Official now... GXYF is now the lowest PE on yahoo
http://www.geocities.com/syte.storage/foodstocks.htm
updated all the food sorts in the box..
Updated my GXYF movie....
was in a good mood this morning.. go Colts...
Hi Giff, not sure how it is made, some by product which used to be thrown out in the old days most likely. lol
Yes Broll was straightforward, to his credit, he put the shareholders immediate interests in front of the temporary SP situation.
I agree take good management when you can find it, since it is a rare commodity in many stocks.
Well.. I'm thinking Mr. Broll is one heck of a person.... I stay with a good manager anytime..
Wonder how many BB CEO's would have given that guidance.. Yes it hurt... and most would have taken the lumps at the next CC.. I'm sure pps would be above $.50's... and all those folks would have been some upset...
but you think of his forward thinking to buy that Casein so we had that good 2nd Q..
I say opportunity for some Dairy here in US is to make this Casein... TreeHouse Foods also buys this additive... how the heck is it made anyway? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casein
I'm holding.. maybe flip a few here and there...
Hi Giff: some interesting dynamics going on:
1. The USD is costing them to buy Casein
2. Casein in shorter supply until Spring
3. Gxyf cutting costs where possible
4. Gxyf looking for alternatives
5. GXYF new products less related to Casein hence less affected
6. If the Fed strengthens the dollar then Galaxy should benefit
7. If they sign a long term Casein contract then they maybe stuck with an artificially higher price
8. Wonder if there is a spot market like most raw stock has?
Think your right it is now a longer term holding till this plays out
Marsh sells veggie
$3.99
We'll see what price is in about 90 days....
gonna try and hang tough here... ready for next predict but gonna wait for next months price index data...
Use your post as bases.... ]and...
Kroger Indy was $2.99
Mejier Indy was $3.49
The price elasticity of cheese
So I am wandering around looking at cheese. Prices for Galaxy cheese vary from 2.99 to 3.99. Wal Mart is at $3.34. HyVee Milan is $2.99. HyVee Bettendorf is $3.99. (seems like there is an experiment going on here) I find myself reluctant to pay $3.99 for a 12 pack of cheese, though $3.34 is ok, & bought Walmart (sorry giff) Jalepeno Cheddar slices yesterday. Shreds were $3.84.
While I could go to Aldi's & buy Swiss slices for $1.99, they have 100 calories per slice & are terrible for the arteries. Additionally there are those oil based 99 cent packs which are even worse.
Most cheese is 2-4, but in so far as regular cheese it is all about the same. Where as in the healthy cheese market the variance of tastes crappy to tastes good is of more importance. Those swiss Tofutti slices are only properly suited for dog treats.
IMO the price of healthy cheese is much more elastic as compared to the price of regular cheese. When given the alternatives, once you find a brand that is to your liking the central tendency to stick to that particular brand is much more probable than regular cheese.
Given this, now the question needed to be answered is what is the breakdown of the commodity costs in producing the cheese & how much casein & other commodities is needed per pack as compared to other competitors?
It would seem to me that Galaxy products would be better hedged against the rise in milk commodity prices than say Kraft in the sense that less milk product would be used. Though I know nothing about the production costs of cheese, & Kraft is hedged via the diversification of the product line. Though the rise in all commodities, especially soy, is of concern.
http://futures.tradingcharts.com/chart/SB/W
Anyways...
Guess the reason I stopped by Walmart was to see if I could find some blocks of Chipotle or Cheddar.
I find the gift of healthy cheese to be a viable christmas giving add on to any gift especially wine. Postal carriers are ideal cantidates for wine, cheese & $20 christmas tip bribes to get better service. Additionally cheese is a fine thing to take to Thanksgiving & other gatherings.
And on product suggestions....
Was thinking that cheese & meat go well together. There have been no organic low cal summer sausage or salami rolls found on any food gathering venture. All alternatives seem to have unhealthy consequences. Crackers also are generally unhealthy.
Best to sell your shares now, take the tax loss, & raise cash. The dollar is trashy, housing is wacked, commodities high, financial organizations sketchy.
I think .22 is a better base. Enough of this .26-.27 already. So what if food stocks seem to be a decent defensive sector.
