Genius Brands falls despite reporting record revenue growth for Q2

Genius Brands (GNUS) shares plunges 8% despite Q2 achieved revenue growth of 843% to a record $21.2M, compared to the same period last year.
The revenue increase reflects the inclusion of WOW!, which was acquired by Genius Brands in April 2022, and Ameba, which was acquired in January of 2022.
The Co. also signed 20-year deal with Marvel and the Walt Disney Company to use Stan Lee in their feature films and television; expected to generate recurring revenue from Walt Disney merchandising in Disney theme parks over the next 20 years.

As of June 30, 2022, Cash, equivalents and restricted cash decreased by $2.2M, the decrease was primarily due to cash used in investment activities, inclusive of the Wow and Ameba acquisitions and the YFE investments, of $41.2M, $17.7M used for operational activities.

“We continue to make decisions to grow our asset base and reach sustainable and growing profitability. Our global channel system for kids is now experiencing both subscriber growth, as well as advertiser growth, while creating synergies and economies of scale. It explains their charge against the Chizicks of insider trading; Harold sold GNUS shares while he knew that GNUS was about to purchase companies. It explains the effects on the deals and on GNUS shareholders.

Thanks for the note, I'm going to look at the financials for q1 later. Even though they have over 150 million cash they have other assets too. This thing is funded and about to generate much higher revenues with the big boys.

I am showing 151 million in cash as of 3/31/2022. ~50 million in cash and cash equivs as well as ~100 million in ST investments.

Total current liabilities are $69 million and total liabilities are $77 million.

I was lucky enough to have shares when the 2020 spike happened. Sold on that day. Just bought back in at the end of last year and a little more today. Hoping lightening strikes again. The 2020 spike was a pretty good juice for the year.

And the market cap is just over $300M with a new 20 year agreement with Disney.. this should be over $1B in market cap soon after more details around that deal and the $125M of backlog deals is released. These #s will be huge... Hold imo..

Ok I need to look at Q1 more closely. If they have 58M of new debt since the end of 2021 then they recd 58M of cash. It was unspent. Prior to that they had over 130M cash and no debt. Most of the 130M is in govt backed treasuries. They will likely pay the 58M off with the 130M in investments and capitalize the new investment in Wow. They would still be funded with over 100M in excess cash today either way..

Except when it trades over 100 million shares a day. It was doing that back in 2020, with a lot of the year with trading over 30 million shares a day. It even had a day late last year at over 100 million shares traded.

But, my point was, institutions can cover their shorts, if they are the ones shorting.

The 10Q for Q1 showed a margin loan of almost $58 million. That seems like significant debt to me.

30 to 40 million shares short out of over 300 million shares outstanding. It's like a firecracker. Institutions still have warrants outstanding for well over 40 million shares (about $2.4+ conversion price) and 40 to 60 million shares. If they are the ones shorting, they can cover with little problem.
