Yea, that about covers it. And did Dan the man make anything off that deal? And are you in the in? By "in" I am talking about the top secret Yahoo group.
Cuda426 - Thanks...but...we already knew that...
Gannon's group to buy DNAPrint's IP assets from Dutchess has been discussed a number of times.
Nothing new there. Doesn't change the facts...just confirms them...
To help clarify the discussion - Here's what we know and can prove...
1) DNAPrint is a dead company.- PR - DNAPrint Genomics Closed Business 2/2009.
2) Dan the Man Gannon was centrally involved in what happened to DNAPrint Genomics and to DNAG shareholders:
A) Dan the Man bought millions of DNAG shares to become a majority DNAG shareholder to get some control of DNAPrint Genomics.
B) Dan the Man started an investor group to buy DNAPrint's IP assets from Dutchess Capital to save DNAPrint Genomics.
C) Dan the Man was on DNAPrint's board when they gave away ALL of DNAPrint IP assets to DDC... and screwed DNAG shareholders.
D) DDC ended up with all of DNAPrint's IP assets in an "exclusive worldwide license" that shut out DNAG shareholders.
http://www.prweb.com/releases/dna/ancestry/prweb3201574.htm
E) DNAPrint is now dead and has absolutely no IP assets. DNAG is a toxic ghost shell with nothing but debt.
All this is clearly documented in PR's, SEC filings, and iHub posts.
Now...please tell us what we don't know...
Dan the man started his own group
Yall don't know much about this stock do you?
I agree 110%. If we all sell our worthless shares for a loss M.M will take over and Go next level without us...
If we are only a shell company ,that I personally don't think we are because there must be some value somewhere and that is why the M.M are after this post
Why are we still trading with occasional big volume???
Why M.M want to buy all the shares they can get at 0.0002 or 0.0001???
Why are people telling us that the best solution is to sell our shares and walk away???
WHY Is the Question...
GOOD luck to all Longs...
Keeping DNAG alive is the answer. You can sell your stock and take the write off, the MMs are lined up to buy at .0001.
I'll even buy some more. Cant stop the stock, then we are dead for sure. As long as it is still breathing, we have a chance.
We need to organize a take over, determine best direction and select our new officers.
Hold The DNAG Board Of Directors Legally Accountable
Maps...
As a long time DNAG investor....I actually wish there were substantiated facts to back up the "something more than feelings' that you mentioned...
And while I do understand that the "mysterious volume surges" can be considered a "fact"...it's impossible to know who or why this dead company is still trading at all...given the absolute proof of DNAPrint's demise.
Nor is it advisable for anyone to base their trading strategy on unknown volume surges with a dead company...without proof of cause of the unexplained volume. Very risky strategy.
FWIW...I am one of the longest long time DNAPrint investors who has seen it all from the start to it's finish...and as a long time investor I am also left with millions of DNAG shares like many longs here.... I do wish there were "new facts" to be hopeful about...but I'm not aware of any.
I am here back on iHub for a few specific reasons...
1) Find a way to get rid of this worthless DNAG stock so I can write it off as a tax loss. At least it has some value as a tax write off.
I have two tax write off options that I know of:
a) I could keep my mouth shut and sell my millions of shares into the mysterious volume surges...and then feel really really bad that someone bought this POS stock I'm selling. I know it's their responsibility to do the proper DD...but it's my integrity that I won't sell worthless garbage to an unsuspecting fool...so my selling into any volume surge is out.
b) ETrade told me I can't write off DNAG stock while it's still trading on the OTC. So I need to find a way to stop this DNAG stock from trading on the OTC. Selling the shell is one way. Does anyone know of other ways?
2) Find out who is legally responsible for DNAPrint's demise and expose their complete give away of all of DNAPrint's IP assets that crushed DNAG shareholders. Most all of this is SEC reportable events and should be public record...and DNAG shareholders have a legal right to ask and find out what happened.
3) Find out how can we DNAG shareholders hold the board of directors accountable...legally and financially. I want to find out if there are enough angry pissed off DNAG longs who actually will consider getting our own DNAG attorney to get the real answers to what happened and hold them accountable.
4) Find out if there is actually any value for shareholders to:
a) Consider legal action against the board to recover millions of lost potential revenues in the growing billion dollar Ancestry and Forensics markets.
b) Consider re-organizing DNAPrint Genomics and rebuilding the business (with big debts and no IP assets and depends on 4a).
c) Explore selling the DNAG shell (it may be a toxic shell buy someone might be desperate enough to buy it to get on the OTC).
d) Explore any other options or strategies that either increase the stock value with a plan...or stop it trading completely.
