documents naming Jeffrey Epstein's associates unsealed
A New York Times columnist reported in 2019 that Epstein had boasted, without evidence, of speaking often with Mohammed bin Salman, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia.
"For both safety and business reasons, it is imperative that Mr. Epstein have the necessary flexibility of a second passport," one of his corporate representatives wrote in 2003.
State Department policies permit certain frequent international travelers to carry a second passport, particularly in cases where a visa stamp from one country might prohibit entry into another.
The issue arose again two years later, when Epstein reported a scheduled trip to Israel and Afghanistan.
As part of a request for an additional passport, Epstein submitted travel itineraries indicating he had booked two first-class trips in the spring of 2005.
The first was from London to Tel Aviv on March 29 that year. Epstein also provided details of a journey that would take him on April 7, 2005, to Istanbul, where he would connect through Baku, Azerbaijan, to Kabul. The records do not indicate whether he actually made the trip. On the day of Epstein's scheduled departure from Kabul, the late former U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld made an unannounced visit to the Afghan capital for a joint press conference with President Hamid Karzai. There is no evidence that Rumsfeld and Epstein's visits were connected.
While Epstein was apparently traveling in southern Asia, police officers in southern Florida were hunting for evidence in trash cans outside his Palm Beach mansion. Three weeks earlier, the parents of a 14-year-old girl had reported to police that their daughter had been molested by a white-haired man who went by the name "Jeff." The police investigation that followed would turn up dozens of alleged underage minor victims and begin a saga that would ultimately lead to Epstein's permanent status as a sex offender.
But that designation would have little impact on Epstein's ability to obtain a U.S. passport or to travel internationally, until Congress passed the "International Megan's Law" in 2016. That legislation allowed the government to revoke the passports of sex offenders, who must re-apply for a special passport carrying a notice inside that reads, "The bearer was convicted of a sex offense against a minor, and is a covered sex offender," according to the State Department. It also strengthened a requirement that registered sex offenders provide advance notice of all intended international travel.
Epstein's files indicate that a passport issued to him in 2016, and valid for ten years, was revoked. A second passport valid until 2020 was also revoked. His final application in the state department files indicates his last US passport was issued in March of 2019.
ABC News has previously obtained records of the United States Marshals Service that show the agency was looking into Epstein's foreign trips. "Investigation reveals EPSTEIN travels Internationally quite frequently using private planes and may have failed to report all his International travel," a January 2019 report stated.
Six months later, he was arrested at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey, after his private Gulfstream Jet touched down from Paris. A federal indictment charged him with conspiracy and child sex-trafficking.
When FBI agents executed a search warrant at Epstein's New York home later that day, they found a locked safe that contained 48 loose diamonds and $70,000 in cash.
Also recovered were three U.S. passports and one Austrian passport with Epstein's picture, but with someone else's name and an address in Saudi Arabia.
Epstein's defense attorneys, seeking to secure bail for their client, said that two of the US passports were expired. The foreign passport, they claimed, was given to Epstein "by a friend," and he had never used it to travel. They argued he received it in the 1980s for personal protection when traveling in the Middle East.
"Some Jewish-Americans were informally advised at the time to carry identification bearing a non-Jewish name when traveling internationally in case of hijacking," his attorney said.
Partly because of that foreign passport and Epstein's history of international travel, a judge determined Epstein was a flight risk and refused to grant bail. Three weeks later, Epstein was dead. His death was ruled a suicide by hanging.
Following his death, the Marshals service investigation into his travel was dropped.
Thomas Volscho, a contributor to ABC News, is a professor of sociology at City University of New York, Staten Island. He is writing a book about the tactics of wealthy sex-traffickers.

