designer thanks. Cups are definitely not your "penny poppers" where you might make a mint in a day. But they are definitely safer if you follow a few rules.
Dk..........don't confuse quality with quantity:) I appreciate the work you and others do here, even if infrequent. The best wine takes time to age..........
Thanks. I am going to keep this one on watch and hope it doesn't break while I am away.
designer,
I know the keeping busy feeling. It looks like I have a couple more weeks of it myself.
I am thinking about having Matt do away with this message board. It does not seem that many are interested, so I may go back to lurking with an occasional post on MMClub.
Dk...........thanks again for all of the info. Been busy trying to make a living lately, and have posted or traded much:)
Hope things are going well..............
Added more HMP at $2 even. My average is now $2.065.
NPRO 7.5 month cup. Left side started in first half of July '03 and the right side finished in the last half of January. Handle is two months long, pivot point is $2.90. Remember to watch for the strong volume on any breakout.
NWD About 2 month cup, handle has less than a week on it. Pivot point is $1.06. Notice how volume has also formed a cup with handle formation.
BRKR Left side of the cup formed in the first half of July of '03. Right side finished in mid January. Handle is two months long BUT is at a critical point...the 50% point. This stock closed Friday at $5.49, which is one penny above the 50% point. Remember...do your own DD.
I have alot going on so probably will only pop in periodically. Sorry to anybody that wrote and I did not reply.
I have a couple potential cup w/ handles I am going to post before running off again. Currently the only Cup W/ Handle that I am holding is HMP that I posted earlier.
VASO-The cup is a little to shallow for my liking
Here is a cheappie doing a classic handle....ASPC

RGX Just announced 4th qtr results.
Well....I can't find anything worthwhile to post about so will have to leave message 100 to somebody with something to say.
EAR Well, the news did not cause it to break out without forming the handle. The handle is still forming and the volume appears to be drying up. Handle bounced off 50 DMA once and appears to be ready again.

HYBD Handle building for over a month now. 50 DMA crossed up and thru the 200 DMA and today it closed just above both. Keeping this one on watch.
Here is my first post with chart:

RGX Handle been trending sideways. Today it closed one penny above its 50 DMA. Will it bounce and be the catalyst to start the breakout? Posted it here:

Here is a higher priced one for ya. And it is a REIT paying a nice dividend to boot. MFA
I already own this one in my son's college IRA and have for awhile. Bought it in the low 9's and have been letting it DRIP ever since.
But during the course of my daily review, it dawned on me that this is forming a nice looking C & H. It also had a raise in its rating recently to market outperform.
DCTH Been reading about it on some of the boards. The chart shows an almost 8 month cup with a month and a half handle. Closed today right around the pivot point with about 5 times average volume. News story on 3/9/04 titled "First Patient Accepted in Delcath Phase III Liver Cancer Study".
However, the ascent of the right side of the cup is rather steep...not a "perfect" cup by the book.
Here is chart:
Looks good. If it can break 2.11-2.15 then look out until 2.70. I will be keeping this one on watch.
Thanks
SWTX- yearly chart by week, you might want to also look at a 3 month daily chart
thanks for letting me post this here,BTW this stock is also getting a NASD listing. Will continue to look for appropriate C&H's for yor board-great board idea BTW

I already posted HMP as a cup with handle and Rivet gave us a real good chart with explanations.