BTW...a poster earlier mentioned that getting an attorney to work on contingency may be difficult. That may be so...but the first attorney consultations are sometimes free or low cost.
Enough angry longs could easily afford a few attorney sessions to get the legal answers to see if there is any value in continuing with the legal action or to see other options we shareholders may have.
In the meantime...it's surprising to see just how close some people are to guessing the key players in DNAPrint's demise. Maps you are one of them as you earlier asked about Dan Gannon.
The board of directors at the time were Gomez, Gabriel, and Dan Gannon, the majority DNAG shareholder who was appointed on the board of directors who then gave away all our IP assets...
Dan Gannon was on the board and he knows all the inside events...and he has freely and openly posted his contact information here on iHub...
So if you "longs" have millions of DNAG shares and are pissed off enough to start asking questions to get answers...start with Dan Gannon..
Ask Dan Gannon what happened and why he and the board crushed DNAPrint Genomics with the board's give away of the IP assets to DDC with a worldwide exclusive license of DNAPrint's IP assets...leaving us DNAG shareholders nothing...instead of saving DNAPrint Genomics like Dan Gannon promised when he was soliciting money here on iHub.
The board's actions, the DDC license, and the board's resignations are all "SEC material events" and should have been legally reported to all the DNAG shareholders...so DNAG shareholders can feel free to ask Dan Gannon anything...and hold him accountable for what he and the board did to DNAPrint Genomics and us investors.
I will be fascinated to see how many "longs" actually ask questions to Dan Gannon to get answers...maybe even demand some accountability and retribution for their losses.
And I will be curious to see if Dan Gannon as our ex-board member and majority DNAG shareholder has enough courage and integrity to answer your questions about his part in DNAPrint's demise...
Good luck to all of us longs,
Robert
cantwate this is more than a feeling anyway, But at this point I rather wait for the post to close and then when I think is convenient I will write it off.
Thank You for your feed back, is always good to see people still reading this board.
GO DNAG
You need to check your "feeling" radar. I don't think it's working.
Take your tax write off and move on. This is a dead company.
Me too, been holding for many years...
I personally own a lot of shares at a higher PPS...
I have a feeling that something is going on under the radar and believe me I hope so because I have a lot of money invested here...
Good Luck to Longs
I've got to buy some more!!!
Its worth a shot, been waiting for years anyway.
Another 8million shares today!!!
But again no one knows anything...
GO DNAG
THIS AS BAD AS OR WORST THAN ( BLLB ) HOW MANY STUCK IN THAT
DNAG looks like .0003s getting ready to leave the building...
They are just buying a few shares here and there hoping someone will buy the shell
They r/s and left me with 9000 shares years ago this is a pinkie stinkie at its best dont buy this piece of shittttttttttttttttt
maps, there have been a couple of posters who have explained why the company is dead and that the assets are gone. People can choose to believe or not. There is nothing to validate that there is anything of substance unless you believe that buying stock in a dead company is validation. Cosmiclifeform has described some options that are available to seek retribution but I guess people would rather continue to buy worthless stock than to believe the truth.
Nothing is going on, right???
Over 76million shares traded in the last nine trading days...
But again no one knows anything...
Go DNAG
FYI - I'm a longtime holder.
Since we've already lost money, can we do something for free?
If they have committed a crime, supposedly, then can't we get the SEC to bring charges? It kind of gets me that things always have to be big to get help. A tornado destroys one house and those people are kind of stuck. If it devastates thousands, everyone rushes to help them.
So the SEC will go after the big issues. Isn't there some service there where a small group of possibly defrauded investors can get some help as well?
Perhaps if we put together the strongest case for which we have irrefutable evidence, and perhaps we read and copy cases already on file to educate ourselves, we can bring this to the SEC and let them do it. I think retaining a lawyer will be tough unless we can show that lawyer there's some money to be had. This might be too long of a long shot to attract any decent lawyers and then of course, 1/3 will go to them anyway. But maybe we should see how far we can get just with our own skillset first. Then perhaps take it around to get some free feedback from some lawyers on their opinion of the viability of the case.
I don't know anything about this other than what I have read from others. I have no idea how some of you have this detailed info about Gannon, et al.
I say we see how far we can get with just our own time used and no expenditures yet. I'd be willing to help with some research.
