Right now the market is valuing CNAT at zero since market cap equals net cash. Zero is too low.

Yes, last weeks trial results were terrible but but but they did nothing to negate the earlier trial results that did show positive and significant positives from taking the drug. And I know that technically those trials "failed" but the reality is that a lot of good things were learned in those trials.

The clear value for emricasan RIGHT NOW is in combination with other drugs. That has value and is worth something far more than current market cap. It could also change with the upcoming hypertension trial results and LF conclusions.

They are "on base" with the earlier trial results. They struck out with the latest. But they still have two big swings upcoming.

And my belief is even if the next two swings are misses, the drug has proven enough for Novartis to want it and take the entire company in the process. No way will Conatus raise money with a sub-$2 stock.

On March 21, 2019, Conatus Pharmaceuticals Inc. (the “Company”) announced top-line results from the Company’s Phase 2b ENCORE-NF clinical trial of emricasan, the Company’s first-in-class, orally active pan-caspase inhibitor, in patients with biopsy-confirmed nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (“NASH”) and liver fibrosis. The randomized, double-blind trial, initiated in the first quarter of 2016, enrolled and treated 318 patients with biopsy-confirmed NASH Clinical Research Network (“CRN”) fibrosis stages F1-F3 at baseline. Patients were randomized 1:1:1 to receive 5 mg of emricasan, 50 mg of emricasan, or placebo twice daily for 72 weeks.

The trial’s primary endpoint was a ≥1 CRN fibrosis stage improvement with no worsening of steatohepatitis compared with placebo at week 72. The trial did not meet the primary endpoint. The response rates in the 5 mg emricasan, 50 mg emricasan and placebo treatment groups were 11.2%, 12.3% and 19.0%, respectively. Statistically significant reductions were observed in ALT and Caspase 3/7 in the 5 mg and 50 mg emricasan treatment groups.

Consistent with safety results from 18 previously completed clinical trials, emricasan was generally well-tolerated in the ENCORE-NF clinical trial.

The report was fine. I didn't expect any news but was nice to see two things in it that I didn't expect. One was the new drug effort at the very end. The other was the mention of milestone payments where they talked about end of year cash projection. The revenue number is meaningless. All that matters is the upcoming trial results.

What was more interesting was the conference call. I listened to it live and you should listen to the replay. The CEO exudes confidence and knowledge and really seems to understand drug development. Several of his comments sure made me think that emricasan is going to be worth something to someone.

I again feel great about it. It is a big holding for me.

All you have to do to be about 99% certain of the type of news coming today and over the next few months is read the SEC Fomr 4s filed a month ago. These guys gave themselves nice piles of options with a $2 strike. In order for any of these execs to make serious money on their own company is for these options to be worth a lot.


My GUESS is Novartis buys them this weekend.

I would prefer that to be the case, I just have seen too many companies release bad news after hours on a Friday. Not like CNAT was going to report a profit or anything and hopefully it's just routine, but usually, even the execs want out of the office on Fridays. Maybe they have a big celebration planned afterward and this report/call is a good way to kick that off.

CNAT is a West Coast company. Half of their business day is after hours. I would not read anything sinister or foreboding into the timing.
