Monday's upgrade by Axiom was so shocking, I thought someone hacked his computer. He has trashed CSIQ for years and has had overall hate for solar.
Axiom's Johnson on $18 Price Target for Canadian Solar: Notes Price Target Only Includes Projects in Japan, Adding in Sale of Projects in UK, China, India, Brazil, Australia, Might Add Another $30-$40 in Canadian Solar Shares
Canadian Solar +5% after winning Buy rating from Axiom's Johnson
Canadian Solar (CSIQ +5%) is initiated with a Buy rating and $18 price target at Axiom Capital, where solar bear Gordon Johnson compares the company to SunPower and First Solar in 2012.
Solar stocks suffered heavy hits five years ago but SPWR and FSLR realized relatively strong earnings because those companies had significantly profitable projects in their backlog, and over the next three years their shares prices surged a respective 526% and 338%; "fast forward to today, we believe Canadian Solar is in a very similar position,” Johnson tells Benzinga.
The analyst notes CSIQ’s contracts in Japan, which maintain feed-in tariffs of $0.26-$0.36 per kilowatt-hour, more than 5x the FITs offered in the U.S.
Johnson says if any or all of CSIQ's market opportunities in India, China, Brazil, the U.K. and Australia come to fruition, shares could rise to as high as $30-$40.
Canadian Solar -9% after Q4 miss, guides Q1 revenue below consensus
Canadian Solar (CSIQ -9.2%) plunges more than 9% after missing expectations for both Q4 earnings and revenues, and guiding Q1 revenues below consensus.
CSIQ says it expects Q1 revenues of $570M-$590M vs. $683M analyst consensus estimate, with gross margin of 13%-15%, and sees FY 2017 revenues of $4B-$5B vs. $3.36B consensus.
CSIQ says total solar module shipments set a record high at 1,612 MW, vs. guidance of 1,400-1,500 MW, of which 1,581 MW were recognized in revenue, compared to 1,161 MW recognized in revenue in Q3.
For FY 2017, CSIQ expects total module shipments of 6.5-7 GW, with ~6.17 GW recognized in revenue, and expects to connect 1-1.2 GW of new solar projects globally in 2017.
Canadian Solar not seeing major Trump impact on U.S. solar sales
Canadian Solar (CSIQ -9.1%) CEO and President Shawn Qu says Pres. Trump’s pro-coal and pro-fossil fuel policies have not hurt sales of the company's solar cells in the U.S., but the U.S. Department of Commerce dealt a significant setback with the preliminary release of revised anti-dumping tariffs.
CSIQ says it is strongly contesting the early results of the DoC's revised anti-dumping and other tariffs on Chinese-manufactured solar panels, which Qu says are “hugely different from the past rates imposed on the company.”
“We believe that technology is what set the winners apart from the losses in this run of the industry cycle,” Qu said in today's earnings conference call, adding that CSIQ plans to raise its solar cell manufacturing capacity even as competitors cut back.
CSIQ's revenues, profits and margins all have declined over the past year due to “the industry-wide declines in average selling price that have been persistent all year," although the company set records for solar module shipments in Q4 and FY 2016, and Qu says demand for its products remains firm.
Canadian Solar signs PPAs for solar projects in India
Canadian Solar (CSIQ +2.4%) signs 25-year power purchase agreements for 80 MW of solar power projects in the Indian state of Maharashtra with the Solar Energy Corp. of India, the government’s corporate solar arm.
CSIQ says it was awarded the projects under a 450 MWac solar capacity tender in the state of Maharashtra through a competitive auction process; the projects are scheduled to begin operations by late 2017.
I would say dilution. I sold on the break downward yesterday. I would wait for a break back above 50 day or a test of 10 to get back in.
Havent seen any negative news, why does this continue it's slide downward?
Good entry point today, or wait?
Nice move today. Test of 14/15 coming soon! I think 2017 should see the 20s again.