DNAG shareholders CAN do something.
Hi Linkerboy,
The answer to your previous question actually already answered that question...
Earlier you asked :
"Can't we as shareholders take over and establish directors to move forward and handle any legal issues and lawsuits to recover assets?"
YES...DNAG shareholders CAN do something.
Shareholders can re-organize and get a new board...get an attorney to find out your legal options to resolve this mess...and get a private investigator to pursue criminal investigations to work with the attorney.
There are many more things shareholders can do as well...such as demanding to see the terms of the DNAPrint/DDC license and our IP assets and find out what happened to our board of directors (both are material events that DNAG shareholders have a legal right to know).
The question is...
Are long time DNAG shareholders finally frustrated and pissed off enough to do what's needed to get the legal answers to what happened?
DNAG Shareholders need to find out who is legally responsible for destroying DNAPrint Genomics...leaving us with our worthless DNAG shares.
The other option is for DNAG shareholders to do nothing and hang out in this twilight limbo for years to come...
DNAG shareholders DO have a choice...
Thanks for your comments and input. Didn't know about all that and the debt. Wish we could do something...
Linkerboy - Good questions.
You asked:
"But why are so many shares being bought up? Could something be going on?
As other posters already indicated...it's most likely one of the majority DNAG shareholders dumping their millions of shares so they can hide in the dark and run far far away...
And the buyers are most likely unsuspecting newbies who think this DNAG sub-sub-sub penny disaster has some weird reincarnation potential.
Less likely but possible in my humble opinion...is that the majority DNAG shareholder Dan Gannon is actually buying instead of selling...so he can completely control all the shares and squash DNAG completely into non-existence... By doing so...he can get rid of all the angry DNAG shareholders to escape his responsibility for being on the board that gave away all of DNAPrint's IP assets and destroyed the company. This is only a far fetched possibility but it could be happening...and it's JMHO of course.
However as I said...it's most likely it's just uninformed newbies buying blindly...because any serious DD will scare real informed investors away.
"I have been in this one for years and I have a lot that was riding on this stock."
So have many of us very long time DNAG investors. Time to now find out what happened and what our options are as DNAG shareholders.
"And if a bio company was to merge with DNAG, wouldn't this stock soar? Many millionaires could result..."
I will repeat what I said earlier...
DNAG is nothing but...an empty SHELL...with a huge $7million dollar debt and numerous lawsuits hiding in the shadows just waiting for someone to buy the empty DNAG shell. It is still possible to sell this debt-ridden shell...but not very likely to happen.
I will add to that...
There are too many other "clean" shells available without the huge debt, potential lawsuits, and huge billion+ OS that DNAG has.
Not impossible...just highly highly improbable that someone would buy this toxic DNAG shell...
If by some miracle an unlikely "merger" or "shell buyer" did happen...it would probably be with another start up company that's a totally unrelated non-biotech (could be any kind of business)...and they just want the empty shell to start trading on the OTC as a penny or sub-penny stock.
(FYI - DNAPrint Genomics (a biotech) originally merged with SDE Holdings (a non-biotech) to trade on the OTC in Oct 2000...)
And it's even possible the new merger/reorganization could cancel all our DNAG shares completely and leave us with nothing anyway.
Either case...very doubtful it would make anyone instant millionaires... JMHO of course.
Linkerboy...I saved this question to answer last... You are right on the mark. And it's the answer to maps2667's question as well.
You asked :
"Can't we as shareholders take over and establish directors to move forward and handle any legal issues and lawsuits to recover assets?"
The answer is....Absolutely....YES...since re-organizing and electing a new board is the major key to what shareholders need to do in order to get real answers and resolve the issues.
The other major options are DNAG shareholders organizing and getting an attorney and a private investigator to find out who is responsible for destroying DNAPrint Genomics...leaving us with our worthless DNAG shares.
More on this later.
I have to agree with some of the post here today, I will not recommend anyone to invest at this point but we the ones that own millions of share need to know what the heck is going on.
Someone or a group is buying millions of shares for next to nothing.
We longs have been waiting for some type of answer for years now and at this point we are not going to sell at this price levels.
Good luck to all longs
I think you will find the liabilities are to significant to try to salvage the company. Taking over the company is not an option as there are no assets to manage. Who is buying is beyond me. My guess is they are hoping to generate some speculation with accompanying buying so they can dump their shares and make a quick buck. Don't fall for it.