Documents name alleged Epstein associates previously identified by accuser
ABC News
Another batch of documents pertaining to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was unsealed Tuesday.
More are expected to come out next week.
The seven documents unsealed Tuesday total 1,482 pages. They're the last set to be made public pursuant to the court's order authorizing the release last month. Over 215 documents have been released since last week.
The unsealed documents include several depositions from Ghislaine Maxwell, one from Epstein, one from alleged Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre and another from Sarah Ransome, an alleged adult victim of Epstein, who was referenced throughout Monday's unsealing.
The records are part of a defamation lawsuit brought by Giuffre against Maxwell, Epstein's longtime companion, that the two settled in 2017. Epstein died by suicide in a Manhattan jail while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.
The Giuffre deposition included in the new batch comes from her testimony in a related defamation case filed by her lawyers against former Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz in a Florida state court. In that deposition, she names billionaire retail magnate Les Wexner as "one of the powerful business executives" that she was trafficked to.
Wexner, who in 1991 granted Epstein power-of-attorney over his personal finances, has never been charged with a crime. After Epstein's arrest in 2019, ABC News obtained a message Wexner issued to employees at L Brands that said, "When Mr. Epstein was my personal money manager, he was involved in many aspects of my financial life. But let me assure you that I was NEVER aware of the illegal activity charged in the indictment."
Following Epstein's death in August 2019, Wexner accused Epstein of misappropriating "vast sums" of his personal fortune more than a decade earlier.
Wexner stepped down from his executive role at L Brands – the conglomerate behind retail staples Victoria's Secret, Bath & Body Works and Pink – in February 2020.
Wexner's charitable foundation did not immediately respond to ABC News' messages seeking comment on the filings released Tuesday.
The deposition also contains the names of men Giuffre has previously claimed she had been trafficked to, including Britain's Prince Andrew, Hyatt Hotel chief Thomas Pritzker, the late artificial intelligence pioneer Marvin Minsky and the late New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson.
Pritzker and Richardson previously issued statements denying the allegations.
Minsky died in 2016, before Giuffre's allegations naming him were released in 2019 by the 2nd Circuit.
MORE: Court documents naming Jeffrey Epstein's associates to be unsealed: What to know
Giuffre's 2016 deposition also includes her claim that she met former President Bill Clinton not once but twice on Jeffrey Epstein's private Caribbean island toward the end of her time in Epstein's orbit in September 2002 – something he has denied.
Giuffre said she met Clinton "On Little Saint Jeff's," referring to the island properly known as Little Saint James
She claimed to have been at a dinner with Clinton and two girls: "Young, beautiful like every girl that's generally around Jeffrey."
The second meeting was also on the island and also involved a dinner, she said. "Very similar, I mean, there was a dinner, lots of laughing, lots of joking, it was just a dinner and then I didn't have to do anything with Bill Clinton, he was never sexually involved with me. I've never witnessed him sexually involved with anybody else. Jeffrey asked me for a massage after dinner and I went off to Jeffrey's cabana," she said.
Clinton, through a spokesman, denied in 2019 ever being on Epstein's island and said he was not aware of Epstein's criminal behavior.
No documentary evidence has been presented that Clinton was on the island.
Personal flight logs kept by one of Epstein's pilots -- which surfaced in separate lawsuits against Epstein -- showed that Clinton and his entourage had flown extensively on Epstein's jumbo-jet to international destinations such as Paris, Bangkok and Brunei in 2002 and 2003. But none of the available records included the former president on a trip to Epstein's island.
Maxwell also denied Clinton was ever on the island and Giuffre's efforts to depose the former president to ask him whether he had been on the island were rejected by a judge in June 2016.
In a January 2016 email to Maxwell, Epstein encouraged her to focus her effort to discredit Giuffre on Giuffre's version of "the clinton story" which he said could be "easily dsiporived," an apparent typo for "disproved."
Many of the documents released Tuesday have been unsealed and publicly available in various forms. The court is republishing them now with new portions unredacted.
The 134-page Epstein deposition had not been previously released but he was known to have invoked his Fifth Amendment right hundreds of times.
The records unsealed Monday included photos from Ransome and an exhibit that mentions discredited allegations Ransome made about Clinton, former President Donald Trump, Prince Andrew and Virgin Group founder Richard Branson. She later admitted the claims were false.
Neither Clinton, nor Trump, nor Branson was accused by Giuffre, or anyone else besides Ransome, of any wrongdoing in the course of Giuffre's defamation lawsuit against Maxwell. Trump has said he cut-off contact with Epstein many years ago.
In a statement to ABC News on Tuesday, the Virgin Group, on behalf of Branson, said Ransome's allegations against him are "false, baseless, and unfounded."
Prince Andrew has long denied allegations that he had sex with Giuffre on three occasions, as she has claimed in court records and interviews. In 2022, Andrew settled a case Giuffre brought against him.
Maxwell is serving a 20-year prison sentence after she was convicted in 2021 of aiding Epstein's sex trafficking of young women and girls. Her appeal will be heard in March.

James the Great[a] (died AD 44) was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. According to the New Testament, he was the second of the apostles to die (after Judas Iscariot), and the first to be martyred.[1] Saint James is the patron saint of Spain and, according to tradition, his remains are held in Santiago de Compostela in Galicia.
He is also known as James, son of Zebedee, Saint James the Great, Saint James the Greater, Saint James the Elder, or Saint Jacob.
In the New Testament
James was the son of Zebedee and Salome. Salome was a sister of Mary (mother of Jesus) which made James the Great cousin of Jesus. James is styled "the Greater" to distinguish him from the Apostle James "the Less," with "greater" meaning older or taller, rather than more important. James the Great was the brother of John the Apostle.[2]
James is described as one of the first disciples to join Jesus. The Synoptic Gospels state that James and John were with their father by the seashore when Jesus called them to follow him.[3]
James, along with his brother John and Peter, formed an informal triumvirate among the Twelve Apostles. Jesus allowed them to be the only apostles present at three particular occasions during his public ministry, the raising of Jairus' daughter,[4] transfiguration of Jesus[5] and agony in the Garden of Gethsemane.[6] James and John[7] (or, in another tradition, their mother[8]) asked Jesus to grant them seats on his right and left in his glory. Jesus rebuked them, asking if they were ready to drink from the cup he was going to drink from and saying the honor was not even for him to grant. The other apostles were annoyed with them. James and his brother wanted to call down fire on a Samaritan town, but were rebuked by Jesus.[9]
The Acts of the Apostles records that "Herod the king" (usually identified with Herod Agrippa) had James executed by the sword.[1] Nixon suggests that this may have been caused by James's fiery temper,[10] in which he and his brother earned the nickname Boanerges or "Sons of Thunder".[11] F. F. Bruce contrasts this story to that of the Liberation of Saint Peter, and writes that the proposition that "James should die while Peter should escape" is a "mystery of divine providence".[12]