Though I picked up a scant few at .25. Any chance a guy could get some teens to speculate with?
The recent CC is on the web site.
http://www.galaxyfoods.com/investors/transcripts.asp
otcbargains.. Thanks for some picks... I'll take a peek at them...
Vinatieri has missed a few lately.. he miss one he should have made against NE...
picked up some more 20's here... one way or another, I'm gonna sell at a profit here.. LOL..
advisor says I'm hard headed...
That was one strange game. I bet vinatari makes that 9999 out of 10,000 times.
Are you finding anything oyu like in this sea of earnigns annc's?
I have picked up some
ASDS
FFLT
ASFG
PHCO
PLGC
ACLO
and UAMA in recent days.
I feel exactly like I did Sunday night...
when the colts lost to da chargers on that missed field goal...
I guess I'm real long now...
Gonna have to revise my movie too!
Giff I agree 100% they are being straight forward, they seem on top of things well enough to know that it would not pay to be otherwise when you are turning this boat around.
It is more important to know:
1. the duration of the contracts
2. what % of over all raw materials on the major products sold is represented? 5,10,25% what.
I also like the search for an alternative, which I believe is a very smart thing to do. Plan A or Plan B and not be held hostage to just one.
but they have given guidance before... for example... 1Q report...
"With a recent launch of new products, we hope to see some moderate growth in top line sales beginning in the second half of the current fiscal year,' concluded Broll."
One can be pissed, but I don't blame the company for not saying anything in the PR, given 1.5 hours later they make the point very clearly in opening statements. The company thinking is long term... not 1.5 hour trader.
I still like the company and the direction. Like I said in the cc, I trust them. I still think history will repeat at some point.
Giff no I fully understand his feeling, I just would not expect to see that type of info in an earnings PR release, imo it is just something in the guidance section of a 10Q.
Obviously it caught most outsiders by surprise. The very recent pre-earnings sell on volume, and the sell into rally were likely both caused by the same information, folks on the inside know that stuff before retail does ordinarily.
Is there a that weekly casein price for wholesale and put it in the ibox to follow, since it seems pretty key to the SP? Or do you have a link we can just monitor with that info?
The current management of Galaxy has done a great job. This management and board have put major discipline in the company. The company is faced with the same problem as all the other food companies, higher raw commodity prices. This additive is imported from Europe so the devaluation of the dollar also has an effect on price. The additive has some seasonality based on milk production.
In the call, they believe because of the price elasticity of the product, the will not be able to pass on the total price increase. So, they have a plan in place to stay as profitable as possible.
- They are going to raise some prices, depends on region, customer etc
- They are going to cut some planned marketing programs (what will that do to revs?)
- They are going to try and reformulate and looking at promising alternative
I think I heard this, but not real clear. If you compare this past Q and did nothing to improve COGS, 3rd Q would only make 2-300K net income. The 4 quarter would be a break even.
IMO..The bottom line is this… They have shown us that they can make a profit, well managed and a plan to grow the company. Good people have a way of figuring out how to make money. They are good people and although I hated to hear this news, better hear it now the after the 3Q is over.
Having said that... If this management would have not said anything, I think we'd gone to $.60-$.80 by Feb..
I can understand Mike's thinking..
It was a great report and the thinking is going forward, all is good.. so you try and beat the crowd... Then wham... the guidance is bad...and we all get pissed when losing money...
Giff: imo I think the earnings PR was normal, and the raw stock increases would be normally included the guidance part of a 10Q, or 10K. Honestly I did not expect it included in an earnings PR, but definitely in a 10Q or 10K or a CC.
Regardless of that, since at this point it is academic, you have tracked that raw material before, is it possible to do a raw material cost chart and have it be real time and put it in the Ibox That would foreshadow somethings.
I tend to agree with Mike. The company certainly didnt lie but the earnings pr was somewhat misleading by omission.
Giff: imo if dairy raws go up they should be passed same as other raw costs are in other industries. Is Gxyf saying they will break-even because they can not raise prices? If so they should check what milk has done in the last year they do not absorb gas or lack of subsidy costs.
Most all marketed products have to pass along the cost increases and it is always relative specifically to their competition.