Something's bouncing. Thanks for your input. But why are so many shares being bought up? Could something be going on? I have been in this one for years and I have a lot that was riding on this stock. Cant we as shareholders take over and establish directors to move forward and handle any legal issues and lawsuits to recover assets? And if a bio company was to merge with DANG, wouldn't this stock soar? Many millionaires could result...
Cosmic..Love the history lesson. Hard to believe one person could have such a devastating affect on a company. Good advice to newbies. Your post should be considered a public service message.
DNAG - Dead Cat with a well documented history of failure...
Newbies...
If you DO care about your investment money and want factual DD on DNAG... Then put in the time to protect yourself and do your DD right...
Read Jokester's recent post #82458 that says it all...
Jokester - "There is nothing here to invest in. No company, no patents no nothing. The leader of the take over group gave it all away and stole from his own business partners. I expect all to become clear very soon. No Joke."
These comments are accurate and right on the mark...
Re-read Jokester's other posts as well.... Please read them VERY closely...and very seriously...
Then follow the leads back to the facts as Jokester suggested...by going back to the earlier DNAG posts that clearly document the all facts and events that happened...
The posts start around approximately #81300 and are dated around Feb 2009....in particular pay attention to the posts between Frogdreaming and Daniel Gannon (dgplexus)...You can check their iHub profiles to see all their posts in one list.
Especially re-read Frogdreaming's old posts that accurately summarize the facts with the events leading to the destruction of DNAPrint by it's own board of directors...which included Hector Gomez, (the infamous) Richard Gabriel, and Daniel Gannon who were all on DNAPrint's board at the time of DNAPrint's destruction.
Daniel Gannon is the guy who bought millions of DNAG shares to become a majority DNAG shareholder. Daniel Gannon is the same guy who later solicited money here on DNAG iHub board to form an investment group to buy the IP assets from Dutchess. All of which ultimately resulted in the announcement of DDC getting a highly questionable worldwide exclusive license for all of DNAPrint's IP assets...and of course...resulting in the immediate demise of DNAPrint Genomics by the board of directors that Dan Gannon was part of when it happened.
Frogdreaming post #82229
"Gannon was also a part of the private consortium that walked away with all of the IP of DNAP when they obtained it from Dutchess."
Smacks of intentional criminal fraud to bury DNAPrint's IP assets and crush DNAPrint by these individuals on our DNAPrint board of directors...so they could dump their personal liability in this huge debt-ridden company and run away as fast as they could from the lawsuits...? Of course this is only speculation until we find out the real facts about what happened.
Frogdreaming's many insightful posts and Jokester's comments above are an accurate summary of these events. The documented facts are right there for you to find.
So listen very carefully to gracemwjt2000's comments with her gentle warning and encouragement for you to...
ALWAYS get documented PROOF for your serious DD... Always.
If you are truly striving to be a successful trader...you need to learn to do better DD...based on proven facts...not betting on idle speculation or risk getting suckered by intentional pump/dump manipulations...
Why waste your time hanging out with a dead DNAG corpse...hoping for a miracle to come?
Protect yourself and follow the leads you were given above.
Linkerboy actually came close to nailing it right on the head with an earlier post...about DNAG being just a "shell"... It is.
DNAG is nothing but...an empty SHELL...with a huge $7million dollar debt and numerous lawsuits hiding in the shadows just waiting for someone to buy the empty DNAG shell. It's still possible to sell this debt-ridden shell...but not very likely to happen.
Newbies stay away...or play at your own risk... You've been warned many times.
For long time DNAG shareholders...we still have unfinished business here.
It's time to wake up the ghosts of DNAG...and have a serious discussion on what to do about this empty shell and our worthless DNAG shares.
DNAG is a Dead Cat with no bounce...
Newbies...
You have already been told a number of times by various trusted posters that...
DNAPrint Genomics company is a DEAD Cat...a proven fact.
Proof of DNAPrint's demise - documented PR announcement in Feb 2009.
www.thegeneticgenealogist.com/2009/03/03/dnaprint-genomics-ceases-operations
And Dead Cats don't bounce when they've been run over by a Sherman Tank...
DNAPrint's board of directors did it's best to shred all the life from DNAPrint Genomics so it could never be resurrected...
And the board all ran away as fast as possible after that...without fulfilling their legal fiduciary responsibility to tell all DNAG shareholders...exactly what the board did with DNAPrint's IP assets...and exactly how the board destroyed the company and.stranded all DNAG shareholders.