Richard Branson hits back at 'baseless and unfounded' claims he featured in sex tapes made by Jeffrey Epstein

Richard Branson hits back at 'baseless and unfounded' claims he featured in sex tapes made by Jeffrey Epstein
Richard Branson has strongly refuted claims he features in a sex tape filmed by pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Epstein victim Sarah Ransome claims he made sex tapes of billionaire businessman Branson, as well as former US president Bill Clinton, and Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, court documents have disclosed.
Sarah Ransome, who gave a victim impact statement ahead of the sentencing of British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell for sex-trafficking, appeared to write communications claiming the three were filmed by the paedophile financier.
On behalf of Sir Richard, a Virgin Group spokesperson described the claims as "baseless and unfounded".
“In a New Yorker report published in 2019, Ransome admitted that she had ‘invented’ the tapes," said the spokesperson.
“We can confirm that Sarah Ransome’s claims are baseless and unfounded.”
According to the documents, Ms Ransome wrote in an email to a New York Post journalist that she wanted to withdraw her claims about the alleged sex tapes.
"I would like to retract everything I have said to you and walk away from this," Ms Ransome is said to have stated in an email, in October 2016, saying she was worried it could "create pain for [her] family".
The extracts in which Ms Ransome made her original allegations were flagged by a firm representing Epstein’s lawyer, Alan Dershowitz, to demonstrate she “manifestly lacks credibility”.
Ms Ransome has claimed she was forced to have sex with Mr Dershowitz - something he strongly denies.
Prince Andrew stepped down from public life after the furore over his friendship with Epstein, and paid millions to settle a civil sexual assault case with Virginia Giuffre, a woman he claimed never to have met.
He was cast out of the working monarchy and no longer uses his HRH style after Ms Giuffre, who was trafficked by Epstein, accused him of sexually assaulting her when she was 17.
Ghislaine Maxwell claimed she 'never introduced Prince Andrew to Jeffrey Epstein' (PA Media)
The duke strenuously denies any wrongdoing.
A US judge ordered hundreds of documents to be unsealed as part of Ms Giuffre’s previously settled civil claim against Maxwell, which was filed in 2015.
Images were also released as part of the latest tranche of documents, including a resurfaced photo of former Labour minister Lord Mandelson with Epstein on his private island, Little St James.
Addressing the claims about Andrew and Sir Richard in the document released as part of another tranche published on Monday, Ms Ransome wrote: “When my friend had sexual intercourse with Clinton, Prince Andrew and Richard Branson, sex tapes were in fact filmed on each separate occasion by Jeffrey.
“Thank God she managed to get a hold of some footage of the filmed sex tapes, which clearly identify the faces of Clinton, Prince Andrew and Branson having sexual intercourse with her.
“Frustratingly enough Epstein was not seen in any of the footage but he was clever like that!
“When my friend eventually had the courage to speak out and went to the police in 2008 to report what had happened, nothing was done and she was utterly humiliated by the police department where she went to report what had happened with Epstein, Clinton, Branson and Prince Andrew.”
In the letter from Emery Celli Brinckerhoff & Abady LLP to the court, the firm said allegations against Mr Dershowitz were categorically false.
The firm said: “Her (Ms Ransome's) testimony was fabricated from whole cloth. Ms Ransome’s testimony also contains a slew of other incendiary claims concerning the sexual proclivities of Donald Trump, Bill Clinton and other prominent individuals.
“The emails are a necessary antidote to Ms Ransome’s deposition misstatements because they demonstrate she manifestly lacks credibility.”
The email extracts from Ms Ransome also saw her take aim at Hilary Clinton, with one saying: “I will make sure that neither that evil b***h Hillary or that paedophile Trump gets elected.
“I will also make sure that everyone on the God damn planet see’s [sic] that footage and photo’s [sic] and will release them to Wiki leaks by Sunday.”
Ms Ransome also appeared to say she had “reached out to the Russians for help” after claiming her emails had been hacked.
Epstein was found dead in his cell at a federal jail in Manhattan, New York, in August 2019 while he awaited trial on sex-trafficking charges. The death was ruled a suicide.
Maxwell has been imprisoned since July 2020 despite attempts by her defence counsel to have her released on bail.
She was sentenced to 20 years in prison at the federal court in the Southern District of New York in June 2022.
The socialite indicated her desire to appeal shortly after her conviction, with her lawyers claiming victims had “faded, distorted and motivated memories”.
Her appeal is scheduled to be heard in November next year.