I don't know as we have ever mentioned price ranges here. I have just stopped posting about any cups I find that are above 10 bucks because I never got any replies. Too bad too. I used to rub a couple people's noses in ILXO, CY and RFMD after I posted them.
If people are interested and our board picks up traffic we can sure include the higher priced cups as well. People will just need to learn patience as they will not pop as fast, but they will learn they can be just as rewarding.
SUHG-bought this AM @ $12.36 for my SEP
I know this is above the price range for most of us, but I thought this breakout looked so nice I would share it.
Rivet RE: HMP
I have been looking this one over some more and I don't know that I agree with my original pivot point of $2.10. That price was just a spike. I think I am going in on a break of $2.00.
HMP reviewed: Now here is a great stock! I love these AMEX setups :- )
For starters, you can see below this stock behaves quite well to my "Power Three Cross-Over", EMA's that I use religiously in all my charts: http://www.investorshub.com/boards/read_msg.asp?message_id=2544843 notice how well this stock reacts to its 18EMA. It gaps up almost every time it touches it :- ), which brings me to my next point. FILLING THE GAP.... You can see the last time this pig gapped up on a huge volume breakout...unfortunately the gap was to much and it failed to push through, up and over that $2.10 pivot point...BUT.....what i especially like here, is this sideways consolidation. The more days we are sideways here the stronger the volume will build in anticipation of breaking that $2.10 Watch this one closely here...all my indicators/oscillators are primed and ready for a breakout, even my Triple Three Bullish indicators (http://www.investorshub.com/boards/read_msg.asp?message_id=2126122) are looking sweet. I love seeing that AROON cross right at the 50, just fantastic. Good Luck and Happy Trading!!! hope this is of some help bro, take care :- )
HMP
Okay, here it is HMP
Recently announced its second consecutive profitable quarter, an alliance with Medtronics (MDT)
http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/ticker/article.asp?Symbol=US:HMP&Feed=BW&Date=20040225&...
Cup w/ handle, pivot point of $2.10
shoot!!!!! let her ride! don't mind at all bro :- )
That was REAL sweet...if only I had made it back here 10 or 15 minutes earlier.
If you don't mind, I would like to bounce one off you for an opinion, both technically and fundamentally. It will be in my next post.
Thanks
I cancelled my order for RGBI cuz etrade had an a bid of $1.55 and an ask of $1.70...now it looks like a screwup?
:- ) isn't that cool
Holy bat$hit! RGBI exploded! No way I get in now. Will just have to wait for the next one.
Got an order in for $1.32...let's see if I can catch a pullback by the end of the day.
yup no worries :- ) looking for a multiday play on this one. good luck bro
Nice one. But by the time I spotted your post it appears to already have blown by its pivot point...will watch for a pullback I guess.

Trading Cup and Handles:
Earlier this weekend I started discussing about repetitions of patterns and used DSNY as an example. I encourage everyone to break down each charting possibility and soak in the bigger picture. Here is a six month and one year chart for DSNY.
How to trade Cup & Handles:

Repetition of Patterns:
Some might say that trading is a cumulation of both art and science mixed into a washing machine full of emotional detergent. Is this analogy pretty accurate? Oh yes sir, but simply and sad enough, this in my mind is where 99.9% of all day traders fail to succeed; therefore, giving up and moving on with the next best thing there life brings to the plate. This is quite sad because that individual could be so close to grasping a knowledge that would revolutionize there life towards the market place as a whole, but again they fail to connect and turn into an emotional trading mess. One step further. I have heard it said that simply the practical mind rarely trusts the eyes and seeks truth in the cold, hard numbers. Do you have a consistent, organized trading plan? It can be said that the cooperative brain digests vast amounts of information (i.e. market data) to arrive at probabilites regarding the direction of price movement, but fails to integrate them together and ends up once again flying by the seat of there pants. Diagnosis: Failing to create and have effective trade preparation. Answer: Funnel these diverse tasks into a single, well organized plan. How do we do this? Well my desire for this post is for you to be able to take chart pattern analysis and know exactly how, when, and where to use it and use it effectively.
The mind plays tricks on what the eye percieves. Our human brain tries every attempt to consruct order from visual chaos and sees promising patterns even with the most psychotic data. Unfortunately, this subdues our eyes but lacks all truths or predictive trading power and it bleeds trading accounts until the "Game Over" popup comes onto there trading screen. How do we fix this? Technical indicators/oscillators apply truth vaccine to the endless array of chart patterns. Its a bypass to distorted vision and constructively outputs simplified plotting and concludes current price trend activity. Simply.......if you think you got the most obsolete chart pattern going for you, have you cross-verified it via its indicators/oscillators? This my friends is the climax to making successful trades day in and day out. So break it down. Apply some 3,2, and 1 year charts and getting the overall picture, break it down some more. Bring up a 6 and then 3 month chart, if you think you have a cyclical type chart pattern, cross-verify it with current trend indicators/oscillators to CONFIRM your assumption. It takes time, but with a lot of practice, patience, and perseverence you'll will be able to conquer this trading method in no time.
P.S. I will put this into the iBOX @ AIS: http://www.investorshub.com/boards/board.asp?board_id=2110