So...DNAPrint-DNAG is a Dead Flat Cat...with absolutely no business...no IP patents or other assets...not even their AncestryByDNA and DNAWitness trademarks... What more do you need to know to stop wasting your time here...?
There is absolutely nothing left but many stranded and very pissed off angry DNAG shareholders holding millions of worthless DNAG shares...
If you are a smart newbie investor...stay away and don't you become one of the angry pissed off DNAG shareholders yourself...
There is nothing here to invest in. No company, no patents no nothing. The leader of the take over group gave it all away and stole from his own business partners. I expect all to become clear very soon. No Joke.
nick08, here with DNAG...
I have seen a few stocks over the years that have started out from these levels and then out of the blue... transformed into something.
Since I can't say "what is" here with DNAG... I can't say "what is not" here with DNAG. At this point, none of us really 100% knows. Even if we did, it won't hold merit unless it eventually comes from the company or other official means.
I am here in DNAG hoping that some of the DD within the post below, comes to fruition:

Are you in this one? thinking about buying
LOL nice try.
Look at the date of those posts. 3 YEARS AGO
Show me something a little more relevant. A little more recent. There isn't anything. Believe me, I have tried looking for anything.
And as predicted, the stock has started it's downward spiral. I would like nothing better than to be proven wrong. I would love to get the money I have invested in this stock back. But it's not going to happen!
This was public reply made by sam1933 about our patents...

sure there is volume - but if you have followed this company for any length of time- historically, every so often, there will be a lot of volume, with lots of "speculation" that there is impending news coming out - someone is going to "buy" this company that has been out of business for 4 years. These people don't tell you to buy, but they get you hyped up thinking that this is the next great big thing -so you WANT to buy.
Stock price gets a slight bump - I think it might have even gone to .0010 a few years back - then the guys that buy in at .0001 or .0002 sell - make a few bucks and the stock drops right back down...to lie in wait for the next pump and dump.
All I am saying, is do your research - I have tried every so often to find out ANYTHING about this company - and the most recent thing I can find is from 2008-2009. Where are these people getting their "information" that there is some secret company out there just dying to buy this company out. That there is something of value left. Ask for their proof. Ask for links to articles. Please don't just take their word on it.
There is volume you got to at least admit that.
there is no company. there are no assets. anything "they" might have have is hopelessly outdated. there is no future.
Hey Jokester - I have been following this for a long time also and know who you are talking about - I am curious though how you found out this information on that individual? I have never been able to find anything out once he accumulated so many shares. I know at the time, most people who had done some actual research on the company knew there was something sketchy about him.
Can someone please explain to me what everyone is holding for? What is it that you think you are investing in?
Big breakout today... MM csti only showing 1.5 million at .0007 not his usual 8 million
maps2667, with your DNAG thoughts...
Your DNAG thoughts are much appreciated. I had been following DNAG for some years, but I am very rusty on DNAG to say the least. If you say that it looks like the deal is back on the table, then that will be good for DNAG and its shareholders.

DNA
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is a molecule encoding the genetic instructions used in the development and functioning of all known living organisms and many viruses. Along with RNA and proteins, DNA is one of the three major macromolecules that are essential for all known forms of life. Genetic information is encoded as a sequence of nucleotides (guanine, adenine, thymine, and cytosine) recorded using the letters G, A, T, and C. Most DNA molecules are double-stranded helices, consisting of two long polymers of simple units called nucleotides, molecules with backbones made of alternating sugars (deoxyribose) and phosphate groups (related to phosphoric acid), with the nucleobases (G, A, T, C) attached to the sugars. DNA is well-suited for biological information storage, since the DNA backbone is resistant to cleavage and the double-stranded structure provides the molecule with a built-in duplicate of the encoded information.
These two strands run in opposite directions to each other and are therefore anti-parallel, one backbone being 3' (three prime) and the other 5' (five prime). This refers to the direction the 3rd and 5th carbon on the sugar molecule is facing. Attached to each sugar is one of four types of molecules called nucleobases (informally, bases). It is the sequence of these four nucleobases along the backbone that encodes information. This information is read using the genetic code, which specifies the sequence of the amino acids within proteins. The code is read by copying stretches of DNA into the related nucleic acid RNA in a process called transcription.