Jeffrey Epstein: Fourth batch of court documents released
9th January 2024, 12:25 EST

BBC News
Another tranche of court documents related to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has been released.
The filings of more than 250 pages show one accuser claimed to have seen sex tapes filmed by the disgraced financier.
However, the accuser, Sarah Ransome, later said she wanted to retract the allegations.
She then clarified in an interview on Tuesday said she believed "there are videos that exist".
It's the fourth release of records related to victim Virginia Giuffre's case against Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein's former girlfriend.
The lawsuit, filed in 2015, was settled in 2017. Maxwell has since been jailed for 20 years for helping Epstein abuse young girls. She is appealing against her conviction.
According to hundreds of pages of documents disclosed on Monday, Ms Ransome said in emails that she had seen sex tapes in Epstein's possession showing figures including Bill Clinton, Prince Andrew and Sir Richard Branson.
However, the New Yorker magazine reported in 2019 that Ms Ransome had admitted fabricating the claim.
But in an interview with ITV's Good Morning Britain on Tuesday, after the documents were released, Ms Ransome said she only walked back her claims because of threats to her family.
"There are videos that exist and the people that know they exist," she said. "I'm sure they are very frightened of them being released."
In one undated email from the released files included as evidence, Ms Ransome says: "When my friend had sexual intercourse with Clinton, Prince Andrew and Richard Branson, sex tapes were in fact filmed on each separate occasion by Jeffery [sic]."

Ms Ransome, who said Epstein abused her as an aspiring model and fashion student, also claims in one message that Donald Trump had sex with a friend of hers at Epstein's New York home.
The BBC has contacted the four men for comment - all of them have previously denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein.
The BBC has also reached out to Ms Ransome for comment.
No evidence of the tapes, which Ms Ransome claimed in the emails that her friend possessed and she had copied, has ever emerged.
Referring to the New Yorker report, a spokesperson for Sir Richard's Virgin Group said on Monday: "We can confirm that Sarah Ransome's claims are baseless and unfounded."
Trump spokesman Steven Cheung also said Ms Ransome's claims about the former president were "baseless".
The court documents also include photographs provided by Ms Ransome to Ms Giuffre's lawyers that allegedly showed girls and young women on Epstein's private island in the Caribbean.
According to the documents, Ms Ransome withdrew her claim about the tapes in an email to a New York Post columnist, stating she was concerned it would "create pain for my family".
"I would like to retract everything I have said to you and walk away from this," Ms Ransome says in an email dated 23 October 2016.

Watch: The secret lives of Maxwell and Epstein
The emails are part of a court filing by a firm representing Epstein's former lawyer - Alan Dershowitz - meant to show that Ms Ransome "manifestly lacks credibility".
Ms Ransome had claimed she was forced to have sex with Mr Dershowitz, who denies the allegations and says he has never met her.
She received a settlement in 2018 after suing Epstein and Maxwell for an undisclosed amount.
She alleged she was recruited by Maxwell into his sex-trafficking ring in 2006 when she was 22 years old.
Ms Ransome was a witness in Ms Giuffre's case against Epstein and Maxwell and provided evidence of Maxwell's involvement.
Ms Giuffre made allegations of wrongdoing by Prince Andrew, but made no claim of wrongdoing by Mr Clinton, Mr Trump or Sir Richard.
Three other batches of long-sealed Epstein court files were released last week, but contained few details that weren't previously known.
Epstein pleaded guilty to soliciting prostitution from a minor in 2008 and took his own life in 2019 while awaiting trial over sex-trafficking charges.

Jeffrey Epstein files: Photos of young girls on private island emerge in latest doc dump
Jeffrey Epstein judge later ordered photos stricken from record after redaction error

New batch of Epstein documents released - and Hillary Clinton's name emerges
The latest release of Jeffrey Epstein files on Monday revealed photos that appear to show girls or young women on his private island in 2006 – as well as his longtime madam and accomplice who denied being present during that period.
The judge overseeing the case later ordered the file containing the images to be stricken from the public docket and re-filed without them. The images showed young women or girls at Epstein's island, Maxwell lounging about, Epstein, his friend and fellow suspected sex trafficker Jean-Luc Brunel and at least one of Epstein's accusers.
"The Clerk of the Court is directed to strike docket entry 1332-7 in the above-captioned case because it contains inadvertently disclosed images that should have been redacted," Judge Loretta Presak wrote in a Monday evening order. "Counsel shall re-file the stricken document as soon as is practicable."
The documents were previously sealed or redacted as part of a 2015 lawsuit between Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre and Ghislaine Maxwell, the disgraced financier's longtime girlfriend and madam who is now a convicted sex trafficker.
3RD BATCH INCLUDES ALLEGATIONS SEX TRAFFICKER TROLLED NIGHTCLUBS FOR UNDERAGE GIRLS
Giuffre's lawyers said the photos "unequivocally" establish Maxwell's presence on Epstein's island during a time where she testified under oath she was "hardly around." The photos were part of a filing about Epstein accuser Sarah Ransome, who was not part of the proceedings but laid out the inner workings of Epstein's "massage network" and testified that the victims referred to Maxwell as "Mamma bear."
"Ms. Ransome’s testimony proves that what little Defendant did say during her deposition was far from the truth," Giuffre's lawyers wrote.
Ransome also claimed that all of the girls who were taken to Epstein's private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Little St. James, were provided Victoria's Secret bikinis and nightwear by the host. Some of Ransome's deposition had already been made public in previous unsealed files, but with names redacted.
Maxwell's side claimed the accusers were lying about their allegations against her in the hopes that the lawsuit would provide them a "lottery ticket."
Other filings show lawyers for Alan Dershowitz, an intervenor in the case and former attorney for Epstein, attacked Ransome's credibility. After learning that Rasome's deposition would be unsealed, Dershowitz's lawyers asked the court to disclose a series of her emails that they argued show she "is not credible." In them, she made unsubstantiated claims about former President Bill Clinton and the billionaire Richard Branson.
In statements that were later retracted, she claimed Clinton, Branson and the British Prince Andrew, who settled a separate lawsuit with Giuffre in 2022, were all filmed having sex with her friend by Epstein himself.
"Sex tapes were in fact filmed on each separate occasion by Jeffery (sic)," she claimed.
"The Emails are a necessary antidote to Ms. Ransome’s deposition misstatements because they demonstrate she manifestly lacks credibility," Dershowitz's lawyers wrote. In addition to accusations against Clinton and Branson, the emails described Hillary Clinton as "that evil b----" and hurled more unsubstantiated sexual accusations at former President Donald Trump.
These baseless accusations have been fully retracted because they are simply false and have no merit.