Wow, they sure went on a limb with their 12 dollar target. Well I guess at least they are saying it should stop going down.
FBR & Co has upgraded the stock of Canadian Solar
http://marketexclusive.com/fbr-co-upgraded-stock-canadian-solar-inc-nasdaqcsiq/40511/?icd1
CSIQ
Today -7.95%
3mths -19.45%
1Yr -48.52%
YTD -61.49%
Now back down to mid-2013 price and chart shows further decline possible, if not likely. Down certainly more likely than up and nothing points to getting back to $20, nothing but [blind] hope that is. Would be glad to be proven wrong.
FWIW - @ $18 cost basis CSIQ is my all time worst performer and looking to serve as a 2016 taxable account capital loss write-off on 12/31. grrrrr :-\
Tax credits can't be touched until 2020 and most states are following through with goals anyway...Trump is going Rogue and it won't pay off for him...he and is administration will fail miserably if they try to exit Paris agreement...All signs point to the revolution happening no matter what trump tries to do
Without tax credits, solar stocks are going to have a problem.
Me and you both
wish I had cash for the 10.40$ dip this AM...eazzzzy money
Panic selling. Will get a healthy bounce back the next couple days and earnings in roughly a week
November 8th should be over that
care to place a wager? CSIQ @ $20+ by March 17'
Your crazy if you think not...in fact it shows you know nothing about what is going on currently in the energy war across the globe.
The election is not going to effect Canadian Solar
if the cost keeps lowering he will see it as pure capitalist profit opportunities..a much more appealing thought to a man like him then some hippie one world UN bullshit
Well he just vowed in his version of Gettysburg address 2016 to cancel billions in payments to the UN for climate change.. that was today. Solar is f'ed if Trunt wins.. guy is an absolute megalomanical madman
Dont bet on it mate if Trunt wins mate.. he thinks Global warming is a hoax!.. the only hoax would be that clown gettin in the white house.. for f!!!'s sake.. what is the U.S of A doing.. :-/
Lol nahh he's right ...canadian solar is a big player and they gave done it before ...from 30s down to 14.20(where I added) back up to 29 down to 11s...(where I added)...keep canadian in your portfolio..future is bright
$30 more realistic, possible for sure solar is incredibly undervalued right now...no matter who wins election or senate majority renewable energy will grow particularly $olar get rich ..GLTA
Wow.. big call buddy.. with all thats goin on in the world & markets hovering at ATH's, 6 months will be a real stretch for a 100-166% increase in SP.. 60 months might be a better bet.??
This will be $30-$40 in 6 months
Load up...these levels won't last for ever that goes for the other 12 solar companies in the same position...less that a month
Lol I loaded up at 11.97 ... Sept 16th 7 of the largest renewable companies hit all time lows...this is temporary until election time...only gonna get better from here!!
Should have bought more at 12. At least I'm getting my money back if this keeps up
Obama run up?.. :-/.. Obama came into office in Jan 09' & oversaw the massive decline of the entire industry thru 2010-2012.. 2013 - 2015 saw a gigantic swell thanks to Wall St. They decide when things go up or down - not Barack..
BAD END TO THE WEEK !!
Won't last long though
Good start to the day
Solars have come full circle after the nice Obama run up..!! They will come back !!
This is always 1 step forward 2 steps backwards!
4 more months of the down turn then maybe a turn around in solars...FSLR has the best balance sheet !!
where is CSIQ's BOTTOM mate we have seen this before
Share price has been mutilated mate.. Dsstroyed. Wall st. Has been beaten up on solar stocks for over a year now - results don't matter mate..
CSIQ earnings and growth on Fire ! Back up the truck to new highs.
Royallen your back....lol...I'm still waiting for canadian solar to adapt to Andalay edge...this is taking long than I thought, it's ok tho...I've been busy building my positions across the entire sector ...got into this bad boy at 12.12 last week...it's amazing how every solar stock fell ...time for the market to see what solar is really about
I'd like to believe you.
