Yes I was long
I sold some calls for 100% gain if I would have waited 1 hr. would have been 200%.
I assume you mean you were long calls and you sold them. I wrote an Iron Condor for April.
I sold some calls for 100% gain if I would have waited 1 hr. would have been 200%. Railroads are doing great today
Added CSX to my portfolio today. Wish I'd done it yesterday.
Nice day today here lots of positive chatter here. My options almost doubled. Let's keep the momentum going!
That's what I figure also. Thanks
Thanks for your time. Best of luck to you on the csx calls. I work for csx and they have had one record breaking quarter after another. We have been getting some great contracts and hiring like mad so I think the stock is bound to move north. The economy and poor outlook on the stock market is what has been keeping it down imo.
Peorge
That is prob a good place to start on think or swim. Just look up any options book in the library. Yahoo has ok stuff about options too especially the basics
Do you have any suggestions on books, videos, ect. that would be helpful to learn more about option trading. I get confused about the simple things like doing a put or call, I also see all the ones you can buy and don't understand how you decide. It seems you would want the cheapest but I'm sure that is where the degrading comes into play. I was doing some of the lessons on think or swim but I need more help for sure.
I would say pennies are not safe at all. Options can be used to get income too though if you are long a stock. You could write calls and get the premium from that or hedge your long position with puts incase the stock starts to go down. They are dangerous but if you know the direction. Can be very profitable.
Seems like the pennies are safer, if thats possible.
Def. just the terms alone could screw you up. They are dangerous also. You can lose your entire amount. You really have to know the direction of the stock and have some luck. Stuff couincides with events also such as earnings. Splits. Prs.
I was getting the .50 from 23.00-22.50 april call. The decay I read about but don't understand much. I better learn more before trying it for real. Thanks
Peorge
Yes if the options are worth .50. But they may Be worth more or less depending on the time decay and other factors. I am no expert but I have an idea on how to trade them. The idea with them is to move more shares around with less capital. 10 calls now only costs you 130 dollars. But 1000 shares of stock cost 20000 dollars to buy.
If you had bought say 10 22.50 April calls and the PPS is 23.00 some time during April sous you make .50 X 1000 or $500? Is that correct? If I understand options each contract is 100 shares. Just trying to learn how they work. I tried paper trading options but found I really did not know what I was doing. LOL
Peorge
That's what I'm hopping again
I have always wanted to learn how to trade options. Csx seems to bounce between 20-23 area, at least since the 3:1 split.
Bought some calls on this today. April 22.50. See what happens. Could be do for a bounce if market makes another move up. Seems to bounce at the 20 level
Hey Peorge, Just wanted to say hi. I love trains and would love to get into this stock
Just a heads up on another great play.
This is not a scam, this is a great company that you should take a close look at. www.aavginvest.com

UPDATE: CSX 4Q Net Up 6.3% On Higher Revenue; Names New COO And CFO
Tweet PrintAlert
CSX (NYSE:CSX)
Historical Stock Chart
1 Month : December 2011 to January 2012
CSX Corp.'s (CSX) fourth-quarter earnings climbed 6.3% but came in short of Wall Street forecasts, tempered by soft demand for coal transported by the railroad as well as a muted holiday shipping season overall.
The Jacksonville, Fla.-based company also announced the departure of Chief Operating Officer David A. Brown. It didn't specify a reason but said Brown had been replaced by Chief Financial Officer Oscar Munoz, a decision "unrelated to CSX's financial condition, business performance or outlook, all of which are strong."
Fredrik J. Eliasson will replace Munoz as chief financial officer effective immediately, the company said. Eliasson had been vice president of sales and marketing for CSX's chemicals and fertilizer business.
Fourth-quarter freight volume fell 4.3%, although the railroad noted the figure was up about 1.3% excluding an extra week in the year-ago period.
Regardless, volume growth has been anemic in recent months, coming in at 0.6% in the third quarter after slowing from a 3% growth rate in the second quarter and 7% in the first quarter.
Shares were down about 1.9% in after-hours trading, at $22.25. The stock has climbed about 3.8% in the past three months, based on Monday's close at $22.69.
CSX reported a profit of $457 million, or 43 cents a share, up from $430 million, or 38 cents a share, a year earlier. The per-share figures reflect the company's three-for-one stock split, which went into effect in June.
Revenue rose 4.8%, to $2.95 billion.
Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expected per-share earnings of 44 cents on revenue of $2.99 billion.
Volume in CSX's big coal business, which accounts for nearly 25% of its overall business, slumped 8.1% in the fourth quarter, although the railroad said the figure was off only 2.6% excluding the extra week in the year-ago period. It attributed the decline to soft demand for coal from East Coast electric utility plants, at a time of elevated coal stock-piles and low natural gas prices.
In addition, the railroad's intermodal volume, meaning goods packed in shipping containers and transported by combinations of trains, trucks and seagoing freighters, slumped 5.2% in the quarter, although it came in flat excluding the extra year-ago week.
Intermodal volume accounts for about 35% of CSX's overall business. The railroad said U.S. demand for imported consumer goods was relatively soft during the fourth quarter, noting that retailers "had a more moderate peak season" in 2011 than in 2010.

Hey Peorge I am an investor who bought in after the split and I'm so glad I did. I was not going to buy at $75. I'm so glad the stock split IMO I see $30 pretty fast on this stock!
CSX has been a great play for a while now. Even with the economy in sad shape the RR still makes great profits. The latest split was great for those who couldnt afford a $75 per share stock.
Peorge
CSX running up with no stopping in sight. $35 price target by most. Looks great and cheap from these levels.