None of them have been accused of wrongdoing in connection with Epstein's crimes.
In one of the emails to a news reporter, however, Ransome said she wanted to retract the allegations and "walk away from this."
"These baseless accusations have been fully retracted because they are simply false and have no merit," Trump spokesman Steven Cheung said Monday.
A spokesperson for Virgin Group, the holding company Branson founded, pointed to a 2019 New Yorker interview in which Ransome said she "invented" the claims about sex tapes but did not mention the British billionaire by name.
"We can confirm that Sarah Ransome’s claims are baseless and unfounded," the spokesperson said.

JEFFREY EPSTEIN NAME-DROPPED STEPHEN HAWKING; PHOTOS SHOW PHYSICIST ON SEX TRAFFICKER'S ISLAND
Maxwell and Giuffre reached a settlement in the case in 2017. The new filings show that afterward, Maxwell's lawyers sought a court order telling Giuffre's side to return confidential documents that had been turned over in the discovery process.
The term "massage" within Epstein's orbit was a code word for sex, according to Ransome, and the many girls he employed as masseuses were trafficking victims.
"That’s like a key word for sex," she said, according to a transcript of her deposition. "So as soon as you stop having sex with Jeffrey and his friends and his girls, you’re out, because otherwise there’s no reason for you to be associated with Jeffrey, because you’re just there to have sex with him…"
She also said she witnessed Epstein having sex with the model turned pilot Nadia Marcinkova on his plane in plain view.
Ransome, who in 2022 told the New York Post likened to time with Epstein to a "dungeon of sexual hell," claimed Maxwell would bully girls who did not comply with Epstein's sexual demands and that the traffickers broke their promise to pay for her college education at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.
U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska ordered the documents' unsealing in December but gave each of the John and Jane Does two weeks to appeal. Lawyers for Giuffre posted the first 191 unsealed files last week out of an estimated 240, and another 17 late Monday morning.
Giuffre's lawyers unsealed documents in batches of dozens at a time, beginning Wednesday.
Epstein had many high-profile connections, including former U.S. Presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, foreign prime ministers and Britain's Prince Andrew, as well as Hollywood stars, leading academics, people in the modeling and fashion industries and other public figures.
Some of the names were previously known through other means despite having been withheld from the public's eye in the lawsuit.
2ND BATCH OF DOCUMENTS UNSEALED IN GHISLAINE MAXWELL LAWSUIT
Many of the names belong to people who have not been accused of wrongdoing, including Clinton and Trump.
Some names will remain sealed for various reasons, including names of some of Epstein's underage victims and at least one person who the judge said had been falsely identified. The judge is also expected to decide on whether to release the identities of two Does in the lawsuit who have requested to remain unnamed.

In a separate criminal case, Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years behind bars for sex trafficking Epstein's victims.
She is appealing that conviction and has declined to comment on the document dump.
Epstein died in federal custody in 2019. A Justice Department investigation accused the U.S. Bureau of Prisons of negligence in allowing him to commit suicide behind bars, depriving "his numerous victims, many of whom were underage girls at the time of the alleged crimes, of their ability to seek justice through the criminal justice process."

Yahoo News UK: Here's what the Jeffrey Epstein documents say about Prince Andrew
Prince Andrew is back in the spotlight amid a release of court documents related to Jeffrey Epstein's sex trafficking ring.

