Lots of the old 40's and 50's flathead "...ghetto-cruisers.." had superchargers.
My Dad had a Hudson Commodore Straight-8 2-door for a second car when I was about 12/13. The Hudson was normally aspirated, but that straight-8 engine looked like it belonged in a PT boat or something; just gobs or torque from the get-go and it would cruise 100+ all day long without breaking a sweat. Das said the Hudson was the first car ever made that he had to "..step down.." to get into. Sort of a precursor to the '49 Merc's.
The supercharger on Rick's Kaiser was stock from the factory, and had it's own shieve in the crank pulley assembly - driving a belt that was about an inch wide and 3/4" thick.
The Kaiser was absolutely amazing; oodles and oodles of power - with no appreciable noise from under the hhod - compared to a big honking V8. We went out on I-95 after we installed the belt, and passed a guy in a Caddy Fleetwood Brougham so quickly I think he about broke his neck by swivelling to keep up.
Some of those old rides were righteous, Mang...!!!

Man I haven't heard the name Kaiser in a long time. Was it the one that looked a little bit like a cross between the 49-54 Ford and the Studebaker (not sure of time frame on Stud's)? I was not aware they had Superchargers on them. Was it factory or was it after-market? The start of the Muscle Car! LOL

I can remember going to a drive-in once in a KAISER 4-door (..you needed a telephone to talk to the people in the front seat..) when my buddy had wrecked his 'Vette and bought the "..classic.." to get to work temporarily.
When he got it, it smoked and belched like a locomotive, until I dug around in the trunk and found a belt for the Paxton supercharger...!!
After that, 110 on the Freeway was a snap - and smoke free...!!
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw.........!!!
