Call Center Jobs Growing Quickly
HOLLAND, Mich., 13 Apr 2011 - Less than a year ago, Novo 1 began with fewer than 10 employees. Now there are more than 250 workers, and the customer-contact center is having trouble finding workers.
Novo 1 contracts with insurance and automotive companies, providing answers to questions or roadside assistance for customers who call.
Their client list is growing, and in any given week their Human Resource managers are seeking to fill up to 30 full-time jobs that start at $9 per hour, more for bilingual speakers.
New numbers from the US Department of Labor may shed light on why Novo 1 - and others - may be having a tough time filling their job openings.
In February, US employers advertised for 3.1 million job openings - the highest number since September 2008. There are now 4.4 people looking for every one job opening, and that's down from a 7-1 ratio in July 2009.
While those numbers are still not what economists want to see, they are signs the employment market is changing, forcing employers to become more competitive to land employees.
Novo 1 believes they have the right stuff.
"We believe that we have a culture that is very attractive to to individuals. We believe that we have a very competitve salary and benefits package to offer and we think that if folks come in and take a look at us they will like what they see," said the company's Patrick Blanchard.. "If you look at the explosive growth we have had since July of last year we think that kind of bears witness to the fact that a number of people found us pretty attractive."
Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and a clean criminal record. Other considerations include excellent speech and grammar with the ability to type 25 words per minute with a 90% accuracy. The company said training is paid, with insurance and benefits available after 90 days.

Social Media Innovation
As most of us are aware, social media websites like Facebook and Twitter have quickly clawed their way into mainstream, becoming common household terms, even to those who have never used the Internet. These social sites are not only transforming the way people interact with each other on an everyday basis, but are also slowly redefining businesses and how businesses operate.