A new round of documents from a lawsuit connected to the late billionaire financier Jeffrey Epstein were unsealed on Monday, adding to the hundreds of files released since last week.
The latest release of 17 documents are part of a 2015 civil claim by Virginia Giuffre against British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, who is already serving a 20-year jail sentence for aiding a sex-trafficking ring on behalf of Epstein. A US judge ordered hundreds of documents to be unsealed as part of Giuffre’s previously settled claim.
Several celebrities and politicians including Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, magician David Copperfield, Cameron Diaz and Bruce Willis were named in the filings, although some have denied associating with Epstein, and the naming of individuals does not indicate any wrongdoing.
Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, had already come under intense scrutiny in 2019 over his friendship with Epstein and visits to his private Caribbean island when the tycoon was charged with sex trafficking. Epstein was found dead in his Manhattan prison cell in August 2019 while awaiting trial. His death was ruled a suicide.
The duke, who strenuously denies any wrongdoing, was accused by Giuffre of sexually abusing her when she was 17 – a minor under US law – having been trafficked by Epstein. In March 2022 Andrew paid an undisclosed out-of-court settlement to his accuser, whom he claimed to have never met, while accepting no liability.
The scandal nonetheless forced Andrew to step down as a working royal, but now the further release of documents has thrust him back into the spotlight.
Among the latest claims to be made, according to a court document released on Monday, is that sex tapes were taken of the Duke of York, former US President Bill Clinton and billionaire businessman Sir Richard Branson.
In a statement to CNN following the release of the first tranche of documents, a spokesperson for Clinton said he had no knowledge of Epstein's crimes, adding that it has "been nearly 20 years since President Clinton last had contact with Epstein”.
Sarah Ransome, who gave a victim impact statement ahead of the sentencing of Maxwell appeared to write communications claiming the three were filmed by Epstein. In the document released on Monday, Ransome said her friend "eventually had the courage to speak out and went to the police in 2008 to report what had happened". She added: "Nothing was done and she was utterly humiliated by the police department where she went to report what had happened with Epstein, Clinton, Branson and Prince Andrew.”
However, evidence of the tapes was never provided, and on behalf of Branson, a Virgin Group spokeswoman said: “In a New Yorker report published in 2019, Ransome admitted that she had ‘invented’ the tapes. We can confirm that Sarah Ransome’s claims are baseless and unfounded.”
The extracts were flagged by a firm representing Epstein’s lawyer, Alan Dershowitz, to demonstrate Ransome “manifestly lacks credibility”. The New Yorker article, written by US journalist Connie Bruck, is a profile of Dershowitz and includes the sentence: "(Ransome told me that she had invented the tapes to draw attention to Epstein’s behavior, and to make him believe that she had 'evidence that would come out if he harmed me.')"
Despite failing to produce evidence of the tapes, Ransome told ITV's Good Morning Britain on Tuesday that "there are videos that exist". Appearing to double down on her claim, she told the show she is sure the people who know the alleged tapes exist “are very frightened of them being released”.
She continued: “It’s no secret that everything was recorded. Multiple victims have come forward confirming my account, along with others. I’ve also seen recordings in his office.”
Yahoo News has contacted Buckingham Palace and representatives of Bill Clinton for comment.
Bath-sex claim challenged
The newly released documents also include an extract challenging Giuffre's account of allegedly having a bath with Prince Andrew in Maxwell's London townhouse when she was 17.
Giuffre told BBC Panorama in 2019: "There was a bath and it started there and then led into the bedroom. It didn’t last very long, the whole entire procedure. It was disgusting. He wasn’t mean or anything but he got up and he said, ‘Thanks’, and walked out.”
However, an unsealed 2017 deposition by Maxwell's solicitor Philip Barden claims the bathtub was “too small for a man of Prince Andrew’s size to enjoy a bath in let alone sex”. (MG Note: "If the glove don't fit, you must acquit" defense...which was eventually disproved. The blood soaked glove shrank AND OJ was allegedly on meds or some condition that caused his hands to swell) He said Giuffre’s “story” alleging Andrew had sex with her “caused a feeding frenzy for the press”, and called on the media to “cease and desist” from continuing to publish, saying they faced “higher damages for ignoring my clear warning” if they continued.
Maxwell is also previously said to have argued the tub – reported to be a standard size 5ft 6in by 2ft 4in bath and boxed in on three sides by walls – was too small for sex.
'Andrew groped my breast at Manhattan party', alleged victim claims
The King’s brother was also accused by Johanna Sjoberg of groping her breast while posing with what is reported to have been a puppet of himself in Epstein’s Manhattan home in 2001.
Sjoberg says she met Andrew when she was brought to Epstein's New York home in 2001 by Maxwell, while Giuffre was also visiting. Sjoberg said she didn't know who the duke was at first until Maxwell fetched a caricature puppet of him from the BBC comedy show Spitting Image.
She claims she then sat on Andrew's lap, with Giuffre sat beside him on the couch with the puppet in her own lap, CBS reports. The group are then alleged to have taken a photo together, with the Andrew puppet used to grope Giuffre's breast, and Andrew himself groping Sjoberg's.
Questioned over whether Sjoberg and Giuffre were in the presence of the duke with the puppet, Maxwell said: “I don’t recollect the story as told by Johanna or Virginia. I don’t even know who – I remember the caricature of Prince Andrew and I remember Prince Andrew but I don’t recall anything else around the caricature.”
She insisted that neither she nor billionaire sex offender Epstein gave the duke the puppet as a gift but said Andrew did not bring it with him, confirming there was a “caricature of Prince Andrew that was in Jeffrey’s home”.
Despite Prince Andrew continually denying wrongdoing, his reputation is unlikely to recover from the Epstein scandal.
He had already become the subject of much public ridicule after his disastrous Newsnight interview in which he claimed he had an overdose of adrenaline in the Falklands War left him with a medical condition which meant he "couldn't sweat" - thus disproving Giuffre's account of his sweaty dancing in a London nightclub.
As the story became more and more of an embarrassment to the Royal Family, he was cast out of the working monarchy, stripped of his royal patronages and no longer uses his HRH title. According to reports the King is preparing to withdraw private funding for the security operation at the duke's home.
Buckingham Palace declined to comment, but The Telegraph said Andrew will have to fund the multi-million-pound security costs at Royal Lodge himself if he wants to stay in the 30-room mansion in Windsor Great Park. The move will be seen as the monarch distancing himself publicly from his younger brother.
As more claims come to light amid the current release of documents, the Metropolitan Police has said it will assess any “new and relevant” information from the documents when it is brought to officers’ attention. However, despite anti-monarchy group Republic reporting allegations made against the royal, the force has said it is not currently investigating claims against the Duke of York in the latest court filings.