Within cells, DNA is organized into long structures called chromosomes. During cell division these chromosomes are duplicated in the process of DNA replication, providing each cell its own complete set of chromosomes. Eukaryotic organisms (animals, plants, fungi, and protists) store most of their DNA inside the cell nucleus and some of their DNA in organelles, such as mitochondria or chloroplasts.[1] In contrast, prokaryotes (bacteria and archaea) store their DNA only in the cytoplasm. Within the chromosomes, chromatin proteins such as histones compact and organize DNA. These compact structures guide the interactions between DNA and other proteins, helping control which parts of the DNA are transcribed.
PropertiesDNA is a long polymer made from repeating units called nucleotides.[2][3][4] DNA was first identified and isolated by Friedrich Miescher and the double helix structure of DNA was first discovered by James D. Watson and Francis Crick. The structure of DNA of all species comprises two helical chains each coiled round the same axis, and each with a pitch of 34 ångströms (3.4 nanometres) and a radius of 10 ångströms (1.0 nanometres).[5] According to another study, when measured in a particular solution, the DNA chain measured 22 to 26 ångströms wide (2.2 to 2.6 nanometres), and one nucleotide unit measured 3.3 Å (0.33 nm) long.[6] Although each individual repeating unit is very small, DNA polymers can be very large molecules containing millions of nucleotides. For instance, the largest human chromosome, chromosome number 1, is approximately 220 million base pairs long.[7]
In living organisms DNA does not usually exist as a single molecule, but instead as a pair of molecules that are held tightly together.[8][9] These two long strands entwine like vines, in the shape of a double helix. The nucleotide repeats contain both the segment of the backbone of the molecule, which holds the chain together, and a nucleobase, which interacts with the other DNA strand in the helix. A nucleobase linked to a sugar is called a nucleoside and a base linked to a sugar and one or more phosphate groups is called a nucleotide. A polymer comprising multiple linked nucleotides (as in DNA) is called a polynucleotide.[10]
The backbone of the DNA strand is made from alternating phosphate and sugar residues.[11] The sugar in DNA is 2-deoxyribose, which is a pentose (five-carbon) sugar. The sugars are joined together by phosphate groups that form phosphodiester bonds between the third and fifth carbon atoms of adjacent sugar rings. These asymmetric bonds mean a strand of DNA has a direction. In a double helix the direction of the nucleotides in one strand is opposite to their direction in the other strand: the strands are antiparallel. The asymmetric ends of DNA strands are called the 5′ (five prime) and 3′ (three prime) ends, with the 5' end having a terminal phosphate group and the 3' end a terminal hydroxyl group. One major difference between DNA and RNA is the sugar, with the 2-deoxyribose in DNA being replaced by the alternative pentose sugar ribose in RNA.[9]
The DNA double helix is stabilized primarily by two forces: hydrogen bonds between nucleotides and base-stacking interactions among aromatic nucleobases.[13] In the aqueous environment of the cell, the conjugated π bonds of nucleotide bases align perpendicular to the axis of the DNA molecule, minimizing their interaction with the solvation shell and therefore, the Gibbs free energy. The four bases found in DNA are adenine (abbreviated A), cytosine (C), guanine (G) and thymine (T). These four bases are attached to the sugar/phosphate to form the complete nucleotide, as shown for adenosine monophosphate.
The nucleobases are classified into two types: the purines, A and G, being fused five- and six-membered heterocyclic compounds, and the pyrimidines, the six-membered rings C and T.[9] A fifth pyrimidine nucleobase, uracil (U), usually takes the place of thymine in RNA and differs from thymine by lacking a methyl group on its ring. In addition to RNA and DNA a large number of artificial nucleic acid analogues have also been created to study the properties of nucleic acids, or for use in biotechnology.[14]
Uracil is not usually found in DNA, occurring only as a breakdown product of cytosine. However in a number of bacteriophages - Bacillus subtilis bacteriophages PBS1 and PBS2 and Yersinia bacteriophage piR1-37 - thymine has been replaced by uracil.[15] A modified form (beta-d-glucopyranosyloxymethyluracil) is also found in a number of organisms: the flagellates Diplonema and Euglena, and all the kinetoplastid genera[16] Biosynthesis of J occurs in two steps: in the first step a specific thymidine in DNA is converted into hydroxymethyldeoxyuridine; in the second HOMedU is glycosylated to form J.[17] Proteins that bind specifically to this base have been identified.[18][19][20] These proteins appear to be distant relatives of the Tet1 oncogene that is involved in the pathogenesis of acute myeloid leukemia.[21] J appears to act as a termination signal for RNA polymerase II.[22][23]