Don't we all wish Xon did not pass the oil costs along, for gas and fuel oil increases, or the food industry when it passed on the additional freight costs due to the gas prices.
I guess I am at a loss as to why GXYF is so different, assuming its competition all use the same raw materials. Granted it is organic, but it should still be relative to the competition.
What is your take?
and good post.. Food prices gotta go up with all these increases... and the food sector has not been good lately.
And I asked your Question.... Institutional is dead...
Anyway.. I saw Mike's post was not happy with PR.. And fully understand.. they should have said something about dairy raws are going to be higher...

Bear Calendar Spread?
I agree... gonna look at it again after the Q report.
I have a spread on this additive
That leaves the 3rd q in question.
I suspect they expect a profit in the 3rd and then breakeven in 4th unless they can raise prices without losing volume.
This could hold pps down for quite a while but when I look at annual comps; this year will still show a huge improvement over last year which was a huge improvement over the previous year. While this improvement in profit has been going on pps has been dropping.
It would appear that eps for the year will likely come in at .05 to .06 range. (depending on 3rd q). Stock still looks undervalued but with guidance being what it is for the 4th q we may never see a decent valuation.
They said Break even in 4th Q... if they doing nothing about it...
They are looking at some price increases and raw changes....
That explains the selloff.
How bad?
Well... with good comes the bad LOL....
- Casien Raw material price increases are gonna hit them. A contract had kept that price low... now $6/lb. They import this additive and the exchange rate has an effect. The company is doing some stuff to counter but guidance was not good. Break even in the 4th Q. They think if they raise price volume will drop base on what they know.
- Hummus was not significate to even separate out.
- Reason for the shortfall payment was a way for the supplier to lock Galaxy
Just got off the call and not great f guidance.
I was watching yesterday as the pps plunged. Unfortunately i didnt have the fortitude to buy. In today with a small starter position. 12500 shares.
Got 1850 of them yesterday at .29.
So nice when you get filled at the bid. They weren't having the 1900 at .28 bid, so raised it a penny & it filled with a quickness.
Keep an open order down there at .29 it is a nice base, the old one is .25
Wall you sound like a good customer. lol
Did you get some 20's?
Giff did.
Sure wish I could get a Subway sandwich w/ some veggie provalone & swiss on low cal bread.
Didn't really like that Vegan american soy slice though.
Solid fundamental report w/ good revenue management.
Guess there will be no more 29 cent shares today.
Think I will go buy some more cheese & hummus then make some burritos.
Giff you likely have that type selling most times. I wish all buyers had merely sat on the bid, and let the ask come to it. That way you get through all the sellers and create the best base with less volatility.
I hope those who bought today aren't going for a momo with hype, since this company as most here know ain't much on either one lol.
In 12-18 months this should continue to get much more solid fundamentally, with it sales increases and solid expense controls.
Plus having the founder of Subway never hurts. lol
GXYF had a very nice report this morning. I added a bunch of shares.
Mike
Giff: This is very nice: 2007 vs 2006
Sales are starting to climb as they projected and the net income is increasing greatly also. At this rate they could surpass 06 sales in calendar 08 and show an enormous net income gain at the same time! Now that is a very nice goal!

Operating expenses during the first half of FY2008 included a previously disclosed non-recurring employment contract expense of $346,447. Exclusive of this charge, the Company would have reported net income of $1,157,787 in the six months ended September 30, 2007. In the six months ended September 30, 2006 the Company reported a net loss of ($780,865), or ($0.04) per diluted share, on net sales of approximately $14.6 million.

Seemed more like a take out all of the available shares & pop one small block on the end for fun trade.
Cut back on the Wal Mart shopping as suggested & Did some HyVee research.
Milan, IL & Moline, IL have 4 types of slices, 3 Shreds, Parm Style topping, & 4 types of hummus.
Picked up some Chipotle style hummus at 2/$5 & it goes well in burritos.
Been eating the Smoked Provalone & Swiss they make for good sandwiches.
Unfortunately Clinton, IA HyVee only had Veggie American slices & haven't opened that up yet.
Question for the meeting might be something on the order of How is the foodservice industry division doing?