Jeffrey Epstein list: Newly unsealed documents name Sarah Ferguson, Chris Tucker and Kevin Spacey
Ghislaine Maxwell, Prince Andrew, Sarah Ferguson, magician David Copperfield, Donald Trump, Stephen Hawking and Bill Clinton have all been named in the documents so far
Independent.co Andrea Blanco, Rachel Sharp. Mike Bedigan, Vishwam Sankaran, Tom Watling
Which big names are on Epstein’s list?
Comedian Chris Tucker, actor Kevin Spacey and Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, were mentioned in a tranche of documents relating to pedophile Jeffrey Epstein that have been unsealed.
Four new documents containing information about Epstein were released on Friday after US judge Loretta Preska ordered the unsealing of filings in a lawsuit brought by Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre against Ghislaine Maxwell.
Maxwell – who is in federal prison for sex-trafficking – was sued in 2015 after she branded Ms Giuffre a liar over her claims that she was sexually abused as a minor. The suit was settled in 2017 but the documents remained sealed – until now.
The first batch of forty court documents was released on Wednesday, naming Donald Trump and Mr Clinton, Prince Andrew and magician David Copperfield. The naming of individuals does not necessarily indicate any wrongdoing.
Actor Kevin Spacey and comedian Chris Tucker are mentioned as potential passengers during a ride on Epstein’s private jet.
Maxwell said she did not remember the exact dates of the trips.
Former Epstein’s housekeeper Juan Alessi also testified in a deposition that Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York reportedly visited Epstein’s New York mansion with her then-husband.
KEY POINTS
Johana Sjoberg claimed that she was once on a private plane with Epstein when it made an unexpected stop in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She said that Epstein mentioned: “Great, we’ll call Trump.” She mentioned that Epstein suggested that they visit Mr Trump’s casino.
Elsewhere, Ms Sjoberg was asked if she ever gave Mr Trump a massage, to which she replied “no”.
In 2019, when asked about his relationship with Epstein following the financier’s arrest, Mr Trump said he “knew him like everybody in Palm Beach knew him”. But the former president added: “I had a falling out with him. I haven’t spoken to him in 15 years. I was not a fan of his, that I can tell you.”
Can Prince Andrew face prosecution over Jeffrey Epstein documents?
Prince Andrew’s royal status would not protect him from criminal prosecution in the US over his links to Jeffrey Epstein, a leading lawyer has warned – but it is unlikely he would ever be extradited.
Top criminal defence lawyer Duncan Levin, who previously served as an assistant US attorney, said there is “nothing barring” the federal government from arresting Andrew, the Duke of York, if he sets foot on US soil after sexual assault allegations resurfaced in court documents.
While an arrest of that “magnitude” would require sign off from the highest levels of the Department of Justice, recent cases against former US President Donald Trump show that no-one is above the law, Mr Levin said.
Epstein invoked 5th Amendment right to silence 600 times - court filings
The late financier Jeffrey Epstein invoked his constitutional right against incriminating himself about 600 times in testimony for a lawsuit brought by Virginia Giuffre, who accused him of sexual abuse.
Epstein‘s refusal to answer questions in Giuffre’s lawsuit against his longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell was disclosed in a filing on Friday in Manhattan federal court, as part of a trove of documents being unsealed this month from the civil defamation case, which settled in 2017.
The Fifth Amendment of the US Constitution gives people the right not to incriminate themselves.
In the September 2016 filing, Ms Giuffre’s lawyers said Epstein routinely answered “Fifth” in a deposition that month to about 500 substantive questions they posed, and 100 substantive questions that Maxwell’s lawyers posed.
Ms Giuffre’s lawyers said Epstein‘s refusal to answer extended to questions that posed no real risk of incriminating him, including whether he knew Maxwell, had in 2008 pleaded guilty in open court to a prostitution charge and was healthy enough to testify.
The questions also included at least three about Epstein‘s relationship with former US President Bill Clinton.
Lawyers for Epstein said in a subsequent filing, also released on Friday, that their client would have invoked the Fifth Amendment if called upon to testify at trial.
They cited among other reasons the “burdens” he would face, and the expected “media circus generated by Mr. Epstein‘s personal appearance.”
Epstein killed himself in a Manhattan jail cell in August 2019 at age 66 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

Jeffrey Epstein list: What we know about the documents and what to expect next

Dozens of previously sealed court documents related to Jeffrey Epstein were made public late Wednesday, as a court releases more records from a years-old lawsuit connected to the late financier.
They’re likely to disappoint sleuths online, where the plan to release documents prompted rumors of a list of “clients” or “co-conspirators.” In fact, the judge who made the call wrote in December that she was ordering the records released because much of the information within them is already public.
The first 40 documents, of around 250 expected to eventually be unsealed, largely mention figures whose names were already known, including high-profile friends of Epstein’s and victims who have spoken publicly.
Ahead of the documents’ release, misinformation about their contents ran rampant on social media. Users wrongly claimed that late-night host Jimmy Kimmel’s name might appear, spurred by a joke New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers made Tuesday on ESPN’s “The Pat McAfee Show.”
Kimmel said in a response on X that he had never met Epstein and that Rodgers’ “reckless words put my family in danger.”
Here’s what we know about the documents released so far:
WHO IS JEFFREY EPSTEIN?
A millionaire known for associating with celebrities, politicians, billionaires and academic stars, Epstein was initially arrested in Palm Beach, Florida, in 2005 after he was accused of paying a 14-year-old girl for sex.
Dozens of other underage girls described similar sexual abuse, but prosecutors ultimately allowed the financier to plead guilty in 2008 to a charge involving a single victim. He served 13 months in a jail work-release program.
Some famous acquaintances abandoned Epstein after his conviction, including former presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, but many did not. Epstein continued to mingle with the rich and famous for another decade, often through philanthropic work.
Reporting by the Miami Herald renewed interest in the scandal, and federal prosecutors in New York charged Epstein in 2019 with sex trafficking. He killed himself in jail while awaiting trial.
The U.S. attorney in Manhattan then prosecuted Epstein’s former girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, for helping recruit his underage victims. She was convicted in 2021 and is serving a 20-year prison term.
WHAT ARE THESE RECORDS ABOUT?
The documents being unsealed are part of a 2015 lawsuit filed against Maxwell by one of Epstein’s victims, Virginia Giuffre. She is one of the dozens of women who sued Epstein saying he had abused them at his homes in Florida, New York, the U.S. Virgin Islands and New Mexico.
Giuffre said the summer she turned 17, she was lured away from a job as a spa attendant at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club to become a “masseuse” for Epstein — a job that involved performing sexual acts.
Giuffre also claimed she was pressured into having sex with men in Epstein’s social orbit, including Britain’s Prince Andrew, the former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, former U.S. Sen. George Mitchell and the billionaire Glenn Dubin, among others. All of those men said her accounts were fabricated.
Giuffre settled a lawsuit against Prince Andrew in 2022. That same year, Giuffre withdrew an accusation she had made against Epstein’s former attorney, the law professor Alan Dershowitz, saying she “ may have made a mistake ” in identifying him as an abuser.
Giuffre’s lawsuit against Maxwell was settled in 2017, but the Miami Herald went to court to access court papers initially filed under seal, including transcripts of interviews the lawyers did with potential witnesses.
About 2,000 pages were unsealed by a court in 2019. Additional documents were released in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
The batch currently being released contains around 250 records that sections that were blacked out or were sealed entirely because of concerns about the privacy rights of Epstein’s victims and other people whose names had come up during the legal battle but weren’t complicit in his crimes.
Only around 40 of those documents were made public Wednesday. More will be released in the coming days.
WHAT CAN WE EXPECT TO SEE?
U.S. District Judge Loretta A. Preska, who evaluated the documents to decide what should be unsealed, said in her December order that she was ordering the records released because much of the information within them is already public.
Some records have been released, either in part or in full, in other court cases.
The people named in the records include many of Epstein’s accusers, members of his staff who told their stories to tabloid newspapers, people who served as witnesses at Maxwell’s trial, people who were mentioned in passing during depositions but aren’t accused of anything salacious, and people who investigated Epstein, including prosecutors, a journalist and a police detective.
There are also boldface names of public figures known to have associated with Epstein over the years, but whose relationships with him have already been well documented elsewhere, the judge said.
One of them is Jean-Luc Brunel, a French modeling agent close to Epstein who was awaiting trial on charges that he raped underage girls when he killed himself in a Paris jail in 2022. Giuffre was among the women who had accused Brunel of sexual abuse.
His name was peppered throughout the documents released Wednesday.
Clinton and Trump both factor in the court file, partly because Giuffre was questioned by Maxwell’s lawyers about inaccuracies in newspaper stories about her time with Epstein. One story quoted her as saying she had ridden in a helicopter with Clinton and flirted with Trump. Giuffre said neither of those things actually happened. She hasn’t accused either former president of wrongdoing.
The judge said a handful of names should remain blacked out in the documents because they would identify people who were sexually abused. The Associated Press does not typically identify people who say they are victims of sexual assault unless they decide to tell their stories publicly, as Giuffre has done.
WHEN WILL THE REST OF THE DOCUMENTS BE MADE PUBLIC?
The judge hasn’t set a target for when all of the documents should be made public, but more documents are expected to come in the next few days.
